When a father's greatest nightmare strikes his family not once but twice, can Heaven still find a way to spark hope?Idaho rancher, husband, and devoted father Eldon Buchanan returns to Latter-day Lights to share the sacred tender mercies that steadied him after losing his son to suicide: Feeling the invisible strength of his son hoisting boulders for his memorial, a climb up Mount Borah where the Northern Lights felt like an embrace from Heaven, and a New Year's graveside visit where impossibly perfect snowflakes drifted down on him, as though signed by his boys' own hands. In this raw retelling, Eldon shows how the Savior's love reaches through depression's deepest shadows with quiet, unmistakable reminders: You are seen, and no child slips from His grasp. If you—or someone you love—are wrestling with grief or suicidal despair, Eldon's witness offers heartfelt advice and uplifting reasons to keep going: Even shattered hearts can experience miracles, and sorrow can be transformed into an unshakable testimony—that Christ never leaves His wounded ones alone.*** Please SHARE Eldon's story and help us spread hope and light to others. ***To WATCH this episode, visit: https://youtu.be/9IqH01jFAZc-----To WATCH Eldon's first episode on Latter-Day Lights, visit: https://youtu.be/3phtG9B-2GkTo WATCH Eldon's second episode on Latter-Day Lights, visit: https://youtu.be/aSJ6p0aDI00-----Keep updated with us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/latter.day.lights/Follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/latterdaylightsAlso, if you have a faith-promoting or inspiring story, or know someone who does, please let us know by going to https://www.latterdaylights.com and reaching out to us.

When pillars of certainty crumble, is it possible to rebuild something even stronger in their place? When two trusted ward members announced they were leaving the Church, newly called bishop Scott Brandley was rocked to the core. Overnight, the man called to strengthen spirituality in others found himself wrestling with his own doubts, spiralling into a crisis of faith, and stripping his testimony down to five essential questions around God, Joseph Smith, and The Book of Mormon. In this special milestone episode of Latter-day Lights, the tables turn as beloved host Scott steps into the guest chair. With candor and humility, he shares the origins of how prayer-filled walks, sleepless study sessions, and Heaven-sent impressions rebuilt his faith while igniting two unexpected missions along the way: launching this very podcast, "Latter-Day Lights," and penning his new upcoming book, “Faith to Stay.”From shepherding a ward through turbulent times, to teaming up with co-host and good friend Alisha Coakley to invite growth, instill faith, and inspire others, Scott's journey is proof that God can use cracked foundations to plant pillars of testimony. When the Lord calls you to rebuild lives beyond your wildest dreams, will you be brave enough to take the first step?Father and serial entrepreneur Patrick Sedivy recounts how a divine prompting to serve in the Czech Republic propelled him on a decade-long mission to create Cumorah Academy—one of the leading faith-driven leadership institutions in the world. Met initially with failure when an early venture fell flat, Patrick chose to learn from the disappointment rather than abandon his God-given purpose. Even through hardships such as financial setbacks and soul-stretching leaps of faith, he never stopped piecing together the blueprint for the best real-world curriculum a school like his had to offer—one in which spiritual conviction and practical life skills intertwine.Nestled in the Czech countryside, Cumorah Academy today stands as a transformative place of growth for young adults worldwide, in spite of its foundations originating from immense sacrifice. When the pillars of faith begin to quake, will you retreat to familiar ground, or brave the tremors to seek answers?Musician and doctoral audiology student, Marlisa Wootton, recalls a pivotal moment in 2020 when she dared to confront the unsettling waves of a faith crisis—an inner storm that questioned the spiritual foundation she once thought unshakable. Taking the risk of willingly diving into controversial thought spirals and studies on Church history, societal issues, and personal identity, she found herself at a crossroads: remain in familiar but secluded territory, or rebuild a testimony strong enough to find the answers to her faith's purpose.Fueled by curiosity, Marlisa chose a path of bold inquiry—discovering that deconstruction can bring about a tender new understanding of Heavenly Father's boundless love. Through heartfelt introspection on everything from LGBTQ matters to the longing for Heavenly Mother, her journey blossomed into an inspired musical calling: rewriting and composing cherished hymns to reflect the beauty of embracing questions without losing faith.Join us as Marlisa reveals how searching for truth in the deepest doubts awakened a richer spiritual resonance and fortified her resolve to remain exactly where God needed her to be. Her story stands as a hopeful testament that every moment of spiritual upheaval can become a sacred invitation to look deeper, love more resolutely, and rediscover the unbreakable promise of the Savior's guiding presence.*** Please SHARE Marlisa's story and help us spread hope and light to others. ***To WATCH this episode, visit: https://youtu.be/QgaBwMc_c0A-----To WATCH "Stand Forever" by Lawrence Corbridge, visit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSEsLtwKzvwTo CONTACT Marlisa, email: wootton.marlisa@gmail.comTo READ Marlisa's book "Praises: A Collection of Hymns and Poems," visit: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BQY45SSBTo LISTEN to Marlisa's instrumental version of "I'll Stay Where You Want Me To Stay," visit: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hwty-MVfFsOwrfJKHRx-m_QlAX19z4nM/view?usp=sharing-----Keep updated with us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/latter.day.lights/Follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/latterdaylightsAlso, if you have a faith-promoting or inspiring story, or know someone who does, please let us know by going to https://www.latterdaylights.com and reaching out to us.

The Gospel of Mark is a powerful account of Jesus Christ’s life and ministry. In the first chapter, we’re introduced to John the Baptist, who prepares the way for the Lord’s coming. As Jesus is baptized by John, the heavens open up and God the Father declares, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.” From there, Jesus is driven into the wilderness to be tempted by Satan for 40 days. He emerges victorious and begins his ministry in Galilee, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God. Jesus calls his first disciples—Simon, Andrew, James, and John—who leave everything to follow him.

This week we are studying The Restoration of the Fulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our prophet decided that to celebrate the restoration of the gospel and the first vision given to Joseph smith, instead of building a monument out of granite or stone, he would build one out of words. The monument of words the first presidency created is titled “The Restoration of the Fulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ: A Bicentennial Proclamation to the World.” It's a monument not just to the First Vision but also to everything Jesus Christ has done—and is still doing—since then. Children will learn these concepts:“God loves His children in every nation of the world.”The Restoration began with an answer to a question.Jesus Christ has restored His Church.“The heavens are open.”“Heavenly messengers came to instruct Joseph Smith”

When the harrowing force of darkness takes over your very being, would you heed its warning and fortify your faith? From what first appeared as an ominous warning sign on her patriarchal blessing, devoted stay-at-home mom, Meghan Blanc, recalls her bone-chilling encounter with a demonic spirit that took over her body in a state of oppression—a life-changing event she describes as an urgent wake-up call to strengthen her spiritual shield.Initially dismissing it as a sudden episode of physical illness, she soon realized there was nothing coincidental about the invasion, making the connection to the once-overlooked reading. If you witnessed an unmistakable sign from Heaven, would you share its meaning with the world?During two consecutive late-summer nights in 2019, Ilyan Lavanway—a former Air Force veteran, author, and dedicated family man—encountered ancient symbols appearing in the sky; an awe-inspiring sight that would forever impact his perception of the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. With a background marked by service and sacrifice, he knew he couldn't simply let go of the unique characters beaming through the clouds. Describing the glyphs as "carved by the finger of God," he sensed an urgent call to spread the word.Refusing to dismiss this phenomenon as chance, Ilyan turned his curiosity into a quest for deeper faith. He studied the ancient letters, sketched them in detail, and soon felt prompted to publish his findings. Now, he's committed to living what he calls a “temple-going lifestyle,” sharing how these divine signs and personal revelations fuel his testimony of Christ's imminent return.Ilyan's story is a remarkable journey of faith and revelation. Join us as we discover how even the most unexpected observations can ignite a renewed determination to gather the members of the Church, serve others wholeheartedly, and trust that when Heavenly Father speaks—even through the celestial realm—there's always a message worth heeding.*** Please SHARE Ilyan's story and help us spread hope and light to others. ***To WATCH this episode, visit: https://youtu.be/oh5EBD3psCY-----To CONTACT Ilyan, email him at: ilyanlavanway@gmail.comTo GET A COPY of Ilyan's books, visit: https://www.amazon.com/author/ilyanTo READ "Knowing The Godhead" by Jeffrey R. When our story veers off-script, how do we find a faith-filled purpose that transcends our expectations?Born with half a heart, 20-year-old musician Elder Logan Castleton entered his mission knowing his path would look different than most. Having undergone countless heart surgeries and struggles throughout his life, he was thrilled to be called as a proselyting missionary in Chicago. However, when his health took a turn, he found himself unable to continue in that role and was unsure about his future as a missionary. But rather than surrendering to discouragement, he focused on his faith, transforming his health challenges into a unique opportunity to share the Gospel through rap music. Now known as “The Rapping Missionary,” Elder Castleton intertwines his passion for music with his steadfast testimony, using the power of inspired melodies and honest storytelling to uplift others, testify of Christ's love, and show the world that even the most fragile heart can become an instrument of divine purpose.Elder Castleton's authentic reflections illuminate the truth that, even when your mission doesn't follow the script you'd planned, there's still purpose, growth, and genuine hope to turn things around for the better. His journey proves that God's love shows up in unexpected ways—and that the covenant path is always worth walking, no matter how unfamiliar the scenery.*** Please SHARE Elder Castleton's story and help us spread hope and light to others. ***To WATCH to this episode, visit: https://youtu.be/5SrLlLXPFAg-----To LISTEN to Elder Castleton's latest song "Light The World", visit: https://open.spotify.com/track/5osZ7DO4FUiZdioQA0zfb2?si=dbc232fb75b04ea8To LISTEN to Elder Castleton's first song "Notice", visit: https://open.spotify.com/track/3UlLwxxx5t5P8iMEVxbcB8?si=b94cb70af2b04785To LISTEN to the rest of Elder Castleton's discography. visit: https://rappingmissionary.org/listenTo WATCH Elder Castleton's videos, visit: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNg88wB7c4iGnH3jZvWATlgTo FOLLOW Elder Castleton on Instagram, visit: https://www.instagram.com/rappingmissionaryTo FOLLOW Elder Castleton on TikTok, visit: https://www.tiktok.com/@UCNg88wB7c4iGnH3jZvWATlg To FOLLOW Elder Castleton on Facebook, visit: https://www.facebook.com/rappingmissionary/-----Keep updated with us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/latter.day.lights/Follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/latterdaylightsAlso, if you have a faith-promoting or inspiring story, or know someone who does, please let us know by going to https://www.latterdaylights.com and reaching out to us.

"I would pride myself on having a simple testimony. I would always say that. It's simple. And it was, and it is, the gospel of Jesus Christ is so simple. And that's all that we're required to have, right? This faith and belief in Jesus Christ. I had that, but I really didn't have much more than that. So having to open my life up to answering these questions really, really made me dig into our faith and what I believe and answer some questions that I had that I put up on a shelf. I really had to start dusting off some questions and lean in on that. A lot of the stuff that you guys talk about on your podcast, with the history of our church and, polygamy and Joseph Smith and, all of the things that everyone has questions about or tries to poke holes in. I had all those same questions and I feel like if I wouldn't have opened myself up, to answering questions about my faith, I feel like I would still just be coasting. Like in that same pre-2020 era of my life where I was like it's simple. I just have a simple testimony." Christians don't look up to the heavens for wisdom. We look down into the Scriptures. What do the Scriptures say about the sun, moon, and stars? What does the fourth day of creation tell us about them? How about Psalm 19, the book of Job, and Jonah? Plus, there's Josephus' input, and we'll consider what the founder of the Institute for Creation Research said about the zodiac. We have lots to talk about! This program originally aired December 17, 2022.
For President Jeffrey R. Holland, acting president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, the past year has been perhaps the most challenging of his life. President Holland, 83, faced an extended illness; spoke at the funeral of his predecessor, President M. Russell Ballard; and dealt with the passing of his wife of 60 years, Sister Patricia Terry Holland. Speaking during the April 2024 general conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, President Holland said he felt he had received “an admonition to return to my ministry with more urgency, more consecration, more focus on the Savior, more faith in His word.” In this special episode of the Church News podcast, President Holland and guest host Sheri Dew, executive vice president of Deseret Management Corp. and a former member of the Relief Society general presidency, discuss how the gospel can help provide comfort in trials and bring joy in triumphs. The Church News Podcast is a weekly podcast that invites listeners to make a journey of connection with members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints across the globe. Host Jon Ryan Jensen, editor of The Church News, shares a unique view of the stories, events, and people who form this international faith. With each episode, listeners are asked to embark on a journey to learn from one another and ponder, “What do I know now?” because of the experience. Produced by KellieAnn Halvorsen.
