It is always a thrill to have Frank on the show, and once again we get great true crime insights from both Frank and Burl. who give us preview of their new true crime book coming out this year.****Best-selling author Frank C. Girardot has been called the "Demon dog of true crime" by none other than Black Dahlia author James Ellroy. Praise for his writing has come from authors as varied as Walter Kirn and Michael Fleeman. His books have ranged from "Name Dropper", a chronicle on the bizarre antics of a murdering imposter who called himself Clark Rockefeller to "Betrayal in Blue" a look at cocaine dealing cops in 1980s New York City, which was co-authored by Burl Barer and Ken Eurell, one of the actual cops.In all of his writing, Girardot's ability to interview complicated characters like drug kingpin Adam Diaz, German imposter Christian Gerhartsreiter and serial arsonist John Orr, add a depth to his story telling that is often lacking in police procedurals masking as true crime. In each of his books, Girardot has displayed a unique ability to locate long-hidden public records and distill narratives from complex court records that brings his stories to life. Girardot's career in journalism began as a copyboy with the now-defunct Los Angeles Herald Examiner. As a reporter he covered stories as fascinating as the O.J. Simpson murder trial and as complex as the mistaken gang execution of three trick-or-treaters on Halloween 1993 in the Los Angeles area.

BECOMING CLARK ROCKEFELLER by Frank C. Girardot Jr. Spans Three Decades of Intrigue and Unravels Two High-profile Crimes • WildBlue Press True Crime Website BECOMING CLARK ROCKEFELLER: Murder, Love, Deception, and the Con Man Behind It All delves into the life of a young immigrant entangled in a multi-generational murder investigation ensnaring some of the wealthiest Americans. Posing as bogus aristocrat Clark Rockefeller, he duped the affluent, leaving a trail of deception and national headlines in his wake. Yet the story would grow even more sinister. In 1985, Linda Sohus, a talented, outgoing artist, and her husband John, a computer geek with dreams of space, mysteriously vanished from their quiet San Marino, California life. But why? Were they on a secret government mission, chasing elusive dreams, or had something terrible happened to them? The police investigated while the public and media speculated. But all leads came to a dead end, and eventually, the mystery faded into the shadows. Then, in 1994, a shocking backyard discovery reignited the case. Bones were unearthed, revealing a convoluted tale of murder, lust, and trickery. At its center, the same audacious grifter, whose real name was Christian Gerhartsreiter, who had conned his way into high society as Clark Rockefeller. In this thrilling true crime masterpiece, tenacious investigative journalist and bestselling author Frank C. Girardot Jr. unveils this transcontinental, decades-long mystery with interviews from witnesses, court documents, and exclusive insights from the con man himself. Joe's father, now standing in the hole, began to pull the bag away. He peered into the shadows and saw bones. He grabbed a piece of rebar and hoisted a skull aloft.“I found the plastic bag,” he recalled later that day. “I thought it was dog bones. The head, with some hair, was in the bag.”Upon closer examination, Perez realized the bulldozer had unearthed a human skull. There were other bones in the bag too: A piece of shoulder; bits of spine. Two similar bags lay nearby. Someone called the cops.

The book is called, “Leave the Gun, Take the Cannoli.” Mark has is a contributing editor at Vanity Fair where he's covered scandals, history makers and pop culture icons. This episode was originally released January 10, 2022. https://traffic.libsyn.com/forcedn/shapingopinion/221_-_The_Making_of_The_Godfather_auphonic.mp3 The Godfather was the first of three motion pictures directed by Francis Ford Coppola about the fictional Corleone crime family. The box office hit was released in 1972, and was followed by sequels in 1974 and 1990. The original Godfather film was inspired by the novel of the same name that was written by Mario Puzo and published in 1969. All of the films were distributed by Paramount Pictures and generated roughly $512 million worldwide. The film franchise won nine Academy Awards. This coming March will mark the 50th anniversary of when the Godfather first hit the big screens. The movie centers on Don Vito Corleone and his family. Marlon Brando plays the Don. The Don declines an offer to get into the narcotics business with another crime family, which is led by Virgil Sollozzo. This creates problems. Don Corleone becomes a marked man. Don Corleone's oldest boy is Sonny Corleone. He's played by James Caan. Sonny takes over the crime family while his father recovers. Meanwhile, Sonny's little brother Michael – who is played by Al Pacino – is recruited to exact revenge on Sollozzo. As the gang wars heat up, Michael is sent to Sicily to lay low for a while. That's where he meets his first wife. The violence follows him there when his young bride is killed. Back in New York, Michael's older brother Sonny is killed in an ambush attack. By now, Don Vito Corleone has recovered from the assassination attempt on his life, but he decides to turn over the control of the family business to Michael. There are plots and sub-plots, but through it all, Michael emerges as a force to be reckoned with, and Al Pacino goes from a relative unknown to a Hollywood super star. Mark Seal first wrote about the making of The Godfather years ago in his work for Vanity Fair Magazine. Sandra Boss was figuratively and literally a Boss. She had an undergraduate degree from Stanford, an MBA from Harvard, and now worked as an executive in New York City making $2 million dollars a year. She was respected. She was brilliant. And she was in love. Lucky for her, that love just so happened to be with a Clark Rockefeller, yes of those Rockefellers: one of the most iconic names in American history. So what if he didn't have a penny to his name? So what if he didn't have any form of identification? One friend even jokingly asked Sandra "How do you know he's really Clark Rockefeller and not some ax murderer on the lam?" Sandra insisted she knew him best, but it would turn out that her friend wasn't so far off from the truth. This week, it's one of our most fun, wild, twisty stories yet. Trust us - would we lie to you? One person that certainly would was known to many in New York, New Hampshire, and Boston as Clark Rockefeller (yes, those Rockefellers). Clark rubbed elbows with those in high society all over those locales, but a messy divorce unearthed a murderous truth, and we're here to talk about it! BUT FIRST This Week In Murder takes a look at a senseless shoving death of an elderly vocal coach and an equally senseless killing of three on a Philadelphia highway.
