If thou know not, O thou fairest among women, go thy way forth by the footsteps of the flock, and feed thy kids beside the shepherds' tents. The Shepherd's Tabernacle would be a better translation of that word tent and as the comparison of the previous verses both the tents of Kedar, (not spelled the same way at all) or by the veiled or covered companions in verse 7 - Posers. Jesus had the Tax collectors and prostitutes in His tent and there is where He told Peter to feed his sheep. How about you do you have that kind of tent with shepherds where you can really share your sin?
Candace and Myra talk about our identity as being FREE in Christ, using Galatians 5:1 as the anchor verse. Sharing candidly from their own lives, they discuss some of the things we're free from, like shame, cyclical sin, and works-based righteousness. They also discuss some things we're freed to, like confidence in God's love, life in community, and Spirit-led obedience- which is our truest joy! Spiritual growth is an important part of any Christian's journey of faith. But how does it actually happen? Some believers think it is a product of better behavior, intellectual pursuits, or felt experience. Dane Ortlund argues that all three are good, but real growth transcends them all. In today's episode, you'll hear how Christians grow when they go deeper into the gospel and fix their eyes on Jesus. According to Dane Ortlund, to experience this, you must bring what you do and say and even feel into line with what, in fact, you already are — united with Christ. Let's get real: we all want to be liked. No matter where we are on the social media spectrum, from a professional content creator on Instagram to an occasional poster for the sake of the grandparents, God's principles for the way we share content remain the same. In this episode, Emily and Laura walk through questions to consider as we seek to honor God in the things we post online. When we're known and loved by him, our content won't be ruled by our desire to be ‘liked' by others. __ This mini-series is brought to you in part by Crossway, publisher of Deeper: Real Change for Real Sinners by Dane Ortlund. This book reminds us that we grow in Christ by going deeper into the gospel truths that first saved us. We get on social media to relax or escape from the world, and find ourselves feeling worse than ever. Cancel culture. Shame. Outrage. Judgement. Where does this all come from? How do we deal with it? In this episode of the podcast, Emily and Laura talk through all the feelings that social media brings up for us and how we process what faithful response looks like online. Whether we recognize it or not, social media is changing us. It changes how we interact with people. It even changes our motherhood—what we buy, what strategies we use, and where we go for hope and help. In the first episode of our social media mini-series, Laura and Emily invite us to wake-up to the impact of social media on our lives. If we want to know how to swim in the waters of social media, we need to take a hard look at it's risks and pitfalls. But as we bring the gospel to bear on our social media use, we can ask God to shape our desires and impulses for what brings the longest good to our families. __ This mini-series is brought to you in part by Crossway, publisher of Deeper: Real Change for Real Sinners by Dane Ortlund. To Grow in Our Faith, We Need to Go Deeper One of the best books I've ever read about who Jesus really is was written by Dane Ortlund . The book is called Gentle and Lowly: The Heart of Christ for Sinners and Sufferers, and it has changed my mind about how God and Jesus want us to see them. Dane Ortlund is with us on the show today to talk about Jesus, our gentle and lowly Savior, and how we can get to know him better. Dane's new book is coming out on September 14, and is called Deeper: Real Change for Real Sinners. I'm reading an advance copy now, and it's amazing. Dane's publisher, Crossway, has graciously agreed to give us six copies (three each) of his books for free to the first listeners who write in to lee@drleewarren.com or wleewarrenmd.com/voicemail Please send me your address if you want a book! First three listeners to request each book will get them for free!
My guest for The Happy Hour #395 is Dane Ortlund! Dane C. Ortlund is the author of Gentle and Lowly: The Heart of Christ for Sinners and Sufferers and Deeper: Real Change for Real Sinners. Dane and his wife, Stacey, have five children. In today’s show, Dane dives into the message of his book, and how much God moves towards us rather than fleeing from our grossness and sin - something that no one else does for us so perfectly. It was so powerful when Dane said “All you have to do is collapse to get to Him (Jesus). The way you get to Him isn’t by climbing a ladder - it’s by falling down. All you do is fall into Him, but most of us are too proud to do even that.” For the full summary and links to the show, click the link below!
