Ever wondered how to truly influence others without feeling like you're pulling the strings in some Hollywood heist movie? You're in the right place. In this episode, I got to chat with the marvelous Lucie Miller from Socially Constructed, who combines neuroscience, leadership, and a deep understanding of human behavior all into one magical package. We met at the Rise Retreat, and I knew I had to have her on the podcast. Key Takeaways: Lucie flips the script on influence, showing us it's not about manipulation but understanding what makes someone tick. It's about co-creating experiences where both you and the person you wish to influence can win big – think of it as a mutual victory lap! Lucie reminded us of how important it is to show up and be visible. Proximity is power! You might be the best kept secret, but unless you're out there, no one will know. It's time to step into the spotlight and let people know who you are and what you bring to the table. We all feel it – the discomfort of trying new things, especially when it comes to showing up online. Lucie shares that this feeling is completely normal and part of the process. Embrace the suck! Each small, uncomfortable step is teaching your nervous system that it's safe to be out there, even if it feels like you're stumbling. Trust in yourself is a game changer, whether it's public speaking or any other challenge. Lucy talks about preparing your mind for success and reframing those nerves into excitement. The spotlight isn't as scary as you think if you believe in your own magic. Authenticity draws people in like bees to honey. Being genuinely you, complete with all the quirks, is what truly influences. When you show up with open arms rather than a straight jacket, you'll find your tribe who loves you for exactly who you are. Lucie's insights are a breath of fresh air, turning the idea of influence into something empowering and human. Whether you're looking to lead, connect with your team, or captivate an audience, these nuggets of wisdom are here to help you do it in a way that feels genuinely you. Were you a collector of the Doctor Who Figurine Collection, published by Eaglemoss? Neil Corry has recently published a book about his work on the series, which is beautifully designed and packed with a plethora of pictures. Kenny and Dave discuss the range - with Kenny having written the magazines for the Lucie Miller and Liv Chenka releases - and chat about the book too - which is now sold out. WHO WANTS to live forever?, asked Queen in their song. We find out the answer to this question in Immortal Beloved, as the Eighth Doctor and Lucie encounter Zeus, Hera and a number of other gods. Today, Kenny and guest co-host Tinne Peeters chat about Lucie Miller's fourth episode, and have exclusive chats with writer Jonathan Clements, talking about the story for the first time on a podcast, and actor David Dobson, who played Tayden/Ares.
I am back! Jarod is also back!! This time HE brings ME some Doctor Who radio drama!!! In January 2007, a new series of Eighth Doctor audio adventures was broadcast on BBC7. These starred McGann alongside Sheridan Smith as a new companion named Lucie Miller. There were eight 50-minute episodes in total; the first and last stories were two-parters, and the rest were single episodes. These adventures have since been released on CD and that is how we listened to it. In 2008, BBC7 broadcast the second series of The New Eighth Doctor Adventures (which Big Finish had already released on CD). All fourteen episodes were then repeated in 2009, and the final two-part story later that year. Big Finish has gone on to produce two further series of these Adventures, and four selected stories from the third series were aired in 2010, with BBC Radio 4 Extra (as Radio 7 became) skipping ahead to the fourth series in early 2013. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/richard-templeman/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/richard-templeman/support
WE'RE back into the territory of the original Lucie Miller adventures, to the delight of one of your co-hosts. We have a chat with Paul Sutton, the writer of No More Lies, the sixth story in the first run of Lucie Miller adventures. It's the first time Paul's chatted about the story, and he reveals how his research into Hungarian folk songs played a part in the tale.
This month the Police Box "fam" lands on the wet and wild planet of "Orbis" for an audio adventure with the 8th Doctor and Lucie Miller. WITH THE sad news last week of the passing of the late, great Bernard Cribbins, we wanted to celebrate his life at Pieces of Eighth. In a change to the advertised programme (again!), we've done a special episode marking Bernard's return to Doctor Who after some 40 odd years, in Big Finish Eighth Doctor Adventure Horror of Glam Rock, the third story in the Lucie Miller series of adventures. Kenny and Rebecca celebrate Bernard's life, and they're joined by writer Paul Magrs, who explains where the story came from, his memories of writing it, and his joy at having one of Big Finish's most stellar casts, ever. This episode also contains Kenny telling a British tabloid newspaper to go away, in colourful language - for the second week in a row! And stay tuned until the end, as we've got an added little treat, which will hopefully make you smile.
We reach both the final episode of the Eighth Doctor Adventures and the final time we will be talking about the Eighth Doctor on the podcast as "Lucie Miller" and "To The Death" are finally reached. Does Susan work as a dramatic character? Do Lucie's final episodes give her the send-off she deserved? And does the dramatic finale stand the test of time? All good questions, and along to help us answer them - also for the last time - is TWTY's good friend Anthony Strand. Twitter: @talkingwhotoyou JG's Writing: www.jgmcquarrie.scot
We dive further into the final Eighth Doctor / Lucie Miller season with these two episodes (and, er, without Lucie Miller). How does all that Poe referencing work out in Nevermore? Is the Monk's return something to cheer about in the Book of Kells? And how does Tamzin fare as our companion du jour? Plus we have not one but two animation recommendations (one from Ireland, one from Japan) and a pop in to see how things are going over at the MCU. On this episode Erik, Assad, and Matthew welcome Rick Taylor to the TARDIS for a conversation about the Big Finish audio adventure "The Blood of the Daleks". BotD is the first adventure in the Big Finish 8th Doctor Adventures series produced in conjunction with BBC Radio. Starring Paul McGann as the 8th Doctor and introducing Sheridan Smith as new companion Lucie Miller this Dalek adventure is a great starting point for new Big Finish listeners. Give it a listen and then jump on board and join the discussion in the Police Box. We're back with the Eighth Doctor and Lucie Miller! Hurrah! This episode we're covering the first two stories in their final season, Death In Blackpool and Situation Vacant. How does Lucie's departure go? How do the potential replacements pan out? How Christmas-y is this alleged Christmas episode (and will either host remember to mention this fact?). Plus in Recommendations we have a movie musical and an Apple TV series. twitter: @talkingwhotoyou JG's Writing: www.jgmcquarrie.scot
Back in the noughties, BBC7 broadcast the old Doctor Who audio dramas Slipback, The Paradise of Death and The Ghosts of N-Space to death. This week, with speak with Martin Montague to find out how some Eighth Doctor audios from Big Finish found their way onto the station - and how the Lucie Miller series came to be. And we've got trailers you've probably not heard before!
Pieces of Eighth heads into new territory this week, as we feature a Short Trip from Big Finish. Flashpoint was read by co-host Kenny Smith's favourite, Sheridan Smith, so we have a chat with the range producer Ian Atkins, and writer Andrew Smith, about how Lucie Miller's return to Doctor Who came about. We should point out that Becca is also part of the Smith family, as her dad is one. So really, it's all about the Smiths this week (Morrissey not included).

We start a brand new era this episode as we begin with the first two episodes in the newly (well, newly for 2007) relaunched Eighth Doctor range and get to meet Lucie Miller for the first time. How does the Eighth Doctor get on with his enforced travelling companion? Do the Daleks provide a suitably interesting launch story for new new range? And how much potential does this have going forward?
Having covered the first half of the story in our last episode, we’re back in Bring Back the Corpse of Dennis Spooner to discuss episodes 7 through 12 of The Daleks’ Master Plan! If you missed the first half of our discussion of this story, you can find it in our previous episode, Poppycock and Nonsense. This time around, Don continues his vendetta against John Wiles, Julie pines for more of the Meddling Monk, Reilly wishes for some Dalek situational comedy in the style of The Office, while Anthony expresses his disappointment over the lack of the Evil Christmas Tree delegate. All the while, the entire team continues their debate over which delegate is which. For those who want to watch along with us, the surviving episodes are available as part of the Lost in Time DVD set, which is available through both Amazon US and Amazon UK. You can find the missing episodes on narrated audio through either Amazon US or Amazon UK (as part of the The Lost TV Episodes: Collection Two box set). In this weeks Who's He? Podcast..... The News The Macra Terror gets its DVD and Blu Ray release (and Paul admonishes Phil for not getting him a free copy), there's Big Finish new release news, Jodie Whittaker is awarded the freedom of the City of London and John Levene releases his autobiography. The Horror of Glam Rock - Review It's the 1974 and glam rock is at its height and there is an alien invasion by way of a Stylophone for the Doctor and Lucie Miller to fight! Yes, this month Phil and Paul look at The Horror of Glam Rock from Big Finish that also stars the mighty Bernard Cribbins! But Paul is perturbed at roadies drinking coffee and Phil is embarrassed to admit that he once owned a Stylophone. But did they like this audio story? Listen to find out!
https://www.bigblueboxpodcast.co.uk/ep200/ () Welcome to Episode 200... We made it to 200! Wow, where has the time gone?! Back in 2014, we had no idea that our show would last this long and how it would progress in an already growing area of Who podcasts. I'm thrilled with the community we've built and able to share the good times with you all. Over the last 200 hundred shows, we've reviewed a ton of Who (and there's lots of classic Who left to do!), put together an awesome writing team who put out great articles each week, travelled to plenty of conventions and met lots of you plus we've interviewed some great people involved in the show. A huge huge huge thank you to all of you who take the time each week to listen to our crazy waffle and rantings. Whether you've been with us since the early days or you jumped onboard last week - we wouldn't carry on doing it if there was no one to listen to us. Any interaction you've had with us, be it as a listener, chatted with us on the socials, sent in a review etc, you make it all worthwhile. For that, again, Adam and I want to send you all a massive thank you and here's to the next 200 shows! Ready... Aaaaaaaaaaaaaallons-y! The News We kick off with the sad news of Production Designer Michael Pickwoad and Jaqueline Pearce have passed away but then some happier news of our friends in South Africa getting a special Who experience at the first Africa Comic Con. Merch Corner The BBC continue their retro audio releases with the Dalek Audio Annual, we gush over the upcoming K-9 figure from Robert Harrop, Paul McGann and Sheridan Smith are reuniting for more audio adventures as The Doctor and Lucie Miller at Big Finish and Titan Comics reveal more covers and details for their upcoming 13th Doctor run. "Earthshock" Review So we, er, forgot that we did a Davison story recently (Ep197 - Snakedance) but what the hey, more Fifth Doctor action is never a bad thing and so we get stuck into a bit of a milestone for the show with the first (proper) death of a companion. Adric gets bumped off but what about the rest of the story? A decent Cyberman revival or is it "shock"ing? Thank you so much for joining us for 200. Next week for episode 201 we're reviewing the Torchwood story - Small Worlds. Until then have a great week and until next time - Allons-y!
