Lufthansa Technik Turbine Shannon (LTTS) welcomed a flying visit from a 400,000 piece Lego 'Leap' Aircraft Engine, which was showcased to employees, family members and students from the local area today. An incredible piece of structural Lego engineering of intricate detail and accuracy, the fully working model weighs almost half a tonne and took six months to complete. Coming in at 60% of actual size and complete with its own security, the Lufthansa Lego Aircraft Engine is modelled on a Leap, a type of engine (CFM Leap-1B & -1A engines) used in the Boeing 737 Max and Airbus A320NEO aircraft. Making its Irish debut, the Lego model was the brainchild of a Lufthansa Technik employee in Germany. With Lego a multi-generational kit that appeals to people of all ages, Pat Foley, CEO of LTTS commented that its visit to Shannon provided an opportunity for young people from schools in the region to visit the LTTS site to understand the type of work undertaken by the company, offering them a chance to explore the opportunities that might be open to them in the future. "In Ireland we are expanding year-on-year and hope we can encourage some of these fantastic young people to be the next generation of apprentices, mechanics, engineers, maintenance and HR professionals at LTTS," he said. LTTS specialises in the repair of components for aircraft engine turbines and has been operating in the Shannon region for more than 30 years.

John Wiedeman didn't begin his sports broadcasting career until age 31 but he had a vision: becoming the voice of the Chicago Blackhawks. Fast forward from the early 90's to 2006 when suddenly, the Blackhawks fired long time popular play by play announcer Pat Foley. Wiedeman, then working the radio for the New York Islanders was stunned by the news. He decided to apply for the radio opening, was offered the job and has been a fixture ever since. (Foley was rehired on the TV side in 2008 and retired after last season).Wiedeman has seen it all from an emerging franchise to one that copped three Stanley Cup titles in 6 seasons to one that has crashed and burned. But he's all aboard for the rebuild which included a new GM and coach and the departures of Foley and his analyst Eddie Olczyk who is now doing the same job in Seattle. As for the Hawks possibly dealing their two surefire hall of fame stars Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews before the trading deadline Wiedeman said I don't know adding they've earned the right to direct their own careers. Both players are in the final year of 8 years contracts and have no movement clauses.But will Wiedeman be in the move soon. He hopes not and would like to keep his role as the radio voice of the Hawks indefinitely. Time will tell. Growing up a Blackhawks fan on Chicago's North Shore, Danny O'Donoghue listened to many games on the radio. Inspired by Pat Foley and Dale Tallon, Danny dreamed of becoming a radio announcer. Though his career would be limited to a single experience in high school, he learned the value of storytelling and the impact it can have on others. Now a Real Estate Broker with Compass, he joins us to share his story. Being the oldest sibling and grandchild, Danny feels a sense of responsibility for others that translates into the way he takes care of his clients through real estate and outside of real estate. “I'm the oldest of my siblings. I'm the oldest grandchild on both sides of my family. I just feel an innate desire to help people get to where they're supposed to be. It's a weird way of saying ‘I feel a (sense of) responsibility.'What I realized is I always try to live by the golden rule: ‘Treat others how you'd want to be treated.'''Another way Danny shows up for others is to openly discuss tough topics. One of those Danny recognized as needing to be talked about is mental health. As he points out, it isn't always easy for people his age or older to bring up. “I'm definitely a person that believes that mental health is super important and is something that most people struggle with in some capacity, whether it be addiction or just general depression.I'm one of those folks that tries to be open about it. People my age, or older especially, aren't comfortable talking about feelings. Many of us needed some kind of push to get started in the media business and Pat Foley is no exception. But the hall of fame voice of the Blackhawks got his from his dad and eventually to the organization that has employed him for 40 years! The late Bob Foley owned a Buick dealership. One of his loyal customer was Michael Wirtz, the son of Arthur who at that time owned the Blackhawks. The franchise is still run by the family with Rocky (Arthur's grandson) now in charge now. Wirtz had his car serviced and in his cassette deck, Foley's play by play work with the minor league Grand Rapid Owls. Pat Foley has been the sound track of the Chicago Blackhawks since 1980 save for two years when he was banished by then owner Bill Wirtz. But when his son Rocky took over two years later, he brought back the iconic and extremely popular voice who will retire at seasons' end.Foley already has been enshrined in the hockey hall of fame. His scintillating descriptions combined with a robust sense of humor has endeared him to Chicago sports fans.
