Two goals in quick-succession shortly before half-time from Ryan Gravenberch and the German gave Arne Slot's side a convincing lead at the break. Santiago Bueno pulled one back after the interval, but despite a nervy second half, Liverpool held on to clinch victory and extend their unbeaten run to seven games. Sorry for the slight delay… we've been on hiatus for the last 6 games. It's the 25th episode of the 7th season. I'm Paul, joined by Justin and Daz. The Reds have won 3 of those 6, 2 draws and a weird defeat against PSV at Anfield.Part One - The GoodUnbeaten in 5 - last 2 games particularly, although signs through the last 5 where we are very much set up to be more solid:Lots of bright spots against Brighton - first game where we've lost the xG since Palace away, although so many almost moments. Good rhythm and energy. At least 3 chances from Salah passes that didn't quite materialize.Ekitike - could have had 5. Jones, Gravenberch, Szobo all influential.Inter away - really solid performance - Rafa!! The obsession with Wirtz and our penalty…West Ham, Sunderland and Leeds - many good points.Part Two - the bad and the ugly:Giving up goals at Leeds - Ibou! Sunderland - shitball and the difficulty of the breaks in play, time wasting and the soft fouls against us. City reaped the benefit, they were knackered at the end of that match.PSV - the ultimate, everything they hit went in.Part three - overview and preview to come:Salah, ‘the lost dressing room'Ibou and the image of the James Milner ‘20' shirtFlorian Wirtz, Alexander Isak and Milos KerkezWe will be back later this week - with an overview and some previews.
This cut tackles the toughest question yet: has Mo Salah already reached the end of his Liverpool career? The panel evaluates whether he will apologise or whether Slot and the club are prepared to move him on as early as January. They explore the consequences of a refusal to back down, how the club might frame a sale, the financial and tactical motivations behind it, and whether the fallout has accelerated both Salah's exit and Slot's survival. The discussion also touches on dressing-room dynamics, long-term planning with Wirtz, Isak and Ekitiké, and whether Liverpool can realistically build a new era without their long-standing talisman. Mo Salah's explosive post-match interview has rocked Liverpool, and Hayden & Neel break down what he said, why it landed so hard, and how it affects Arne Slot, the dressing room, Salah's future (Saudi?), and even the Xabi Alonso question lingering in the background. We then zoom out to a chaotic Premier League race for Europe and focus on what teams can actually do to get there: consistency, tactical flexibility, smarter use of squads, and the coaching tweaks that can swing a season. Finally, we head to MLS where Messi leads Inter Miami to the title after a dominant season. How did Inter Miami balance their squad to win despite the label of Messi and friends? Plus, what MLS's calendar and spending changes mean ahead of the 2026 World Cup. Episode Breakdown: - Data Dump
Liverpool dropped more points, but at least managed to not lose, getting their first draw of the season. Oh and Wirtz scored. Paul is on the Kop with his frustrated reaction. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
The trio analyse Liverpool's standout individual performances in the West Ham victory, starting with the physical data that revealed a slow, low-intensity match. With less pressure on the ball, Florian Wirtz produced his most composed Premier League display, and the panel explore how touch maps, expected passing and xG build-up highlight his growing influence. Si and Hamzah explain why structure and tempo are key to unlocking Wirtz consistently. Attention then turns to Alexander Isak, whose first-half struggles contrasted sharply with a stunning match-winning finish. The group debate his fitness, movement, sharpness and his resemblance to classic penalty-box strikers like Fowler and Lineker. A sharp and honest look at two players who could define Liverpool's direction this season. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Uli Hoeneß has delivered another wide-ranging interview, opening debates across German football. Jan and Markus discuss this, plus Augsburg's decision to dismiss Sandro Wagner, as well as the battle for "best of the rest" between Leverkusen and Dortmund, and what their double-header tells us about the race to be the strongest side behind Bayern.

Welcome dear listener to the 22nd episode of the 7th season of First State Kopites. I'm Paul and today I am joined by Enrique and Daz. The Reds follow up their win over Real Madrid with a disappointing loss at the Etihad (which for once appeared to be lively)Part one - Always want to start with the comments we made at the start of the season - we should not be picking on any of these boys on the basis of what they went through this summerI've seen this defeat described as us being blown away, thrashed, dismantled - just a few of the over the top descriptions from our defeat to City where the xG was even without the fucking ridiculous penalty (0.72 to 0.61). Less than a year ago, City were defeated, overawed, consigned to defeat by the same outlets and the xG was 3.86 to 0.51 in our favor. Proof if proof was needed that overreactions around the Reds gets clicks - then there's our own mad fan base. The actual game - personally can't get past the officiating. And the easy dismissal of goal related events in such a low scoring game. The penalty and the mad 200x zooming in - cf. the non-penalty at Brentford. Or even the studs up challenge at Anfield in 2024. Grating to hear the Manc accent announcing the penalty., The offside…. Only the Reds get goals disallowed like this. How can the linesman call this? Can I mention Bernardo Silva and his foul countThe half baked offsides being flaggedThe inconsistencies - Wirtz can't expect fouls like that in the Premier LeaguePerformances - people too willing to bury everyone. Ibou does look a step off. Confidence, distraction? Isolated in the press.Doku - ‘all fart and no poo' - scores his first goal since January. Not sure what else Foden, Cherki and Haaland didReview has questions on the out of possession plan - are we on the same page?Being played like it's a cup final. Is Slot being too passive?Making it too easy? Lots of pressing but not coordinatedPart two - Mindset going forward:No one that we play till Arsenal has the exceptions of most of the teams we've played so far. Forest, West Ham, Sunderland, Leeds(?) and Brighton in the next 5. With PSV at home and Inter away.Points max - we could get 99! I think the no draws thing is interesting. Few teams have won the league with 5 losses. So, in summary, this loss carries the weight of the previous ones, but looking at the numbers, we don't believe Liverpool are that bad, and that there's plenty of cause for optimism going forward. We'll be back with a preview of Forest and PSV. Thanks to Daz and Enrique for joining me, Paul. And most of all, thank you dear listener for joining us.If you enjoyed the pod, please share it with a friend. Britain's most popular pint has a major flaw. It takes 2 minutes to pour. This should put people off. Most of us don't love waiting at the bar.
