And how they can now provid you with some top notch gear that you may have forgotten or weren't prepared for and where you can also rent the best Bear Spray as well as High Powered Binoculars for finding Bears, Wolves and Elk who may be a bit too far from the roads to see with the naked eye.
As anyone who has listened to my Yellowstone & Grand Teton podcasts that you can listen to if you want more info than the is shown in the guidebook, knows that I tell a LOT of stories about the areas of the parks you are visiting. And I get a LOT of requests to hear even more stories so here goes. This is the first in what will be a series of my Story Podcasts where I will tell you some really fun, sometimes sad and some rather interesting stories about the areas in and around the parks for you to enjoy as you drive along. In this podcast, I tell the hilarious story of what was and is one of the most famous bears in the history of bear's-Snagglethooth! Who actually resides in the West Yellowstone Museum right now and how he tore my Aunt Rosalind's brand new Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser to shreds one night at the town dump. I then follow it up with another museum story but this time it's at the long gone museum that sat along the shores of Lake Henry's where I grew up as a kid and how I found an old picture that showed how the Indian's that called Yellowstone home used the then swampy lake as sacred ground and how their burial plots were scattered on mounds in the lake by the hundreds. And how I almost found one as I was water skiing in the lake hundreds of years later. It's all fun listening and there will be other Story Podcasts to follow!
This podcast covers what is probably the most intriguing., thought provoking and interesting legal paper ever written about Yellowstone Park which was penned by attorney Brian C. Kalt called The Perfect Crime. I recently interviewed Brian in a Zoom call you get to hear excerpts directly from the author himself in regards to just how it is theoretically possible to commit a litany of crimes, including murder, in a certain section of Yellowstone Park and get away with it-SCOTT FREE!And we discuss the loopholes in our laws and Constitution that have created that loophole and what needs to happen to close it. I finish out the podcast with a complete reading of The Perfect Crime verbatim for you guys so you don't have to look it up yourselves and can listen to my reading while your driving down the road. It's a very thought provoking concept that actually exists in a remote portion of Yellowstone Park and I think it is just a matter of tome before someone puts it to the test.
It's the 3rd Friday in April and just like it has every year, Yellowstone Park is open for business! Or is it???? Starting today, you can drive from Mammoth or West Yellowstone to the Canyon area and over to Old Faithful. BUT!!!!The park has seen it's third highest snow totals in 100 years and the highest totals since all records were set in 1996 when the park had an unbelievable 29.5 feet of snow. As Yellowstone opened today, the ground in the park is still covered by 6-8' of snow at the West Entrance and up to 12' of snow in the Canyon Area and the high temp for opening day is supposed to be 29 degrees with a low of 7. If you see Old Faithful go off, all your going to see is steam and everything in the Canyon area is closed as is every trail in the park and Grand Teton is the same way.Follow the tips in the Planning Your Yellowstone Vacation Chapter in the guidebook and don't waste your Time and Money by coming to the park too early and freezing your ass off and not seeing anything.
In this podcast, I cover 3 great roads that are all shown on the Yellowstone park map they hand you when you go through the gate. However, these roads skirt the Northern and then Southern Boundaries of Yellowstone Park and hardly anyone even knows they exist but they all offer some great and seldom seen sections of roads inside Yellowstone Park as well as just outside it's Western Boundary. We cover all the great things to see from West Yellowstone north on 191 which actually goes inside the park without any fees or traffic and a suggested 55MPH speed limit which gets you to some of the best hiking spots in the park as well as Big Sky and then I tell you about the best of Bozeman including where they film scenes from the show Yellowstone with Kevins Costner. We then hit 287 as it exits Yellowstone Park and I get you to the best breakfast in the US and then along the driving tour of the worst natural disaster to ever hit the US where you will be driving on the top of 28 bodies under the road. We then hit the Flagg Ranch Road which runs from Ashton Idaho right along the souther boundary of Yellowstone Park all the way to the South Entry gate. We hit the fantastic Bechler area which is my favorite part of Yellowstone as well as discussing the Zone Of Death where you can (theoretically I hope) commit murder and actually get away with it! Its all big fun on some seldom seen roads both inside and right outside Yellowstone Park that get you to some of the best spots in the Worlds First National Park.
This podcast is an introduction to Explore Yellowstone Like a Local for all those out there who are deciding if they want to buy a Guidebook and start listening to the Podcasts. I first go over some Full Length Reviews from past visitors who bought a guidebook and had a great time in the parks and who shared a review their reviews which are listed on our Website. We then cover how the Guidebook saves you TIME and MONEY and tell you some stories that past visitors sent us after they got home of how much Money and Time they saved by following my tips and suggestions. I then go over my families history in the area which dates back to at least 1919 when my Grandfather started bringing my dad and his two brothers to the area and whose love of Yellowstone was passed on from generation to generation. I finally read you guys an excerpt from the guidebook and get a bit choked up in the process when telling you about some of the wonderful areas that I have been visiting my whole life and which now the guidebook gets you to as well.
This podcast covers what I have found after going into Yellowstone a few times after the park re-opened after the historic floods this spring. We cover how well the odd/even license plate plate entry system is working and what to expect when you hit the entry gates. We also cover how West Yellowstone, the busiest entry town by far for Yellowstone Park is down nearly 40% from previous years and why you should take advantage of this. We then cover when the North Loop should open up and as always, how to beat the crowds at the main stops and see the best Yellowstone has to offer without another tourist in sight. We also cover a new momma grizzly bear and her tiny, tiny cub and where the best spot is to see her. Lastly, we cover different things to do if you can't get in Yellowstone one day such as how to get to the Grand Tetons on a road hardly anyone knows exists and see some memorable sights such as Mesa Falls along the way as well. But its a great time to visit Yellowstone as visitation is WAY DOWN and you should take advantage of all that means and we cover all that in this podcast.
After the unprecedented flooding disaster that hit the worlds first National Park and the surrounding areas, Cam Sholly, the Park Superintendent, has pulled off the impossible. Without a single loss of life in what has been described as a 100 year event with billions of dollars worth of damage, Cam Sholly, along with Sarah Davis, the head Park Ranger for Yellowstone, have been able to not only avoid a single death during this enormous disaster, they have been able to set a re-opening date within only a week or so after these unbelievable events transpired. In this podcast, I cover everything that Cam Sholly went over in his daily press conference on June 17th in which he described how the re-opening of Yellowstone Park is going to unfold. We then drive through the Narrows on the way to Tower Falls and I tell you how to not only see the falls but about the crazy boulder that used to sit it's summit and then how to access the Yellowstone River from the viewing platform that hardly anyone knows about. We then continue along the North Loop and summit Mount Washburn and I tell you where NOT to hike as well as where you SHOULD hike in this area. And as usual, I throw in a couple of short stories about sleeping with an Elk and skateboarding down Dunraven Pass after I saw two boys walking behind a huge Grizzly Bear. I then tell you where you can find the elusive Moose like they were let out of a pen in the evening.

This podcast covers all the places that you can swim, get in a hot pot, get under a huge waterfall and swim in Yellowstone Park. We cover the Roaring Springs area up by Mammoth/Gardiner and the Firehole swimming area near Madison Junction which are the only two places the NPS advertises on their website that you are allowed to swim in Yellowstone. Take an off trail hike to a back country geyser basin which is home to a ton of mud pots and fumaroles but also Lime Geyser which I think is the most unique and interesting geyser in the entire park. All in a setting that you will have entirely to yourselves. We will make a stop at the Mud Volcanoes then hit Yellowstone Lake where I will regale you with a very personal near death story about yours truly and then a truly sad story about a group of boy scouts who died on the deadliest body of water per user than any other in the US, Yellowstone Lake. We will have a cocktail and listen to a little Mozart and Bach while we sip a cocktail on a beautiful veranda before we dine at the best restaurant in the park and sleep in a room held open for Queen Elizabeth and the Royals. We will finish it off with a volcanic eruption where you can actually see the rocks that were blown out of the center of the earth just 150,000 years ago which is a snap of the fingers geologically speaking.
This podcast covers the section of road between Norris Geyser Basin and the Canyon Village Area which is home to the hippest thing in the park, the Lower Falls which sits in the namesake canyon for Yellowstone-The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. I'll tell you about a few things to see along this short section of road including a couple short, easy hikes and the only place to catch a prehistoric fish in the park. But most importantly I'll tell you which vantage points are best to see both sets of falls from and tell you where you can actually sit on the famous Thomas Moran bench and take a great picture and explain the history behind that bench and how that very spot was synonymous in getting Yellowstone Park voted into existence as the first national park in the world. As well as a couple easy trails to see the lower falls without all the people and a great place to get right down next to the massive, surging and beautiful Yellowstone River where you can actually get your feet wet if you like. And as usual, I throw in a couple interesting death stories as well as a story about a couple of Italians who were probably going to get killed by a monster Grizzly bear before I intervened and possibly saved their dumb asses.

You will pass through the glacially boulder strewn Lamar Valley where the Wolf Packs of Yellowstone hunt in packs and get your best chance to see a Grizzly Bear as well as thousands of Bison. We will head down the road to the Mud Pots for a quick stop then have the best lunch in the park at the beautiful Lake Hotel and I will tell you about a group of boy scouts who perished on the most deadly body of water in the US. We will finish the day at Old Faithful from the best vantage point and I will tell you how to catch the rest of the geysers in the area as well including Beehive, Grand, Castle, Daisy and then Riverside. I then get you off the beaten path to some great backcountry pools that 99.9% of the people who visit the Old Faithful area ever see and they are only a 5 minute walk down the trail. We finish the day at the Iconic Old Faithful Inn with a drink in the hippest bar in the US and then a sunset over Grand Prismatic Pool. The most photographed pool in the world and we do it all in one huge day in Yellowstone Park.
This podcast covers the 14 mile section of road from Madison Junction to Norris Geyser Basin which is home to Steamboat Geyser. Along the way I will tell you about 2 secret hikes. The first is right to the base of Gibbon Falls where the trail actually goes into the river in spots and where you can have the warm waters of Gibbon Falls cascading down all over you as well as a great Brook Trout fishing hole right at the base of the falls. The second gets you to the Gibbon Meadow backcountry geyser areas where you will find all sorts of colored pools, mud pots, fumaroles and geyser pools that erupt constantly. This area is truly in the backcountry but is only a short hike from your car and is a truly hidden gem in Yellowstone. This area sees less than 10 people a year if that. You just have to know how to get there and I will tell you how here. I will also tell you about a really interesting and somewhat weird spot along the Gibbon River that is only 20' from the road but is hidden by trees so hardly anyone knows its there except locals. I will also cover the Artists Paint Pots Trial which is a great hike for small kids as well as Norris Geyser Basin which is my least favorite stop in the park. So if you are up for some great hikes, a great fishing spot or just want to know more about this small section of road that most visitors never give the time of day and just pass right through, then take a listen and Explore Yellowstone Like a Local.

This podcasts is designed to be used in partnership with ALL my other podcasts. It is basically the Introduction to all the podcasts and how they work in conjunction with the guidebook. And you only need to listen to this podcast one time but it is vital that you do. In this podcast I cover all the very important tips you simply must follow in order for you to have a successful trip to the parks. Things like your cell phone won't work when you enter the gates, how to break down Yellowstone into manageable bites, what you need to do before you enter the gates and how to follow the rules as set forth by the NPS. Everything you need to know so you have a successful and really fun and enjoyable trip to Yellowstone and Grand Teton is in this podcast.
This podcast explains why we had to pull some of the original podcast as we are just making sure they meet all the NPS guidelines. At least its fall and the season is winding down anyway. We also go over the rule about hiking in a geyser basin and we also hope to have clarification on that and make it even more clear that cliff jumping in the Firehole River is illegal. And we are putting the Treasure Hunt on hold as the NPS wanted to review my little idea and make sure it was up to snuff with park guidelines as well. And most important of all, we are fighting litigation with the NPS so that our Explorers can visit ALL of Yellowstone Park and we have started up a Go Fund Me page to help with that battle that involves everyone who wants to visit Yellowstone Park and be able to see all of it.
All the Corona Virus info has been deleted and this revised podcast is for those of you that request more stories, I have thrown in two near death experiences that occurred while white water rafting the world famous Kitchen Sink Rapids in the Bear Trap Canyon on the Madison River. One story of my good friend Mike and then 10 years later in the exact same spot, one of yours truly where I really got close to buying the farm but was the most spiritual experience of my life. But it's all good news, the parks are opening basically on schedule as they have done every year prior to this one.
This podcast has all the Corona virus stuff eliminated and has just one really great funny story about our first big overnight hike in Yellowstone back in the 1980's to the gorgeous and very seldom seen Bechler region of Yellowstone which is my favorite part of the park.
