Mind Love • Modern Mindfulness to Think, Feel, and Live Well
We will learn: How to identify the harmful patterns that may have been passed down through generations. Why giving advice or offering solutions is not helpful and what to do instead. How to yell less. Everyone has childhood wounds and needs that weren't met whether our parents even realized it or not. If you have kids, you probably feel like you've already inflicted some damage by responding at times in ways that turned out to be less than helpful. But the fact that you love your child enough to think “can I make small changes to do this parenting thing a little better,” tells me that you're already doing an amazing job. Yes there are tips about communicating with kids and motivating them and helping them learn, but what I'm learning is that the biggest impact you have is what you model for them. One day they're going to be responsible for taking care of themselves and showing them how you take care of yourself is probably the most effective way to do that. When you take care of your needs first, you calm your own storm, so you can then tend to your child. So today we're going to figure out how to do all that we can to make sure we raise happy, healthy little humans. — “My greatest wins as a mom stem from moments of failure.” A kinder, more compassionate world starts with kind and compassionate kids. In Raising Good Humans, you'll find powerful and practical strategies to break free from “reactive parenting” habits and raise kind, cooperative, and confident kids. Whether you're running late for school, trying to get your child to eat their vegetables, or dealing with an epic meltdown in the checkout line at a grocery store—being a parent is hard work! And, as parents, many of us react in times of stress without thinking—often by yelling. But what if, instead of always reacting on autopilot, you could respond thoughtfully in those moments, keep your cool, and get from A to B on time and in one piece? With this book, you'll find powerful mindfulness skills for calming your own stress response when difficult emotions arise. You'll also discover strategies for cultivating respectful communication, effective conflict resolution, and reflective listening. In the process, you'll learn to examine your own unhelpful patterns and ingrained reactions that reflect the generational habits shaped by your parents, so you can break the cycle and respond to your children in more skillful ways. When children experience a parent reacting with kindness and patience, they learn to act with kindness as well—thereby altering generational patterns for a kinder, more compassionate future. With this essential guide, you'll see how changing your own “autopilot reactions” can create a lasting positive impact, not just for your kids, but for generations to come. An essential, must-read for all parents—now more than ever. Would you like more calm and less reactivity in your home? Listen in as Hunter shares all her mindfulness tools for peaceful parenting. So thrilled to be sharing this wonderful conversation I had the pleasure of having with Hunter Clarke-Fields around the publication of her book Raising Good Humans: A Mindful Guide to Breaking the Cycle of Reactive Parenting and Raising Kind, Confident Kids. What we talked about: Her journey into mindfulness and how it has transformed her parenting as well as the work she does as a Mindful Mama Mentor. Parenting as a life long relationship Her decision to stop perpetuating unhealthy parenting patterns How mindfulness helps her deal with her own reactiveness. We talked specifically about mindfulness, the research and the powerful impact it can have on our brains. The evolution of our brains, the amygdala, and the prefrontal cortex. How her own upbringing helped her transform her own parenting, giving her the opportunity to heal and transform generations. As parents, we have the opportunity to wake up and heal. The process of Beginning Anew, to help us deal with unwanted behavior from relatives. Things to Remember: “Be the example rather than trying to shape others.” - Hunter Clarke-Fields “Understanding the biology of our brains helps us take a step back.” - Hunter Clarke-Fields “Kids are not rebelling against their parents they are rebelling against the destructive parenting techniques.” - Hunter Clarke-Fields Click here for Show Notes and more from Jeanne-Marie, Your Parenting Mentor.
