In this episode, Bits and Pieces takes guard afresh after completing a fine 100. We ponder the metaphorical implications of Mushfiqur's soft-handling the ball, Buttler's disastrous run as ODI captain, and Pakistan's comical preparation for their next hammering in Australia. Also, lots of banter on the WPL Auction, and a cool rundown from Rachana Ramchand, and a review of the Englnd v India T20s. This episode also unveils the real reason why CSK doesn't pull off a Mumbai-Hardik and buy every single IPL superstar, and identifies the one remaining likeable person from India's 2011 World Cup squad. 16th May and IPL controversy go hand in hand. SRK controversy happened on 16th May 2012. One year later same date, IPL's biggest controversy broke out when Delhi Police arrested Sreesanth, Ajit Chandhila, Ankit Chavan after Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals match. This arrest was followed by the arrest of Mayyapan who was son in law of then BCCI supremo Srnivisan. The whole controversy kept getting headlines for considerable time to come. Aditya Joshi is telling us how this culminated into banning of 2 IPL franchises.

The unbridled pleasure that Sreesanth derived and provided with his spontaneous responses on the field will remain etched in people's memories forever. The talented medium pacer from Kerala went on to take the cricketing World by surprise with his great ability to flummox the best of batters. However, success is not an easy thing to handle. Not surprisingly, Sreesanth fell prey to the success and adulation as a result of not having a mentor to guide him- a fact that Sreesanth with a sense of disappointment and a touch of sadness as well. He makes it a point to share his experiences, the pleasant as well as the unpleasant ones along with advice, out of concerns for the welfare of the gen next. This is a must listen conversation not only for cricketers but also for people who are looking for answers that life sometimes doesn't provide readily enough.

On this episode of Cyrus Says, we have Abijit Ganguly and Punit Pania on the show with Silverie (Antariksh) working from home so that he matches the vibe on the live. They talk about what Cyrus says when he is asked what he does in life, and still wonder if this show will ever go on without a tech issue. They talk about Abijit's hand and the funny but worrying incident he had with his doctor pertaining to his current ongoing hand injury, whether doctors are prone to malpractise to make more money and meet hospital targets, Mumbai doctors vs Delhi doctors, and why people always compare Mumbai and Delhi in everything. Punit also talks about almost having Bhagwat Mann - the new Punjab CM - on Punit's show ' Beyond The Laughs' last year. Punit and Abijit also get into a hilarious roasting match. Further, we go into topics - AAP winning Punjab elections by a landslide, whether AAP could actually become a national party and go on to give a tough fight to the major political parties in India, Sreesanth retiring from international cricket, and the price of alcohol set to rise due to barley exports from Russia and Ukraine taking a hit. In this special episode, we chat with veteran cricket journalist and author Makarand Waingankar. Over the last five decades, Makarand has been witness to the changing tides in Indian cricket. He has written extensively about the game – from the maidans as well as the giant stadiums – and carries with him stories and anecdotes to last several lifetimes. Apart from his work as a journalist, Makarand played a key role at the BCA-Mafatlal Academy in the early 1990s - which produced cricketers like Abey Kuruvilla, Salil Ankola, Paras Mhambrey and Sairaj Bahutule. A decade later, he would play a vital part in the setting up of the BCCI's Talent Resource Development Wing, which would go on to unearth talents like MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Irfan Pathan, Sreesanth and Piyush Chawla. We chat with Makarand about the various hats he has worn over the years, and he provides us with a wonderful portrait of how cricket was when he started his journey and how vastly different things are now. Talking Points: Sunil Gavaskar's emergence in Bombay cricket Ashok Mankad's tactical genius Ravi Shastri's ability to rise to the occasion Frank Tyson, the gentle giant Abey Kuruvilla's meteoric rise The Talent Resource Development Wing Jagmohan Dalmaya's vision The current state of talent-spotting in India The lack of passion in Mumbai cricket Participants: Makarand Waingankar (@wmakarand) Siddhartha Vaidyanathan (@sidvee) Related: A million broken windows: he magic and mystique of Bombay cricket - Makarand Waingankar Guts and Glory - Makarand Waingankar Yuvi - Makarand Waingankar Bombay Boys - Makarand Waingankar Makarand Waingankar interview - cricketcountry.com Makarand Waingankar columns since 2015
