Our job is to entertain people. How they want to be entertained, though, might be changing. New data from PGAV and Integrated Insight show that the audience for paid attractions is shifting, with visits down about 11% year over year, with the steepest declines among lower-income households, women, and families without kids. This week, we break down who's still spending, what they want, and why Disney's new Oogie Boogie Bash street party might point to where entertainment is heading. In this issue:-Madame Leota's Swinging Wake Comes to Oogie Boogie Bash-Monstropolis Celebrates H.U.M.A.N. Selah - A Podcast by Koinonia Fellowship

John writes in John1:14 one of the most astounding statements regarding Jesus Christ in Scripture. "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth." To refresh our memories, we must go back to John 1:1 lest we fail to know exactly who this Word is, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." No wonder Paul writes in 1 Timothy 3:16, "And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh." Some translations interpret the phrase without controversy, most certainly (CSB), without question (NLT), or without argument (BBE). This one born of a virgin whose name is Emmanuel IS the Word made flesh who lived on this earth for 33 years as the God man.John says that we beheld His glory. The prophet Isaiah 40:5 wrote these words, "And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it. "Jesus Christ is the very glory of The Lord, manifest in human flesh. After Jesus performed His first miracle, we read in John 2:11 "This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him. "When the apostle Peter described that amazing account of being with Jesus on the Mount of Transfiguration, he wrote, "For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased" (2 Peter 1:17). Not only do the heavens declare the glory of The Lord (Psalm 19:1), we also read in 2 Corinthians 4:6 "For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ." 2 Corinthians 3:18 tells us that we are changed into the image of Jesus as we behold His glory.Jesus told Martha that she would see the glory of God when He raised Lazarus from the dead (John 11:4;40). When Jesus prayed for those whom The Father would give to Him, He said in John 17:24 "Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world. "One day beloved, you and I will be taken from this world of darkness and ushered into the very presence of God where we, like John will behold the glory of Jesus Christ. Reader, have you received Jesus Christ as Lord? If so, this promise of seeing Him in His glory is what awaits you the very second you breath your last breath on earth. This week, Jake explains that the Christmas story is really the story of God's redemption that began long before Bethlehem. John teaches that Jesus, the Word, has always existed and is both fully God and the Creator of all things. He is the source of life, and His light continues to shine in the darkness. John the Baptist appears as the God-sent messenger whose purpose was to prepare people for the coming of Jesus, fulfilling Isaiah's prophecy. Even though Jesus entered the world He made and came to His own people, many still did not receive Him. Yet those who do believe in Him are given the privilege of becoming children of God, born not through human effort but through the Spirit. In the end, the Word became flesh and lived among us, allowing us to see His glory, full of grace and truth, which is the heart of the true Christmas story.

Our study of Matthew's account of our Lord's transfiguration in glory is the focus of this study. This most likely occurred on Mount Hermon a few miles from Caesarea Philippi.Peter thought it was good to be here. Dr. Mitchell gives us Peter's response to what he was seeing and hearing and asks, "How did Peter know these men were Moses and Elijah? As a cloud comes over the disciples, a voice speaks out of the cloud from heaven to Jesus saying "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased".Then, God the Father, speaking to the disciples says, "You Listen to Him." Jesus is who God wants us to listen to. Do you do this? Do I do this?Is your Bible open as we read His Word? As you listen, He will speak to you. Here is Dr. Mitchell on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast, Matthew 17:1-8.

Current Sermon Series At the End of the Day: 7 Questions for Mindful Living May 4 – June 22 The Apostle Paul once wrote, “Test yourselves to make sure you are solid in the faith. Don't drift along taking everything for granted. Give yourselves regular checkups. You need firsthand evidence… that Christ is in you. Test it out” (2 Corinthians 13:5, The Message). With those words, Paul urges us to take inventory of our lives daily—to “review the tapes” to see where we might have lived up to our faith, and where we might have fallen short. In this series, we'll put a new twist on an old form of prayer called “The Examen” which gives us a formula for intentional self-examination at the end of each day. How can we yield our own will to God's purposes if we are not conscious of our own shortcomings? How can we see where God has shown up in our lives if we do not reflect on the experiences and encounters of our day?  Join us as we explore 7 questions for honest self-examination at the end of our day.

This week's guest on the Industrial Hemp podcast is Lucia Vignale, a third-year PhD student at Cornell University, where she studies plant breeding, genetics and pathology. “I'm interested in searching for, mapping, and characterizing new sources of resistance against hemp powdery mildew,” she said. Vignale earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in molecular biologist in her native Uruguay, and in 2022 she came to Larry Smart's hemp lab at Cornell on a Fullbright scholarship to pursue her PhD. Her passion for hemp is intertwined with her passion for science. There's so much that we don't know about hemp, she said, “so I want to answer questions. I want to solve problems.” She said with other crops like corn, cotton or soy, there is already so much research out there, so much is already known. But hemp, she said, “has been largely unexplored due to legal issues,” and the untapped potential excites her. “There's so many things that we can do and learn from it, and we are seeing that in person now with all the new products and applications that we can get from it, she said. One of her jobs in the Cornell hemp lab this year was to plan and execute the fourth annual hemp webinar series, which starts January 29 and runs biweekly until May 7. This year's webinar series will focus on hemp grain and will include presentations from hemp grain experts. (see full list below) The webinar series is free but registration is required. We concluded season 2 of American Compassion by looking at the legacy of The Great Society and asked, " If we accept the fact that there's enough money in the US to solve poverty—just accept that—then we can start asking, how?" So, in season 3, that is where we begin.  In our first panel discussion, hosted in collaboration with the LBJ School of Public Affairs, we examine the modern safety net from a broad perspective—how did we get here, what's broken, and what are the biggest challenges for Americans who need help? Filmed in front of an audience at the LBJ School's Bass Lecture Hall, American Compassion host Rebecca McInroy was joined in conversation by Dr. Pritesh Gandhi, Maninder “Mini” Kahlon, Ph.D., Isha Desselle, and Erine Gray. Episode 2, “What Happens Now?” will be recorded on Nov. 13 after the upcoming presidential election. Grab your free ticket today!
