Interview by Angela CroudacePhoto Credit: Erik Ohlsson, Magnus LarnhedTwo of the all-time punk greats will be returning to Australia with pioneering California dynamos PENNYWISE and beloved Swedish trailblazers MILLENCOLIN set to co-headline a huge run down under. For over 30 years, Swedish icons MILLENCOLIN have vividly put punk on the map. With their original line up still intact since forming back in 1992, MILLENCOLIN's debut album, 1994's Tiny Tunes, opened the floodgates that would shape the quartet's staggering career to come. Skyrocketing their popularity courtesy of the 2000 full-length Pennybridge Pioneers, the rock-infused dive beyond the band's earlier skate punk and ska leanings would ultimately spawn iconic tracks like No Cigar and Penguins & Polarbears, achieving infamy with No Cigar's addition to the soundtrack for Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, and ultimately finding the overall album scoring an ARIA Platinum certification. One of punk rock's most famed and favourite acts to emerge out of Europe, MILLENCOLIN have played thousands of shows around the world, including as part of Warped Tour, Soundwave Festival and Big Day Out, multiple sold-out headline performances, tours with the likes of Bad Religion and The Offspring, and, most recently for Australians, at Good Things Festival in 2022. And never ones to rest on their laurels, MILLENCOLIN also continue to finesse their sonic creations, seen vividly via their 2019 album SOS, exploring political and darker themes without sacrificing their explosive energy and gripping melodic.HEAVY caught up with Millencolin guitarist Mathias Färm to find out more.MILLENCOLIN & PENNYWISE tix from destroyalllines.comBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Dive into the heart of the rock scene with Emmy Mack of RedHook in the latest episode of "Hard N Heavy Headlines," where we peel back the layers of what's new, what's hot, and what's heavy in music today. In this episode, we're turning up the volume with exclusive updates on Korn, revealing their current studio grind to produce new music that promises to deliver their heaviest tunes in years. Guitarist Brian "Head" Welch teases a sonic assault that will redefine heavy music standards. Plus, we delve into the noble quest of former Soundwave festival boss AJ Maddah, who, in a candid interview, shares his commitment to rectifying the festival's abrupt 2016 halt and bankruptcy. Despite having no legal obligation to do so, Maddah's mission to repay owed bands underscores a story of redemption and moral responsibility. Meanwhile, rock legends AC/DC are smashing records again, proving their undying dominance in the music world by selling out 1.5 million tickets in a single day for their upcoming European tour. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Music festivals. My experience with them has been well documented on this podcast. I'm super glad they are a thing but the idea of running one just seems like such a huge amount of work that it makes my head spin. Luckily, I'm joined by AJ Maddah - a man who founded Soundwave Festival and Harvest Festival which saw bands like Deftones, Incubus, Sigur Ros, Nine Inch Nails, Beck, Faith No More, Iron Maiden, Slipknot, System of a Down, Metallica, Linkin Park - just to name a tiny fraction. What makes a festival good? What do you have to consider when booking a headliner? I mean, I don't really have an answer so it is for the best that I just ask AJ.

Band It About - Proudly Supporting Live Music

Eli Green had no desire to play the drums when he first started, his mother signed him up for lessons as a distraction while his parents were separating, and although he enjoyed the lessons and relationship that developed with his drum teacher, Eli eventually stopped playing. It wasn’t until a couple of years later when his school friends told him that they were going to start a band and insisted on him being their drummer, that the initial spark would ignite his desire to play, taking him on a musical journey which resulted in him becoming a professional musician gaining a lot of work as a session drummer, a touring drummer and music educator. Eli shares some hilarious memorable gig stories, discusses his early connection with ‘The Mark of Cain’ (where he is most well known from as their touring drummer), since 2013 and talks about how posting a demo to triple j on a whim resulted in his band ‘Life Pilot’ being played on-air that week, and how that raised their popularity which led to them winning the triple j Unearthed competition in 2013, opening the Soundwave Festival in Adelaide, and sharing the stage with bands that had influenced their band members, including 'Linkin Park', 'Blink-182' and 'Metallica'! Music: both the intro and outro are original songs written and performed by 'Life Pilot', "Pretty Like A Pistol" and "Dark, Dark, Goose", both songs were released as singles in 2019. There's something about bands who put out album after album that fans resonate with and appreciate as the years go by, essentially growing up with the band you could say, and it's even better when they nail it with every release, that's how most of us feel about Shinedown. The band who first graced our shores through their commercial radio hit 'Second Chance" before showcasing a fantastic hard rock style that caught the eye of promoters in 2010 who brought the guys over for the annual Soundwave Festival. From there the band have yet to return to Australia and in that time they've released a further three album, their latest one being Attention Attention which frontman Brent Smith was more than happy to discuss on this week's episode of Wall of Sound: Up Against The Wall. From their progression as musicians, multiple lineup changes and the "concept" behind their latest offering, nothing is off limits. Podcast host Browny (and big Shinedown fan) gathers a decade worth of knowledge about the band and throws it all Brent's way, including why they haven't return to Australia in eight years. There's also stacks of New Music from Halestorm, Tired Eyes, Faux Bandit, Mammal, Bad Wolves and Theory of a Deadman, throwbacks from The White Stripes, Pearl Jam, Linkin Park, Garbage, Sick Puppies and heaps more... #WoSUATE #Shinedown #BrentSmith #AttentionAttention #TheSoundOfMadness #HardRock #SoundwaveFest #TheWhiteStripes #FauxBandit #TiredEyes #AustralianBands #Seether #Halestorm #BiffyClyro #LinkinPark #TheoryOfADeadman #Mammal #Garbage #SickPuppies #PearlJam #StoneSour #HighTension #WallOfSoundAU
