From Loss to Legacy: A Suite Called ShollyIn this episode, Salt shares the story of her sister Sholly—a radiant life gone too soon—and the unexpected, beautiful bond that grief brought into her liffe. From sorrow to serendipity, discover how one online comment led to a life-changing friendship and a stunning tribute across the ocean. A tender reminder that even in loss, love can always finds a way to bloom.
To celebrate our 8th year at The Shola Adefolalu Gaska Foundation, I've come to share a few key lessons I've learned from managing a non-profit in Nigeria. Nothing too deep; just me sharing from my lived experiences. I'm dedicating this podcast to three women who helped me in the very early days: Winifred Ereyi: Betty Abah and Ore Somolu⭐️
Salt shares her thoughts about her Sister, Sholly's final post on Facebook. How Sholly's Christmas greeting ‘Merry Everything and Happy Always' now has a new meaning for her. NB. I recorded this last night and upon listening just now, it dawned on me that my charge to us might not be realistic. It might not be possible, while living, to intentionally share timeless messages. It's only after one has passed on that this can be determined I think. I don't know.
Andy Sholly is a friend of mine and a badass ultra runner from the Tampa area in Florida. He prefers the backyard ultra format, and does very well at it. He seems to be built for it. When he's in race mode, he's just very efficient in every single aspect. He saves all of the energy for running each yard. Between each running segment he is in recovery/cool down mode and it is a spectacle to watch how efficient he has become. Andy is an interesting guy and I'm sure you will enjoy getting to know him and hearing how a BYU person thinks. “Preservation of public land, an act known round the world” -- Yellowstone hails as America's first National Park, coining what is widely known as America's Best Idea, the National Park Service. In this episode, we are chatting with the big kahuna, Cam Sholly, Superintendent of Yellowstone National Park. From heroically navigating a historic flood in 2022 (an 100% increase in cubic ft/s in the river since the last recorded flood), to both recognizing progress from a conservation perspective (as compared to the 1950-60s with folks lining up to feed bears out of garbage cans & the extirpation of the whole wolf population) and continuing to push for better protection and management of Yellowstone, to setting the standard for employee housing across the park service, Cam's insight, leadership and experience captivates any listener. Did we mention Yellowstone was a big deal? With over 4M visitors annually, it is situated across three states (Montana, Idaho & Wyoming) and is known for its astonishing wildlife, geothermal wonders and awe-inspiring nature. Oh, and it also is the only place on the face of our planet that has this level of wildlife and visitor interface. For more rad & adventurous stories, follow Who Runs This Park on TikTok, Instagram, Facebook or YouTube, email us at info@whorunsthispark.com or check us out online at whorunsthispark.com. Most of the health info about there tells us it's super important to get good sleep between the hours of 10pm and 8am in order for long, healthy lives. But what happens if your job is at night, and you have to sleep during the day? And what if you are surrounded by alcohol at that night job, which we know negatively impacts health outcomes over time? On this episode, I talk to Danielle Sholly, who is a trained integrative nutritionist who also works as an exotic dancer. She has fine-tuned what it takes in order to not only stay healthy, but thrive, working nights at a non-traditional job. We also talk about skin health, which is what guided Danielle on her health journey in the first place, and how she now has the healthiest skin of her life, even with working non-traditional hours. What We Cover: ✨How Danielle got into integrative nutrition for women ✨The steps to finding the root cause of skin and health issues and what to do about them ✨The importance of listening to your body's feedback ✨How exotic dancing helped to make her feel more embodied and healthy ✨ And much more! Danielle Sholly is a health and life coach moonlighting as an exotic dancer and is now bringing all her experience and wisdom to the dancer community on how to thrive in the industry and stay healthy while figuring out your next steps, so you can align with your true purpose. Danielle moved to Asheville NC in 2012 and a year later landed my dream job working in an integrative health clinic. She got trained as a phlebotomist and did regular bloodwork on our patients. She was using my health coaching in the clinic and got to see the power of nutrition and lifestyle changes improving patient's health. During that time, Danielle also fell in love with pole dance when a friend of hers got certified to teach pole and wanted a practice student. Danielle learned her first tricks in her friends living room where she had a pole set up. She trained in the S-Factor methodology, which focuses on sensuality and reclaiming your power as sexual being without shame. Danielle began dancing professionally when she lost her job suddenly and was swamped with debt. She felt comfortable pole dancing at this point, so she thought, “Why not try it…YOLO?” Her first night she only made $182, but that was already way more than she had ever made at her day job working $16/hr for 8 hours. The first month she made $2700 only working 10 shifts… her mind was blown! The next month 3k, then 5k, then 6k!!! All while only working 25 hours a week. Now, Danielle consistently hits over 10k per month and desires to show other dancers how to embody their most bada$$ selves, make more money, stay healthy and fit, and use their dancing career to fuel their true purpose. Learn more about Danielle at her website and on Instagram. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/christine-garvin/support

This was the inaugural year for the Last of the Felascans in Alachua, Florida. Andy Sholly was the Last Person Standing with a total of 26 yards for 26 hours running a total of 103.34 miles! Sholly is no stranger to this race format having won the 2022 Death at Depuis here in Florida and won the Last at the Lake in West Point Lake, Georgia. Matt Clapper took second place this year and his final lap was a legendary tale. Clapper recently placed 10th Overall at the Pinellas Trail Challenge. Andrew, also known as A2, has raced all over the world and across the country from UTMB to the Vermont 100, Rocky Racoon, Western States 100, Tuschars, Never Summer, and the North Face Endurance Challenge. He's also signed up for the 2023 Cocodona 250! Last but not least, we've got Theresa Patton, she was your last woman remaining in the race! She completed 12 hours and 50 miles! Enjoy as we ramble on through stories of feet, puke, hydration methods, and how the hours went down. It's an amazing event as everyone is competing meanwhile encouraging each other.
After the unprecedented flooding disaster that hit the worlds first National Park and the surrounding areas, Cam Sholly, the Park Superintendent, has pulled off the impossible. Without a single loss of life in what has been described as a 100 year event with billions of dollars worth of damage, Cam Sholly, along with Sarah Davis, the head Park Ranger for Yellowstone, have been able to not only avoid a single death during this enormous disaster, they have been able to set a re-opening date within only a week or so after these unbelievable events transpired. In this podcast, I cover everything that Cam Sholly went over in his daily press conference on June 17th in which he described how the re-opening of Yellowstone Park is going to unfold. I cover every detail possible to help know what you will find when you arrive for your Yellowstone vacation for the remainder of the year. And it's all great news. Yellowstone is set to open next week after a simply masterful job by Mr. Sholly and Mrs. Davis and their staffs have been able to pull off so you can come to Yellowstone and help celebrate what has become a most memorable 150th birthday party for the worlds first national park!

Known as Salt, Abimbola Essien-Nelson wrote her book "Oluwashola the Story of Us" as a tribute to her younger sister who unfortunately died at 36 under mysterious circumstances. Also, growing out of her feelings for her sister, Salt founded Sholly's Serenity Place, a ten bed facility for abused women under the auspices of the Shola Adefolalu Gaska Foundation. The Ladies of Africa named Salt in their 100 Most Inspiring Women 2022 in Nigeria. The foundation feeds the poor, provides some financial support, and works to prevent sugar diabetes. Nigeria has no government programs and fewer than 30 shelters in the whole country, so Salt has had to self-fund through grants. Salt speaks publicly and maintains a strong presence on social media. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/susan-sherayko/support

In this episode Julie Walsh talks with writer Leslie Sholly about the experience of being politically uncomfortable. The two enjoy a kinship of sorts: their political views are similar to one another, but make them outliers in their respective communities. Leslie, who lives in a conservative, southern, Republican state, identifies as a pro-life Democrat. And Julie, who lives in a liberal, east coast, Democratic state, finds herself as a sort of moderate, uncomfortable Republican. Both identify with the minority parties in their states, but find themselves as ideological minorities even within those parties. Both very well used to being politically uncomfortable. From 2008: Pete Von Sholly’s day job would be enough excitement for most of us. He creates storyboards for big budget Hollywood movies, and if you’ve seen The Shawshank Redemption or Mars Attacks!, for example, the finished product was based on his early drawings. But being a respected, behind-the-scenes craftsman isn’t satisfying Von Sholly’s fertile mind. For several years, he’s been meshing a unique form of comics and cartoons that combine hand-drawn images with real life.
Here's the second half of our interview with Pete von Sholly. Yes, he voluntarily talked to us for nearly two hours - we're shocked too!
