Batman Through the Ages: Celebrating Forever and the Dawn of Begins! This episode is a double dose of Dark Knight action! We're commemorating the 30th anniversary of Joel Schumacher's divisive "Batman Forever,” starring Val Kilmer as the caped crusader alongside Tommy Lee Jones' Two-Face and Jim Carrey's The Riddler, alongside Nicole Kidman and Chris O'Donnell's Robin. We'll debate its campy charm, unforgettable performances and its rightful place in pop culture as we also leap forward to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Christopher Nolan's groundbreaking “Batman Begins.” Relive the gritty realism that redefined the genre, with Christian Bale's iconic portrayal, Michael Caine's wise Alfred, and Liam Neeson's chilling Ra's al Ghul, alongside a stacked cast that also includes Cillian Murphy, Katie Holmes, Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman, Tom Wilkinson, and more! From neon Gotham to a city shrouded in fear, we explore the evolution of Batman on the big screen during crucial milestones for both films.Where To Watch Batman ForeverWhere To Watch Batman Begins

D.E.P. Espero que disfrutes de la proyección... Rock music's evolution unfolds through fascinating personal stories and historic milestones in this nostalgic journey across seven decades of American music. From Bill Haley's groundbreaking "Rock Around the Clock" hitting #1 in 1955, we travel through time exploring the authentic connections between fans and artists before security barriers existed. The conversation weaves through the 40th anniversary of "Back to the Future." We explore how the movie's iconic "Johnny B. Goode" scene serves as both plot device and tribute to Chuck Berry's profound influence on rock music, creating a perfect time-travel metaphor that resonates even today. Our musical journey continues with firsthand accounts from Athens' vibrant music scene at AthFest, where affordable wristbands unlock access to emerging talent with deep local connections. We share highlights from performances by T. Hardy Morris, The Bad Ends, Slightly Famous Somebodies, and Elijah Johnston, capturing the community spirit that makes regional music festivals so special. The episode celebrates additional music milestones including the Rolling Stones' "Satisfaction" hitting #1 sixty years ago with its revolutionary fuzz tone, Dave Grohl's remarkable one-man-band approach on the first Foo Fighters album, and U2's contribution to the Batman Forever soundtrack. These stories illustrate how music transcends time, connecting generations through shared cultural touchpoints that continue to influence how we experience music today. On this episode of Remainders we watch the 2000 film The Beach. Leo's first major role to come after the star making success of Titanic, time has been kind to this movie about disaffection and discovery in a pre-9/11 world with emerging technology. Directed by Danny Boyle and written by Alex Garland, the film's roster has also led to a decades later reappraisal. If anything, The Beach is an incredible time capsule of late 90s/early 2000s culture and zeitgeist.Other topics include Danny Boyle's filmography, movie soundtracks and discovering new music in the 90s, 2000s music, new VHS in the collection, screenings in the cemetery, the Phoenician Scheme and Wes Anderson's style and legacy, Darren's new painting for Punk Rock & Paintbrushes, Brian Wilson, and Batman Forever and the rumored Schumacher Cut.Songs of the WeekDon't Talk (Put Your Head On My Shoulder) by The Beach BoysDarlin' by The Beach BoysA Three-Legged Workhorse by This Will Destroy YouRemainders Podcast Jukebox PlaylistWebsiteFacebookInstagramYouTubeTwitter

Batman Forever attempted to course correct the Caped Crusader's big screen adventures after its predecessor, Tim Burton's Batman Returns, was deemed too dark. Swapping Burton for Joel Schumacher in the director's chair, the film certainly has a different feel than Returns. It trades the dark and moody Gotham for a more campy, neon soaked one. That change may have led to greater receipts at the box office, but it hardly equated to a quality film. Batman Forever isn't without its charms, but it is also a tonal wreck, whiplashing between introspective musings of what it means to be Batman and the Two-Face/Riddler comedy hour. It's no wonder than that its star, Val Kilmer—who stepped in for Keaton—wanted no part of a sequel. Judging by our Batman & Robin pod, he made the right choice. Now, sit back, find the courage to fight crime with a Shiner Black Lager from Spoetzl, and don't over kung-fu your laundry! Send us a textRemember the 90s, when superhero movies were still figuring out what they wanted to be? Before the sleek, unified vision of X-Men or the cultural juggernaut of the MCU, there was "The Phantom" (1996) – a fascinating relic that demonstrates exactly why superhero cinema needed a complete overhaul. In our latest episode, we venture deep into the jungle of Bengala with Billy Zane's purple-spandexed hero as he pursues magical skulls, fights pirates, and somehow manages to keep a straight face while doing it all. The Phantom originated in comic strips back in 1936 – predating Superman and Batman – as the first true costumed hero. But what works on the newspaper page doesn't always translate to the big screen, and this film struggles mightily with that translation.Treat Williams steals every scene as villain Xander Drax, delivering deliciously campy line readings and creative murder methods (microscope eye-stabbing, anyone?) that suggest he understood exactly what kind of movie this should have been. Meanwhile, the rest of the cast – including a young Catherine Zeta-Jones – seems trapped in a more serious adventure that never quite takes flight. We analyze the film's curious place in superhero movie evolution, sitting awkwardly between the camp of Batman Forever and the more grounded approach that would soon revolutionize the genre. The Phantom provides an unintentionally hilarious time capsule of mid-90s filmmaking choices, from its Indiana Jones aspirations to its baffling mythology involving skull lasers and a wolf that can apparently communicate with horses. What went wrong? What occasional moments work? And why can't we stop talking about that purple costume? Listen as we unpack this bizarre superhero curiosity that reminds us how far the genre has come.Written lovingly with AIBe our friend!Dan: @shakybaconTony: @tonydczechAnd follow the podcast on IG: @hatewatchingDAT

Joe Pesci - comedian. Is that a thing? Or is it telling that Marisa Tomei seems to be the most memorable aspect of MY COUSIN VINNY? But whether you love or hate the movie, how wonderful is Fred Gwynn anyway? And will Austin Pendleton ever put on a performance The Contrarians enjoy? And perhaps the biggest question: if you've already won an Oscar, haven't you already “broken through”? Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is a fantastic neo-noir that is carried by outstanding lead performances from Robert Downey, Jr. (RDJ) and Val Kilmer. Written and directed by Shane Black, it is a film that thrives on its witty banter, sleek visuals, and intricate plotting. Ok, that latter bit can sometimes be a bit convoluted, but that doesn't detract from the repartee. Kilmer has never been better than he is here. And RDJ capitalized on his exceptional performance as Harry Lockhart to catapult back into the mainstream. Yes, he's that good in this. Sadly, this movie didn't fare nearly as well at the box office as its spiritual successor, The Nice Guys, nor did it ever get the sequel it so richly deserved. Now, sit back, choke down a Rowdy Peach IPA from Sweetwater Brewing, and avoid peeing on the corpse! The Thunderous Wizard, Chumpzilla, and Bling Blake are investigating the untimely and mysterious death of Proto-Cop! This Week's Segments: Introduction/Plot Breakdown – Sex. Murder. Mystery. Welcome to the party! Lingering Questions – Why didn't this revive Kilmer's career the way it did RDJ's?
