Send us a textKarl closes out our “Out of My Comfort Zone” theme with a movie chosen by his wife, who was asked by Karl to pick a movie that he “would never in a million years have ever watched.” The murder mystery film genre has a storied history of entertaining films. Then there's Murder Mystery starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston which….isn't one of those films. We also discuss Karl's abuse of AI, why he dislikes Adam Sandler, whether Matt and Rachael know each other's comfort zones (get your mind out of the gutter), and Pizza Hut's “Book It!” Club. So come join us, unless you intend on being a suspect…of MURDER.
This month, I reflect on a unique and transformative experience that took me out of my comfort zone: a salmon fishing retreat on a remote river in my home province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Joined by five incredible individuals— Andrew, Enrique, Geoff, Mark, and Pete —we embraced the opportunity to disconnect from our usual routines and engage deeply with one another. Despite the low water levels limiting our fishing time, we made the most of our days by engaging in profound conversations that touched on everything from politics and religion to social issues like homelessness. It was an eye-opening experience that highlighted the power of authentic, values-driven dialogue among highly accomplished individuals. Listen in as I share the lessons and insights gleaned from this retreat, emphasizing the importance of open and respectful communication even on potentially contentious topics. These five days were a testament to the enriching power of genuine human connections. This episode is not just about the retreat but also about how such experiences can foster personal growth, build strong relationships, and reinforce the core values that drive effective leadership. What You'll Learn: • The immense value of authentic human connection. • The importance of disconnecting to reconnect with our core values. • How to have constructive conflict and mutual respect, even on contentious topics. • Balancing passion with humility: The key ingredients to an engaging conversation and personal growth. • The power of community and diverse perspectives. Take a breath of fresh air and see just how profound the natural world is. We all have an intrinsic understanding that laughter makes us happy and an innate feeling that being in nature is good to reduce stress - these are all truths that are backed up by science, and everybody, especially kids, need laughter, nature, and mindfulness. Nature is worth protecting, being in nature or near it makes us happier, makes us feel less stressed and feel generally better. We have a deep, existential relationship with nature and our lives will be better spent in it and worse without it. "We all benefit from laughter, mindfulness, and nature in the same ways." — Sandi Schwartz Connect with Sandi Schwartz:Website: https://www.sandischwartz.com/ Books: https://www.amazon.com/Sandi-Schwartz/e/B099GQ97W3%3FLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/sandischwartz-environmentwellnesswriter/ Connect With Adam Weber:Website: https://meditationnotmedicine.com/about/Email: adam@meditationnotmedicine.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/easytomeditate Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/meditationnotmedicine/ Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCPnbji9rDrCfxhY0W8sHL9ABook: Meditation Not Medicine Show notes by Podcastologist: Justine Talla.Audio production by Turnkey Podcast Productions.
