Shonda Rhimes resigned from the Kennedy Center Board of Trustees on Wednesday following the election of President Donald Trump as the Performing Arts institution's chairman. The "Grey's Anatomy" writer and producer was appointed to the board by President Barack Obama and served as its treasurer until Wednesday's announcement. "Please be advised that as of today, Shonda Rhimes has resigned from the board of the Kennedy Center," a spokesperson for the writer and producer said. The news came just hours after Trump announced on his Truth Social platform that he was "unanimously" elected chairman of the Kennedy Center after longtime President Deborah F. Rutter was fired from her post. Rhimes' resignation followed on the heels of singer-songwriter Ben Folds resigning as artistic advisor of the Center's National Symphony Orchestra. Today, the NAACP announced that comedy legend and cultural icon Dave Chappelle will receive the prestigious President's Award during the "56th NAACP Image Awards" airing live from the Pasadena Civic Auditorium on Saturday, February 22, at 6:00/8:00 p.m. ET/PT on BET and CBS. This year, the broadcast will be extended by 30 minutes to 2.5 hours. The NAACP has also announced that the legendary Wayans family will be inducted into the esteemed NAACP Image Awards Hall of Fame during the ceremony. Learn more about your ad choices. Mary & Blake recap and give reaction to Bridgerton episode 3.05 - Tick Tock. In this episode, we chat why this show has succeeded in humanizing it's characters amidst the plot mechanics, important visual cues for subtext, and why engagement parties are just so damn awkward...especially ours...
I remember reading Shonda Rhimes's Year of Yes shortly after moving to San Francisco. In the book, Rhimes discusses how she spent a year saying yes to every invitation, request, and opportunity to play with her children that came her way. She found the experience brought her so much joy as well as new friendships and opportunities. What did I feel when I read this book? Guilt. I felt guilty because I did not want to say yes. I was tired. At that time, I had a total three-hour commute and loads of paperwork after the workday. The last thing I wanted to do was say yes to anything extraneous. Michelle and I have realized that life comes with seasons of expansion as well as seasons of contraction, seasons of yes, and seasons of no. In our seasons of yes we bring in new friendships, new hobbies, new opportunities, and new experiences. We remember these seasons fondly as times when we were exploring. Just as important is the season of no. Derek Sivers puts it eloquently in his piece “No yes. Either Hell Yeah! or no”. Seasons of no are about clearing the calendar, the mind, and the home. No to everything extra! Hell yes or no is minimalism applied to our lives. Our “no's” create moments of stillness, quiet, and boredom where new insights and ideas grow and flourish. We see this with the collective calendar clearing brought on by COVID-19. Many people report they found clarity in their purpose and direction when they were forced to do less. What season are you in right now? Yes or no? What insights are you finding from this season of your life? Comment below. Show Notes:No yes. How to Get Away with Murder». ABOUT QUEEN CHARLOTTE: THE OFFICIAL PODCASTOn this special new season of Bridgerton: The Official Podcast, we're diving into each episode of Shondaland's glittering prequel, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, the new limited series on Netflix. Queen Charlotte :The Official Podcast is the official companion podcast launching May 18th. Host Gabrielle Collins is an expert on the Bridgerton universe.GABRIELLE COLLINS BIO (FROM SHONDALAND.COM)Gabrielle Collins is a podcast producer known for her work on iHeartMedia's food and travel podcasts such as Tom Colicchio's Citizen Chef and WBEZ podcasts, including the Amnesty International USA Media Award-winning 16 Shots. She grew up between Chicago and the Bahamas and both studied theater and politics and got her Master's in Journalism from New York University. That's where she discovered her love for audio."Television is my jam," she tells Shondaland. "Yes, and I love telling stories with sound."When she was a fledgling producer, it coincided with the heyday of Scandal, which Collins says was an escape between long days of writing and reporting."I was working at ABC News and New York Public Radio at the same time," she says, "so I had to drum up some non-stop Olivia Pope energy. And sometimes Cyrus [laughs]. I can actually timestamp my journey as a producer with Shondaland moments: The Greys' plane crash episode aired days before I flew to London (to finish up my capstone at Oriel). Viola Davis as Annalise in HTGAWM took off that wig around the time I struggled with how to bring my whole self to work. I can keep going. But above all, these moments, and the teams that made them of course, renewed the power of drama and storytelling for me. And I'd bet there are a lot of people who feel that way about Rhimes and the writers and everybody involved so giving those people a podcast that goes inside a Shondaland production is the cherry on top of what I get to do." https://www.iheart.com/podcast/1119-queen-charlotte-a-bridger-77492332/https://www.shondaland.com/inspire/shondaland-bridgerton-behind-the-scenes/a35614752/gabrielle-collins-bridgerton-the-official-podcast/
Mary & Blake discuss Queen Charlotte 1.01- "The Queen To Be". In this episode, we chat about why the show doesn't care about what you think about it's historical accuracy and why thats a good thing, why the character Queen Charlotte is very different, but also very much the same in both timelines, and Mary has a fantastic prediction about the royal family within the Bridgerton-verse.
Mary & Blake discuss future episodes of Queen Charlotte for Mary & Blake Media and where to find them.
Shonda Rhimes is one of the most accomplished TV writers and producers of our time. She's written shows like Scandal, Private Practice, How To Get Away With Murder, and Bridgerton. And of course, Grey's Anatomy, one of the longest-running prime time TV shows ever. Her newest project is Queen Charlotte - it's a spinoff of the Bridgerton series, which was produced by Rhimes and her company Shondaland. Like Bridgerton, Queen Charlotte is a period drama series set in the Regency Era. But instead of the Bridgerton family, the show focuses on the queen herself, and her rise to power. She discusses this and more with our correspondent, journalist Jarrett Hill.

Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for September 30, 2022 is: proselytize PRAH-suh-luh-tyze verb Proselytize is a formal word that means “to try to persuade people to join a religion, cause, or group.” // Eliza is a staunch environmentalist who always feels the need to proselytize to anyone who doesn't drive an electric or hybrid car. See the entry > Examples: “... [Television mogul Shonda] Rhimes also stresses that, when it comes to her work and the shows she's creating, she's not trying to proselytize or push agendas, outside of simply expressing herself. ‘I don't like to be preached at,' Rhimes says, ‘and I'm not interested in preaching.'” — Zach Seemayer, ET Online (etonline.com), 5 Jan. 2022 Did you know? Proselytize comes from the noun proselyte, meaning “a new convert,” which in turn ultimately comes from the Greek prosēlytos, meaning “stranger” or “newcomer.” When proselytize entered English in the 17th century, it had a distinctly religious connotation and meant simply “to recruit religious converts.” This meaning is still common, but today one can also proselytize in a broader sense—recruiting converts to one's political party or pet cause, for example.

These speeches are Educational, Entertaining, and Inspirational and designed to help us transition into the business world. I reflected on seeing if I could remember my High School and College Commencement speeches. Now that was a long time ago, and sadly I do not. Perhaps I was distracted talking to my sister Lynn and missed it. For me to retain important information, it has to connect to me. More importantly, if you can keep the message simple ( maybe three words laughing), you can recall the wisdom you learned. I thought I would share a few of my favorite Commencement speeches that can apply to your Business and a simple phrase my nephew Will lives his life by that you are sure to remember! View setbacks as opportunities / Steve Jobs, Stanford University, 2005 This powerful speech from the late Steve Jobs (entrepreneur, Apple founder, and tech icon) will resonate no matter where you're at in your career. Sharing stories from pivotal events in his life — getting fired from Apple, and receiving a cancer diagnosis — Jobs explains that your setbacks often lead you to success. He encourages you to approach every obstacle as an opportunity to learn and pursue the work that inspires you. He says, "The only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do." Successful business owners are always willing to learn and evolve. Whether you look to podcasts, past teachers, mentors, or other business owners, you can find valuable lessons about fear, change, growth, and purpose. Embrace failure / J.K. Rowling, Harvard University, 2008 J.K Rowling wrote Seven Harry Potter Books because she Embraced Failure. In her speech, J.K. Rowling talks about the inherent value of Failure: it helps you succeed. Drawing on her experience as a poor single mother struggling to publish her first book, Rowling explains that Failure can be a driving force: that liberates you from fear and motivates you to pursue what you want most. As she puts it, "It is impossible to live without failing at something unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all — in which case, you fail by default." Take a cue from Rowling and embrace your business failures as opportunities to grow and become bolder. "If it doesn't feel right, don't do it." — Oprah Winfrey's 2008 speech at Stanford University. Don't sacrifice Happiness for Money! "When you're doing the work you're meant to do, it feels right, and every day is a bonus, regardless of what you're getting paid," she said. Oprah shared that feelings are your GPS for life. She said you could feel when you're doing the right thing in your gut. Your emotional guidance system lets you know when you're supposed to do Something or not supposed to do Something," she said. She explained that doing what your instincts tell you to do will make you more successful because it will drive you to work harder and save you from debilitating stress. "If it doesn't feel right, don't do it. That's the lesson. And that lesson alone will save you, my friends, much grief," Winfrey said. When you don't know what to do, get still, get very still, until you know what to do." Spend less time dreaming and more time doing / Shonda Rhimes, Dartmouth, 2014 Grey's Anatomy, Scandal, and Bridgerton would not be possible for our entertainment viewing without Shonda Rhimes. Her commencement speech message was about what to do if you feel overwhelmed or paralyzed by the dreams you have for your Business. Shonda Rhimes shares, "While [some] are busy dreaming, the really happy people, the really successful people, the really interesting, engaged, powerful people, are busy doing." Dreaming is only effective if you follow it with action — whether you're brainstorming a new business model or imagining how to grow your company. You don't even need to know what you want to do. Rhimes says the most important thing is to stay open to possibilities and start somewhere. If there is a Will, there is Way / Will Fick Penn State 2022 Will Fick is my nephew, 24 years old, with Down Syndrome. Thanks to the Live stream, I was able to see Will in his Blue Graduation gown walk with others to get his diploma. Will earned his certification from the College of Education, "Worklink Strategies and employability ."The WorkLink program provides an opportunity for individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ID) to participate in postsecondary experiences and education alongside their peers. This program provides Will with the skills to work in the business world. " If there is a Will, there is a Way." I share this simple phrase because I believe it can inspire you with your Business. Will has never met a stranger; he is excited to learn new things. As I watched Will grow into a young man, I learned many lessons from him. Be Kind, Laugh, Learn Something new each day, Let go of the past, Live in the moment, and yes, If there is a Will, there is a Way! So I encourage you to stop and think about your commencement speech. What words of encouragement and inspiration can you share with yourself that can inspire you to keep investing in yourself and your future. It's all about your perspective, and if you have the Will, you can find a Way!

In this episode, Leah speaks with mental health professional and PhD candidate, Sydney Cople. Sydney is here to talk about all things play therapy. Though our children have complex minds, emotional needs, and a desire to understand the world around them, sitting down with a therapist to process doesn't work for our youngest members of society. Instead, children (and adults!) can benefit from playing. Yes, playing. Sydney discusses everything from the minute details of how a play therapy space is organized, to the many reasons a caregiver might elect to send their child to a play therapist. The bottom line? Allowing our children to play can have massive benefits for their social skills, mental health, and attachment to family members. To find a certified play therapist near you, check out the Association for Play Therapy directory! The Book Blurb in this episode is from Year of Yes, a memoir by Shonda Rhimes.
