Actor Martin Clunes, who although now has hung up his stethoscope, will forever be Doc Martin for some. But, these days he's busy meeting remarkable animals; from search-and-rescue dogs to mine-sniffing rats and therapy horses. The mighty Sabrina Pace-Humphreys is here, she's a trailblazing ultra-runner, author and activist, who not only tackles gruelling terrain but also breaks down barriers; encouraging diversity every step of the way. Richard Armitage is an actor, author and voice-over artist who has thrilled us for over two decades - from Spooks, The Hobbit and North & South to Harlan Coben's hit Netflix dramas - making him the only man on the programme for whom spying, dragons and Victorian etiquette are all in a day's work. All that, plus we have the Inheritance Tracks of the comedian, broadcaster and soon to be celebrity gladiator contestant...Ellie Taylor. Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft fills in the gaps of the iconic character's history, and we went behind the scenes to figure out just how they did it.It's time for another special Does it Fly? episode! Every now and then the DiF team gets to go behind-the-scenes on an exciting new movie or TV series and talk to the folks who make the concept fly. This time around, our amazing co-host, Tamara Krinsky, speaks with Tasha Huo, showrunner and executive producer of Netflix's brand new anime, Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft. And while the character of Lara Croft is an iconic name in adventure, she's had something of a checkered history on screen (some of which we covered in a recent episode). But all of that changes with this new series, which fleshes out Lara's backstory and fills in the blanks of the stories told in the games in lushly animated fashion. Did we mention that it features the brilliant Hayley Atwell voicing Lara?Join us for all the exciting details on Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft! This episode of Does it Fly? is presented by Netflix, the exclusive home of Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, starring Hayley Atwell, Allen Maldonado, Earl Baylon, Richard Armitage, and Zoe Boyle. This episode of Does it Fly? is presented by Netflix, the exclusive home of Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, starring Hayley Atwell, Allen Maldonado, Earl Baylon, Richard Armitage, and Zoe Boyle. Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft is now streaming only on Netflix.2001's Lara Croft: Tomb Raider movie is perhaps best remembered for the near-perfect casting of Angelina Jolie as the iconic video game character. And if you think it might seem an odd fit for an episode of Does it Fly? we would like to point out a few things that will correct the record on that front. For while this may not be the most well-loved action movie of its generation, it has all the elements that get us excited to talk about a project.Well, one element that contains multitudes, we should say. This movie's “MacGuffin” has it all! It's made from meteorites, which help grant it some strange and otherworldly powers. It only reveals its true power during the confluence of specific astronomical events such as planetary alignments or solar eclipses. It can be used to control time itself, and as you know, we love trying to wrap our heads around time travel story and science logic on this show (see our Doctor Who and Back to the Future and Terminator episodes for examples). What will Hakeem and Tamara find on this adventure and bring back for us to learn? Richard Armitage's dream of becoming an actor began in his teens, in a circus in Budapest, where he slept within sniffing distance of the elephant enclosure to earn a much-needed Equity card. Having spent his early career on stage, his big break came in the BBC adaptation of Elizabeth Gaskell's North and South in 2004. Richard went on to star in Spooks, before scoring roles in The Hobbit Trilogy and Ocean's 8. Recently he has appeared in Netflix hits including Obsession and Fool Me Once, with Michelle Keegan. Acting is not his only creative endeavour: Richard is also an author. His debut novel was a number 1 bestseller on Audible and his latest offering, The Cut, is out now. Nick mixes a non-alcoholic Pentire coastal spritz for Richard while Angela prepares the best smash burger, a recipe by Martha Collison, serving it with oven chips. Nick and Angela enjoy a 0% Stella Artois with their meal, while the experts at Waitrose suggest a Rasteau Edition Limitee as the wine pairing. Our trio discuss Richard's army of loyal fans, what it's like to read audiobooks for a living and how a chance meeting in a graveyard inspired his new novel. This Summer, Dino Fetscher will appear in the second season of the Apple TV+ sci-fi series FOUNDATION. The Emmy and BAFTA-nominated series created by showrunner David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight Triology, The Sandman) chronicles a band of exiles on their monumental journey to save humanity and rebuild civilisation amid the fall of the Galactic Empire. The series stars Jared Harris, Lee Pace, Ben Daniels and Lou Llobell. He's currently filming FOOL ME ONCE for Netflix, an adaptation of the novel by Harlan Coben also starring Adeel Akhtar, Michelle Keegan, Richard Armitage and Joanna Lumley. Shaken by two murders. Meanwhile, Abby and Daniel, her nephew and niece, are trying to find the truth about the murder of their mother and seeing possible connections between both cases. In 2021, Dino made his National Theatre debut in the first major European revival of Larry Kramer's seminal play THE NORMAL HEART described as ‘poignant and powerful' by The Guardian, largely based on Larry's own experience of the HIV/AIDS crisis in the 1980s in New York. Dino played the role of 'Felix Turner', Ned Week's closeted lover, for which he received a Best Supporting Actor nomination at the Olivier Awards and WhatsOnStage Awards in 2022. RHLSTP Book Club 69 - Geneva - Richard talks to actor turned novelist, Richard Armitage about his gripping thriller Geneva. How it started its life as an audiobook, why he didn't want a ghost writer, what made him want to write about big Pharma and Alzheimers, how being a disciplined actor has helped inform his characters, a twist on the unreliable narrator as well as creating a character who can not hide his own inadequacy, whether any of the graphic descriptions of skiing and car accidents is based on experience and why this podcast is too classy to mention Richard's bottom.SUPPORT THE SHOW!Watch our TWITCH CHANNELSee extra content at our WEBSITE Become a member at https://plus.acast.com/s/rhlstp. Another week, another episode of the Empire Podcast, another bumper crop of incredible guests. First, we bring you the enormously fun Richard Armitage interview that was recorded live at our recent London Podcast Festival show, where he talked to Chris Hewitt about becoming an author with his debut novel, Geneva (on sale now, fact fans). That runs from 23:21.00 - 45:51.00 (approx.) Then, Chris talks to the legendary documentarian, Errol Morris (1:03:32.00 - 1:20:20.00), about his John Le Carre documentary, The Pigeon Tunnel, and the art of interviewing, and finally Neel Bhatt has a natter with Garth Davis (1:43:58.00 - 1:57:36.00), director of the sci-fi drama, Foe. Then, in the podbooth, Chris comes dangerously close to infecting Helen O'Hara and James Dyer with the dreaded lurgy, but they brave it out and end up talking, and listing in order, the films of Martin Scorsese, discussing the week's movie news, and reviewing Scorsese's Killers Of The Flower Moon, plus The Burial, Foe, The Pigeon Tunnel, and Trolls Band Together. Oh, and they pay tribute to two of the MCU's fallen heroes in a conversation (4:10.00 - 7:58.00 approx) that might spoil Avengers Endgame, so be careful if you haven't seen it. Marty, we're talking to you. Enjoy.
Barbara Peters in conversation with Richard Armitage
Having created thrills on screen as an actor it was perhaps only a matter of time before Richard Armitage decided to create a literary thriller of his own. After memorable appearances in TV thrillers like Spooks and three separate Harlan Coben dramas, Armitage has penned his own, Geneva, which sees a Nobel Prize-winning scientist forced to question everything as intrigue swirls around a new bio-tech innovation. We sat down to talk about literary influences, his approach to writing, and why acting and music have both helped him create this first novel.
Actor Richard Armitage – who starred in North and South and the Hobbit - joins Nick to discuss writing his debut novel, the bio-tech thriller Geneva, which is about to be published in hardback but was originally commissioned as an audio book. Autumn 2023 has seen Opera North launching its first sustainable ‘Green Season'. This includes the world premiere of an ambitious new production, Masque of Might which repurposes the music of composer Henry Purcell in a spectacle of song and dance. We hear from its director Sir David Pountney and soprano Anna Dennis. The Leicester Indie band EasyLife is about to play its last gigs under that name - because the owners of the airline easyJet said their name was too similar to that of the budget airline. EasyGroup confirmed they'd received an agreement from the band saying they would cease using the name after playing at Leicester's 02 Academy and London's Koko. It's not yet known what their new name will be. The Turner prize winning artist Lubaina Himid was once told “black people don't make art”. Part of the 1980s movement of Black and Asian British artists, it was decades before her contribution to the arts was recognised with a CBE. She's now curated an exhibition called A Fine Toothed Comb that looks at the hidden communities of Manchester though her own work and that of other women artists. She steers Nick Ahad around the show and talks about belonging, removing statues and the joys of opera

Everyone is talking about Netflix's erotic thriller, Obsession - from the pillow humping scene to the plot twists - and today we are joined by the show's star, Charlie Murphy. If you haven't watched it yet, Obsession - based on the book Damage by Josephine Hart, follows Charlie's character Anna as she embarks on a racy affair with her fiance's dad, William - played by Richard Armitage - who absolutely loses his head. You'll also recognise Charlie from playing Ann Gallagher in Happy Valley, I am sure we will NEVER forget that season where Ann was kidnapped, what a performance that was! Charlie also played Jessie Eden in Peaky Blinders, but it hasn't always been plain sailing career-wise, and in this episode Charlie shares the life lesson she's learned from being unemployed and watching ‘Cash In The Attic', which is actually very philosophical! We also talk about how empowering it was for Charlie to film a TV show where women orchestrate sex on screen, and whilst we are discussing the sheer number of injuries she got from shooting said scenes, her co-star Richard Armitage gatecrashes the interview. So there is plenty of action in this episode! I loved chatting to Charlie and I'd love to hear what you think, too, I LOVE a chat with you. I'm @JoshSmithHosts on socials. In our bonus Q&A episode, Harlan Coben answers questions about his writing process and reading habits. Harlan famously calls himself a 'street writer' because he can write anywhere (even in the back of an Uber!) He's a big Dennis Lehane fan and gives us a little teaser of Dennis' new novel, which will be out soon. We also surprised Harlan with questions from some fellow fans, Richard Armitage and Richard Osman. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Trains! Fruit! Allusions to Hell abound! Victorian industrialist city mortality rates! Writer, sex educator, and librarian Helena Greer is here to discuss North and South. Did the 2004 BBC adaptation of Elizabeth Gaskell's 1854 serialized novel make the heroine more likable and everyone else less nuanced? This conversation is serialized just like the original text. We compare and contrast the romantic moments in the book and adaptation, highlighting how the adaptation focuses more on negative emotions and drama, while the book emphasizes character growth and acts of romantic love.Shelf Love:NEW! As well as starring in the likes of The Hobbit and Spooks, the actor Richard Armitage is also a prolific audiobook narrator. And now he's written Geneva, an Audible original psychological thriller. Richard tell us how the project came about, and how his background in music, theatre and film helped him develop the characters. And he tells us the things authors do that can irk audiobook narrators.
Richard Armitage is a very successful actor, appearing in 'The Hobbit' movies, the Harlan Coben Netflix thrillers, and many more besides. He's also one of the most popular narrators for Audible audiobooks. So successful, they invited him to work on his own project for the platform. The finished story is 'Geneva', a psychological thriller which follows scientist Sarah Collier and her husband Daniel at a global conference, when they realise they're in a high stakes game with hidden players and worldwide consequences. We talk about his routine whilst staying in hotels all around the world, also how he managed creative exhuastion, and how acting actually gives you a lot of time to think through plot and to plan. You can hear how Richard's routine was mostly thinking things over before hand and working late into the night, often getting dragged off course by his characters. We learn when he decided to seek out Harlan Coben's advice on psychological thrillers, and how the whole Audible project came about. The connection Richard and I had was terrible, so you can blame the short run time, and slight editing leaps on that.Support the show at patreon.com/writersroutine@writerspodwritersroutine.com Hosted on Acast.
