Chris interviews Dino Patti and Tadej Gregorcic and asks them about the design and development of their middleware multiplayer tool, Coherence. http://media.blubrry.com/caneandrinse/caneandrinse.com/sausage/TSF_Episode443.mp3 Music featured in this episode is drawn from Limbo and Inside, two games one of the guests had an active involvement in creating. The Limbo OST, as composed by Martin Stig Andersen, is available here: https://limbogame.bandcamp.com/album/limbo-original-videogame-soundtrack and the soundtrack to INSIDE is by SØS Gunver Ryberg and Martin Stig Andersen. 1. Limbo - Menu2. INSIDE - Submarine3. Limbo - Gravity Jump The Sausage Factory 443 was edited by Chris O'Regan The Sausage Factory is an interview-based podcast that lifts the lid on the makers of videogames. It examines the way in which games are made by asking the very people who create them, though the questions asked aren't just about game design, they also cover how developers made their start and what inspires them as creators. Split into two halves, the first segment delves into what makes the developers tick by asking about how they started, what and who inspires them and what games they are currently playing, whereas the second part of the show covers the game that they are currently working on and the thought processes behind its development. So, if you really want to hear about a game's gestation in full and frank detail then you have found the right podcast.
My guest today is a legendary British video game designer. While a student at Manchester University, a friend invited him to write a text adventure which led him to work for the video game publishers US Gold and, later, Activision. In 1990 he co-founded Revolution Software in the North of England. After releasing Lure of the Temptress and Beneath a Steel Sky, he began work on Broken Sword, a world-spanning adventure game starring the American patent lawyer, George Stobbart and his French girlfriend, Nicole Collard, a freelance journalist. The game had a witty script, was beautifully illustrated, and featured a soundtrack by Barrington Pheloung, the composer of the Inspector Morse TV series, who my guest first met over a game of cricket. After Sony reluctantly brought the game to PlayStation, it became a smash hit, leading to a string of successful sequels. But the course has not always been easy. “The audience for adventure games is limited,” he once told me. “But that audience is incredibly loyal.” Welcome, Charles Cecil MBE.Clips under discussion:Galaxian (Toshio Kai).Opening Theme (Peter McConnell, Michael Land and Clint Bajakian).Super Mario 64 Main Theme (Koji Kondo).Grand Theft Auto III Theme (Craig Conner).Thing 01 (Martin Stig Andersen). All other music by Simon Parkin. Buia.Paranormale. SitografiaControl WikipediaControl Wikipedia IngleseBrutalismo WikipediaRemedy Entertainment WikipediaSam Lake WikipediaMartin Stig Andersen WikipediaMartti Suosalo Wikipedia io cantante del Tango finalePetri Alanko Official SitePetri Alanko IMDBMartin Stig Andersen Official SiteControl WikiOld Gods of AsgardControl – making you feel lost in an endless placeControl's Composer Wants You To Know One Thing About Making Game SoundtracksWhy Control's composer burned a piano to make the game's haunting musicControl Is a Paranoiac's Dream Turned Into a VideogameControl & Limbo composer Martin Stig Andersen finds beauty inside the darknessSo you want to be a... videogames composer: Alan Wake and Control soundtrack creator Petri Alanko - "I sometimes think film composers have it really, really, really easy"Control is a fascinating work of video game storytelling that levitates above its limitationWhy Control is my game of the yearControl Full Story Summary and RecapQuesto episodio non è a fini di lucroI diritti dei brani musicali di questo brano non appartengono al sottoscritto. Alex and Vince are at it again! This episode features Vince trying to cajole Alex into coming to LA for GameSoundCon, but really it's all a front for how envious he is of Alex being able to hangout with Martin Stig Andersen for dinner while they were at the Reboot conference! Still, there's plenty of other fun stuff, from thoughts about Wwise to piano talk and game recommendations to make this a GAH episode for the ages! Notable mentions include: Reboot Develop Blue (game conference in Dubrovnik, Croatia) Martin Stig Anderson (sound designer) Limbo (Playdead) Back 4 Blood (Turtle Rock Studios) Scars Above (Mad Head Games) Dimitrije Cvetković (audio director) Wurlitzer spinets (half-decent pianos) Mason and Hamlin (American piano manufacturer) Jazz Hanon (piano studies) Aliens: Fireteam Elite (Cold Iron Studios, music by Austin Wintory) 140 (developed by Jeppe Carlsen)
Austin Wintory chats with composer and sound designer Martin Stig Andersen. Together they discuss his thought process behind designing the music behind the intense action packed scenes of Back 4 Blood; how much his classical music background informs his current work; his work on Playdead's LIMBO and INSIDE; and his performance work outside of video games. Martin Stig Andersen is a composer and sound designer with a background in the fields of acousmatic music, sound installations, electroacoustic performance, and video art. He is best known for his work in audio and music across several award winning titles including LIMBO, INSIDE, Control, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and the recently released Back 4 Blood. With Valve moving into the handheld market, we reflect on whether there's a place for a Switch-style PC in this episode. Plus! In a sequel of sorts to our Bad eBay Games Court episode, Big Sammy Holdings and Matthew Castle Productions are moving into the hardware market – hear us conceptualise the (fictional) perfect handheld games console. This week's music is from the Heavy Rain soundtrack by the late Normand Corbeil, the Control soundtrack by Petri Alanko and Martin Stig Andersen, and the Space Harrier soundtrack by Hiroshi Kawaguchi and Yu Suzuki.
Sam Hughes speaks with composer Petri Alanko, about his recent work on CONTROL, his process and his unique approach to thinking about music composition as well as much more! Petri Alanko (aka Lowland) is a BAFTA nominated Finnish composer, musician and producer. His dynamic repertoire ranges from the haunting orchestral/electronic score for Remedy Entertainment's psycho-thriller, Alan Wake, to elegant and sophisticated classical arrangements for Imaginaerum The Movie, based on the album by symphonic metal band Nightwish. His latest opus is the twisted and ominuous electronic sci-fi score for Remedy's next cinematic blockbuster, Control (composed in co-operation with Martin Stig Andersen), and he composed music for Remedy's critically acclaimed Quantum Break, filled with beautiful haunting and electronic thematic works. Several other titles are currently waiting for their release. Alanko's solo album, “We've Been Here Before”, under his moniker “Lowland” was released in 28th August, 2018.
