Withering or flourishing… which best describes your daily walk? And how can you tell? Today on a Daily Walk we pick up where we left off in Matthew's gospel. That happens to be chapter twenty-one where Jesus curses a fig tree. Immediately the tree withered! Pastor John Randall says this is a good time for self-examination. If our life is withering away, that can change today. To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/1368/29
As we open Matthew chapter 21 today we encounter some powerful illustrations. One of them involving a withering fig tree. While application could be made to the religious system and nation of Israel, we'll also take a look in the mirror. Perhaps your life could be described as dried up and withered? Despite ongoing volatility, U.S. markets closed the week with notable gains, with the NASDAQ posting its best weekly performance since November 2022. Bank stocks moved higher as earnings season kicked off, buoyed by better-than-expected results from JP Morgan, which helped lift investor confidence. After the closing bell, the Trump administration announced a major trade concession, exempting smartphones, computers, and other consumer electronics from reciprocal tariffs. In commodities, gold surged to fresh record highs, while oil prices rebounded on Friday but still ended lower for the week. Looking ahead, futures suggest a strong start for the ASX 200 when trading resumes on Monday. This week we highlight Alexis Jay's damning verdict on the Conservative government's lackluster response to child abuse inquiry recommendations and the first major test of Northern Ireland's “Stormont Brake” under the Windsor Framework. Plus, we take a look at the Armed Forces Commissioner Bill and how it measures up to its German counterpart. Child abuse inquiry fallout: Professor Alexis Jay, chair of the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse pulled no punches in her evidence to the Home Affairs Select Committee, criticising the Conservatives for inaction while in power. We unpack her appeal to MPs to stop treating the issue as a political football and discuss what difference select committees can make in situations like this. Northern Ireland's Stormont Brake: Unionist members of the Assembly triggered the “democratic safeguard” to give Stormont's politicians a say before new EU chemical regulations take effect in Northern Ireland. But Hilary Benn has concluded the provisions do not meet the threshold to invoke emergency arrangements. What does this mean for the UK-EU dynamic and parliamentary politics at Westminster and in Belfast? Armed Forces Commissioner Bill: We take a deep dive into the Government's plan for a new welfare watchdog for service personnel and families—how does it compare to Germany's powerful parliamentary commissioner? ____
An episode from Seneca Bible Baptist Church, a conservative, independent body of King James Bible believers located in Seneca Falls, New York. We believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testament to be the verbally and plenary inspired Word of God. The Scriptures are inerrant, infallible and God breathed, and therefore are the final authority for faith and life. The sixty-six books of the Old and New Testament are the complete and divine revelation of God to Man. The Scriptures shall be interpreted according to their normal grammatical historical meaning. The King James Version of the Bible shall be the official and only translation used by the church (2 Tim. 3:16-17). We believe in one Triune God, eternally existing in three persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—each coeternal in being, co-identical in nature, coequal in power and glory, and having the same attributes and perfections (Deut. 6:4). We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, became man, without ceasing to be God, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary, in order that He might reveal God and redeem sinful men (Phil. 2:58). We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ accomplished our redemption through his death on the cross as a representative, vicarious, substitutionary sacrifice; and, that our justification is made sure by His literal, physical resurrection from the dead (1 Peter 1:35). We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ ascended to Heaven, and is now exalted at the right hand of God, where, as our High Priest, He fulfills the ministry of Representative, Intercessor, and Advocate (Acts 1:910). We believe that salvation is the gift of God brought to man by grace and received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, whose precious blood was shed on Calvary for the forgiveness of our sins 1 Pet. 1:1819). We believe that all the redeemed, once saved, are kept by God's power and are thus secure in Christ forever (John 6:3740, 1 Pet. 1:45). We believe in that “blessed hope,” the personal, imminent return of Christ Who will rapture His Church prior to the seven year tribulation period. At the end of the Tribulation, Christ will personally and visibly return with His saints, to establish His earthly Messianic Kingdom which was promised to the nation of Israel (Ps. 89:34; Dan. 2:3145; 19:1116; 20:16). The withering before the sowing was very marvellously fulfilled in the preaching of John the Baptist. Most appropriately he carried on his ministry in the desert, for a spiritual desert was all around him; he was the voice of one crying in the wilderness. It was not his work to plant, but to hew down.

Hello, Can You Hear Me? is an audio storytelling project that was funded by Wakefield Council as part of Our Year – Wakefield District 2024 It features ten folktales re-created by the storyteller, Beccy Dye. These were arranged on a period telephone which was then toured across the District. People simply dialled a number to reach a story, each story was broken up into parts, so if they wanted listens could create story mash-ups.The project included a live, family-friendly performance which launched the exhibition in each venue.Sounds Used in This EpisodeThunderstorm: Thunder during rainstorm 2 by stondi -- https://freesound.org/s/354024/ -- License: Creative Commons 0Wind: winter wind 01b.aiff by klangfabrik -- https://freesound.org/s/117507/ -- License: Creative Commons 0Chop: Chop Off Head With Axe.wav by Smice_6 -- https://freesound.org/s/536528/ -- License: Creative Commons 0Battle sounds: Ambient battle noise: swords and shouting by pfranzen -- https://freesound.org/s/192072/ -- License: Attribution 4.0Sword clash: Sword Clash.wav by Bird_man -- https://freesound.org/s/275159/ -- License: Creative Commons 0Sword block: Sword block combo.wav by ethanchase7744 -- https://freesound.org/s/440069/ -- License: Creative Commons 0Draw sword: Drawing sword from scabbard by giddster -- https://freesound.org/s/484298/ -- License: Attribution 4.0Army running: MedievalArmyRunningLoop.mp3 by Yap_Audio_Production -- https://freesound.org/s/218997/ -- License: Attribution 4.0Horses running: wild horses running.mp3 by soundmary -- https://freesound.org/s/194982/ -- License: Attribution 4.0Stab: Sword Stab Body Hit by -GeorgeDiamond- -- https://freesound.org/s/718259/ -- License: Attribution 4.0Intro/Outro music for podcast episode: Folk Guitar Music Track by Dvideoguy -- https://freesound.org/s/246315/ -- License: Creative Commons 0Mentioned in this episode:Content Warning for: A Withering RoseThe following episode is about a pivotal battle fought during the War of the Roses. Air Date 8/30/2024 Israel's assault on Gaza is fueled by pain, rage, trauma... a desire for safety, a desire for revenge, the hope for the safe return of hostages. It's a complicated mix of all of the above and more and it will be different for each person. However, there's also a deep well of denial and delusion about the decades-old status quo between Israel and Palestine that made the current conflict all but inevitable and the pursuit of genocide by some decision-makers in the Israeli government - as well as the support of the US government - possible. Let me ask you to read 4 words and see how they land on you. Skinny, weak, atrophy, neglect. As a runner, would you want any of those words used to describe you? When the fat pad cushion between the bones and the skin under the heel or the ball of the foot gets thinner, doctors call it “atrophy.” But don't take it as an insult. What really causes more atrophy of the fat pad cushion under the ball the foot in runners…inactivity, or too much activity? Well, that's what we are talking about today on the Doc On the Run Podcast!

Have you ever caught yourself in the mirror and wondered, "When did these laugh lines show up?" Imagine living under the harsh glare of Hollywood's spotlight, where every wrinkle is scrutinized. Today, we're peeling back the curtain on the unrelenting pressure women in the public eye face to maintain a facade of eternal youth. We're talking about the scrutiny of women's bodies and the aging process, as seen through the experiences of Piers Brosnan's wife, who has been both praised and harassed for her physical appearance, and Pamela Anderson, who has taken a stand to age naturally. Their stories are not just about the trials of aging in the limelight, but also a commentary on the double standards that plague our perceptions of beauty.During our conversation, we explore the contradictory reactions to men and women aging in Hollywood. We lay bare the unfair expectations set upon women, while their male counterparts are often celebrated for their 'silver fox' status. With a critical eye, we examine the societal habit of lauding men like Brosnan for simply being supportive partners to their spouses amidst weight issues. Our discussion is not just a critique; it's a call for a shift in perspective. We urge a move towards appreciating individuals for their life experiences, dreams, and personalities rather than their conformity to an unrealistic standard of beauty. Join us for this revealing look at the weight of appearances and the call for a more inclusive and respectful celebration of the aging process. Hard. Crusty. Unyielding.Rootless. Shallow. Burning out. Withering.Thorny. Distracted. Choked. Pressed.Good. Healthy. Vibrant. Thriving. What is this list of (mostly disturbing) words I've just uttered? Especially when the title of this episode includes, “A Gracious Reflection.” Well, it's a list that came to mind upon a recent encounter with the Parable of the Sower from Mark 4. I was struck by the inner dynamics described by Jesus. I've taken his four types of soil and created some reflection questions that you can use for a heart-check-in. _________________________________________________Follow Gem on Instagram and grab a copy of her new book Hold That Thought.
