Dermot Rogers is the principal and founder of the reactivated Dublin-based Livia Records label, which recently re-released the late guitarist Louis Stewart's masterful OUT ON HIS OWN solo album, and the previously unreleased duo album, SOME OTHER BLUES, with pianist Noel Kelehan. Livia Records' reactivation began in 2021, after being dormant for 15 years, since the death of its founder Gerald Davis.   The label was the first dedicated to jazz in Ireland, initially set up in 1977. Dermot is progressing with other re- and newly released albums from the Livia archives in 2023 and beyond. Livia Records may also release contemporary artists.   Additionally, Dermot is a weekly music radio broadcaster on 103.2 DublinCityFM and a board member of the Improvised Music Company. He is passionate about various music genres and supporting live and recorded performances. He believes in the importance of quality production and promotion of recorded and live performances to broaden the awareness and opportunities for musicians and their audiences.   Dermot has a background in Natural Science and extensive experience in digital media IT project development and management. Louis Stewart currently is the Head of Strategic Initiatives for NVIDIA's global Developer Ecosystem. In his role, he is responsible for working with minority serving institutions, government entities, industry partners and a variety of affinity groups to build relationships that enable an increase in tech preparedness, grow the overall developer base and foster a more inclusive AI community. Louis (we call him Mr. Stewart) served as the City of Sacramento's first Chief Innovation Officer before joining NVIDIA. His role within the City was to promote and drive long term economic growth and job creation through innovation. Mr. Stewart was focused on bridging the public-private divide, reducing process, and growing a strong and vibrant business community. He also encouraged an innovation-driven economy by supporting entrepreneurs, revenue-generating businesses and the creation of high quality jobs. Prior to his role with the City of Sacramento, he spent 7 years serving as California's Deputy Director of Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development. In that capacity he oversaw the coordination and promotion of innovative programs, activities, and emerging technologies throughout the State. He managed a robust statewide innovation-based economic development support network of regional innovation clusters called the California Innovation Hubs (iHubs). Mr. Stewart has served in various public sector roles for the past 13 years. His professional experience also includes 17 years in the private sector in sales, marketing, business diversity and information technology. A Special Edition celebrating the centennial of pianist George Shearing 1919 - 2011 The Pianist George Shearing was born in Battersea, London in August 1919, blind from birth. He emigrated to the USA in 1947, soon establishing the so-called “Shearing Sound” with his quintet. The band scored popular hits in the late 40's and early 50's, unwittingly inventing a sound formula that would endear itself to commercial arrangers across the world. Of particular interest for Irish listeners is the fact that Shearing's preferred guitarist for much of the late 20th century was Louis Stewart. Shearing was knighted for his services to music. “Not bad for a blind boy from Battersea”.

In the second issue we wanted to pay personal tribute to the great Irish musician Louis Stewart who died recently. I feel that whilst musicians around the world recognised Louis' brilliance, the listening public in Ireland never really appreciated the talent in their midst, excepting a few dedicated guitar fans.
