What creativity sparks within when one faith-led author blends scripture, sci-fi, and service to inspire a community? This week on Latter-day Lights, Scott and Alisha welcome back M.D. (Michael) House—novelist and president of LDSPMA—to walk us through his unlikely path from corporate finance to an anthology of stories that intentionally spread the light of the Gospel.Michael shares eye-opening insight into all the best pieces of advice from various books and talks that inspired his writing: Why the Book of Mormon is the best book on leadership, how men and women can unlock the full power of priesthood, how to navigate the relationship between faith and AI, and how the LDS community can decipher its more helpful uses from harmful ones. At the heart of it all, Michael emphasizes how these themes converge in the mission of LDSPMA—equipping faith-driven creators to learn, collaborate, and share light—and how you can participate in the next conference.By the end, we guarantee you'll feel steadier about building the next big thing the Savior is nudging you to create. Walk away inspired, equipped, and ready to act on those promptings.*** Please SHARE Michael's story and help us spread hope and light to others. ***To WATCH this episode on YouTube, visit: https://youtu.be/kG5hAA35fjI-----To READ Michael's books, visit: https://www.mdhouselive.com/To LEARN MORE about LDSPMA (keynotes, conferences, workshops, etc.) visit: https://ldspma.org/To READ Elder Gong's talk, “Faith, Ethics, and Human Dignity in an Age of Artificial Intelligence,” visit: https://newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/faith--ethics--and-human-dignity-in-an-age-of-artificial-intelligence--a-call-to-actionTo READ “Invincible Family” by Kimberly Ells, visit: https://a.co/d/fxaX4ztTo LISTEN to Scott & Alisha's guesting on the LDSPMA Podcast, "Called to Create," visit: https://www.buzzsprout.com/1696705/episodes/17374653To READ Scott's book “Faith to Stay,” visit: https://www.faithtostay.com/-----Keep updated with us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/latter.day.lights/Follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/latterdaylightsAlso, if you have a faith-promoting or inspiring story, or know someone who does, please let us know by going to https://www.latterdaylights.com and reaching out to us.
CLICK HERE FOR 2025 RETREATLive Unashamed of the Gospel of Jesus ChristRomans 1:16-17 “ For I am not ashamed of the gospel; it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who has faith, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed through faith for faith; as it is written, “The one who is righteous will live by faith.”I first read this verse in the Passion Translation this morning, and it says, “I refuse to be ashamed of the wonderful message of God's liberating power unleashed in us through Christ! For I am thrilled to preach that everyone who believes is saved – the Jew first, and then people everywhere! The gospel unveils a continual revelation of God's righteousness – a perfect righteousness given to us when we believe. And it moves us from receiving life through faith to the power of living by faith. This is what the scripture means when it says: "We are right with God through life-giving faith!”I love how these verses emphasize that God's power is for everyone who believes. The message we are tasked with spreading is not just for the Jewish people, or any group of people. It is for anyone who believes. This is important to remember because at times we can get very selective about who we do and do not give the message too. Sometimes we can avoid sharing the message with some people because they may not fit our idea of what a Christian should be. We might look at them and immediately judge them by what they look like or how they are dressed. We were tasked with bringing the message to every single person in all corners of the earth. It is not up to us to decide who is worthy or not worthy of hearing the word. We never know who needs to hear the Gospel.I recall a story about a group of people in Ireland who were learning to use the evangelization tool called 'Jesus Knocking'. They were taught how to use it, and then they were sent out on the streets to knock on doors and begin telling people about Jesus. These two men, who were particularly shy, knocked on this one guy's door. When the man answered, they could see he was a biker, part of a gang, and he looked kinda scary. The first thing he did was tell them they had to come inside because he couldn't be seen. He had a warrant out for his arrest. They were very nervous to go inside this guy's house, but they did. They were certain that he would not want to hear what they had to say, but they asked him anyway. He said, “Sure, I will listen.” Then, when they got to the part where they asked if he wanted to have a personal encounter with Jesus, he said yes. They were so surprised. It turns out he was very nice and that Jesus was just what he needed in his life. Once he turned his life over to Jesus, everything changed for him. A few weeks later, he happened to be in a car with fellow gang members when the car got stopped. He thought about lying about who he was so that he didn't get arrested because he still had a warrant out for his arrest. Although now that he had found Jesus, he knew he couldn't lie. When they asked what his name was, he told them. They looked him up in the system and said he was free to go. He has no idea what happened to the warrant, but he was so grateful to God for saving him.The verse also says, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel; it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who has faith.” I love to think about the power of God that we have living inside of us. However, this reminds us that the Gospel is also the power of God. I think we forget how powerful the Gospel can be. I think we can take it for granted sometimes and forget that not everyone knows how great God is. Not everyone has heard that Jesus died on the cross for their sins. Jesus loved them so much they he took every bad thing they ever did and will ever do to the cross with Him.The amazing thing about the Gospel is that even if people have heard it before, they may hear it again, and it hits them in a different way. Maybe something they have gone through in their life has prepared them to hear it differently this time. Maybe life has been rough, and the idea that Jesus loves them and would do anything for them is exactly what they needed to hear that day. Being Catholic, we get to hear the Gospel every Sunday at Mass. The Gospel is not something new to us, and if we are honest, probably not always exciting. We can let it become mundane and ordinary if we are not careful, because we do have ready access to it, and we do hear it all the time at Mass. However, we must never forget the power of the Gospel. When the apostles first started bringing the Gospel to all parts of the world, people were hungry for it. They were baptizing several people everywhere they went. The world is just as hungry for it today. We just don't think to spread it because we live in a culture that seems to be open to everything except Christianity. Nowadays, we are afraid of talking about the Gospels and about Jesus because we don't want to offend someone, or we don't want to be attacked for our beliefs. The time when Jesus lived, the time after he died, when the apostles were spreading the Gospel around the world, it was not a friendly place for Christians either. I mean, we might get rejected, or maybe even yelled at for trying to share the Gospel. However, the apostles were stoned to death or crucified for sharing the Gospel. Over the last 2000 years or so, there have been times when it was dangerous for your life to share the gospel. It still is in some countries.I remember when I lived in England, we went to visit a historic house, and when we took the tour, they showed us the hidden hole in the wall where the Catholic priest would hide if the police came to search the house. In 1559, it became illegal in the United Kingdom to practice mass. It did not become legal again until 1791.We might not live in a particularly friendly culture when it comes to sharing the Gospel, and yet, if the apostles can do it at the risk of being stoned to death, surely we can do it with the risk of rejection? There are people still in this day and age who are risking their lives to bring the Gospel to people in countries that do not allow freedom of religion. I don't think we are all called to do that. I do believe we are all called to be an example of the Gospel to all those we meet.We are all called to live our lives as an example of Christ and His love for us. We are meant to live out the Gospel in our day-to-day lives. You know all those parables found in the Gospels, those are to show us how to live our lives so that others will see how we live, what we have, and they will want it. I don't mean what we have, as in possessions, I mean what we have, as in the love of God, the peace of Christ, and the power of the Holy Spirit. How are we doing with this? Are we being brave? Are we asking the Lord for a Holy Boldness so we can live our lives unashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ? You all know how much I love a good song. I have had the chorus of a song going through my head this whole time, and yet I couldn't quite make out the words. Has that ever happened to you? You know a song, and yet you can't think of it when you want to. Well, writing that last sentence in that last paragraph finally jogged my memory. The song is called Unashamed, and it is by Matthew West. I know we are a bit on the longer side today, but I really want you to hear the lyrics.Three brothers in a fireWilling to die for their faithBut You were with them in the fireAnd they walked out the next dayAnd Daniel met a lionBecause he chose to prayBut You shut the mouth of that lionAnd he walked out the next day[Pre-Chorus]So what's gonna be said of me when it's all said and done? Will I stand for my beliefs or will I turn around and run?Well, let the whole world hear me say[Chorus]I'm unashamedOf the gospel of Jesus ChristAnd the truth that changed my lifeFor the name above all namesI'm unashamedAnd I will live my faith out loudTake a stand and stand my groundFor the One who took my shameI'm unashamed[Verse 2]I don't answer to the crowdI answer to a kingSo the louder they shoutOh, the louder I sing, yeah[Pre-Chorus]So what's gonna be said of me when it's all said and done? Will I stand for my beliefs or will I turn around and run?Well, let the whole world hear me say[Chorus]I'm unashamedOf the gospel of Jesus ChristAnd the truth that changed my lifeFor the name above all namesI'm unashamedAnd I will live my faith out loudTake a stand and stand my groundFor the One who took my shameI'm unashamed [Bridge]At the name of JesusEvery knee will bowAnd every tongue confessSo let it start right nowBefore you come back, LordBefore the rocks cry outI will lift my praiseLet it start right now [Chorus]I'm unashamedOf the gospel of Jesus ChristAnd the truth that changed my lifeFor the name above all namesI'm unashamed, yeahAnd I will live my faith out loudTake a stand and stand my groundFor the One who took my shameI'm unashamed(I'm unashamed)Oh, I'm unashamed (I'm unashamed)I want the world to hear me sayI'm unashamed(I'm unashamed)Oh, I'm unashamedFor the One who took my shameI'm unashamed [Outro]Lord, I will stand for YouI tell the world about YouI'm unashamedDear Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless all of those who are listening to this episode. Lord, you are amazing, and we are so grateful to you for all you have given us. We are grateful for the Gospel. Help us to be bold and to live out the Gospel in our lives. Help us to share the Gospel with all we meet. Please help us to be unashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ! Let it be said of us one day that we lived as an example of Jesus to all those we met. We love you, Lord, and we ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus's holy name. Amen!Thank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus. What if the life you dreamed of for yourself never showed up—because God used it to write an even better story? This week on Latter-Day Lights, life coach and host of “The Single LDS Woman Podcast,” Sharon Lamar, opens up about spending 30 years of her life as a single Latter-Day Saint before marrying at 52. With humor, candor, and resilient faith, Sharon unpacks the quiet heartache of unmet expectations, the societal pressures we inherit from romcoms to fairytales, and the backhanded statements from friends and acquaintances that can silently erode our worth.Scott and Alisha join her in exploring how to rewrite that script—seeing singleness merely as an identifier, and not a verdict of one's worth; turning marriage from the main course into the cherry on top; and partnering with Heavenly Father to create a full, abundant life by allowing Him to become a collaborator in your journey. Along the way, Sharon shares the pivotal lessons that helped her trade confusion for clarity, how “nothing has gone wrong” became her new mantra, and how love remains the ultimate answer to all obstacles. If you've ever wondered whether your path still counts when it doesn't match the picture you grew up with, Sharon's journey will help you see that you're not behind, you're not broken, and you're exactly where you're meant to be.*** Please SHARE Sharon's story and help us spread hope and light to others. ***To WATCH this episode on YouTube, visit: https://youtu.be/Qbjalk-Ue9c-----To BOOK a session with Sharon, visit: https://www.sharonlamarcoaching.com/To GET Sharon's "Summer Rewind Playlist," visit: https://www.sharonlamarcoaching.com/insiderTo LISTEN to Sharon's podcast, "The Single LDS Woman," visit: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-single-christian-woman-faith-and/id1712937838To READ Scott's book “Faith to Stay,” visit: https://www.faithtostay.com/-----Keep updated with us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/latter.day.lights/Follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/latterdaylightsAlso, if you have a faith-promoting or inspiring story, or know someone who does, please let us know by going to https://www.latterdaylights.com and reaching out to us.

What if the perfect once-in-a-lifetime opportunity ended up being the one God meant for you to turn down? This week on Latter-day Lights, Scott and John Brandley sit down with animator Pablo Smith to share the story of how he combined his two greatest passions in life: teaching the gospel, and animation. Having worked at legendary studios in the industry such as Nick Jr., Disney, and Dreamworks, Pablo took his skills into his own hands by independently crafting his most cherished and personal piece of work, “The Book of Mormon Graphic Novel.”After walking away from a full-ride offer at his dream school—CalArts—to serve in the France Marseille mission on his own accord, Pablo took a risk nobody would dare to. But after numerous rejections and near-misses from several potential opportunities upon returning, Pablo walks us through how he finally got his first big break working in animation, to now channeling his talent into a doorway to the scriptures. With this project, he helps all kinds of visual learners and readers encounter the Gospel in a format they can truly grasp, leading families toward Christ one panel at a time. What unfolds when faith-driven creators stop flying solo, and start building together? This week on Latter-day Lights, Scott Brandley and co-host Larry Johnson sit down with publishing veteran Steve Piersanti—founder and CEO of Berrett-Koehler Publishers, and the driving force behind LDSPMA (Latter-day Saints in Publishing, Media & the Arts). Together, they retrace Steve's path to success; from launching BYU's Century Two journal, to rallying 45 volunteers in 2015, and growing that circle into 2,800 members united by one mission: to spread light and truth through books, film, podcasts, music, and more. They break down the process of building a volunteer-run nonprofit—from the early challenges, to launching pitching sessions, deep-dive workshops, and Praiseworthy/Spark awards—all the while emphasizing the faith-based community that keeps LDS creators and entrepreneurs coming back every time. Scott even throws in the serendipitous conversation that inspired Latter-Day Lights itself—and why showing up in media spaces matters just as much as showing up at Church. If you have a talent that's waiting to be seen, this conversation may be the nudge you need to step forward, link up, and create something that makes the world a better place. As a direct descendant of Hyrum Smith, Joe unveils how near-death and a second chance at life became the spark that led him to safeguard his ancestor's relics—from Alvin's toolbox that once cradled the gold plates, to Hyrum's bullet-scarred pocket watch, and even Civil War rifles used at Carthage. Now an author of devotional books drawn from decades of faith-driven experiences, Joe weaves God's calling, family heirlooms, and profound revelations into a testimony that proves the Lord can preserve hearts and history all at once.Tune in to Joe's story to discover how tangible relics and personal miracles intertwine, leaving you with fresh resolve to trace, treasure, and testify to the sacred narratives in your own family for generations to come.*** Please SHARE Joe's story and help us spread hope and light to others. ***To WATCH this episode, visit: https://youtu.be/7QAIlCNLGNs-----To READ Joe's first book, "Testimony: How to Find Peace and Strength in a Troubled World," visit: https://a.co/d/eFVf4j9To READ Joe's second book, "Today's Thought: For Missionaries and Families," visit: https://a.co/d/hIMCcocTo READ Joe's third book, "Affirmation: Stories and Artifacts of Joseph, Hyrum, and The Smith Family" (use code AFFIRM20 for 20% off,) visit: https://www.ssstechnologies.net/store/AFFIRMATION-Stories-and-Artifacts-of-Joseph-Hyrum-and-the-Smith-Family-p670324639To READ Scott's book “Faith to Stay,” visit: https://www.faithtostay.com/-----Keep updated with us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/latter.day.lights/Follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/latterdaylightsAlso, if you have a faith-promoting or inspiring story, or know someone who does, please let us know by going to https://www.latterdaylights.com and reaching out to us.
When decades of lies and betrayal suddenly unravel, can the atonement stitch a marriage back together? On today's episode of Latter-day Lights, we meet Heather and Cameron Berry—a couple whose world collapsed the instant one accidental photo exposed Cameron's hidden, 30-year pornography addiction. In a single breath, trust was gone, and a once-steady marriage felt like moments from ending.Yet, from inside the wreckage, a different kind of miracle began to form. Through individual healing, and applying the “belief breakthrough” technique, the Berry's traded silence for radical honesty. And in turn, witnessed Christ transform secrecy into sacred intimacy. The Berry's discovered that the atonement is more than a doctrine—it's a rescue mission; and that sexuality is far from weaponry—it's a crowning gift.If you've ever wondered whether betrayal is the end-all be-all of a love story, Cameron and Heather's journey shows how the Savior can write an even stronger chapter than the one that came before.*** Please SHARE Heather & Cameron's story and help us spread hope and light to others. ***To WATCH this episode, visit: https://youtu.be/v6A_Dev88a4-----To READ Heather & Cameron's workbook "Beyond Betrayal: A Healing Guide for Couples," visit: https://theshiftup.com/beyondbetrayalguideTo LISTEN to Heather & Cameron's podcast "The SHIFTup! This Devotional address with Alicia Willis was delivered on June 17th at 11:30 AM MST in the BYU-Idaho I-Center. In her address, Sister Willis draws from personal experiences with family scripture study and rich personal insights to show how faith, repentance, covenants, and the guidance of the Holy Ghost form a continuous, Christ-centered pattern for life. Through examples from ancient and modern prophets, she reminds us that this gospel pattern has been taught from Adam to today, and it's meant to guide our daily walk. Listen to Sister Willis's devotional address to explore how this pattern can bring strength, clarity, and connection to your own life.

When guilt feels heavier than hope, can forgiveness still rewrite our story?Episode 3 of our 5-part miniseries "Faith to Stay" tackles “Repentance & Forgiveness”—a burning topic in Latter-Day Lights host & founder Scott Brandley's new book about navigating life's fiercest spiritual storms. How are repentance and forgiveness interconnected, and how do we walk through them to achieve lasting peace? This Sunday, we welcome back prison therapist Kellen Winslow and excommunicated bishop Dave Higham. When pillars of certainty crumble, is it possible to rebuild something even stronger in their place? When two trusted ward members announced they were leaving the Church, newly called bishop Scott Brandley was rocked to the core. This week we are studying The Restoration of the Fulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our prophet decided that to celebrate the restoration of the gospel and the first vision given to Joseph smith, instead of building a monument out of granite or stone, he would build one out of words. The monument of words the first presidency created is titled “The Restoration of the Fulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ: A Bicentennial Proclamation to the World.” It's a monument not just to the First Vision but also to everything Jesus Christ has done—and is still doing—since then. Children will learn these concepts:“God loves His children in every nation of the world.”The Restoration began with an answer to a question.Jesus Christ has restored His Church.“The heavens are open.”“Heavenly messengers came to instruct Joseph Smith”
