Sadie's kicking off the first of many recap episodes for "Duck Dynasty: The Revival" with Willie, Korie, and Bella. The fam opens up about what's changed since the original show, how Willie's fully leaning into his goofy grandpa era (and occasionally using his celeb status to get out of trouble), and how Korie's finally got an official job title. They share what it's been like working together as a family, the traditions they're bringing back, and the ones they wish they hadn't skipped—like duck hunting! Catch a behind-the-scenes look at how the Robertson family is blending old memories with new rhythms in this next chapter of life. We have to come clean...a recent study by Baycrest's Rotman Research Institute says that research participants scored an average of 94% on memory accuracy. This high level of accuracy was observed regardless of the participants or the time that had elapsed since the event occurred. However, we have 6% to work with and add to memory stacking!Memory stacking is all about filling our children's memories with good and beauty from their upbringing and their family, and not memories of "we-nevers or I-nevers" or fighting with siblings...or being forced to *gasp* do chores ALLLLL the time. All jokes aside, the human brain has a major slant toward the negative. It's a protective mechanism, and it has an important job...but it shows up even it when it isn't needed. It's easier than it should be to get to the end of the year and question whether or not you've even done anything this year. It's easy for kids to just complain about what they didn't get to do, or what they don't have...and it to REALLY FEEL like that's true...even when we know it isn't.So …. in comes memory stacking...Recognize & Create Memory-Stacking Moments (02:20)Document Your Memory-Stacking Moments (05:50)Strew the Memories Everywhere (08:40)Use our Homeschool Plan Like A Mother to brainstorm memory-stacking ideas and give them a home. Attention is a fundamental need for many individuals, and children are no exception. It is crucial to prioritize one-on-one time with each child, especially when managing the demands of a larger family. "Dating your kids" – dedicating focused attention and quality time with each child individually – can help ensure that the attention and care they receive does not diminish when they are grouped together. Do you agree that this personalized approach to attention and engagement is essential for nurturing healthy, thriving children, even in larger families? Let's talk about it…

For Dr. Jessi Gold, everything was absolutely fine—until it suddenly wasn't. As practicing psychiatrist and assistant professor, Dr. Gold was used to being constantly busy. Dr. Gold's always-on, never say no approach to caregiving led to extreme burnout and led her to seek treatment for her own mental health. Now, Dr. Gold is out with a brand new book, “How Do You Feel?” that is part memoir, part mental health manual, designed to stave off burnout, overwhelm and guide people in caregiving roles to protect their mental health. We explore burnout versus full-blown depression, the signs of impending burnout, when DIY self-care at home is the right move, and when it's time to seek professional treatment. Plus, we uncover the high costs of perfectionism and the pursuit of gold stars, and get into strategies for caring for yourself while caregiving for others. Our fall campaign is happening now! It takes a lot to keep City Cast Pittsburgh and Hey Pittsburgh running strong. Your membership helps us cover the cost of bringing you the local stories you care about. If you believe in what we do, become a member of City Cast Pittsburgh today. Every member makes a difference! Debate moderators, the national press, and even the candidates themselves keep equating Pennsylvania voters with fracking, even as they say the commonwealth could be the electoral linchpin for the White House. But why? Why has fracking become the single issue we're associated with? Today we're with friend-of-the-pod Kiley Bense of Inside Climate News to talk about how 13 million Pennsylvanians really feel about natural gas extraction, and what the campaigns should maybe be talking about instead. Here are some notes and references from today's show: MSNBC's Chris Hayes talked about fracking with PA Lt. Gov. Austin Davis & former congressman and Republican advisor Charlie Dent, who explain it's really more of a fear tactic. Today's guest, Kiley Bense, wrote about fracking in context with our local U.S. Senate race between Democratic incumbent Bob Casey and his Republican challenger, Dave McCormick. The Ohio River Valley Institute shared a poll in 2021 that indicated more people are worried about the climate impact of fracking. Muhlenberg College also tracks polling pretty closely. The NYT published an excellent piece about low natural gas prices and how fracking ebbs and flows with price and demand. And check out this Inquirer column, which argues that if the candidates really wanted to woo us, they'd be talking less about fracking and more about the economy and reproductive rights. Unrehearsed, unrefined, and completely from my heart… THIS is exactly what you can expect during the next six minutes together. You see, I love (like really love) researching, writing, preparing, and creating content for you.But this episode is different, it wasn't done for the sake of creating content. This is actually a segment of a Q&A inside of Your Biggest Launch Ever. I was asked, “Do you ever get embarrassed creating content in public?”And in short: I do… (just ask my ex-neighbor who caught me on Zoom dancing to Toxic by Britney Spears while creating a Reel) but it's deeper than that.Click play to hear all of this and…(00:00:01) A GREAT question one of my students in Your Biggest Launch Ever asked me.(00:01:40) My (very) unprepared, heartfelt response to her question.(00:02:47) One specific and embarrassing incident that happened to me while recording and how I handled it.(00:04:39) The importance of not letting feelings of embarrassment stop you from building a business and taking action. For full show notes, visit: https://jasminestar.com/podcast/episode431
Ezra Klein joins Offline Movie Club to discuss “Her,” the movie that more or less incited this week's Scarlett Johansson v. OpenAI drama. Back in 2013, when ChatGPT was just a twinkle in Sam Altman's eye, no one thought a writer falling in love with his sentient virtual assistant was a near-term scenario. But here we are! Ezra, Max and Jon debate what AIs mean for relationships, how “Her” introduced emotional stakes that are absent from AIs in real life, and why Altman definitely copies Johansson's husky voice in the latest GPT-4o.
