Today, on Karl and Crew, we discussed the goodness of God and how, when we submit to Him, all things happen for good. There is nothing we can do that can keep us from God when we truly lay before His throne, because He can take the bad and turn it for good. Romans 8:28 affirms this as Paul tells us that if we love God and are called according to His purpose, all things will work for good. We also had Mark Jobe join us to talk about Giving Day. Mark is the current President of the Moody Bible Institute and the Senior Pastor at New Life Community Church. We also had Phillip VanLear join us to share his testimony. Phillip is a 2021 graduate of Moody Theological Seminary and a well-known actor. He spent 40 years acting and played in well-known movies such as Prison Break, Chicago Code, Meet the Browns, Holiday Heist, and many others. Dr. Cook is an Old Testament and Hebrew professor at Moody Theological Seminary. Your Hope-Filled Perspective with Dr. Michelle Bengtson podcast
Episode Summary: In this episode of the Sacred Scar Story Series on Your Hope-Filled Perspective, I had the opportunity to talk with Becky Beresford about a significant time in her life when things didn't go as she hoped and meticulously planned. She experienced physical, emotional, relational, and spiritual pain. She shares how her first pregnancy was fraught with complications, leading to grief, loss, and deep wounds. Becky discusses how she learned to trust God through her struggles and how He brought healing, leaving her with beautiful sacred scars as a reminder of His faithfulness. Quotables from the episode: Jesus is good and with us in our suffering. If it weren't for my scars, I wouldn't know Jesus like I do. When life turned out the opposite of what we prayed for, I had to heal from the inside out. God uses our seasons of painful darkness to bring comfort to others. Joy and grief can and often are intertwined. Scars remind me what God brought me through. The enemy kept telling me “You're not enough.” The truth is, I'm not enough, but God is enough. Satan tried to define me by what I considered my failures but my God is bigger. God shines through my weakness. God is so faithful and he got me through the hardest time of my life, and now my scars are a reminder of what he has done. Rainbows aren't actually arches, but rather, full circles. Rainbows can only be seen from a higher perspective, and God's promises are still true even when I can't see the whole picture. This week on Karl and Crew, we've been getting back to basics! Today we talked all about sanctification, the process of being set apart or made holy. It's Freedom Friday on Karl and Crew Mornings, and today we talked about the freedom we have not to live in anger. Everywhere we look, we can find something to be angry about, and before we know it, our hearts can become hardened. We talked with Jim Daly, President and Chief Executive Officer of Focus on the Family, about how Christians can effectively engage in culture. We also talked with Dr. Bill Thrasher, Professor of Bible and Theology at Moody Theological Seminary. He is the author of several books, including How to Resurrect a Dead Prayer Life. Today on Karl and Crew Mornings, we talked about how introspective effort helps us individually and communally. Our Scripture reference was Haggai 2:13-19. The rebuilding of the temple required the people to work together, but first they had to look inward. It's easy to look at what everyone else is doing, but we will be only as strong collectively as we are holy individually. We had a great talk with special guest Dr. Winfred Neely, Vice President and Academic Dean of Moody Theological Seminary, about what God has been doing in his life latelhy. His book, How to Overcome Worry: Experiencing the Peace of God in Every Situation, presents a biblical and practical strategy for anxious thoughts. A conversation about the culture and the pursuit of contentment with Becky BeresfordTHE PURSUIT OF CONTENTMENTWelcome back to our miniseries on contentment. When I first found out I was expecting a little one, I had so many emotions they surprised me. I had planned to feel nothing but pure joy and ecstacy. However, I also felt some grief about the things I knew I would have to walk away from for a season. Now, don't get me wrong.I was overjoyed. Still, I recognized that every time I engaged with cultural values and got sucked into a vortex on social media, I started feeling as if I was falling behind. That couldn't be further from the truth, but if it is, who cares? We have to think critically about the messages we're accepting and adopting from the culture so that we can ensure they don't impede our ability to enjoy contentment.MEET BECKY BERESFORDBecky Beresford lives in North Carolina and is happily outnumbered by her husband and three wonderful boys. Angie Thornton (Women's Ministry Director for TGC Quebec) speaks with Mike about the importance of seeking feedback and input from others as well as the irreplaceable value of solitude when it comes to preparing to teach the Bible. They speak about the significance of seeking input on your teachings, both before and after the message has been delivered. Learn how constructive feedback can enhance your impact and deepen your understanding of God's Word. Thinking of Bible teaching as a "Community Project" will challenge conventional notions as we discuss the communal aspect of Bible teaching. Angie believes that teaching is not just a solo venture but a collaborative effort within the community of faith. There are some tips about how to navigate feedback: How to give it and how to receive it! The longest section of the conversation focuses specifically on why men who teach the Bible should specifically seek out the input and the unique perspectives of women, and in so doing, are actually putting in to practice the complementarian convictions that we both hold dearly. Whether you're a seasoned teacher or just starting, Angie Valasquez Thornton's insights will inspire you to embrace the collective wisdom of the community for a richer, more impactful teaching ministry. Together with her husband Dan, Angie served the Lord in Senegal for 10 years in leadership development. Settled in Montreal with their 2 daughters since August 2017, they continue to train leaders among French Canadians, the least evangelized people group in the North America. Angie is the Women's Ministry Director for The Gospel Coalition Quebec (SOLA) and a columnist at The Gospel Coalition Canada. She blogs in French at TPSG, where she also co-hosts a weekly podcast. If you were to rate your prayer life today on a scale of 1-10…how would you rate yourself? Of course, there is no easy rating scale for our relationship with God, but prayer is one of those areas of our spiritual lives that men consistently find difficult. At the start of this fresh new year, when topics around spiritual disciplines are common conversation, this is a great time to evaluate our prayer habits and what they mean for our walk with God. In this month's podcast, we are excited to welcome Dr. Bill Thrasher! Bill is a graduate professor of Bible and Theology at Moody Theological Seminary and a frequent speaker for churches and retreats nationwide. His ministry interests include campus discipleship, singles ministry, and evangelism. He is the author of Believing God for His Best, A Journey to Victorious Praying, Principles of Christian Living from Romans 5-8, The Attributes of God in Pauline Theology, and Living the Life God Has Planned. Bill and his wife, Penny, live in the Chicago area and have three sons. His most recent book is entitled How to Resurrect a Dead Prayer Life. We all know that prayer is essential—it's the lifeblood of the Christian life. But most of us find prayer to be challenging. We easily get discouraged, disillusioned, and distracted. So, how can a man build and sustain a meaningful and valuable prayer life? Through this conversation, Dean and Dr. Thrasher cover such topics as: What does it mean to “pray in the Spirit”? How does the Holy Spirit motivate and encourage our prayer life? How can we identify and revive a “dead” prayer life? How can someone with a worried or frantic life begin to enjoy God's presence and peace? What does it mean to truly encounter God in prayer, and not just do it as a religious duty? What do you do when you don't know how to pray or what to pray for? How does God use our most challenging moments to actually defeat the Enemy in our lives? How can we turn our chronic temptations into moments of encounter and victory with God? Enjoy all this and more in this month's podcast!

Dr. Winfred Neely, Vice President and Academic Dean of Moody Theological Seminary and Graduate School, describes how students entering the school are different from past generations: in the past students leaned heavily on truth in their theology, and now students tend to lean on grace. Neither are sufficient, but have to be understood together. Moody Theological Seminary is a presenting sponsor of the free LIFT Pastors Appreciation Brunch featuring Mark Jobe, President of Moody Bible Institute, this Thursday October 12 in Elk Grove Village. Sherrard Marquise Brooks, a 24-year-old man from Austell, has been indicted by a Cobb grand jury on charges of murder and child abuse in connection to the death of his one-month-old daughter, Nevaeh Brooks. Smyrna police responded to alleged child abuse at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in November 2021, where Nevaeh's mother, Alissa Marchand, had taken her. Nevaeh was found to have extensive brain hemorrhages and bruises all over her body. Brooks claimed his daughter had no visible injuries, but medical records showed otherwise. Nevaeh was pronounced dead in November 2021, and the Cobb County Medical Examiner's Office concluded her death was due to non-accidental trauma. Brooks is being held without bond at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center. Derek Price II, a junior at Kennesaw State University, has received a prestigious Barry M. In its first public meeting before a city board, developer Bridger Properties received approval to convert a small parking lot at the Marietta Station office complex to a public plaza, and give a facelift to its stores along Church Street. The city's Historic Board of Review voted unanimously to approve the design at its Monday night meeting, with board member Chris Brown absent. Bridger can now proceed with its plans to replace a 22-spot parking lot along the Mountain to River Trail into a park, and spruce up its Church Street properties with new paint, doors, awnings and other features. The developer has more dramatic plans to change downtown, however. Bridger, which owns more than four acres of downtown real estate, is looking to build a 135-unit, 84-foot-tall apartment building off Marietta Square. The historic board is scheduled to hear that proposal and vote on the apartment building's appearance at its May 1 meeting. The Cobb Planning Commission has delayed a proposal to build 20 homes on the site of a historic log cabin on Post Oak Tritt Road in east Cobb. The proposal by Kenneth Clary has been met with concerns from the public about maintaining the historical significance of the property, which includes the one-room log cabin, constructed in the early 19th century. The cabin is uninhabitable, but the historic preservation group Cobb Landmarks has been working to save it. The delay is due to a lack of information from the applicant, and the proposal will be heard at a later date. #CobbCounty #Georgia #LocalNews - - - - - The Marietta Daily Journal Podcast is local news for Marietta, Kennesaw, Smyrna, and all of Cobb County.
