The Philadelphia Eagles are Super Bowl Champions. Again. As this 2024 edition parties on, I figured it was a grand time to catch up with a legend from the 2017 team that had the entire city celebrating on Broad Street.Of course, tight end Trey Burton was the man who threw the “Philly Special” touchdown to quarterback Nick Foles in Super Bowl LII against the New England Patriots. We explore this iconic moment in full detail — and everything that led up to it. A jack of all trades at Florida, Burton originally latched on as an undrafted free agent with the Birds. A few tough-love words from special teams coordinator Dave Fipp jumpstarted his career and he clawed his way to that title game in Minneapolis by Year 4. What was possibly going through his mind as the play call came in? How did it change his life? Burton has much to share. You better believe the Eagles were careful not to practice this play within range of Bill Belichick binoculars ahead of that game, too.Burton inked a big deal with the Chicago Bears in the wake of his shining moment, before then playing for Frank Reich and Nick Sirianni in Indianapolis. He's got many Nick Foles and Sirianni tales to share. The coach we see screaming on the sideline? That's who Sirianni has been his entire life. You can access the full episode here at Go Long, as well as on Apple, Spotify and YouTube. I'll share a Q&A transcript later today.Miss our chat with former Buffalo Bills exec Jim Monos? That episode is live as well. Love this time of year. A ton planned for you at Go Long this offseason. We'll spend plenty of time reporting on features worth your valuable time. Thank you for trusting us to bring you unvarnished coverage of pro football. New here? We'd love to have you join our community. How did the Eagles demolish Kansas City in the Super Bowl? And what does it mean? We examine below: * CARNAGE: The Philadelphia Eagles didn't only win Super Bowl LIX...* What the Philadelphia Eagles' ass-kicking tells the rest of the NFLAs for the Kansas City Chiefs? Michael MacCambridge brings this team's quest for a three-peat to life:REQUIEM FOR AN EPIC QUEST: Making Sense of the 2024 Kansas City Chiefs Season... This is a public episode. Super Bowl LIX is set. The Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs will meet in New Orleans, for a rematch of Super Bowl LII. Patrick Mahomes, Andy Reid, Travis Kelce and the rest set their sights on becoming the first NFL team to ever win three consecutive titles, while Saquon Barkley looks to put a championship stamp on an MVP-level first season in Philadelphia. But before we set our sights on the big game, Ben Solak, Seth Walder, and Michele Steele go through how those two teams got past their opposition in the conference championships and look at what's next for the Buffalo Bills and Washington Commanders after a heartbreaking end to their seasons. The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 2: A new poll from The New York Times/Sienna College shows that regardless of race, age, or gender more voters believe that former President Donald Trump's policies benefited them than did President Joe Biden's policies—40% to 18%. Perhaps most concerning for Biden, 43% of voters claim Biden's policies actively hurt them personally—only 25% said the same about Trump. You can read the full article, from Ruth Igielnik and Camille Baker, here: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/03/04/us/politics/trump-biden-policies-help-hurt.html While appearing on Fox News with Maria Bartiromo, Senator J.D. Vance (R-OH) said that President Joe Biden's 2021 executive orders “opened the flood gates” at the U.S. Southern border. President Joe Biden continues to insist that he has no control over the influx of migrants crossing the U.S. Southern border unlawfully. But as Rich Lowry notes in his most recent article for National Review, “Joe Biden was inaugurated on January 20, 2021. Less than two weeks later, on February 2, he issued the executive order that began the unraveling at the border in earnest. The border crisis isn't something that happened to President Biden. It's not a product of circumstances or understandable policy mistakes made under duress. No, he sought it and created it, on principle and as a matter of urgency.” Lowry continues: “The February 2 action… put on the chopping block numerous Trump policies that had helped establish order at the border, from Trump's expansion of expedited removal, to his termination of a parole program for Central American minors, to his memorandum urging the relevant departments to work toward ending ‘catch and release.' Most importantly, it went after two of the pillars of Trump's success at the border: the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP), or so-called Remain in Mexico, and the safe-third-country agreements with the Northern Triangle countries that allowed us to divert asylum-seekers to Central American countries other than their own, where they could make asylum claims.” You can read the full article here: https://www.nationalreview.com/2024/02/the-day-joe-biden-blew-up-the-border/ According to the cross-tabs portion of a recent New York Times/Sienna Poll, Donald Trump is projected to win the Hispanic vote outright—45% to 43%. Equally surprising, the poll indicates that if the election were held today, Trump would win 20% of the Black vote—he won only 12% in the 2020 presidential election. Philadelphia Eagles Center—and future NFL Hall of Famer—Jason Kelce announced his retirement on Monday. Kelce played 13 seasons in the NFL, earning 6 All-Pro selections and winning Super Bowl LII. In a new editorial in The Wall Street Journal, Micahel Buschbacher and Taylor Meyers write: “The Biden administration is reviewing California's plan to ban the sale of new gasoline-powered cars by 2035. To get federal approval, California claims it ‘needs' this ban to prevent harm to public health from particulate matter—airborne particles like dust, dirt and soot. But banning gasoline cars would do little to reduce particulate emissions, and it could even increase them. That's because new gasoline cars are very clean. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, cars emit only about 1% of all direct fine particulate matter in California, and most of those emissions come from older models. The newer gasoline cars that California wants to ban will often have particulate filters that reduce emissions to below one 1/1,000th of a gram per mile driven. Where do most particulate emissions attributed to cars come from? California speaks as if their primary source is the tailpipe. That was true in the past. But today most vehicle-related particulate matter comes from tire wear. Cars are heavy, and as their tires rub against the road, they degrade and release tiny, often toxic particles. According to measurements by an emission-analytics firm, in gasoline cars equipped with a particle filter, airborne tire-wear emissions are more than 400 times as great as direct exhaust particulate emissions.” You can read the full editorial here: https://www.wsj.com/articles/electric-cars-emit-more-soot-california-ban-gas-powered-vehicles-521b29e3?mod=opinion_lead_pos7
The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (03/04/2024): 3:05pm- In a unanimous 9-0 decision, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that states cannot bar Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump from participating in the 2024 election—and, consequently, he cannot be removed from state ballots. Only Congress, according to the Court, is capable of enforcing Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, barring an individual guilty of participating in an insurrection from holding elected office. In the main opinion, the Justices write that “the Constitution makes Congress, rather than the States, responsible for enforcing Section 3 against federal officeholders and candidates…The Constitution empowers Congress to prescribe how those determinations should be made. The relevant provision is Section 5, which enables Congress, subject of course to judicial review, to pass ‘appropriate legislation' to ‘enforce' the Fourteenth Amendment…The ‘patchwork' that would likely result from state enforcement would ‘sever the direct link that the Framers found so critical between the National Government and the people of the United States' as a whole.” You can read the court's full decision here: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/03/04/us/supreme-court-ruling-trump-colorado.html 3:15pm- After the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that states cannot bar Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump from appearing on ballots, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) appeared on CNN announcing that—with the help of Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA)—he is working on a new strategy to bar Trump from 2024 ballots. 3:20pm- Charlie Savage of The New York Times writes: “In criticizing the majority for unnecessarily dismissing other potential ways federal officials might enforce Section 3 besides a congressional statute, the three liberal justices [Sonya Sotomayor, Elena Kagan, Ketanji Brown Jackson] do not specify what those alternative methods might be. But when it comes to presidents, one obvious alternative would be that when Congress meets to certify electoral college votes on the Jan. 6 after an election, lawmakers could refuse to count electoral college votes won by a candidate they deemed disqualified under Section 3—even without a statute. Justice [Amy Coney] Barrett, in her separate opinion, also says it was enough to rule that states lack the power to enforce Section 3 against presidential candidates and there was no need ‘to address the complicated question whether federal legislation is the exclusive vehicle through which Section 3 can be enforced.'” You can read more: https://www.nytimes.com/live/2024/03/04/us/trump-supreme-court-colorado-ballot/31379f62-f91f-57f7-a33e-37959bc68452?smid=url-share 3:30pm- While appearing on MSNBC following the Supreme Court's ruling in favor of Donald Trump, Colorado Secretary of State Jenna Griswold said that she was disappointed by the decision and that “it'll be up to the American voters to save our democracy in November.” Colorado's State Supreme Court had ruled that Trump was barred from holding office for his role in the riot at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. 3:40pm- Zack Smith—Legal Fellow and Manager of the Supreme Court and Appellate Advocacy Program in the Edwin Meese III Center for Legal and Judicial Studies at The Heritage Foundation—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling that states cannot bar Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump from state ballots. 4:05pm- A new poll from The New York Times/Sienna College shows that regardless of race, age, or gender more voters believe that former President Donald Trump's policies benefited them than did President Joe Biden's policies—40% to 18%. Perhaps most concerning for Biden, 43% of voters claim Biden's policies actively hurt them personally—only 25% said the same about Trump. You can read the full article, from Ruth Igielnik and Camille Baker, here: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/03/04/us/politics/trump-biden-policies-help-hurt.html 4:20pm- While appearing on Fox News with Maria Bartiromo, Senator J.D. Vance (R-OH) said that President Joe Biden's 2021 executive orders “opened the flood gates” at the U.S. Southern border. 4:25pm- President Joe Biden continues to insist that he has no control over the influx of migrants crossing the U.S. No, he sought it and created it, on principle and as a matter of urgency.” Lowry continues: “The February 2 action… put on the chopping block numerous Trump policies that had helped establish order at the border, from Trump's expansion of expedited removal, to his termination of a parole program for Central American minors, to his memorandum urging the relevant departments to work toward ending ‘catch and release.' Most importantly, it went after two of the pillars of Trump's success at the border: the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP), or so-called Remain in Mexico, and the safe-third-country agreements with the Northern Triangle countries that allowed us to divert asylum-seekers to Central American countries other than their own, where they could make asylum claims.” You can read the full article here: https://www.nationalreview.com/2024/02/the-day-joe-biden-blew-up-the-border/ 4:30pm- According to the cross-tabs portion of a recent New York Times/Sienna Poll, Donald Trump is projected to win the Hispanic vote outright—45% to 43%. Equally surprising, the poll indicates that if the election were held today, Trump would win 20% of the Black vote—he won only 12% in the 2020 presidential election. 4:40pm- Philadelphia Eagles Center—and future NFL Hall of Famer—Jason Kelce announced his retirement on Monday. Justin Timberlake is an American singer, songwriter, actor, and producer who first rose to fame as one of the lead singers for the legendary pop group *NSYNC before establishing himself as a top-tier solo artist and versatile entertainer. With his smooth vocals, slick dance moves, and dynamic stage presence, Timberlake has become one of pop music's most prolific artists and entertainers over the past two decades. Early Life and *NSYNC Justin Randall Timberlake was born in Memphis, Tennessee on January 31, 1981 to Lynn and Randall Timberlake. He was raised as a Baptist and performed often as a child, showcasing his singing talents at local talent shows and in his church choir. When Timberlake was 11, he made an appearance on the talent competition Star Search, performing country music songs. In 1993, Timberlake was recruited to join the new pop group *NSYNC along with members JC Chasez, Chris Kirkpatrick, Joey Fatone, and Lance Bass. The group shot to stardom in the late 1990s during the boy band craze, selling over 56 million records worldwide thanks largely to Timberlake's vocals and stage presence. As the group's popularity skyrocketed, Timberlake's fame expanded beyond music thanks to appearances on shows like Nickelodeon and work as a model. Solo Career – Justified In 2002, Timberlake shocked the music world by announcing he was leaving *NSYNC to pursue a solo music career. Skepticism quickly turned to praise when Timberlake released his debut solo album Justified in November 2002. Fueled by hit singles like “Cry Me a River” and “Rock Your Body,” Justified sold over 7 million copies while showcasing Timberlake's talents as a songwriter, producer, and arranger. At the Grammys, Timberlake was nominated for Album of the Year and cemented his status as pop music's newest superstar. Continued Music Success in the 2000s On the heels of Justified, Timberlake continued achieving massive success across music, film and business in the 2000s decade. His 2006 album FutureSex/LoveSounds debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts and contained hit singles like “SexyBack”, “My Love”, and “What Goes Around...Comes Around.” For his dynamic live performances during the FutureSex/LoveSounds tour, Timberlake won two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Music Direction and Technical Direction. Expanding into movies, Timberlake received praise for supporting roles in films like Alpha Dog, Black Snake Moan, and The Social Network. He also began several business ventures, launching clothing lines, co-owning restaurants, golf courses, and eventually investing in a handful of tech startups. After a musical hiatus from 2007-2012, Timberlake came back in vintage form with The 20/20 Experience (2013) and The 20/20 Experience – 2 of 2 (2013). Together, they became the best-selling albums of the year and contain hit singles like “Suit & Tie” and “Mirrors.” On the back of the 20/20 albums and Experience tour, Timberlake fully re-established himself as an unparalleled force in pop music and live performing. Continued Acting, Super Bowl, Man of the Woods Embracing acting roles with equal passion as his music, Timberlake showcased both his comedic and dramatic talents in films ranging from Friends with Benefits (2011), Trouble with Curve (2012), Inside Llewyn Davis (2013) and Runner Runner (2013). In early 2018, Timberlake headlined the Super Bowl LII halftime show, marking his triumphant return to the stage of pop music's biggest spectacle 14 years after his controversial performance alongside Janet Jackson. The show featured Timberlake flawlessly singing and dancing through his classic catalog of hits both old and new. With the most-watched musical performance of all-time, the Super Bowl show affirmed Timberlake's status as an immortal pop icon. Later in 2018, Timberlake released his fifth studio album Man on the Woods which debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts. Though met with mixed reviews, the album nonetheless contained the hit single “Say Something” and incorporated country and roots influences. The accompanying Man of the Woods tour marked Timberlake's fifth world tour as he continued showcasing unique musical artistry and exceptional live performance abilities to audiences worldwide. Acting Successes and Super Bowl Return Throughout the late 2010s and early 2020s, Timberlake expanded his acting catalog by starring in films ranging from light-hearted comedies like Trolls (2016), to lead dramatic roles in Palmer (2021). His vocal performances in multiple Trolls movie soundtracks generated smash hits like “CAN'T STOP THE FEELING!” that firmly merged Timberlake's musical talents with his blossoming acting abilities. In early 2022, Timberlake again seized the global spotlight when he co-headlined the Super Bowl LVI halftime show alongside Mary J. Blige, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem and Kendrick Lamar. The hip-hop and R&B-centric performance marked Timberlake's third Super Bowl appearance, solidifying his unique status as a halftime show mainstay performer. Legacy With over 88 million records sold worldwide, an arm-length list of awards, dozens of smash singles, and universal acclaim for electric live performances, Justin Timberlake has firmly established himself as pop royalty over his multi-decade career. By seamlessly crossing over between music and film for two decades, Timberlake has become one of entertainment's most decorated and versatile stars. His influence across pop, R&B, hip-hop, and acting is nearly unmatched by any male entertainer of his generation. From leading the pop explosion of 1990s boy bands to dominating the charts as a renowned solo artist, Justin Timberlake has consistently reinvented himself at the cutting edge of entertainment for twenty-plus years. With his smooth voice, slick moves, unmatched stage charisma and diverse talents ranging from singing to acting, Timberlake delivers a level of popstar power matched only by luminaries like Michael Jackson and Prince. Though still actively recording music and starring in films at just 42 years old, Timberlake's vast career ensures enduring fame as one of history's preeminent entertainers. In 2021, Urban Meyer & his historically awful tenure as an NFL head coach earned the Jaguars the #1 overall pick in the draft for a second consecutive season. Now with a potential franchise QB looking to make a second year leap & a young pass rushing duo to anchor the D, can head coach (and Super Bowl LII legend) Doug Pederson get this train back on the tracks down in Duval?
This time last year I released SGR #5 “The Great Philadelphia Eagles Rant” where I basically laid out everything that has been wrong with this organization post Super Bowl LII. Here we are going into the 2022 season and I'm back to betting on them to dominate the NFC East. Can Jalen Hurts take the step forward this team needs to catapult them into contender status? And is second year Head Coach Nick Sirianni still watering his plants every day? Let's talk birds.
Coaching in sports and coaching in business are two completely different things. If you grew up around sports like Nate did, it might have taken you a much longer time to truly understand professional coaching than it should have. In fact, you still might not even know. But don't worry, we have your back. We'll teach you what professional coaching is, and how to get started doing it today. We start off the episode by examining a clip between John Harbaugh and Lamar Jackson where the coach actually asks the player if he wants to go for it on 4th down. This serves as an analogy to professional coaching: instead of telling someone what to do, you ask them questions and guide them to their own solution. This doesn't happen often in sports, but when it does, it's usually a big deal. Like in Superbowl LII when Nick Foles famously called "Philly Special" to catch a touchdown at the end of the first half. In the next segment, we listen to Steve Kerr talk about not calling a timeout at the end of a game down one. Steve explains that they knew they wanted to run action with Steph Curry and Draymond Green, and didn't need to call timeout to go over it. This was an interesting analogy to coaching someone to be autonomous without needing their help -- one of the ultimate goals of professional coaching. Finally, Nate walks through the G-R-O-W model for effective coaching, and provides an example to bring it to life for you.Tune in to finally understand professional coaching once and for all, and set yourself on a path to being a coach.Support the show
