Meanwhile, Tomoyuki Sugano and Bryan Woo have strong games with their parents in attendance and Joey Cantillo, Dane Dunning, and Kumar Rocker stay solid. The All-star game ended with a tie and they went to the best tiebreaker EVER- a Home Run Derby! Kyle Schwarber hit all three of his homeruns and won the MVP of the game for the National League despite going 0-2 with a walk in the game itself. Would we like to see the home run derby finish more often? Would we ever want it in regular-season games? Possibly… :30- It's a variation of Mariners Morning After as we look at last night's All-star game and the Mariners stars' performance. :45- Adam Silver spoke to the media yesterday following the owners meetings, but in reality, he didn't say much. The Mariners blow a 5-0 lead in New York and get swept by the Yankees in feels like the most crushing loss of the season. We disagree that the loss was “embarrassing” or “pathetic,” it just straight up sucked. It seemed like we had everything going in our favor, 5 runs on the board, Woo with a no-hitter into the 8th inning and then all of the things that should have been dependable weren't. :30- Mariners Morning After The Yankees overcome a 5-run deficit to walk it off in the 10th and sweep the M's. Was Andres Munoz tipping his pitches? : 45- ICYMI: Scott Hunter joined us on Monday ahead of this weekend's draft. Does he feel pressure to nail this draft having the 3rd overall pick? Who might the M's be looking at at 3rd? See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Bucky's X's and O's- the big story from last night has become tipping pitches. Andres Munoz was tipping his pitches and the Yankees were very obviously picking up on it and yes, it's legal. So what's the difference between tipping pitches, sign-stealing and straight up cheating? We discuss. :30- The Mariners are in Detroit to close out the 1st half of the season before the all-star break. How are we feeling about this team being 3 games over .500 heading into the break, especially after last night? :45- We close out the show and the week with Booze News.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
What a brutal loss for the Seattle Mariners... This was unacceptable.
Beat Migs! And we chat about Bryan Woo calling his parents to tell him he is an All Star.
Ryan Rowland-Smith joins the show as he does every week to talk about the outstanding pitching performances from the Mariners to keep the Pirates scoreless in their series, highlight Bryan Woo’s All-Star season, Andrez Munoz’s dominance and more. They talk about what MLB Network’s Adnan Virk thinks about the Mariners playoff chances and what they should add at the trade deadline. And they take a look at the new-look Vegas Raiders under Pete Carroll.
Keep or Kut - Chad (@chadyoung) and Pete (@PeteBBaseball) take a look at some first-half-keeper-league All Stars (largely based on value gained compared to their ADP) after a spirited conversation about their Head-to-Head Heroes from last week.5:00 - Chad picks George Springer as his Head-to-Head Hero. Pete goes with Jasson Domínguez and Michael Busch in a two-way tie.16:30 - Conversation about our keeper league All Stars begins with Emmet Sheehan, oddly enough.23:02 - Kris Bubic and Andrew Abbott are looking like probable keepers for 2026 and make the Keeper League All Star Team.29:00 - Chad likes what Ryne Nelson is cooking up this season. Pete is worried about the fastball usage.33:52 - Casey Mize has a 2.63 ERA through 15 starts. Is this a breakout and slam dunk keeper, or is he a first-half fluke.35:34 - Grant Holmes and Edward Cabrera look really good! Cabrera's success is long overdue for Pete!41:45 - Both hosts are excited about the idea of keeping Hunter Goodman and Andy Pages for 2026 at this point. 46:38 - Eugenio Suárez, Christian Yelich, Sonny Gray, and Merrill Kelly are having solid seasons, but are their seasons so good that managers should consider keeping them?49:31 - Jhoan Duran could be a potential keeper based on his numbers so far, potentially in roto leagues, at least.50:28 - Nick Pivetta should make the keeper league All Star team, the homers are down!51:25 - Will Vest and Emilio Pagán generate a short conversation about how to approach closer keepers.53:39 - Cristopher Sánchez is looking like a slam dunk keeper given his 2025 cost.55:08 - Nathan Eovaldi is good when he pitches, but is probably not a keeper 2026. 55:53 - Byron Buxton once again gets talked about on Keep or Kut.57:23 - Carlos Rodón and Robbie Ray are pitching like aces, but their costs were more pricey than most of the players we had discussed to this point. Does it look like they will still be worth keeping for 2026, despite that cost?59:38 - Bryan Woo is most likely going to be a keeper in a lot of leagues.1:01:03 - Joe Ryan and Pete Crow-Armstrong end the show. It's that time of the year again...the All-Star Game is near and things are starting to get weird! First, is BTS Suga a part-owner of the As??? The Dodgers lean into Japanese culture with One Piece Night and Hololive Night, and we have 6 Asians on the All-Star roster! In position player news, Field Reporter Naomi Ko is on the scene for Kim Ha Seong's return (though short lived), Anthony Volpe beans Aaron Judge in the eye, Kyle Higashioka's Rangers-leading 5RBI game includes a deposit into the Higgy Bank, and Seiya Suzuki isn't worried his All-Star snub since his "plans are full." Pitchers are feeling things! Exhaustion (Yamamoto and Sugano), finding their stride (Joey Cantillo and Kumar Rocker), and firmly in the groove (Bryan Woo, Yusei Kikuchi, and Shota Imanaga). Also, we welcome the big league debut of Shinnosuke Ogasawara and the season debut of Yu Darvish!Lastly, Ohtani is officially Two Way Player status again...but how long until he makes a full start?
On today's Daily Puck Drop, Jason “Puck” Puckett is joined by Jim Moore, the Go-2-Guy to start off the show and Bill Krueger, Old School Baseball podcast makes his Monday visit as well. Puck and Jim open up talking about how they can't build anything on their own and they feel like less men not being able to do so. They also dive into grocery store coupons and Jim can't figure out how to make them work at Safeway and Puck doesn't care for Safeway. Along those lines, Jim is embarrassed how much he spent recently on a loaf of bread and these two idiots talk computers and ethernet. After the nonsense they get into the Mariners sweep of the Pirates and they chat about Julio's curious selection to the All-Star game. After Jim departs, Bill Krueger, host of the Old School Baseball Podcast, joins Puck to chat about the Mariners dominating pitching performance against the Pirates. Kirby vs. Paul Skenes lived up to the hype. They get into the All-Star selections of Bryan Woo, Andres Munoz and Bill doesn't agree with the selection of Julio Rodriguez. Bill still sees a major flaw in Julio's swing that he needs to fix. Puck wraps up the show with, “Hey, What the Puck!?” Time for Julio to get going. (1:00) Puck and Jim (43:05) Bill Krueger, “Old School Baseball” (1:16:08) “Hey, What the Puck!?”
We're back after a long weekend and ready to talk baseball! The Mariners swept the Pirates in 3 shutout games. The pitching staff showed out and thank goodness they did as the offense only managed 2 runs in 2 games. Turns out, if you don't give up any runs, you can win games. :30- Mariners Morning After. The Mariners got a 1-0 win on Sunday off a Randy Arozarena home run, but they had a chance to score more runs early on… if JP would have just chosen to slide or Randy would have told him to slide… :45- Coach Bucky is here and he had a great holiday weekend. - There are certain skills that Coach Bucky has, that very few people possess. - Cal Raleigh has 35 home runs, what is he capable of? - Was it an Elk dip kind of weekend? Headlines and GREGG BELL (Tacoma News Tribune) joins the show with the latest 12th Man News as Seahawks training camp is just over two weeks away. - Excitement over Emmanwori and expectations for Kenneth Walker, we cover it all! :30- ABCs of the Mariners - W is for the Woo Star clan- Bryan Woo, Andres Munoz, Julio and Cal all named Allstars- that's 4 Mariners players named to the original roster and it's well-deserved! - X is for x-receiver- Mitch Garver has turned into a bit of an X-receiver: he's 6-2 in his last 8 starts with 3 shutouts. Clearly they like pitching to him. :45- The Mariners seem to be on a decent track heading into the Allstar break, but the real issue is those damn Houston Astros. They've gone 29-10 over their last 39 games and swept the Dodgers over the weekend, so even with our sweep, we didn't gain any ground. Damn you Astros! SCOTT HUNTER (Mariners Director of Amateur Scouting) joins the show ahead of the MLB Draft with the M's picking at 3rd. - It's been a unique year, why? - Is the draft board set yet? - Is there anyone who stands out to the scout team? - Is it all about strengthening the middle infield and pitching? :30- The Mariners have 4 allstars in the original squad lineups for the first time in a long time! Cal Raleigh, Julio Rodriguez, Bryan Woo and Andres Munoz all deserved a spot and we are excited to see them represent Seattle! :45- We close out the show with one last thing! The Mariners kept the bats hot in Minnesota last night en route to an 11-2 win over the Twins. Did they just get hot or is there actually something to the idea that having some success (i.e. Chicago) can actually have a positive affect on your next at bat individually and as a team? :30- Mariners Morning After- the M's come away with an 11-2 win over the Twins and Julio drives in 4 runs. :45- It's Draftsgiving week with the NBA Draft tomorrow and the NHL Draft starting on Friday… maybe we should all get together to celebrate on Thursday? Puck moves on and welcomes Ryan Divish, MLB Insider to the show for his weekly chat talking all things Mariners baseball. Divish opens up the segment discussing how he almost was thrown out of a game the other day after he threw his helmet in disgust over a call that was overturned. They discuss the Mariners offense and reliance on the home run and how that at times can be problematic for the. Puck and Divish have a deep dive into Julio Rodriguez and Divish, who has covered Julio since the day he broke into the majors, offers terrific insight into the young player who has the ability and has yet to reach his superstar potential. Wow, we take one week off, and now we have twice as much to discuss! (Makes sense.) First, the Asian baseball world mourns the passing of Yomiuri Giants legend, Shigeo Nagashima, "Mr. Pro Baseball." Then, into the nitty gritty. With June underway, it's that time of the year for the trade rumor mill to get up and running...and it seems like almost all the Asians on the Red Sox are possible trade chips. In other moves, we've got guys called up, guys on rehab stints, guys on the IL, and even a guy on a new team.In position player news, Asians are MASHING. Seiya Suzuki is the first player in MLB to reach 50 RBI, Trevor Larnach is delivering on the Twins, Kim Hyeseong stays above 400, and Tommy Edman's son Eli is the newest Asian in Baseball as he throws out the first pitch on Dada's bobblehead night. And in pitching, Tommy Sugar still leads Orioles pitching, Yusei Kikuchi and Yoshinobu Yamamoto get the Ohtani treatment, and Bryan Woo and Kodai Senga remain dominant. Lastly, Ohtani tries to have it all as a three-way player: DHing, ramping up his pitching regimen, and juggling dad life. The Mariners lost to the Diamondbacks again last night and are now a .500 team. It's been a rough last 20 games as the Mariners have gone 6-14, but they're still somewhere in the middle of what we've been seeing the last month and what we saw in April. All of this seems inevitable though given the lack of activity last offseason… oh what could have been…. Chuck goes through 3 possibilities that the team could have added, but didn't. :30- Mariners Morning After The Mariners lose last night, which means a 3rd straight series loss. Logan Evans got the start, going 5 innings and giving up 4 runs, but back to back home runs by Arozarena and Tellez brought the team right back into it in the 6th, only to give those runs right back and then some. :45- Yesterday we talked to Walter Jones during our Seahawks One Series and got his thoughts on the importance of having a dependable guard on the side of the left tackle, i.e. the Hutch to your Jones.
