These verses introduce the forerunner of the Lord, John the baptist. These verses start off with two O.T. quotes. The first from Malachi chapter 3 verse 1 and the next from Isaiah 40 verse 3. These state that the Lord will have a messenger who would go before Him to announce His coming to the people of Israel.
