IPL 2025 is now in its final stage. Therefore, there is intense competition for the playoffs. Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings, and Sunrisers Hyderabad are the three teams that have been eliminated from the playoffs race. The remaining seven teams are fighting for four spots. So, the excitement has increased. If Lucknow Super Giants want to advance, they will have to win all their matches. This is only possible if Rishabh Pant regains his form. It is also important from the perspective of India's England tour. Kagiso Rabada has returned to Gujarat Titans after a one-month ban. What is the exact reason for that, and many such topics have been discussed by Aditya Joshi of 'Sports Katta' with Sumedh Naik. Sumedh is making his debut on 'Sports Katta'. For many years, he has been writing about cricket for various websites and also runs his own channel." The 2025 IPL group stage heads towards its conclusion, and results over the weekend appear to have solidified who will make the play-offs. Virat Kohli and RCB beat CSK in a thriller, which leaves them top of the table and in an excellent position to potentially win the IPL. Punjab Kings were also able to easily take down LSG, which firmed up their position. The potential outsider is KKR, who just squeezed past Rajasthan Royals, and may yet put together a run of victories which could take them to the play-offs. At just 14 years old, Vaibhav Suryavanshi captured attention in the cricket world with a remarkable innings for the Rajasthan Royals against the Gujarat Titans on April 28, 2025, making him the youngest player in IPL history. However, his age has sparked controversy. In this podcast, we talk with cricket writer Gopalkrishnan Unnikrishnan to discuss the situation and explore the possibility of Suryavanshi's debut for Team India.
After 14 year old Vaibhav Suryavanshi smashed record after record en route to his 35-ball hundred, Henry Moeran is joined by former IPL batter Abhishek Jhunjhunwala and commentator Matt Floyd to find out more about the teenage superstar. We learn more about his back story, how he's been managed, and how Rajasthan Royals – and Indian Cricket – can look after and nurture such a precocious talent.
India's Vaibhav Suryavanshi just smashed a match winning hundred from 35 balls in the IPL. He was only born in 2011. While some have questioned the legitimacy of his birth date, we have other questions like 'where did this teenager come from!?' and 'how good might he be?' In this episode of the show, Raj, Baldy, Binksy, Jamie and Stu look back at week 4 of IPL 2025, which saw a host of close matches, a few low scores, highlights from Jos Buttler, Mitchell Starc, Yuzvendra Chahal, a debut for 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi and plenty more. We start this week by talking about the remarkable debut of Vaibhav Suryavanshi for the Rajasthan Royals. There's talk about what we were doing at 14 and the confidence of youth, but also about what a missed opportunity this week was for RR to get themselves back into the tournament now that Yashasvi Jaiswal is firing. From there, we bounce around from the chances of the Mumbai Indians to go on a winning streak, CSK doubts, super overs and close games, Mitchell Starc yorkers and RCB's Josh Hazlewood tactics. There's also praise for Jos Buttler and the way he's adjusted to life at the Gujarat Titans, excitement from the Auckland studio about wrist-spinners and Yuzvendra Chahal in particular, before we start yelling at clouds about robot dogs, obscure applications of the laws of cricket involving Heinrich Klaasen's wicketkeeping gloves and we update our tournament winner predictions as the tournament passes the halfway mark. In this episode of the show, Binksy, Baldy, Raj and Stu look back at week 2 of IPL 2025 through a stock market lens. Who are we buying? Who are we selling? And what are we watching with our fingers poised ready to pounce in the coming weeks? We start on a positive note with praise for the Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals for their performances this week, as well as a shout out to the mega auction player reshuffle that has led to an unpredictable start to the 2025 edition of this tournament. As we move through the episode we hit on a number of other topics: Can DC keep up their good form? What's happened to Travis Head and the Sunrisers Hyderabad batting lineup? Are the Chennai Super Kings confused? And is MS Dhoni part of the problem? Is the impact player rule leading to fewer competitive games? Will the return of Jasprit Bumrah change the fortunes of the Mumbai Indians? Why isn't the fielding better? Is it time to reinvest in pace bowlers? And much more! Chris Woakes and Abhishek Jhunjhunwala join Mark Chapman to discuss the IPL – where does it stand right now? Hear from Australian, Aaron Hardie, as he talks about his experience of playing for Punjab Kings. They also discuss the lack of English involvement – only 10 English players will feature – the lowest since 2020. Jofra Archer has also had an eventful start for the Rajasthan Royals, having taken the first maiden of the tournament, but also scoring a record 76 in four overs. Following Eoin Morgan's comments on England's white-ball captaincy, could Ben Stokes take the role? Also, hear from Jonny Bairstow, new captain of Yorkshire as the County Championship returns. And Somerset's Will Smeed joins the podcast as he comes out of red ball retirement… at the age of 23!
The IPL is properly underway now, and it might be the beginning of Mumbai Indian's charge. They hammered KKR to finally notch a win, could things be looking up? We also cover MS Dhoni and CSK, in their loss versus Rajasthan Royals. And are Delhi Capitals a surprise package, as they overcame the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Well, RCB are on top of the IPL points table. Yes, after the first round of matches, the men from Bengaluru are sitting pretty. They delivered a stellar performance against defending champions KKR in the IPL 2025 opener. Early signs are promising for the perennial underachievers. Could 18 finally be their lucky number? Meanwhile, CSK, DC, and SRH kicked off their campaigns with strong performances, but Rajasthan Royals have been dismal in their first two outings. They hardly resemble a side coached by Rahul Dravid. KKR, on the other hand, bounced back emphatically with a dominant win in Guwahati after their opening-day defeat to RCB. What's with teams opting for secondary home venues? Does it truly work in their favour? And no discussion would be complete without sparing a thought for the bowlers. The IPL is becoming an all-out run-fest, leaving bowlers with nowhere to hide. What does the future hold for bowling in T20 cricket? In the latest episode of The Sledging Room, Akshay Ramesh, Saurabh Kumar, and Kingshuk Kusari break down the opening week of IPL 2025. Produced by Prateek Lidhoo Sound mix by Rohan Bharti
On our next team preview we cover the play-off contenders from last year's Indian Premier League. Starting with RCB who feature the legend Virat Kohli in a new look side for the 2025 IPL. Will this finally be the year for Royal Challengers Bengaluru? Rajasthan Royals are next. They made some big changes but retained Samason and Jaiswal, who are more than a match for anyone on their day. Sunrisers Hyderabad were one of the funnest teams to watch in last year's IPL and it looks like the smashing will continue. They have only added to a team which featured Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma and Heinrich Klaasen already. And Kolkata Knight Riders, last years winners, will go again. They went big in the auction for Venky Iyer, will that pay off with another trophy for Dre Russ, Narine and the lads. www.pitch-mag.co.uk/ - use code Pitch+CricketPod15 for 15% off your first order Links to podcast audio: https://linktr.ee/thecricketpod Our website: thecricketpod.com Support the podcast: patreon.com/thecricketpod Buy merchandise: https://seriouscricket.co.uk/teamwear/stores/the-cricket-podcast/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thecricketpod Buy coffee: https://cricketcoffeeco.com/products/the-cricket-podcast-coffee Twitter and Instagram: @thecricketpod Learn more about your ad choices. In this episode of the show, Binksy, Jamie, Baldy and Stu kick off the IPL 2025 coverage by previewing the fortunes of the Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals, Mumbai Indians and the Chennai Super Kings. We start with a Baldy explainer, and a quick chat about the impact of the mega auction, before moving straight into the team previews. We discuss what excites us about our chosen teams, whether that's particular players or team storylines, and whether they'll be in title contention come the business end of the tournament. First up is KKR, in which Binksy asks why they aren't favourites with the betting agencies, highlights the importance of Andre Russell and Sunil Narine again, as well as the talented Indian bowling core featuring the likes of Varun Chakravarthy, Harshit Rana and Vaibhav Arora. There's also a word on Ajinkya Rahane taking over as captain. Next is Sunrisers Hyderabad, in which Stu gets excited about songs, Abhishek Sharma, Nitish Kumar Reddy, the power-packed batting lineup and bowling reinforcements, before asking whether this team can go one better in 2025. For the Rajasthan Royals, the absence of Jos Buttler is the question on our minds. Without him and others, they look weaker and the betting agencies have written them off. But can Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal and co. make those odds look silly when the winners medals are handed out at the end of May? The Mumbai Indians are up fourth, and Baldy proceeds with caution when discussing their favouritism with the bookmakers. Will the star-studded batting lineup featuring Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya and friends deliver in 2025? Or will the absence of Jasprit Bumrah - for how long? - be too difficult to overcome with the ball in hand? To round out part one of our preview, Jamie takes a look at CSK, highlighting the plethora of options their allrounder-packed squad provides them. What role will Rachin Ravindra play? Will MS Dhoni continue his six-hitting exploits? And when the team does settle on a best XI, will it be strong enough to take them to the final? In the IPL Eliminator the dream of Virat Kohli and Rajasthan Royals died. Rajasthan Royals were too good on the night, as Trent Boult and Ashwin starred with the ball to limit Royal Challengers Bengaluru to a poor score. In response RCB were unable to take early wickets, and despite heroic fielding from Virat Kohli, Jaiswal and Parag helped steer Rajasthan Royals towards victory. There was a minor wobble, but the Royals were too good and they will move on to the IPL Qualifier Two. Four IPL games on our latest weekend reaction show. Earlier today Will Jacks smashed an amazing century for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, with Virat Kohli watching on in awe. Earlier in the weekend Rajasthan Royals beat Lucknow Super Giants, with Sanju Samson cashing in. And Delhi Capitals won AGAIN, as they all but eliminated Mumbai Indians from the tournament. Finally, Chennai Super Kings are taking on Sunrisers Hyderabad. Chennai posted a big score thanks to Ruturaj Gaikwad, but will it be enough to stop Heinrich Klaasen. Three games for us to react to on this IPL 2024 show. Jos Buttler caused mayhem yesterday as he helped Rajasthan Royals complete the record IPL chase against the Kolkata Knight Riders. A game which also featured Sunil Narine scoring a maiden century! On Monday there was even more carnage, as Royals Challengers Bengaluru allowed Sunrisers Hyderbad to break the IPL record score AGAIN. They hit 287, with Travis Head notching a ton to lead the charge there. Then finally Gujarat Titans played terribly and were bowled out for 89 by a Delhi Capitals side who are on the march! Three IPL games to talk about on this show. Rajasthan Royals play the Gujarat Titans today. Thanks to an assault from Riyan Parag and Sanju Samson the Royals managed a big score. Will Shubman Gill and the Titans be able to chaise it down? Yesterday Shashank nearly did it again, but fell a little short, as the rest of the Punjab Kings was unable to properly support him. Sunrisers were lucky to get a good score on the board, despite struggling with the bat, but are now in a great position to make a move on the IPL play-offs. On Monday Chennai Super Kings completed a formality over the Kolkata Knight Riders. Comfortable efficiency was the order of the day for CSK, with Ruturaj Gaikwad making his first big contribution of the year. A packed weekend in the IPL featured games between Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals, and Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans. In game one Virat Kohli and Jos Buttler traded 100s. Rajasthan eventually came out on top, and there are questions for RCB. Can anyone except Virat Kohli score any runs for them? This morning, Mumbai Indians finally won a match, as they beat Delhi Capitals easily. Romario Shepherd hit over 30 from the final over, bowled by Anrich Nortje. Is there any hope for Delhi, and is the beginning of a charge for Mumbai Indians. Then finally, Lucknow Super Giants have Yash Thakur. Thakur picked up 5 wickets to help LSG fight back against the Titans to set fire to their innings and set up a win. Want to create live streams like this?
