What separates businesses that scale from those that stay stuck? Mickey Lyles reveals the leadership, systems, and accountability principles that turn growth into reality. In this episode, Mickey shares the hard lessons that shaped his “No one's coming” mindset after personal loss and the 2008 recession. He explains why most trades and family businesses struggle to grow—resistance to change, weak systems, poor training, and holding onto underperformers for too long. You'll learn how to build a business that operates without depending on the owner, why accountability and execution matter more than ideas, and how AI and training systems are creating a new competitive advantage. Mickey also breaks down his “dirt road map” approach to defining personal and business goals that actually drive action. If you're focused on leadership, business growth, scaling operations, or building a high-performance team, this episode is packed with practical insights. I will be talking about the brutal and horrifying video taped murder of a young woman named Iryna Zarutska who escaped from the national graveyard that is Ukraine only to be murdered in the urban graveyard that is today's American cities. We have no shortage of murder to talk about today but Charlie Kirk's assassination happened too late for this Report and anyway everything has been said but in light of the subject of today the milk of human kindness is running a little low right now. Yes, Iryna finished her shift at the pizzeria in Charlotte where she worked. Still in her work uniform with her hair up under the company's ball cap she boarded the light rail train for the ride home and immediately started concentrating on her phone just like every other person her age would do. She was just doing what any person navigating America's inner-city jungle would do and that is just sit down, mind your own business, don't talk to anyone and don't look anyone in the eye. You have to be very careful in today's cities because the person nearest you could be a psychotic murderer. There was such a man in the seat behind Iryna that day. The man had 14 prior arrests and charges pending including assault, robbery, and other violent felonies and yet as is the custom of our George Soros funded District Attorneys the man roamed Charlotte freely. The interesting thing about Iryna's horrible murder is that it is not unusual. According to the Charlotte and Mecklenburg County Police Union her murder was just another day at the office in Charlotte. So, she escaped from war-torn Ukraine but not from the urban war against humanity that is being waged in our cities each day. The man lounged across two seats behind her as can be clearly seen on the video. His attack on this tiny woman was so savage as to make description difficult. I will just say that he leaned over her and stabbed her three times in her neck which produced a look of horror on her face that is hard to forget. Blood gushed from her neck and covered her seat and the floor. DeCarlos Brown jr., career criminal, said I got that white girl as he walked away with blood dripping from his knife. Perhaps the most horrifying part of the video murder was the utter apathy and lack of empathy of the other passengers to what amounts to a public execution. One man at least tried to help her but all the others were completely unmoved by the scene. All faith in humanity, if there was any left, is now gone but worse all faith in this country's ability to survive what has happened to it in the last 12 years or so is gone. This is unfortunately not new. When I was in college more than 50 years ago we studied what was then called the bystander effect. Onlookers fail to intervene or even assist a young woman as she is dying on the floor of a Charlotte light rail train car. Undeterred by the horror all around them, prosecutors, funded by the George Soros Open Society Foundation, choose the righteous political narrative of their own beliefs rather than the rule of law or even the relief of human suffering. In Charlotte, the mayor is Vi Lyles who has been in office since 2017 so she has been repeatedly reelected which should cause the voters of that city to live in shame. Thia attack, not a one off, nor an isolated incident but just life in Charlotte as it is thanks to mayor Lyles and the Charlotte City Council. This is an elected public official who has referred to the police as terrorists and has spent her time in office making life for the city's residents unsaf...

The conversation begins, continues, but rarely ends, on Discourse! As mentioned, you can become a member of our VIP community by donating a small monthly amount to show your support, and dive into sports science and opinion. We are also on YouTube now, for those who want to watch.Show notesIn today's spotlight, our Discourse Digest looks back at some remarkable track & field performances and how they set up enthralling races in the upcoming Tokyo World Championships. We talk Kipyegon, Tsegay, Chebet, Hodgkinson and Lyles. Tensions between the UCI and cycling teams boiled over with a standoff around rider tracking the latest in the ongoing rider-safety struggles. We discuss how the failure of both sides to compromise and communicate is impacting rider risk.Risk conversations continue with news that World Boxing will follow athletics' example by screening for sex to protect the integrity of the women's boxing category and the safety of its fighters. Finally, instrumented mouthguards now have an LED light, and we discuss how many are only now becoming aware of this innovation and system for head impact management in Rugby Union. In Centre Stage (48:17) we turn our attention to doping. Gabby Thomas has called for lifetime bans for coaches whose athletes dope. We explain why it's not quite that simple, legally and philosophically. It's all part of the complexity of the anti-doping landscape, which we explore further with examples of recent doping cases and claims about who bears fault, when bans begin and which performances are tainted.Listener Lens (1:01:58) involves discussion about heart rate as a guide to training intensity on hot days. Ross explains that we can measure, but not manage our training while our physiology does the necessary in the heat. That becomes a conversation about Zone 2 training in Ross Replies (1:09:47), as listener Niall shares questions about how to incorporate this training intensity into his journey towards fitness and performance. And finally (1:13:16), Josh asks who you'd put on your Mount Rushmore of athletes? An impossible question, but Gareth and Ross share their thoughts, raising some eyebrows with picks and how they value sporting icons and their legacies.LinksVaughters interview about safety in cycling and the UCI standoffWorld Boxing sex screening articleListener Lens on HR in the heat - Discourse members onlyZone 2 thoughts - the mega thread from our listeners - Discourse onlyMount Rushmore of sport Hosted on Acast. U.S. champ Kenny Bednarek took third in 9.96.-Proving her 10.65 at USAs was no fluke, Melissa Jefferson equaled the meet record with a commanding 10.66 100m victory over the likes of Tia Clayton (10.82) and Marie Ta Lou-Smith (10.87).-After a two-month break from the racing circuit, Karsten Warholm returned to action in STUNNING form, clocking a 46.28 Diamond League record to win the 400m hurdles in the third fastest mark of all time.Stay tuned for our Lausanne Diamond League recap + Brussels Diamond League preview on Wednesday!____________Hosts: Chris Chavez | @chris_j_chavez on Instagram + Preet Majithia | @preetmajithia on InstagramProduced by: Jasmine Fehr | @jasminefehr on InstagramMentioned in this episode…Watch: Kenny Bednarek Says He And Noah Lyles Are All Good After USAs Staredown And ShoveWatch: Silesia Diamond League interviewsListen: Emily Mackay On Qualifying For The World Championships, The Hunger For More And The Decision To Leave Team New Balance BostonListen: Jonah Koech On The Mindset, Belief To Win The U.S. 1500m Title + Previewing The 1500m In Tokyo____________SUPPORT OUR SPONSORSOLIPOP: Straight out of Bikini Bottom, Olipop's limited edition SpongeBob cans have arrived. The next time someone complains that track and field is boring, tell them about August 3, 2025.Today's epic conclusion to the 2025 USATF Outdoor Championships were so packed to the gills with drama that it extended beyond the start and finish lines. You want rivalries? Got ‘em. Records? check. Emotions? Certainly. Controversy? You bet. After finishing a surprise third in the 1500m, the event that delivered an Olympic title, Cole Hocker found redemption in the 5000m, where he closed off a slow early pace in an astonishing 51.76 seconds to win his first U.S. title in the longer event. NCAA champion Roisin Willis won her first U.S. senior title in the 800m a few steps after national leader Addy Wiley got tripped up.Two World champions weren't even present for their event finals: Grant Holloway qualified for the 110m hurdles final but, for the third time in his career, leaned on his wild card entry to Worlds and skipped the last round of racing. Sha'Carri Richardson missed qualifying for the final of the 200m by 0.01 seconds, but her training partner Melissa Jefferson-Wooden added a second U.S. title to her resume with a personal-best 21.84 run. Behind Jefferson-Wooden and runner-up Anavia Battle, who's having a helluva season of her own, the last spot on the 200m team couldn't have been tighter. The three women who represented Team USA at the Paris Olympics were all credited with a 22.20 finish, meaning the critical result came down to one thousandth of a second as Gabby Thomas (22.197) barely beat out Brittany Brown (22.198) and McKenzie Long (22.199).And yet somehow, that wasn't even the most dramatic 200m race of the day. In the men's final, Noah Lyles defended his title over Kenny Bednarek in a world-leading 19.63 to Bednarek's 19.67, but a little post-race shoving and strongly-worded jawing occurred in plain sight of the TV cameras and Hayward fans. It's safe to say that Lyles and Bednarek are friendly rivals — except for the friendly part.__________Hosts: Chris Chavez, Eric Jenkins, Aisha Praught-Leer, Paul Hof-Mahoney & Anderson EmeroleProduced by: Mac Fleet & Jasmine Fehr__________Find everything you need to know about the 2025 USATF Outdoor Championships here:Listen: Day 3 Recap ShowListen: Day 2 Recap ShowListen: Day 1 Recap ShowSubscribe: CITIUS MAG NewsletterRead: Distance preview | Sprints + hurdles preview | Throws + heptathlon preview | Jumps + decathlon preview__________SUPPORT OUR SPONSORSOLIPOP: Olipop is a prebiotic soda that tastes like a throwback to your favorite childhood drinks, but it's loaded with benefits that your body will thank you for.
