Richard Misrach is one of the most influential photographers of his generation, known for his haunting, large-scale images of the American West. His work captures both the region's breathtaking beauty and the profound ways humans have altered the landscape. His photographs are housed in the collections of MoMA, the Whitney, and the Getty—but for Misrach, they serve a deeper purpose: creating a historical record. Here are his songs. Today, we cover the campus vigils held in memory of Misrach Ewunetie, and this week's headlines.A GoFundMe has been created in order to assist the Ewunetie family “with the expenses associated with a funeral, an independent autopsy, and significant travel.” A content warning for our listeners: today's episode includes mention of student death and gun violence.
Misrach Ewunetie has been missing now for nearly a week. The Princeton University junior was last seen in her dorm, but her cellphone pinged near an off-campus housing complex two days after she disappeared. Authorities have searched the outside areas of complex multiple times. Officers could not go inside homes without a warrant. Residents of the area were also but they did talk with some people who lived in the area. Universe Ewunetie told 'The Sun' that his sister missed an important meeting the day after she went missing. Misrach is 5-foot-4 and about 130 pounds with brown eyes, and black hair. She was valedictorian of her high school class and earned a full scholarship to Princeton. About Uplyft UpLyft™ is the first FDA-compliant Self Transfer System (“STS”) from bed to wheelchair for people with limited mobility. In 1 minute, a person can self-transfer him/herself with UpLyft™ from a horizontal lying down position in bed into their wheelchair. UpLyft™ replaces slings, body boards, and other inferior “lift to stand” mechanisms that require nursing assistance and physical force to transfer individuals with mobility challenges. UpLyft™ began in 2016 when their Founder, Anton Simson, a mechanical engineer with a penchant for invention, developed the first prototype in his garage. Anton's dear friend's son had recently been in a bicycle accident that tragically resulted in him becoming paraplegic. After the incident, his wife became his primary caregiver and, after hearing about their hardships, Anton set to work to find a product that could help. Upon learning that no adequate technologies existed for assistance getting out of bed, Anton made it his mission to develop a solution. Five years and nine prototypes later, UpLyft™ has become more than just a product — their ultimate goal to improve peoples' lives. We had the great opportunity to be in conversation with Richard Misrach and Guillermo Galindo earlier this summer. It was a real treat to get them both on the call and hear their thoughts on Border Cantos | Sonic Border as well as bigger larger questions and complexities that come with being alive on planet Earth today as artists and humans. They spoke of their collaborative process as well as their individual artistic practices. The entire conversation was refreshing, illuminating, and very fun. Lots of laughs and humor as a bridge through the heaviest subjects. Enjoy! This episode is co-hosted by Leah and Jenn. Tereneh was away. Border Cantos I Sonic Border runs through September 5, 2021 at The Westmoreland Museum of American Art. It will then travel on to other museums throughout the country. Border Cantos I Sonic Border is a unique collaboration between American photographer Richard Misrach and Mexican American sculptor/composer Guillermo Galindo. Photographer Richard Misrach and composer/artist Guillermo Galindo began collaborating in 2011, after both artists had created bodies of work inspired by the Mexican-American border region and its human impact. Misrach's large-scale photographs beautifully capture the various types of landscapes, textures, and experiences found across the almost 2,000-mile dividing line. But, by showing moments of disruption on the land, they also introduce a complicated look at policing the boundary. Galindo's installation Sonic Border is an original score for eight instruments, created out of discarded objects found and collected at the border. The composition embraces the pre-Columbian belief that there was an intimate connection between an instrument and the material from which it was made, with no separation between spiritual and physical worlds. Based on the Mesoamerican “Venus calendar,” Sonic Border plays for a total of 260 minutes and is separated into 13 cycles of 20 minutes. Within these cycles, the instruments play in small groups of two or more, or all together as an orchestra. https://thewestmoreland.org/exhibitions/border-cantos-sonic-border/ http://bordercantos.com/ https://www.galindog.com/ https://fraenkelgallery.com/artists/richard-misrach --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/otherborderwall/message

In the latest Geektown Behind The Scenes Podcast, I'm chatting with Jacob Bloomfield-Misrach, the Sound Supervisor for documentary ‘Crip Camp’, which can be found on Netflix worldwide. From the Obama's Higher Ground production company, ‘Crip Camp’ is directed by Nicole Newnham & Jim LeBrecht and follows a summer camp for disabled teenagers that becomes the landmark platform for the disability rights movement in America. The majority of the doc is archival footage recorded by the 15yr old Jim LeBrecht on a handheld recorder while he was at the camp in the early ‘70s.Jim is an accomplished sound designer himself, along with being a filmmaker and disability rights activist. However, for this project, he handed over the Sound Supervisor reins to Jacob.Jacob is a sound designer, editor and composer who has over 20 years experience working on tv shows such as 'Saturday Night Live', Amazon's 'Tales from the Loop', Marvel's 'Runaways', and 'The North Pole', along with films including 'Bathtubs Over Broadway', 'Decade of Fire', and the upcoming documentary 'You Cannot Kill David Arquette'. In the interview we discuss the painstaking work Jacob and his team went through to maintain the genuine and heartfelt archival footage, whilst also making it useable for the documentary. This resulted in recreating around 80% of the sound by editing and recreating the audio in foley, then distressing it to maintain the original feel.If you are interested in sound mixing and sound design, this is well worth a listen. Jacob Bloomfield-Misrach is a composer, sound designer, and sound supervisor. After getting his start in a music conservatory at the age of 10 he continued a path of musical study, completing a dual degree in Classical Clarinet and Jazz Guitar Performance at NYU. Jacob then integrated himself into the New York music scene by performing in dozens of ensembles and touring the East Coast. Discovering a love of composition and sound design, Jacob formed the post production company IMRSV Sound. Expanding that company nationally and partnering with Berkeley Sound Artists, Jacob now oversees 100 projects per year for clients like Marvel, Google, Apple, and Facebook. He is also a busy composer and enjoys scoring films for ambitious filmmakers. He recently composed the score for the Slamdance Official Selection, "Majnuni," and handled sound for the 2020 Sundance Opening Night Film and Audience Choice Award Winner, "Crip Camp," which is on Netflix and was executive produced by the Obama's production company, Higher Ground. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/americanfilmmaker/support
