What if the struggle that nearly broke you was the path God used to bring you back to His light?Aussie mom and former maximum-security corrections officer, Jac Woodhouse, hit rock bottom in a myriad of ways—dehumanizing workplace misogyny, parting from a 15-year career, navigating her son's serious health challenges, and fighting her own battle with suicidal ideation. It felt as though one more misstep would've broken the camel's back, until one tender mercy flipped everything around for the better. In this week's episode of Latter-Day Lights, Jac walks Scott and Alisha through the quiet signs the Lord placed in her life that eventually set her on the covenant path. What started out as an encounter with a Plan of Salvation pamphlet on her son's nightstand turned into a beautiful chain reaction—Church with neighbors turned into missionary lessons, which turned into a family baptism. Now, she and her husband serve weekly at the Sydney Australia Temple and in their ward, choosing faith over fear each day.If Jac's journey resonates with you, let it be a reminder that God is in the details and the mundane. So the next time life feels heavy, look for a small sign and move toward it. Often, that's enough.*** Please SHARE Jac's story and help us spread hope and light to others. ***To WATCH this episode on YouTube, visit: https://youtu.be/Z7eowq3MK68-----To READ Jac's media interview on News AU, visit: https://www.news.com.au/finance/work/at-work/former-prison-guard-lifts-lid-on-life-inside-goulburns-notorious-supermax/news-story/3357e33af12015fa58f40391490fccddTo READ Jac's media interview on ABC AU, visit: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-02-06/nsw-corrective-services-toxic-boys-club-culture/11934444?utm_source=abc_news_app&utm_medium=content_shared&utm_campaign=abc_news_app&utm_content=linkTo READ Scott's new book “Faith to Stay” for free, visit: https://www.faithtostay.com/-----Keep updated with us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/latter.day.lights/Follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/latterdaylightsAlso, if you have a faith-promoting or inspiring story, or know someone who does, please let us know by going to https://www.latterdaylights.com and reaching out to us.

How far can mercy reach when a decades-long double life finally unravels, shaking a ward's trust and a family's heart? This week on Latter-day Lights, Scott and Alisha welcome back Martin Onken for Part Two of his story—the hope-filled conclusion to his twelve-year journey of repentance. In part one, Martin opened up about a lonely, complicated childhood that left him hungry for love and belonging. Leaning on his relationship with God to seek out the acceptance he was lacking, he found purpose in the Church and eventually served as a bishop. In time, however, he began living a double life, entering a 30-year extramarital affair that ultimately came to light, and led to a heartbreaking disciplinary council and excommunication. In part two, Martin shares hard-won practices that rebuilt his soul: Consistently showing up to support groups and recovery programs, listening to those who saw him past his wrongdoings, retaking missionary lessons, and reflecting on temple grounds. He shares what it was like to tell his children the truth, navigate the difficult decision to separate from his wife, find love again after heartbreak, and rebuild his trust with family, all the while patiently seeking permission to officially return to the Church. Each of these steps nudged Martin closer to approval for rebaptism, and revealed that Heavenly Father was guiding the process all along.By the end of this episode, you'll feel steadier about walking your own path back to God no matter how far off you've strayed. Expect practical tools, compassionate perspectives, and a renewed witness that no one is too far gone for the Savior's relentless mercy.*** Please SHARE Martin's story and help us spread hope and light to others. ***To WATCH this episode on YouTube, visit: https://youtu.be/7K4-ZboOnZQ-----To WATCH part one of Martin's story, visit: https://youtu.be/8IvvCcAoGWcTo READ Scott's new book “Faith to Stay” for free, visit: https://www.faithtostay.com/-----Keep updated with us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/latter.day.lights/Follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/latterdaylightsAlso, if you have a faith-promoting or inspiring story, or know someone who does, please let us know by going to https://www.latterdaylights.com and reaching out to us.

Jonathan Edwards, in the eyes of many in the Christian faith, remains the greatest theologian America ever produced. Unfortunately, many tie Edwards to a particular sermon he preached in Enfield, CT, in 1741 and to this day label him as a "hellfire and brimstone preacher" only. This is vastly untrue. This episode of 2Days Denarius takes a look at the conversion of Jonathan Edwards in his own words, along with a few quotes to help demonstrate Edwards's ability to preach on or address the full counsel of God in thorough fashion. This episode is gospel oriented and encourages Christians to focus highly on our Lord and Savior daily in their walk of faith. Quote regarding the conversion of Jonathan Edwards comes from the excellent book:"The Essential Jonathan Edwards" by Owen Strachan, Douglas Allen Sweeney & John Piper. An episode from Seneca Bible Baptist Church, a conservative, independent body of King James Bible believers located in Seneca Falls, New York. We believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testament to be the verbally and plenary inspired Word of God. The Scriptures are inerrant, infallible and God breathed, and therefore are the final authority for faith and life. The sixty-six books of the Old and New Testament are the complete and divine revelation of God to Man. The Scriptures shall be interpreted according to their normal grammatical historical meaning. The King James Version of the Bible shall be the official and only translation used by the church (2 Tim. 3:16-17). We believe in one Triune God, eternally existing in three persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—each coeternal in being, co-identical in nature, coequal in power and glory, and having the same attributes and perfections (Deut. 6:4). We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, became man, without ceasing to be God, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary, in order that He might reveal God and redeem sinful men (Phil. 2:58). We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ accomplished our redemption through his death on the cross as a representative, vicarious, substitutionary sacrifice; and, that our justification is made sure by His literal, physical resurrection from the dead (1 Peter 1:35). We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ ascended to Heaven, and is now exalted at the right hand of God, where, as our High Priest, He fulfills the ministry of Representative, Intercessor, and Advocate (Acts 1:910). We believe that salvation is the gift of God brought to man by grace and received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, whose precious blood was shed on Calvary for the forgiveness of our sins 1 Pet. 1:1819). A message from Seneca Bible Baptist Church: “We would love to have you visit! “If you are looking for a church in the Seneca Falls, New York area that preaches the Truth from God's Word, reach out to us at any time. What creativity sparks within when one faith-led author blends scripture, sci-fi, and service to inspire a community? This week on Latter-day Lights, Scott and Alisha welcome back M.D. (Michael) House—novelist and president of LDSPMA—to walk us through his unlikely path from corporate finance to an anthology of stories that intentionally spread the light of the Gospel.Michael shares eye-opening insight into all the best pieces of advice from various books and talks that inspired his writing: Why the Book of Mormon is the best book on leadership, how men and women can unlock the full power of priesthood, how to navigate the relationship between faith and AI, and how the LDS community can decipher its more helpful uses from harmful ones. CLICK HERE FOR 2025 RETREATLive Unashamed of the Gospel of Jesus ChristRomans 1:16-17 “ For I am not ashamed of the gospel; it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who has faith, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed through faith for faith; as it is written, “The one who is righteous will live by faith.”I first read this verse in the Passion Translation this morning, and it says, “I refuse to be ashamed of the wonderful message of God's liberating power unleashed in us through Christ! For I am thrilled to preach that everyone who believes is saved – the Jew first, and then people everywhere! The gospel unveils a continual revelation of God's righteousness – a perfect righteousness given to us when we believe. And it moves us from receiving life through faith to the power of living by faith. This is what the scripture means when it says: "We are right with God through life-giving faith!”I love how these verses emphasize that God's power is for everyone who believes. The message we are tasked with spreading is not just for the Jewish people, or any group of people. It is for anyone who believes. This is important to remember because at times we can get very selective about who we do and do not give the message too. Sometimes we can avoid sharing the message with some people because they may not fit our idea of what a Christian should be. We might look at them and immediately judge them by what they look like or how they are dressed. We were tasked with bringing the message to every single person in all corners of the earth. It is not up to us to decide who is worthy or not worthy of hearing the word. We never know who needs to hear the Gospel.I recall a story about a group of people in Ireland who were learning to use the evangelization tool called 'Jesus Knocking'. They were taught how to use it, and then they were sent out on the streets to knock on doors and begin telling people about Jesus. These two men, who were particularly shy, knocked on this one guy's door. When the man answered, they could see he was a biker, part of a gang, and he looked kinda scary. The first thing he did was tell them they had to come inside because he couldn't be seen. He had a warrant out for his arrest. They were very nervous to go inside this guy's house, but they did. They were certain that he would not want to hear what they had to say, but they asked him anyway. He said, “Sure, I will listen.” Then, when they got to the part where they asked if he wanted to have a personal encounter with Jesus, he said yes. They were so surprised. It turns out he was very nice and that Jesus was just what he needed in his life. Once he turned his life over to Jesus, everything changed for him. A few weeks later, he happened to be in a car with fellow gang members when the car got stopped. He thought about lying about who he was so that he didn't get arrested because he still had a warrant out for his arrest. Although now that he had found Jesus, he knew he couldn't lie. When they asked what his name was, he told them. They looked him up in the system and said he was free to go. He has no idea what happened to the warrant, but he was so grateful to God for saving him.The verse also says, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel; it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who has faith.” I love to think about the power of God that we have living inside of us. However, this reminds us that the Gospel is also the power of God. I think we forget how powerful the Gospel can be. I think we can take it for granted sometimes and forget that not everyone knows how great God is. Not everyone has heard that Jesus died on the cross for their sins. Jesus loved them so much they he took every bad thing they ever did and will ever do to the cross with Him.The amazing thing about the Gospel is that even if people have heard it before, they may hear it again, and it hits them in a different way. Maybe something they have gone through in their life has prepared them to hear it differently this time. Maybe life has been rough, and the idea that Jesus loves them and would do anything for them is exactly what they needed to hear that day. Being Catholic, we get to hear the Gospel every Sunday at Mass. The Gospel is not something new to us, and if we are honest, probably not always exciting. We can let it become mundane and ordinary if we are not careful, because we do have ready access to it, and we do hear it all the time at Mass. However, we must never forget the power of the Gospel. When the apostles first started bringing the Gospel to all parts of the world, people were hungry for it. They were baptizing several people everywhere they went. The world is just as hungry for it today. We just don't think to spread it because we live in a culture that seems to be open to everything except Christianity. Nowadays, we are afraid of talking about the Gospels and about Jesus because we don't want to offend someone, or we don't want to be attacked for our beliefs. The time when Jesus lived, the time after he died, when the apostles were spreading the Gospel around the world, it was not a friendly place for Christians either. I mean, we might get rejected, or maybe even yelled at for trying to share the Gospel. However, the apostles were stoned to death or crucified for sharing the Gospel. Over the last 2000 years or so, there have been times when it was dangerous for your life to share the gospel. It still is in some countries.I remember when I lived in England, we went to visit a historic house, and when we took the tour, they showed us the hidden hole in the wall where the Catholic priest would hide if the police came to search the house. In 1559, it became illegal in the United Kingdom to practice mass. It did not become legal again until 1791.We might not live in a particularly friendly culture when it comes to sharing the Gospel, and yet, if the apostles can do it at the risk of being stoned to death, surely we can do it with the risk of rejection? There are people still in this day and age who are risking their lives to bring the Gospel to people in countries that do not allow freedom of religion. I don't think we are all called to do that. I do believe we are all called to be an example of the Gospel to all those we meet.We are all called to live our lives as an example of Christ and His love for us. We are meant to live out the Gospel in our day-to-day lives. You know all those parables found in the Gospels, those are to show us how to live our lives so that others will see how we live, what we have, and they will want it. I don't mean what we have, as in possessions, I mean what we have, as in the love of God, the peace of Christ, and the power of the Holy Spirit. How are we doing with this? Are we being brave? Are we asking the Lord for a Holy Boldness so we can live our lives unashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ? You all know how much I love a good song. I have had the chorus of a song going through my head this whole time, and yet I couldn't quite make out the words. Has that ever happened to you? You know a song, and yet you can't think of it when you want to. Well, writing that last sentence in that last paragraph finally jogged my memory. The song is called Unashamed, and it is by Matthew West.  I know we are a bit on the longer side today, but I really want you to hear the lyrics.Three brothers in a fireWilling to die for their faithBut You were with them in the fireAnd they walked out the next dayAnd Daniel met a lionBecause he chose to prayBut You shut the mouth of that lionAnd he walked out the next day[Pre-Chorus]So what's gonna be said of me when it's all said and done? Will I stand for my beliefs or will I turn around and run?Well, let the whole world hear me say[Chorus]I'm unashamedOf the gospel of Jesus ChristAnd the truth that changed my lifeFor the name above all namesI'm unashamedAnd I will live my faith out loudTake a stand and stand my groundFor the One who took my shameI'm unashamed[Verse 2]I don't answer to the crowdI answer to a kingSo the louder they shoutOh, the louder I sing, yeah[Pre-Chorus]So what's gonna be said of me when it's all said and done? Will I stand for my beliefs or will I turn around and run?Well, let the whole world hear me say[Chorus]I'm unashamedOf the gospel of Jesus ChristAnd the truth that changed my lifeFor the name above all namesI'm unashamedAnd I will live my faith out loudTake a stand and stand my groundFor the One who took my shameI'm unashamed [Bridge]At the name of JesusEvery knee will bowAnd every tongue confessSo let it start right nowBefore you come back, LordBefore the rocks cry outI will lift my praiseLet it start right now [Chorus]I'm unashamedOf the gospel of Jesus ChristAnd the truth that changed my lifeFor the name above all namesI'm unashamed, yeahAnd I will live my faith out loudTake a stand and stand my groundFor the One who took my shameI'm unashamed(I'm unashamed)Oh, I'm unashamed (I'm unashamed)I want the world to hear me sayI'm unashamed(I'm unashamed)Oh, I'm unashamedFor the One who took my shameI'm unashamed [Outro]Lord, I will stand for YouI tell the world about YouI'm unashamedDear Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless all of those who are listening to this episode. What if the life you dreamed of for yourself never showed up—because God used it to write an even better story? This week on Latter-Day Lights, life coach and host of “The Single LDS Woman Podcast,” Sharon Lamar, opens up about spending 30 years of her life as a single Latter-Day Saint before marrying at 52. With humor, candor, and resilient faith, Sharon unpacks the quiet heartache of unmet expectations, the societal pressures we inherit from romcoms to fairytales, and the backhanded statements from friends and acquaintances that can silently erode our worth.Scott and Alisha join her in exploring how to rewrite that script—seeing singleness merely as an identifier, and not a verdict of one's worth; turning marriage from the main course into the cherry on top; and partnering with Heavenly Father to create a full, abundant life by allowing Him to become a collaborator in your journey. Along the way, Sharon shares the pivotal lessons that helped her trade confusion for clarity, how “nothing has gone wrong” became her new mantra, and how love remains the ultimate answer to all obstacles. If you've ever wondered whether your path still counts when it doesn't match the picture you grew up with, Sharon's journey will help you see that you're not behind, you're not broken, and you're exactly where you're meant to be.*** Please SHARE Sharon's story and help us spread hope and light to others. ***To WATCH this episode on YouTube, visit: https://youtu.be/Qbjalk-Ue9c-----To BOOK a session with Sharon, visit: https://www.sharonlamarcoaching.com/To GET Sharon's "Summer Rewind Playlist," visit: https://www.sharonlamarcoaching.com/insiderTo LISTEN to Sharon's podcast, "The Single LDS Woman," visit: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-single-christian-woman-faith-and/id1712937838To READ Scott's book “Faith to Stay,” visit: https://www.faithtostay.com/-----Keep updated with us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/latter.day.lights/Follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/latterdaylightsAlso, if you have a faith-promoting or inspiring story, or know someone who does, please let us know by going to https://www.latterdaylights.com and reaching out to us.

What if the perfect once-in-a-lifetime opportunity ended up being the one God meant for you to turn down? This week on Latter-day Lights, Scott and John Brandley sit down with animator Pablo Smith to share the story of how he combined his two greatest passions in life: teaching the gospel, and animation. Having worked at legendary studios in the industry such as Nick Jr., Disney, and Dreamworks, Pablo took his skills into his own hands by independently crafting his most cherished and personal piece of work, “The Book of Mormon Graphic Novel.”After walking away from a full-ride offer at his dream school—CalArts—to serve in the France Marseille mission on his own accord, Pablo took a risk nobody would dare to. But after numerous rejections and near-misses from several potential opportunities upon returning, Pablo walks us through how he finally got his first big break working in animation, to now channeling his talent into a doorway to the scriptures. With this project, he helps all kinds of visual learners and readers encounter the Gospel in a format they can truly grasp, leading families toward Christ one panel at a time. What unfolds when faith-driven creators stop flying solo, and start building together? This week on Latter-day Lights, Scott Brandley and co-host Larry Johnson sit down with publishing veteran Steve Piersanti—founder and CEO of Berrett-Koehler Publishers, and the driving force behind LDSPMA (Latter-day Saints in Publishing, Media & the Arts). Together, they retrace Steve's path to success; from launching BYU's Century Two journal, to rallying 45 volunteers in 2015, and growing that circle into 2,800 members united by one mission: to spread light and truth through books, film, podcasts, music, and more. They break down the process of building a volunteer-run nonprofit—from the early challenges, to launching pitching sessions, deep-dive workshops, and Praiseworthy/Spark awards—all the while emphasizing the faith-based community that keeps LDS creators and entrepreneurs coming back every time. Scott even throws in the serendipitous conversation that inspired Latter-Day Lights itself—and why showing up in media spaces matters just as much as showing up at Church. If you have a talent that's waiting to be seen, this conversation may be the nudge you need to step forward, link up, and create something that makes the world a better place. When a father's greatest nightmare strikes his family not once but twice, can Heaven still find a way to spark hope?Idaho rancher, husband, and devoted father Eldon Buchanan returns to Latter-day Lights to share the sacred tender mercies that steadied him after losing his son to suicide: Feeling the invisible strength of his son hoisting boulders for his memorial, a climb up Mount Borah where the Northern Lights felt like an embrace from Heaven, and a New Year's graveside visit where impossibly perfect snowflakes drifted down on him, as though signed by his boys' own hands. In this raw retelling, Eldon shows how the Savior's love reaches through depression's deepest shadows with quiet, unmistakable reminders: You are seen, and no child slips from His grasp. If you—or someone you love—are wrestling with grief or suicidal despair, Eldon's witness offers heartfelt advice and uplifting reasons to keep going: Even shattered hearts can experience miracles, and sorrow can be transformed into an unshakable testimony—that Christ never leaves His wounded ones alone.*** Please SHARE Eldon's story and help us spread hope and light to others. ***To WATCH this episode, visit: https://youtu.be/9IqH01jFAZc-----To WATCH Eldon's first episode on Latter-Day Lights, visit: https://youtu.be/3phtG9B-2GkTo WATCH Eldon's second episode on Latter-Day Lights, visit: https://youtu.be/aSJ6p0aDI00-----Keep updated with us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/latter.day.lights/Follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/latterdaylightsAlso, if you have a faith-promoting or inspiring story, or know someone who does, please let us know by going to https://www.latterdaylights.com and reaching out to us.

When pillars of certainty crumble, is it possible to rebuild something even stronger in their place? When two trusted ward members announced they were leaving the Church, newly called bishop Scott Brandley was rocked to the core. Overnight, the man called to strengthen spirituality in others found himself wrestling with his own doubts, spiralling into a crisis of faith, and stripping his testimony down to five essential questions around God, Joseph Smith, and The Book of Mormon. In this special milestone episode of Latter-day Lights, the tables turn as beloved host Scott steps into the guest chair. With candor and humility, he shares the origins of how prayer-filled walks, sleepless study sessions, and Heaven-sent impressions rebuilt his faith while igniting two unexpected missions along the way: launching this very podcast, "Latter-Day Lights," and penning his new upcoming book, “Faith to Stay.”From shepherding a ward through turbulent times, to teaming up with co-host and good friend Alisha Coakley to invite growth, instill faith, and inspire others, Scott's journey is proof that God can use cracked foundations to plant pillars of testimony. It reminds us all that even in our most fragile moments, He is plotting our legacy behind the scenes.*** Please SHARE Scott's story and help us spread hope and light to others. ***To WATCH this episode, visit: https://youtu.be/wJUm-dyO7tk-----To WATCH our Marcovia Project episode, visit: https://youtu.be/E1zdsd9vLhMTo DONATE to The Marcovia Project, visit: https://themarcoviaproject.org/-----Keep updated with us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/latter.day.lights/Follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/latterdaylightsAlso, if you have a faith-promoting or inspiring story, or know someone who does, please let us know by going to https://www.latterdaylights.com and reaching out to us.

When years of crippling addiction tighten its grip, can a sliver of lasting change still exist? For carpenter, devoted husband, and former addict Orlando Mora, the path out of darkness was illuminated not just through sobriety and faith, but by a heaven-sent “gift of dreams.” From his first prayer of desperation to the day he opened the door to two unexpected missionaries, Orlando discovered that God's guidance comes in many forms—sometimes through gentle impressions of the Spirit, and sometimes through vivid dreams that bring clarity, comfort, and renewed purpose. In this uplifting episode of Latter-day Lights, Orlando recounts the power of divine intervention that guided him from a dark “basement” of hopelessness to the bright promise of a new beginning. From his first steps into a detox center, to the moment he felt Christ's arms around him at the Mesa Arizona Temple, Orlando's story testifies that no one is beyond the reach of God's grace. Even in our deepest struggles, we can find ourselves led by the hand of a loving Savior who has never once left our side.Orlando's journey brings hope to anyone seeking to turn their life around. Tune in to discover how, even in the quiet corners of the night, the Lord can reach our hearts, rewrite our stories, and remind each of us that we are never truly alone.*** Please SHARE Orlando's story and help us spread hope and light to others. ***To WATCH this episode, visit: https://youtu.be/BH8vk9WqE1g -----Keep updated with us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/latter.day.lights/Follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/latterdaylightsAlso, if you have a faith-promoting or inspiring story, or know someone who does, please let us know by going to https://www.latterdaylights.com and reaching out to us.
