Does anyone know what the name of the Star Trek episode refers to? Anyone? Okay well..... In this episode of Holodeck Divas we discuss the Star Trek The Next Generation episode "Lonely Among Us" (s1e7). This episode had some challenges, and the divas give their opinions...and just a reminder, these are just our opinions. Remember when we were excited to talk about The Next Generation? We promise it gets better.
When the D visits its first Melllvar cloud, mysterious things start happening to some of the crew. But when Picard himself is beamed away as energy, Data must assume the persona of Sherlock Holmes to unravel the mystery. Will the "one weird transporter trick" make any more appearances? Were these two separate stories smashed together like peanut butter and chocolate? And what the #^&% is this diamond-shaped "statue" we're supposed to see? Kavi Raz is Engineering A Future for South Asian Filmmakers Kavi Raz only appeared once in Star Trek history, but his story beyond this sci-fi franchise is what makes him truly fascinating. Kavi appeared as Lt. Jg. Singh from the Star Trek TNG episode "Lonely Among Us," but his humble beginnings make his trip to the stars even more exciting. We learn about the journey that took him from Punjab, India, to England and Hollywood, being an engineer in real life before he played one on a starship, learning acting from Hedy Sontag, forming The Wandering Players theater troupe to bring authentic Indian theatre to L.A., and more about his past. From there, it's onto our Trek talk, including a reveal of which leading role he initially auditioned for (and almost got), working on Stephen King's "Pet Cemetery" film with Denise Crosby, and what it was like walking through a Starship. Kavi also talks to us about his time on "General Hospital" and "M.A.S.H." Plus, why he started directing and formed his own production company, and the latest project he is working on – a streaming platform focused on Indian shows and films. Check out "The Barefoot Warriors" and "The Gold Bracelet," among other great films and shows made by South Asian creators at Cpics.tv. Star Trek: The Next Generation analysis of season 1 episode 6 (Lonely Among Us) In an episode so jam-packed with random shit, it's hard to even say what this episode is about but we pull from the many threads to talk about themes of vegan issues (indigenous hunting grounds, lab-grown meat, factory farming, etc.), education systems, the Federation's parallels to the EU and other institutions, Nic's rage at TNG's obsession with Sherlock... It's a ridiculous, fun, wild, nonsensical episode and we are equally wild and ridiculous while analyzing it. Somehow we get on a running joke about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and laugh so hard we can barely breathe at certain points. It's classic TNG shenanigans and we're here for it! This week we find certain members of the Enterprise crew overtaken by an alien entity, but ultimately that's secondary to the real story. As the Enterprise shuttles two delegations of warring factions to Parliament so they can attempt to settle their differences while seeking admission into the Federation, but are also using the ship for a deadly game of catch and eat. Will the alien entity succeed in taking over the ship? Will the delegates succeed in catching and eating each other? Will we see Lt. Worf do some fancy gymnastic type spins? Join us to get all those answers and more on this episode of Hailing Frequencies Open.
This week, Beam Me to Sick Bay discusses S1E07 Lonely Among Us, where an alien entity sneaks aboard the Enterprise, causing some sabotage and ultimately making Picard the imposter. Then we discuss S1E08 Justice, the one where Wesley is sentenced to death on an idyllic planet of sex-havers. We discuss many things such as bottle episodes, comedic vignette b-plots, the death penalty, and the complications of Klingon love making.
Plus - the whole Peloton / And Just Like That thing - let's track this!
This week two equally awful, and equally awful looking, alien species board the Enterprise and there's a big glowing cloud.
Rev. Dr. John Hatton, Heartland District Superintendent, delivers a message of hope during periods of loneliness in our lives.

Running a spaceship is a simple job, really. Sometimes you just have to pick up some delegates and transport them to a secure location. Easy peasy, right? Except it gets way more complicated when the delegates are from two feuding species, the ship accidentally picks up a weird energy being, and the doctor/captain gets possessed by said being turning the ship off of its course. Then when the entire meat body of Captain Picard is replaced from a backup data set, it all seems to end in good fun with a ... murder? Wesley Crusher rules the world, er, all space & time! Jimmie G leads the discussion of one of the best hard sci-fi episodes of the first season of Star Trek: The Next Generation with Kate, Greg and Erik chiming in with nothing but love for the Traveler. Great character work from guest actors and the visualization of a location far beyond human understanding at the heart of the galaxy makes this episode an early standout. The plot was actually adapted from a novel set in the original series, but it works really well to establish Wesley's place on the bridge and in the hearts and minds of the audience.
