A brilliant record by The Wannadies from 1995 to conclude the Memorabilia Podcast and a bumper episode for our final outing. We discuss the career and discography of Sweden's hugely underrated indie popsters, look back on live performances we attended, and provide a comprehensive guide through their breakthrough third LP, Be A Girl, including their Gold-certified single 'You & Me Song' featured in the movie 'Romeo and Juliet' and a couple of episodes of Coronation Street! We conclude our very enjoyable Wannadies chat with our album ratings. Spoiler alert - they're high ones! We take a look back at August 1995 for the UK, and in particular, we share our thoughts and memories of the singles battle at the top of the UK singles charts between Blur and Oasis, which culminated in Blur hitting the number one spot the day before the release of Be A Girl. As well as the album charts from this week, the end-of-year singles charts for 1995 also come under scrutiny, which, on balance, was just about more good than bad. Artists discussed from 1995 include Radiohead, Supergrass, Michael Jackson, Coolio, Bjork, Ash, Robson & Jerome and Paul Weller. At the box office, the likes of Judge Dread, Batman Forever, The Usual Suspects and Die Hard with Avengance are doing well, and Rick recalls an embarrassing story of getting stranded in a lay-by with a date after parking up following a trip to see Bruce Willis' third outing as John McClane. We wrap things up with a recent gig review at The Crescent Community venue in York, where we saw Sheffield's Before Breakfast and York's The Howl & The Hum. We also discuss our favourite records, which we have covered on the podcast. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of the Memorabilia Podcast during the last two and a half years, including Andy Strickland, Dan Donnelly, Simon McGuinness and all the people who have interacted with our output online and via social media. Episode #166:  Between You and Me   (Song starts at 6:25) I'm going to take you back to 1994 on this episode, literally. This week my wife said to me ‘maybe we should have gone on to England ( we'd moved here - Melbourne - in 1997, originally we are from New Zealand. I think we just might get to the UK sometime…). This made think of the song 'Between You and Me'. So I thought aha! That'll do for this week's podcast episode. Then I remembered and old cassette tape of me talking in my van at the time I wrote and recorded the demo. Lo and behold I found it straight away in a box in my studio. So I've put together some bits and pieces this week, as I set up the song..and it was fun As i let the song lead the way, I found myself talking about some of the deeper aspects of life, how there's so many parallels between learning an art and making it your life and figuring out stuff along the way. It amazes me what comes off my tongue as I sit at the piano, with the mic on, just going with stream of consciousness. You build up momentum over the years, when you're committed to the arts. I am. I wrote 6 songs the day I wrote 'Between You and Me'… I think this one's a good one. I think I might put it on the songs from the podcast album #1. We'll see. Of course after the song plays, as usual, I dive into the lyrics, see what's behind them. Then I'll take you through some of the songwriting process - explain some of the steps as we go along. As I've gone along on this podcasting business, it's amazed me how complicated writing a song really is - the creative process is very involved. And yet it's simple really. You just need a good foundation (theory) put into practice (practice), go forward, expect the best - and enjoy yourself along the way. Being free to create and let go all the way. It's bit like a recipe for life, really. It's a joy, songwriting. And it's a pleasure to be recording an episode about it each week. I hope you're enjoying listening. You're my audience and I'm so grateful to each and everyone of you for tuning in. I hope you like this week's song. By the way, I've got 5 new albums coming along nicely. You'll get to hear about them of course. If you're new hear and you like what you hear on this episode and want to hear more music, I have a dozen albums out solo; and with Paul Dredge (folk rock); and with the Patient Hum band (rock). You can stream my music on all the usual platforms (Spotify Apple) here's my bandcamp site — where you can stream, purchase and buy as a gift. www.petepascoe.bandcamp.com. And here's my weekly blog where you can read the song of the weeks lyrics and view my art, if you like, www.petepascoe.wordpress.com Ok. Buckle up and come along for a ride. Enjoy

Story by: Gail NoblesOriginal song: I Believe in You and MeSong by: Whitney HoustonPodcast version by: Gail NoblesPhoto credit: By Asterio Tecson - Flickr: Whitney Houston - Central Park, NYC September 1, 2009, Usage: CC BY-SA 2.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=15828489Whitney Houston did not always sing a song the same way all of the time. (Singing) It's the things that Whitney Houston said and the things she didn't say. That was just an example of my own how Whitney would sometimes change up in singing songs. Houston herself was and is a hit record. The sound of Whitney can affect the mind and the hearing. She could sing words so powerfully and could really reach her audience with a song. Whitney would sing a song entitled, “I Believe In You and Me”. Sometimes she would sing a song the way she did on record, and sometimes she would do it differently. That was my point at the beginning of the podcast. It never turned her audience away. They enjoyed every bit of what Whitney had to give.Anything that Whitney would sing would stay with you. She used so much expression and emotion in her voice. Houston made you feel the words she was singing to you with a real true voice. It was left somehow inside of you. If you hear a tune by her now, it would probably play back in your mind most of the day. Why is that so? It's like a spiritual thing about music and Whitney Houston made music kind of spiritual that some of the world wanted to reject. The spiritual and good things come from God. Whitney often talked about the church and God and she had something spiritual inside. That Something that was spiritual inside of her stayed with her and never left her. When she went into the world of entertainment, she carried it with her. According to 1 Cor. 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness unto him; neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. Whitney was not like the others. The demons that she fought worked hard to take her gift from her. I'm Gail Nobles, and you're listening to the Whitney Soul Podcast.

It is one of the greatest expressions of love in a Christian marriage for a husband to say to His wife, -Come with me for a couple hours. Let's get away from work, from other responsibilities, and even from the children to spend some time together-just the two of us.- For a wife to know that her husband longs to spend time with just her tells her that she is dear and precious to him. As important as it may be to spend time with your children, the earthly relationship in a Christian home that determines the health of the family is the relationship of a husband and wife. If that is absent, the whole family will suffer. It is similarly true in the Christian's relationship with Jesus Christ. If that blessed communion with Jesus Christ is not enjoyed by individual believers and Christian families, the church will suffer. Jesus not only loved you from all eternity, not only redeemed you with His own blood, but He calls you to come away with Him as a further expression of His love for you.Jesus not only loved you from all eternity, not only redeemed you with His own blood, but He calls you to come away with Him as a further expression of His love for you. Our main points are- -1- Come with Me to Commune with Me -Song 4-8-- -2- Come with Me for Thou Hast Ravished My Heart -Song 4-9-11-.

In episode twelve, Tim and Tuesday talk about how we honour and interpret our ancestors’ actions, roles, and impacts — think reverberations of colonialism and class — to grasp the underpinnings of our current world.1.12 —— SHOW NOTESTim: I’ve been doing a lot of work around what it means to have been raised and educated within my class. I realized the need to own the impacts of my ancestry on me and my life, my brother, my sister, parents and friends. This provided a new invitation to see it and take it in—not only how I’m often approached which is colonizer-based. Tues: We are talking about ancestors on two levels: our direct ancestors and their impact on our families and ancestors at large (our people and their impacts). That’s not always a straight line. Tim: We are already ancestors by virtue of being alive. We need to begin to think of ourselves as ancestors.Tues: For me it’s the whole view that says, ‘can I soften my heart to let in that whole view; while very much holding that right now our pasts, our presents and our future is absolutely impacted by our positioning related to that colonialism.’Tim: This is about analyzing our own society with the same rigor we apply to other areas of our society. What is the emotional and psychological state of the people in senior leadership positions? How is that playing out?Tues: The systems aren’t broken. They are doing what they were designed to do.Tim: This ends with how I raise my own children. The power to change is in my house. And something else also starts here, which is what so much of our work and friendship is—the ability to be in whatever happens next and knowing what has come before.POEM: ‘The Boxer’ by Tim MerryThey abandoned meThey should have been thereI was leftBereftAloneCurled up under a duvet cover from homeWishing to not be seenHeart beating, scared“Why did you leave me here?”Fear PulsingRed, jagged and spiralling From solar plexus outRunning frantic energy through my bodyAll the way to my fingers and toesBut nowhere to run, nobody I knowTo run to“Where were you?”This was meant to be grand adventureNot traumaNot weeping at 43Only feeling meWhen the tears flowHand on heartWe never should have been apartOur familyYou and meIn the empty spaceStepped the boxer, bracedFor any attackCome one, come allI am ready, poised, watchfulWeavingFists up, back to the wall, there is no leavingSadness turned to angerReading to explodeUnloadWhen things get beyond controlProtecting my soulWhen you did notI surrounded myself with a team of defendersBoxerCharmerActorFixerWorkerJokerLoverAngerServerConnectorAll to keep the world at bayBecause it was not safe To come out and playNow slowly I am peeping outMy blurry eyed headOver parapet wallsThere is me Looking inTo the place I protectedWhere I am not longer connected Meeting eye to eyeStarting to cryMore tears to flowMore of myself to knowIf I dare go slowWith the flowOf what the wisdom of my psycheIs unveiling to me nowAt 43I am coming back home, to meSong of the day: Oppression, Ben HarperSubscribe to the podcast now—in Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher or anywhere else you find podcasts.
