Matt Thomas and Ross Villarreal of The Matt Thomas Show review the Houston Rockets 105-103 victory over the New York Knicks which ended in controverisial fashion. The Rockets and Knicks were tied at 103-103, but Knicks guard Jalen Brunson fouled Aaron Holiday on a desperation three-point attempt, sending Holiday to the free throw line. Holiday made two out of three free throws, intentionally missing the third, causing time to expire for a Rockets' win. The Rockets will travel to Memphis for a matchup against the Grizzlies on Wednesday. Over the weekend, the WM Phoenix Open was met with bad weather, large crowds and security issues, leaving the tournament to shut its gates and halt alcohol and food sales. Organizers are already calling for changes ahead of next year's tournament due to the chaos. Matt and Ross debate the differences between prime Tom Brady and current Patrick Mahomes, predict the future with the return of NostraThomas and more.

WRSP Radio presents the 34th episode of the second year of Weekend Sports Huddle with co-hosts Tom Pollin, Hunter Hodies and producer Dave Holcomb. It's Super Bowl weekend and our hosts will be breaking down everything you need to know to have fun watching the game. Hunter will be presenting the case for how the Eagles win Sunday night while Tom will counter with his arguments for why the Patriots will win their sixth Super Bowl with Tom Brady at quarterback and Bill Belichick as head coach. Our second segment will kick off with the final Nostrathomas Predicts of the 2018 season. The point spread opened at the Patriots -6 and is now -4.5 with 30 hours to go until kickoff. Hunter will give his pick for the game then Nostrathomas will let you know where you should lay your money. Tom and Hunter will also look at some of the prop bets that have been established for the game. The Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 2018 will be announced later this afternoon and our hosts will argue which five of the 15 finalists will be selected and whether linebacker Robert Brazile, Guard Jerry Kramer and general manager Bobby Beathard should join them. The guys will wrap-up this week's show talking about the first quarterback domino that fell before the offseason officially begun. Alex Smith will play in Washington while Kirk Cousins prepares to take his turn as the highest paid player in the NFL. It's all coming up on Weekend Sports Huddle. We want to make you part of the show. Call in a 516-387-1417 or tweet @wkdsportshuddle.
WRSP Radio presents the 19th episode of the second year of Weekend Sports Huddle with co-hosts Tom Pollin, Hunter Hodies and producer Dave Holcomb. This week our hosts open the show with the Chicago Cubs' five game loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS. This will be the Dodgers first trip to the World Series since 1988 when they beat the Oakland Athletics in five games. Tom and Hunter will look back at where the Cubs repeat chances went bad. Next, the guys will return to the Washington Nationals who fired manager Dusty Baker yesterday after two seasons of failure in the NLDS. That was the team's fourth NLDS loss in six seasons. The Nationals have now gone through six managers in their 13 seasons in Washington D.C. Our hosts will also return to the MLB playoffs, this time on the American League. The Houston Astros jumped out to a 2-0 lead in their ALCS series against the Yankees then dropped three straight in New York. The Astros knotted up the series at three on Friday night and will see if the home team can hold serve tonight. In the second half of our show Nostrathomas will attempt to improve on his predicting performance of the past two weeks with new picks for the NFL's Week 7. Our hosts then will finish with the latest news out of the NFL and our feature Real Deal or Overreaction. We want to hear your opinions! call into the show at 516-387-1417 or tweet @wkdsportshuddle.
WRSP presents the 31st weekly episode of Weekend Sports Huddle with co-hosts Tom Pollin and Dave Holcomb. It's the Division Round of the playoffs, and that can only mean one thing! Well, two things - Nostrathomas has four more predictions for you gamblers out there, and our hosts have a breakdown of the full NFL weekend, starting with the final game - Pittsburgh vs. Kansas City. Will the Killer Bee's get Pittsburgh back to the AFC Championship for the first time since 2010 or will the Chiefs make their first conference championship appearance in 23 years. Our hosts have a full breakdown of that matchup and the other three exciting (well, really two) matchups this weekend. For the teams not involved this weekend, it's musical chairs among all the coaches. Dave and Tom reveal which coaching changes intrigue them the most and which are the biggest head-scratchers. Also, in a stunning move this week, the Chargers announced their plans to move to Los Angeles. Our hosts react to all the news in regards to the Chargers move - everything from their new logo to their temporary location. Finally, our hosts wanted to begin scratching the surfact on an interesting new rule in the NHL CBA that requires each team have a mandated bye week at some point in January or February. It's an intriguing way for players to get rest, and it keeps the fans interested because not everyone is off at the same time, but will it cause more harm than good? We want to hear from you, call into the show at 516-387-1417 or tweet @wkdsportshuddle.
WRSP presents the 15th weekly edition of Weekend Sports Huddle with Tom Pollin and Dave Holcomb. A couple of weeks ago Tom and Dave discussed whether the Cubs had clinched their division too early. Last week we heard about some dissension in the Cubs clubhouse with the players complaining about a "spring training" atmosphere, which caused Joe Maddon to do something rare, go public with his response. The Major League schedule is down to its final couple of days and Wild Card races are still tight in both leagues. The Mets have clinched at least a tie in the NL but the Giants and Cardinals are still fighting for their spots. In the AL the Orioles take the advantage into the home stretcfh with the Blue Jays, Tigers and even the Mariners slugging it out right behind them. In the NFL, the Steelers took a beating from the Eagles last weekend in Philadelphia. Can they bounce back at home in Week 4 against the Kansas City Chiefs. Nostrathomas also is prepared to make a comeback from taking a beating last week. Time permitting we'll discuss some of the big college football contests being played today.
WSRP presents Week 14 of Weekend Sports Huddle with Tom Pollin and Dave Holcomb. The NFL couldn't get one game into their season without controversy raising it's head. The Denver Broncos squeezed past the Carolina Panthers 21-20 last Thursday night when Graham Gano hooked a 50 yard field goal as time ran out but the exciting, edge of your seat game took a back seat to Cam Newton taking at least four blows to the head from the Broncos defense. Only one was penalized. Newton was shaky but never checked for a possible concussion which has led to more charges of NFL hypocrisy. Later we'll preview the Bears as they travel to Houston to take on the Texans and the Steelers heading to the nation's capital for a Monday night tilt against the Redskins. Afterwards, Nostrathomas will stop by to give predictions that NFL fans can "take to the bank". We'll finish the show with a look at the Cubs magic number and how the playoff races stack up in the National and American Leagues.
