When Phil Myers started working at the TRIP warehouse during the 1986 holidays, he was taken by the sight of Earl Martis driving a forklift around the facility. Earl had a Miller Light in one hand and a Tiparillo in his mouth. Making sure to work hard, unlike some of his colleagues, Phil had every expectation to stay on when the holidays were over. Nonetheless, he was laid off from his temporary assignment by Earl Martis.A couple of years later Phil found himself in NYC and his brother Max recommended him to Matthew Koenig and Howard Cespedes. The day he went to talk to Howard, one of his favorite bands was doing an in store signing behind a large table and with an ice chest full of Budweiser Beer, leading Phil to think to himself “Oh, I've got to work here!” Phil got the job, worked his way to an amazing schedule through hard work and took in all that Manhattan had to offer. One Friday night while working his Country, Folk, Bluegrass section the local Capitol Records rep stopped by the store, unannounced, with an artist about to release his first album; Garth Brooks. After being Assistant Manager to Howard Cespedes, Phil got burned out on NYC, left for a short stint in Dublin, CA with Kevin Cassidy and then headed to the first Chicago store working as Operations Manager with Greg Wallis. The store was a failure out of the gate and it took a long time before things caught on. Phil was promoted to the position of General Manager and worked with a strong team who ultimately made Chicago a Top 10 store in the chain. From there Phil moved on to be a Video Regional Manager and then finished the last six years of his Tower Career as Midwest Regional Director, with a truly wonderful musical market of stores to oversee, until he left the company in 2005. Phil tells us about the amazing roster of Managers he oversaw, his TAC memories of Peter Glenn and Jack Gallagher, working with Bill Duffy, John Thrasher, Stan Goman and Russ Solomon, the end of his career consisting of closing stores and dealing with store resentment, having Tower dreams and a whole lot more. Join us for a wonderful, upbeat conversation with a true Tower jewel.

As a pastor, and as a church, how do you get the most out of a sabbatical? In this week's conversation on FrontStage BackStage, host Jason Daye is joined by Jay Fowler. Jay serves as the Midwest Regional Director at PastorServe. He is a certified coach who coaches pastors, consults churches, and serves in crisis care. He is an ordained Anglican priest who has planted churches, pastored and served churches for over 30 years. Jay has also coached many pastors and helped churches through the process of coaching around sabbaticals, and he has written the Sabbatical Prep Workbook. Together, Jay, and I look at not only the value of a sabbatical for a pastor, but also the value of a sabbatical for the local church. Then we also explore some of the ways that you can actually get the most out of that sabbatical time, making it as effective and impactful as possible, for both the pastor and the church.Dig deeper into this conversation: Find the free Weekly Toolkit, including the Ministry Leaders Growth Guide, all resource links, and more at http://PastorServe.org/networkSome key takeaways from this conversation:Jay Fowler on getting the most from your sabbatical: “Preparation time for the sabbatical is just as important as the actual sabbatical itself”Jay Fowler on why sabbaticals are gaining more interest: "I think for sabbaticals and the need for them, it's an understanding of the soul of the pastor. And I think more and more churches are saying, like, we don't want that. We don't want a pastor that snaps and we don't want one that's malformed. We'd like a healthy pastor."Jay Fowler on the value of a sabbatical coach: "Those three phases of sabbatical coaching [pre-sabbatical, during sabbatical, post-sabbatical] really benefit the pastor, and then ultimately, I really do believe benefit the church."Jay Fowler on praying as you prepare for sabbatical: "“I really encourage pastors to pray: Lord, what do you want to say to me? What do you want to do in me? How do you want to meet me in this sabbatical?”-------Looking to dig more deeply into this topic and conversation? FrontStage BackStage is much more than another church leadership show, it is a complete resource to help you and your ministry leaders grow. The Jewish religious festival known as Shavuot goes by many other names, like the Feast of Weeks, or First Fruits. Most Christians know it as Pentecost, and think of it as the day when the Holy Spirit was given to the church (Acts 2:1-47). But did you ever stop to think why God chose *that* day to send the Holy Spirit? After all, the Old Covenant religious feasts all had important significance—yes, for God's people Israel then, but also for God's people today—and God never does anything without a good reason. So what was his reason for sending the Holy Spirit on Pentecost? Today Roy Schwarcz is going to reveal the biblical importance of Shavuot, how it points to the Messiah, and what meaning believers can draw from it today. Specifically, you will learn about: The meaning of "Shavuot" and how the festival was to be celebrated. The connection between the *first* first fruits, the barley harvest, and the *second* first fruits of the wheat harvest, and how these point forward to Jesus and the Holy Spirit. How to draw on the meaning of Shavuot/Pentecost to share the Gospel with your Jewish friends, family and neighbors. ...and more! About Roy Schwarcz: Roy is the Midwest Regional Director of Chosen People Ministries (www.chosenpeople.com) and author of Where Jesus Walked, a book examining over 50 portions of Jesus’s life and showing how the Old Testament prophets foretold them. Easter and Passover are two different holidays belonging to two distinct religions (namely, Christianity and Judaism)...right? At first glance, one could be forgiven for thinking the two holidays don’t have much in common. And yet, every year there are many Christians who celebrate both holidays. What should we make of this, and what are the connections between these two ancient religious festivals? Are you fascinated by the connections between modern-day Christianity and ancient Judaism? Perhaps you have been researching the connections between Passover (Pesach in Hebrew) and Easter (still called Pascha in some Christian traditions). Or maybe the subject is totally new to you. Either way, you will not want to miss this conversation between Roy Schwarcz and Joel Settecase. In today’s episode you’ll see why Passover has so much importance for followers of Jesus (AKA Yeshua), whether it’s appropriate for Christians to celebrate Passover, and how believers who choose to celebrate Passover can unlock its messianic meaning. Specifically, you’ll find out… Roy Schwarcz’s background growing up in Judaism, and how he became a believer in Jesus. Why so many Christians celebrate Passover. Why it matters that Jesus was crucified on Passover, and what it meant that John the Baptist called Him “The Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.” Whether Passover can rightly be considered a “Christian holy day.” What the connection is between Passover and Easter. What a Messianic Passover Seder looks like, and how to observe one yourself. Whether Christians celebrating Passover is “cultural appropriation” or “religious appropriation.” How celebrating Passover can be a powerful way of connecting with non-Christian, Jewish friends. Whether a Messianic Passover Seder can be a tool for evangelism. Joel’s guest today is Roy Schwarcz, Midwest Regional Director of Chosen People Ministries (www.chosenpeople.com) and author of Where Jesus Walked, a book examining over 50 portions of Jesus’s life and showing how the Old Testament prophets foretold them. His teaching regularly focuses on the Jewish Holy Days and the connection between the Old and New Covenants. He is also Joel Settecase’s father-in-law! You will hear Roy Schwarcz explain why so many Christians are celebrating Passover this year, and how the holiday pointed the Jewish people to the coming Messiah—and still points to Him today. Welcome back to The Securities Compliance Podcast! On today’s show, we continue our Lessons From the Front Lines series. Much like our regular shows, this series will provide same excellent content to help you put Compliance In Context™, but will deliver that content in a more narrative form—like a fireside conversation with an industry pro. In this way, the Lessons From the Front Lines series will provide you with practical advice and takeaways that focus on a real-life, tough lessons other compliance professionals and regulators have learned on the front lines of our industry. To help guide us through today’s show, we welcome in Ed Wegener, the former Senior VP and Midwest Regional Director of FINRA to discuss some real lessons learned on the front lines of the investigation and enforcement process. Topics: Reviewing the life cycle of a regulatory investigation Analysis of findings from routine examinations, cause examinations or enforcement investigations. Use of data analytics in the investigation process Conclusion of the Investigation Referral to enforcement and escalation of findings Enhanced focus on the impact the supervisory process and requisite due diligence of products, OBAs, private transactions, borrowing from customers, etc. Discussion of policies and procedures and related training protocols How does the firm monitor for compliance with its policy? Reviewing the FINRA 2021 Annual Regulatory and Exam Priorities Industry innovations to enhance the process of investigations and enforcement Quotes: “When they do conduct an examination, they have been getting really good at taking that information that they gather through things like electronic blotters—putting that through their analytical systems and using that to identify areas of potential focus. And so the way we used to think about it was, it’s trying to find needles in haystacks and the analytics aren’t necessarily going to find the needles for you, but they're going to tell you that if there are needles they're probably in this part of the haystack.” “I think as an examiner at FINRA, what I really want to know is not particularly what I find on the examination, but when I leave the firm, what are they going to be doing to make sure they have controls over the risks that I’m concerned about.” “You know it’s interesting I’m not sure that Reg BI is changing the landscape in terms of that from the perspective of really understanding the products that you're selling. I think there's always been that expectation, you know whether it was reasonable basis—suitability requirement or the care obligation with respect to Reg BI but the important thing is that firms before they start recommending products that they understand those products. They understand the features and the risks and that the people who are selling them understand them as well.” Resources: Compliance in Context

ATTENTION CONTROL FREAKS, PERFECTIONISTS, DORM MOTHERS, HALL MONITORS, PETTY TYRANTS, BRIDEZILLAS, AND OCD MOTHER-IN-LAWS...This episode is for you. Gaye Lindfors was raised in a tiny town in central Minnesota. Taught from an early age to fear the Lord, she chose a career in Corporate America in order to "reconcile her faith with the real world." She desired a more practical way of living her faith than that of the monastic monk praying and handing out tracks to strangers. As the head of human resources for a major airline based in Minneapolis, Gaye was responsible for resolving at times extremely complex issues involving employees of the airline. So when her mother's Alzheimer's degraded to the point that she needed full-time live-in assistance, she thought, "No problem! I've got this." Famous last words. Gaye soon realized that dealing with an ill mother was not quite the same as dealing with complex issues involving employees with whom she had little or no emotional connection. She realized her controlling habits and mindset were a major obstacle to her ability to care for her mother, and was in turn creating health issues of her own. Gaye realized that in order to properly care for her mother, and for her own sanity, she needed to break through her need to always feel like she's in control. Now that the storm has passed, and she has properly grieved her mother's passing, Gaye can laugh at her own ControlFreakitis and give encouragement to others who have similar struggles. About the guest: Whether she's speaking at women's conferences or retreats, blogging, or writing books, Gaye's not afraid to poke fun at her own mishaps. She brings a blend of Bible teaching, life stories, and humor. Gaye started her own company after a successful leadership career in corporate America. She served as the Midwest Regional Director for Christian Women in Media and is past-president of the National Speakers Association for the Minnesota Chapter. Her most recent book, “Getting My Ducks in a Row and other Stories of Faith,” reminds us that when we don't have our act together (which, for a lot of us, is much of the time), when we can't even find our ducks and getting them in a row seems like mission impossible, God is faithful. We can stop fixing, fretting, and striving. Gaye will encourage your soul, refresh your faith, and give you something to giggle about. In our discussion with Gaye, you'll discover: -Gaye's "Faith Breakthrough"...04:05 -Needing encouragement dealing with Mom's Alzheimers...08:20 -A saint in blue jeans...10:50 -Gaye's support system dealing with the chaos...13:35 -Responding to the feeling of lost control...15:10 -Giving up the need to control and fix...17:20 -Not born with a "badge of courage"...24:20 -The inspiration behind Gaye's book...26:45 -What do people think when they see a glimpse of your life?...29:30 -The true meaning of piety...32:15 -Overcoming chronic controlfreakitis...36:00 Download Gaye's FREE ebook: "Finding a Breath of Fresh Air, And a Way to Start Again" at her website gayelindfors.com

He’s GOP chairman of the fourth congressional district, a commissioner for the Wisconsin Elections Commission and Midwest Regional Director for the Republican National Hispanic Assembly. He’s also a repeat delegate to the Republican National Convention. This is his sixth time. He says his favorite moment was four years ago when Donald Trump addressed the nation after being nominated. “I mean, we were so upbeat on that, leaving that convention, that that's one of the reasons we won, everybody was so enthusiastic, so excited about President Trump, and we were able to put the

Oyster Stew - A Broth of Financial Services Commentary and Insights
For financial services firms registered with regulatory bodies, regulatory exams have instilled the gamut of emotions from annoyance to anxiety, to outright fear. Fortunately, much of this could be mitigated with a better understanding of the exam process, the necessity for robust risk assessments, and by nurturing the firm's relationship with it's regulatory contact. This week's episode features Oyster Managing Director Ed Wegener, formerly a SVP and Midwest Regional Director of FINRA discussing risk assessments and how FINRA is using those assessments to help determine the scope, depth, breadth and frequency of their examinations of broker-dealers.

Tom Heshion Founder of Equine and Wines and a team of world renowned experts, are building one-of-a-kind community just minutes from Tombstone, Arizona. Tom has had an exciting career in entrepreneurship as well as horsemanship. He developed the vision behind Equine and Wines. As an owner and manager of 29 horses, Tom swears that he is not addicted to horses, but admits he is addicted to the therapy they have provided him during his stressful years in executive management. Like most serial entrepreneur’s, Tom started his first company with his $5,000.00 savings. By age 22, that company had grown to over to over 13 million in revenue. After 10 years of success, wanting a career change that reflected his love of horses, he purchased 2 PVC fence distributorships and started National Fence Company. He chose that name, not knowing at the time that it would expand into an international enterprise. After the sale of that company to Sears in 1996, he was hired by Auto-by-Tel as the Midwest Regional Director, then, promoted to President and was instrumental in the launch of the first ever, successful, IPO for a Dot-Com company. That IPO evaluation was in excess of $500,000,000.00. The company was noted for boldly purchasing the first NFL Superbowl ad for a Dot-Com company. Unlike most of the other dot-com start-ups, Auto-by-Tel.com is still in business today. NASDAQ (ABTL) By the late 1990’s, Tom realized where his abilities were best suited; Tom went into the Venture Capital business where he oversaw numerous investments for the firm. One of the ventures led to him taking a position as the CEO of Recreational Technologies, a failing technology company. Tom changed the direction of the company when he envisioned their current technology being used as a broadcast tool. He assembled the team to build out his plan, and raised the capital. That is the strike-zone and pitch placement technology now used repeatedly in the broadcasting of professional baseball, instant replay. Today, Tom is still in love with his high school sweetheart Cindy, and oversees trust fund investments in the medical, technology, organic farming, and equine industries. Organic Hays, LLC is the company he is giving most of his attention to, today. Tom is a true entrepreneur at heart, who volunteers his time mentoring young entrepreneurs attending the Kauffman Foundation School of Entrepreneurship. His organic agricultural investments and research over the past two decades have led him to the unique vision of Equine and Wines and a community of organic agriculture, built with off the-grid power technologies that supports the continuation of the equine industry.
