Recognized as Exemplary High Performing Schools, these institutions excel in academic performance. U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona praised their achievements, highlighting them as models for effective teaching and collaboration. Each school will receive a National Blue Ribbon School award flag. The recognition is based on student performance data, including assessments and graduation rates, celebrating schools that are top performers or excel in closing achievement gaps. The City Council will vote on a $38 million revenue bond financing plan in November, aiming to start construction in January. The hotel, which will include a restaurant and bar, is expected to boost downtown activity and support events at the Lawrenceville Arts Center and Georgia Gwinnett College. The city will construct the hotel, with revenues from hotel stays repaying the bonds. The project was delayed due to financing challenges and the COVID-19 pandemic. For the game, BioWare changed several gameplay elements and further emphasized third-person shooter aspects, including limited ammunition and regenerable health. In contrast to the exclusive focus on the main story of the original Mass Effect, the developers opted to create a plot where optional missions had as much intensity as the main mission. Mass Effect composer Jack Wall returned to compose Mass Effect 2's music, aiming for a darker and more mature sound to match the game's mood. Mass Effect 2 also supports a variety of downloadable content packs, ranging from single in-game character outfits to entirely new plot-related missions. Notable packs include Kasumi – Stolen Memory, Overlord, Lair of the Shadow Broker, and Arrival.

Once upon a time, the idea of going to a theater or other venue to see video game music performed live was unheard of. But as gaming grew in popularity, live performances have become more frequent, and fans have had the opportunities to hear the likes of The Legend of Zelda and Final Fantasy performed in various forms over the years. Add in music cons like MAGFest, and the proliferation of online concerts in the last couple years (such as last fall's Undertale Live), and there's no shortage of options to hear some of our favorite music in a new way. "Jack Wall is an ASCAP award-winning and BAFTA nominated composer best known for his rich, cinematic scores found within popular video game franchises such as Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War, Black Ops II, III, & IV, Mass Effect I & II, the Myst series, Jade Empire and several other franchises winning multiple awards for his work. Most recently Wall scored the highly anticipated next-gen entry in the blockbuster Call of Duty series, Call of Duty: Black Ops – Cold War and the supernatural drama television series Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments on Disney's Freeform TV. On this episode of the Geektown Behind The Scenes Podcast, I'm chatting with Jack Wall, composer on a multitude of video games including Mass Effect, Jade Empire, Call Of Duty: Black Ops, and Myst, along with a number of tv shows and other projects. In the latest iteration, Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, the game (as you may have guessed from the title) takes the player back to the 80s to the high of the tensions between the USA and the USSR. The gripping single-player campaign has you come face-to-face with historical figures and hard truths, as you battle around the globe through iconic locales like East Berlin, Vietnam, Turkey, Soviet KGB headquarters, and more.Jack Wall is an ASCAP award-winning and BAFTA-nominated composer best known for his rich, cinematic scores found within popular video game franchises. He also the score for tv series 'Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments', and has provided additional music on shows and films such as 'Reign', 'Emerald City', and 'Hard Target 2'.In the interview, we discuss finding the sound for Black Ops Cold War, including piecing together the chorus of Russia singers for the menu theme and working with his wife (fellow composer Cindy Shapiro) to write the lyric for the piece. We also chat about the issues that come with trying to record a huge soundtrack to a AAA video game in the middle of a global pandemic, and the legacy of his work on the Mass Effect franchise. The score features live orchestra and live choir, which posed quite a challenge during the pandemic, but you wouldn’t know it because it all sounds great. The score is a bit of a family affair for Jack, with lyrics written by his wife, Cindy Shapiro, and vocals by their daughter, Gracie. Jack also wrote lyrics for the soundtrack. It is always a pleasure to have Jack on Level and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the music he wrote for Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War.

Vyzbrojen zkušenostmi ze spolupráce s Johnem Calem, Davidem Byrnem a Patti Smithovou, pustil do našich uší hudbu v Mass Effect, Myst a dalších hitech.

This episode is a little bit different as I chat with composer Sam Hulick along with his wife, Sara Pocius. Sam is a BAFTA-nominated and NBC News award-winning composer for film, television and video games, who is best known for his work on the original Mass Effect trilogy, and the Baldur's Gate games. However, he also has a background in computer programming, and this led to him, along with Sara, who has a background in design, building the app ReelCrafter.Frustrated with the lack of a decent platform for composers and musicians to present their demo reels, Sam and Sara decided to develop their own. It has become a huge success, being used by some of Hollywood’s biggest composers including five-time Emmy-winning composer Jeff Beal ('House of Cards'), Christopher Lennertz ('Lost in Space', 'Supernatural'), Trevor Morris ('Olympus Has Fallen', 'The Tudors'), and many others.ReelCrafter lets composers create personalised reels with images, video, and biography, removing the use of clunky file sharing links, or low-grade audio. It also allows the composer to see when reels are viewed (or ignored), and gives real-time listening events right in the account dashboard. In the interview, we chat with Sam and Sara about what led them to build the ReelCrafter app in the first place, and how they approached designing it. We also talk with Sam about his work with Jack Wall creating the award-winning soundtracks for the Bioware's epic space saga video game, Mass Effect. Week in Geek: Andrew spends some time in Portland, Oregon and hangs out at one of its popular gamer bars, Ground Control. Dan reads Marvel's 2014 mini-series, Deadpool vs. X-Force and really enjoys some clever meta-retcon that happens. Narrative Bifurcation: Dan and Andrew discuss some of the possibilities brought on by Nintendo's very interesting release of Fire Emblem Fate, which is actually two full-priced releases, Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright and Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest.  Even then, the ostensible ending is only available via paid-DLC (titled Fire Emblem Fates: Revelation). It's a dangerous tactic, but can be used for good as well. Bye Bye Bioware: Over the last few years, major players at famed video game developer, Bioware, have been hemorrhaging from the company at a surprising rate. This week we talk with Composer Jack Wall about his work on the critically acclaimed Call of Duty: Black Ops III video game. Jack Wall’s distinguished musical career includes composing for film, television, video games and concerts as well as his early years producing and engineering albums for recording artists. Renowned for his rich, cinematic scores for popular franchises such as Call of Duty, Mass Effect, Myst, Splinter Cell and Jade Empire, Wall’s repertoire spans a diverse range of musical styles and influences, while working with the world’s top orchestras and musicians. Wall is celebrated among a Hollywood elite of composers invited to score one of the most successful entertainment properties, Call of Duty. His score for Black Ops II delivered in grand fashion an adrenaline-fueled, deeply emotional and adventurous musical palette that took the blockbuster series in new sonic directions. In 2013 Wall received Best Video Game Score at the ASCAP Film and TV Music Awards. Collaborating with the world’s leading game studios, Wall is widely recognized for composing some of the most iconic scores for the medium. Wall created the distinctive musical signature for BioWare’s sci-fi epic Mass Effect, combining ’80s electronica, synthetic instrumentation and futuristic atmospheres. The soundtrack won numerous accolades, achieving cult status with fans. In 2011, Wall received British Academy (BAFTA) and Spike TV VGA nominations for his work on Mass Effect 2. Composing for and conducting a full symphony orchestra and master chorale, Wall first garnered attention with his dramatic score for Ubisoft’s MYST III: EXILE, receiving universal critical acclaim including several Soundtrack of the Year honors. For the climactic sequel, Myst IV: Revelation, Wall was awarded Music of the Year at the Game Developers Conference. With Jade Empire, Wall crafted a Chinese and Asian instrumental palette incorporating an “East meets West” approach. Working with authentic Pan-Asian instruments Wall crafted an exotic, percussion-driven score to enhance the mythological Chinese setting. Jade Empire was voted Best Original Soundtrack Album by the Game Audio Network Guild. In addition to his composing achievements, Wall served as Music Director and co-producer for composer/librettist Cindy Shapiro’s PSYCHE: A Modern Rock Opera, an innovative modern retelling of the ancient Greek. He also co-created Video Games Live and served as its Music Director/Conductor from 2005 through 2010 performing with more than 50 of the world’s finest orchestras including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Hollywood Bowl Orchestra and London Philharmonia Orchestra. Among his latest projects Wall is scoring the next installment in Activision/Treyarch’s flagship franchise, Call of Duty: Black Ops III, and additional music for CW Television Network’s historical fantasy drama series, Reign. His second entry in the Call of Duty legacy, Wall’s score displays the hallmarks of an epic, sophisticated narrative and explores new musical territory for the record-breaking series including big band and swing. Call of Duty: Black Ops III arrives Nov. 6, 2015.

With a revived vigor, Dan and Andrew tackle one of the [relatively] biggest topics yet: Doctor Who. Not to worry, however, because they surround their Doctor Who talk with the usual thoughtful commentary about topics that For All Intents and Purposes envelops.  Week in Geek: Andrew watches To Be Takei and Dan talks about working with an artist on Long John. The Mass Effect Series: Another installment in their look at culturally and intellectually important video games, Dan and Andrew expand their breadth and discuss why the entire Mass Effect series is so important. Discussion: As expected, Andrew and Dan watched the new episode of Doctor Who's Series 8, "Deep Breath", a bit too closely and have a lot of things to say about it, focusing on the 12th Doctor (as played by Peter Capaldi), its themes, and how it fits in to the show overall. The Big Lebowski: Expanding their breadth even more, Dan and Andrew discuss a movie that they feel is culturally and intellectually important, hoping to expose an angle on the Coen Bros.' The Big Lebowski that you haven't really considered before. Question: Much like Comic Con before it, another huge convention is about to happen––the Penny Arcade Expo, colloquially known as PAX (or PAX Prime). So, with that in mind we want to know, What came out of PAX that got you excited and/or intrigued? Since it hasn't happened yet, Andrew and Dan couldn't quite answer the question. However, we'd love to hear from you! Leave a comment at the post for this episode at forall.libsyn.com, or e-mail us at forallpod@gmail.com. For all intents and purposes, that was an episode recap. Happy Sunday, peeps. This week CY and Jason discussed the concept of gamer entitlement, focusing on the furore surrounding the ME3 ending (don’t worry, there are no spoilers – CY hasn’t played it yet). Our guest this week was no one at all. Enjoy the show. Music: “Mass Effect Main Theme” – Jack Wall.

Tyler Cameron, Mike Murphy, and Matt Erazo join Eddie Inzauto and Jason Fanelli for a roundtable discussion of the Mass Effect franchise. They focus on Mass Effect's impact on players, what it did right, where it went wrong, its significance for gaming, and where we want the sequel to take us, and then Eddie offers up his early thoughts on the first 22 hours of Mass Effect 2 in what turns into a full review of the improved and impressive sequel. 00:00 - Welcome. The GamerNode Show: A Board Game and Video Game Podcast

Eddie Inzauto, Jason Fanelli, and Tyler Cameron laugh through a discussion about morality in videogames, but still manage to think critically about the topic at hand. In an interesting discussion, they approach the material from a variety of angles and come out with some good insight and a better understanding of what makes such systems better or worse. 00:00 - Welcome. Introductions. Weather. 01:48 - What we've been playing. Assassin's Creed II, Uncharted 2, Left 4 Dead 2, inFAMOUS, Prototype, and a quick breakdown of Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer. 07:56 - Morality systems in games. 09:11 - What makes a videogame morality system a good one? 13:40 - Fitting polar "good" and "bad" roles. Shades of gray. Missing out on aspects of gameplay. 17:00 - Embracing neutrality. Why have a morality system at all? 19:39 - From a narrative perspective rather than a gameplay perspective. 21:07 - Morrigan's facade, and how women want to sleep with men who are mean to them. The Video Games Live ReviewWe attended Video Games Live last Friday at the Kentucky Center of the Arts. Jack Wall conducted the Louisville Orchestra in a truly energetic, multimedia performance. Highlights included co-producer Tommy Tallarico introducing pieces, hosting the on-stage competitions, and introducing surprise guests, such as Martin Leung - the Video Game Pianist. Oh, and let's not forget how he rocked out on stage with his guitar, as he and Jack brought together the Orchestra, and the Louisville Choir in an incredible fusion of music, lights, and video. The crowd was enthusiastic and engaged. One of my favorite parts came when Tommy asked for people to open their cell phones (rather than flick their lighters on) and the crowd obliged. Some had smartphones and there was even one laptop in the crowd. I must admit, I had an internal squeek of geeker joy. It was an incredible experience and we'll will certainly be attending next year!Links:Video Games LiveTommy Tallarico's websiteJack Wall's websiteThe Video Game PianistThe Louisville OrchestraComputers PlusRazer - For Gamers.
