Jeremy Zakis explores the match-fixing scandal and gang influence threatening Canadian cricket's international status. He details how players potentially "sandbagged" games for gambling purposes. Finally, Jeremy discusses the recent resurgence of "Bazball" in an England-New Zealand match, highlighting the strategic impact of poorly maintained pitches.1928
The ICC suspended funding for Cricket Canada following allegations of corruption, match-fixing, and "Bishnoi mafia" influence. A specific match against New Zealand is currently under investigation. Additionally, England's "Bazball" era appears to be ending, signaled by the removal of opening batsman Zak Crawley from the team. (2/2)1928

An investigation into a T20 match between Canada and New Zealand has uncovered potential match-fixing tied to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. This "mafia-style" group is suspected of coercing selection boards to install specific players, like captain Dilpreet Bajwa, for financial gain. Jeremy Zakis explains that T20 games are easier to fix than five-day matches because results happen in a single day and poor performance is easier to disguise as a "bad day." Meanwhile, the English Cricket Board has made a strategic shift by hiring Australian Marcus North as a senior selector, signaling a potential end to the aggressive "Bazball" strategy. (3/4)1927
Ivestigating Allegations of Match-Fixing in T20 CricketGuest: Jeremy Zakis Summary: John Bachelor and Jeremy Zakis examine a potential match-fixing scandal involving a T20 cricket match between Canada and New Zealand from February 2026,. Allegations surfaced after Canada exhibited unusual bowling and batting styles, including a high rate of "no balls" that granted New Zealand easy runs. Zakis explains that the short format of T20 makes it easier to fix than a five-day match because the outcome is decided in a much smaller, more controllable window of time. While the investigation is ongoing to determine if the team's poor performance was legitimate or corrupt, a finding of guilt would represent the first time in cricket history that an entire side was found complicit in such a scheme,

In this special interview episode of The Huddle Breakdown, James and Alan are joined by Dr. David Forrest, Professor of Sports Economics at Liverpool University, to dive into the murky underworld of match-fixing and football corruption. Dr. Forrest breaks down the staggering scale of unregulated Asian betting markets, how criminal syndicates infiltrate clubs, and why an elite referee admitted it is "dead easy" to rig a game with just a single defensive mistake. The panel also debates the "extortion" of the American franchise cartel model, the unique vulnerabilities of leagues like the League of Ireland, and Alan unpacks the glaring statistical anomalies that suggest Scottish refereeing suffers from a deeply ingrained cultural bias rather than financial corruption.Want to support the channel? - https://huddlebreakdown.comLike this video and want more content like it? Have you ever considered that the sports you are watching are fixed? This episode ois appointment listening for Sports fans, sports gamblers and concerned parents, and an eye-opening story for anyone interested in how pervasive organized crime has woven into our society. My guest this week is Declan Hill, Oxford-educated and author of The Fix. Declan is world-renowned as an investigative journalist who has infiltrated organized crime fixing rings to understand how the world of sports fixing actually works and why the extensive marketing efforts to encourage more people to gamble on sports have added more fuel to the fire. Sports thrive on uncertainty. The drama, the underdog, the last-second miracle, the feeling that nobody knows what comes next. But what happens when that uncertainty gets hijacked — when outcomes are fixed not just in final scores, but in moments you barely notice? In this interview, we dig into match-fixing and spot-fixing, prop bets and micro-bets, and why Declan believes a major American sports league is heading toward an existential crisis within five years. We also talk about how that 'casino in your pocket' is affecting athletes, fans, and young people's psychology. What happens when you move from playing with fun money to your house money, or worse, when gambling becomes an addiction equal to tobacco, alcohol or heroin? Sports fans, sports gamblers, concerned parents and friends and true crime followers, Declan Hill will not disappoint. Declan Hill is an investigative academic and journalist. He specializes in the study of organized crime and international issues. He was the first journalist to break the story of Asian match-fixing gangs linked to the multi-billion dollar gambling markets destroying international football in his book 'The Fix: Soccer & Organized Crime'. It has now become a best-seller in 21 languages. In 2013, he published the academic version 'The Insider's Guide to Match-Fixing' which is now available in English and Japanese.: https://www.declanhill.com If you are concerned about sports gambling, Declan encourages you to visit: https://www.gamblingwithlives.org

Disgraced former New Zealand cricket star Lou Vincent has spoken out on the tolls of match fixing. Over a decade ago, Vincent was banned for life for his involvement in attempting to manipulate cricket matches overseas, including in England, South Africa, India and Bangladesh. His ban was later relaxed in December 2023, as it was believed he demonstrated sufficient levels of contrition and remorse. New Zealand's national football league has attracted the attention of offshore gamblers, raising alarm among sport integrity experts. New data shows $212 million was wagered on the New Zealand men's domestic football league in 2024 through overseas sports betting platforms, many of which were based in Asia. Andrew Scott-Howman, general counsel for the New Zealand Professional Footballers Association, says our timezone allows us to be a monopoly provider of live product to these markets. "But also, the amateur nature of our competition - our players and our match officials, our referees don't get paid for playing. Therefore, they can be much easier to bribe or convince to do the wrong thing. That's also a problem." LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this episode of iGaming Daily, brought to you by Optimove, the team dive headfirst into the world of Brazil's regulated iGaming and sports betting market. Despite being just seven months old, the sector has already weathered a storm's worth of controversy, upheaval, and legal intrigue, enough to make it feel like seven years have passed. Join hosts Fernando Noodt, Ricardo Assis, and Ana Maria Menezes as they break down the latest twists and turns, from headline-grabbing investigations to regulatory chaos that's shaping the future of betting in Brazil. The team unpack the ongoing criminal probe into Esportes da Sorte, accused of facilitating illegal gambling and laundering a staggering R$3bn (roughly $600m). The investigation has sparked heated debate over judicial integrity, with growing criticism of the presiding judge's actions. Meanwhile, the match-fixing epidemic in Brazilian football takes center stage, with high-profile players like Lucas Paquetá (recently cleared) and Bruno Henrique (still facing indictment) caught in a justice system that appears to treat players differently based on fame and income. The episode closes with one of the most bizarre developments to date: a reported plan by disgraced footballer Robinho and hacker Walter Delgatti Neto, infamous for the “Vaza Jato” leaks, to launch a betting operation from behind bars.Host: Fernando NoodtGuests: Ricardo Assis & Ana Maria MenezesProducer: Anaya McDonaldEditor: James RossiGaming Daily is also now on TikTok. In this episode of iGaming Daily, brought to you by Optimove, host Damian Martinez sits down with Ricardo Assis, Editor of SBC Noticias Brazil and Lucia Gando, Editor of SBC Noticias, as the three zero in on Brazil's recent regulatory overhaul, where the government has increased the Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) tax rate from 12% to 18%. This controversial measure, championed by Finance Minister Fernando Haddad, aims to plug the country's fiscal gap but has ignited industry-wide resistance and political backlash from lawmakers determined to curb unsustainable public spending. The episode also shines a spotlight on the growing tension between Brazil's legal and illegal betting markets. With six major gaming associations warning that higher taxes may drive operators underground, the stakes are high. A revealing study shows that up to 51% of the Brazilian market remains unregulated, with 73% of players expected to gamble on illegal sites in 2025—costing the government billions in lost revenue. This paradox—where efforts to regulate and tax the industry may inadvertently fuel black-market growth—is central to the podcast's timely and critical analysis.Expanding beyond Brazil, the conversation covers regulatory milestones in Peru and Paraguay that are shaping the future of LatAm sports betting. Peru's move to criminalize match-fixing and ease tax burdens on operators signals progress toward a fairer, safer market, while Paraguay's push to dismantle its state monopoly promises new licensing opportunities and increased tax revenue.
