It is always a thrill to have Frank on the show, and once again we get great true crime insights from both Frank and Burl. who give us preview of their new true crime book coming out this year.****Best-selling author Frank C. Girardot has been called the "Demon dog of true crime" by none other than Black Dahlia author James Ellroy. Praise for his writing has come from authors as varied as Walter Kirn and Michael Fleeman. His books have ranged from "Name Dropper", a chronicle on the bizarre antics of a murdering imposter who called himself Clark Rockefeller to "Betrayal in Blue" a look at cocaine dealing cops in 1980s New York City, which was co-authored by Burl Barer and Ken Eurell, one of the actual cops.In all of his writing, Girardot's ability to interview complicated characters like drug kingpin Adam Diaz, German imposter Christian Gerhartsreiter and serial arsonist John Orr, add a depth to his story telling that is often lacking in police procedurals masking as true crime. In each of his books, Girardot has displayed a unique ability to locate long-hidden public records and distill narratives from complex court records that brings his stories to life. Girardot's career in journalism began as a copyboy with the now-defunct Los Angeles Herald Examiner. As a reporter he covered stories as fascinating as the O.J. Simpson murder trial and as complex as the mistaken gang execution of three trick-or-treaters on Halloween 1993 in the Los Angeles area.

DEATH ON OCEAN BOULEVARD: Inside The Coronado Mansion Case by Caitlin Rother The 911 call came on the morning of July 13, 2011, from the historic Spreckels Mansion, a lavish beachfront property in Coronado, California, owned by pharmaceutical tycoon Jonah Shacknai. When authorities arrived, they found the naked body of Jonah's girlfriend, Rebecca Zahau, gagged, her ankles tied, and her wrists bound behind her. Jonah's brother, Adam, claimed he found Rebecca hanging from the second-floor balcony off a guest bedroom, where the door was painted with this cryptic message: SHE SAVED HIM CAN YOU SAVE HER Was this a suicide note, or a killer's taunt? Rebecca's death came two days after Jonah's son, Max, took a devastating fall while in Rebecca's care. Authorities deemed Rebecca's death a suicide resulting from her guilt, but her family insists she was murdered. But who would stage a suicide or a murder in such a bizarre, elaborate way? www.caitlinrother.com “The Rebecca Zahau case is one of the great crime mysteries of modern times. It took an author of Caitlin Rother's caliber to bring it into sharp focus. A riveting read.” -- Gregg Olsen, #1 NYT bestselling author “A suspicious headline-making death proves to be only the beginning as Rother unlocks the door of this real-life mansion of horrors to reveal a shocking true story of money, power, duplicity and scandal.” -- Michael Fleeman, NYT bestselling author “Gripping. Propulsive. A tour de force of true crime storytelling. Rother is a rare talent, and Death on Ocean Boulevard an instant classic of the genre.” -- Kevin Deutsch, author and host of “A Dark Turn” podcast “In Death on Ocean Boulevard, Caitlin Rother skillfully chronicles one of the most fascinating and controversial cases of the past decade. Big money, sex and a questionable death makes for an addictive read.” -- Author Kathryn Casey --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/websleuthsradiopodcast/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/websleuthsradiopodcast/support
Some murder cases never die…pun intended. One such case is the murder of Laci Peterson. Laci disappeared on Christmas Eve, 2002. Her torso and the body of unborn child, Connor, would wash up onshore 4 months later. Her husband, and father of her child, would be ultimately tried, convicted and sentenced to die for the brutal crime. Fast forward to this past fall when Scott’s appeal of the verdict and sentence comes down. The verdict standing but the penalty reversed. New York Times Bestselling author, Michael Fleeman and Law Professor and former FOX News Legal Analyst, Stanley Goldman joined me as Murder Most Foul looked into this decades old murder case once more.

Most recently, Girardot wrote a weekly column on the 2016 election for The Hill. Born in Texas in 1960, Richard Ramirez was an American serial killer who killed at least 14 people and raped and tortured at least two dozen more, mostly during the spring and summer of 1985. After developing epilepsy as a child, he became a heavy drug user and cultivated an interest in Satanism, which became a calling card for investigators at his crime scenes. Apprehended in August 1985, Ramirez was sentenced to death at the conclusion of his trial in 1989. He spent the remainder of his days at California's San Quentin Prison, before dying from cancer on June 7, 2013, at age 53. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/burl-barer/support
Rob Paulsen is an Emmy Award-winning voice actor, singer, and writer. Notable characters he has voiced throughout his extensive career include Raphael on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Yakko on Animaniacs, Pinky from Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain, Carl Wheezer from Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, and Spike in The Land Before Time films and television series. In 2019 Rob, with the help of co-writer Michael Fleeman, published an autobiography Voice Lessons. It details his career as well as his recent battle with throat cancer, and how his diagnosis, treatment, and recovery affected his career and his outlook on life. This year Rob will be appearing in the Steven Spielberg-produced Animaniacs reboot, releasing on Hulu in the Fall. What you will learn: Why Rob decided to leave Detroit and move to Los Angeles as a young man. How he landed his first film roles. How his film acting career transitioned into voice acting. The perks of being a voice actor vs. an on-screen actor. What is was like being the voice behind one of the most iconic animated series in the history of television and film: Raphael from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. How his ability to play iconic characters provided him opportunities to play Carl Wheezer on Jimmy Neutron, Yakko on Animaniacs, and Pinky on Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain. What Rob’s co-writer Michael Fleeman taught him about the writing process and how he hopes his story (Voice Lessons) resonates with others who have, or may still be struggling with cancer. The never-ending hustle involved with working in the film industry, how Rob learned to enjoy it, and what that looks like for him today. The mindset he went into his career with, and how it still benefits him to this day. Working with new technology such as YouTube and Zoom, and how Rob respects the hustle no matter what medium it comes from. What his thoughts are on aspiring artists moving to LA, and the finances involved in doing so. Rob’s experience joining the Screen Actor’s Guild and his thoughts on unions in general. The evolution of animation, how The Simpsons series was instrumental in that shift, and the limitless potential animation provides to working actors. How vital passion is to success, as well as being authentic and respectful. What is was like meeting his childhood hero Gordie Howe, who only continued to inspire Rob further as they spent time together. How his first meeting with Steven Spielberg while shooting E.T. in 1982 resulted in a nearly 40-year working relationship which culminated recently with Spielberg hiring Rob to work on the Animaniacs Reboot this fall on Hulu. A LOVING FATHERA typical morning in the Atlanta suburbs: Businessman Rusty Sneiderman drops his beloved son off at the Dunwoody Prep nursery. In the parking lot, a minivan pulls up next to his car. The driver pulls out a gun-and shoots Rusty four times in the chest.A HEARTBROKEN WIFESneiderman's devoted wife, Andrea, is devastated by the crime. Who could have done this? She is shocked when police trace the shooting to a man named Hemy Neuman-who happens to be Andrea's adoring boss. A DEADLY OBSESSIONThe prosecution accuses Andrea and Hemy of having a "forbidden relationship," and of conspiring to collect $2 million in her husband's life insurance.
