But some parts were not as heavy as anticipated, and the biggest influence might have been down to the spinners like Akeal Hosein and Adil Rashid, before Phil Salt and Jonny Bairstow took the spotlight. Dressed by our mates @BudgySmuggler We're back with Budgy Smuggler to pump up their new underwear campaign. Australia's Most Ordinary Rig Josh Clutterbuck and the NRL's Hottest player Herbie Farnworth front the campaign for Australia's most comfortable underwear. The code GRADE has been set up for a tasty 23% off our underwear and apparel and is valid until the end of June. Bradman's house is for sale, cricket's on Amazon, the World Cup's in America (partly), Jimmy Anderson is going to stop playing and Jimmy Bartel's on the show. Fair to say the game's changing. TGC's back for a run during the World Cup, so we start by discharging our takes on weeks-old news. Things like hosting a bucks at Bradman's childhood home, disgraceful news-breaking around Jimmy's retirement, and questioning why the Aussies are still talking about Bairstow. The IPL has finished – absolutely gutted. Zampa says he gets a bigger buzz from international cricket. Another disgrace. Dizzy says grade cricket in SA is selfish. Very out-of-touch. Triple premiership player Jimmy Bartel joins the show: he wants to talk cricket, we want to talk Harley Reid. ESPN Cricinfo's Alex Malcolm then balances matters with high-level insight into the World Cup. He talks structuring and match-ups, we talk tunnels and testicles. It's a (Stuart) Broad church, and it knows what it's doing. Great to be back. two IPL 2024 games to talk about on this episode of The Cricket Podcast. First up we talk about Royal Challengers Bengaluru finally winning a match, as they beat Sunrisers Hyderabad to snap a long losing streak. Will it be too little too late for Virat Kohli and RCB? And today, KKR went massive, smashing 260+ runs v Punjab Kings. Will that be enough for the Kolkata Knight Riders, to take them into a great position to make the IPL play-offs. However, Punjab Kings had other ideas, as they orchestrated the greatest chase in T20 cricket, with Bairstow and Shashank leading the charge. This week, Bits and Pieces goes deep into contract law and HR practices, and quite fittingly, we do this without the lawyer or the HR professional in our gang joining the pod. Our group randomly sympathises with Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer, randomly ridicules the Dharamsala 100th Test darlings Ashwin and Bairstow. And somehow foretells Shardul Bedex Thakur's incredible Ranji semifinal performance. Yas Rana and Phil Walker reflect on a thrilling first day in Ranchi, headlined by Joe Root's 31st Test century. Akash Deep made an immediate impression on debut, dismissing England's top three in a stunning new ball burst, before Bairstow and Stokes both fell to spin to leave England 112-5 at lunch. The afternoon belonged to Root though, who knuckled down and cleverly crafted one of the best centuries of his glittering Test career in tricky conditions. Ben Foakes played brilliantly at the other end for his 47, while Tom Hartley and Ollie Robinson also offered important resistance. Welcome back to the Bishop and Bear – the internet's favourite virtual cricket pub (probably). Well, it was a right old battering for England in Rajkot. The young Jazz Whale played all the right notes in exactly the right order and there were way too many bum notes from England against Bumrah and co. The Yorkshire middle order of Root and Bairstow looks under pressure and out of sorts. Can they battle their way back into some form in Ranchi? Ben Stokes thinks the pitch there looks “interesting very interesting” to appropriate the words of the great Barry Davies. Our guest this week is the ever-erudite Forthy, who joins your ursine landlord and episcopal barman to ask and attempt to answer some of the questions vexing England's management. If indeed they ever do get vexed, which at least to external eyes they seem not too. We also celebrate the power of Indian run scoring and dig a bit behind Jay Shah's comments that Indian players shouldn't prioritise the IPL over domestic cricket. Here is a rough idea of the topics we chat and drink our way through: Bazball out Bazzed in Rajkot What do we expect in Ranchi? Strong Yorkshire Strong England – what's in the heads of Root and Bairstow? “BCCI says don't prioritise IPL over domestic cricket” – sorry what??!! Umpires Call – is it the blind the leading the blind? (Sorry Joel!) Settle in, enjoy your drink and do please get in touch and let us know what you think. Cheers! In this episode of the show, Binksy, Stu and Baldy look ahead to the five-test series between India and England, which starts on 25 Jan and takes us right through to March. We open the show by discussing how much has changed since the previous series between these two sides in India in 2021, when a struggling England side won the first Test convincingly, before the hosts bounced back in a big way to secure the Anthony de Mello Trophy. We analyse the squads and the biggest selection questions - Bairstow or Foakes? Bharat or KL Rahul? - plus outline the key battles that could determine the series. Can Joe Root improve his already impressive numbers in India? Will Axar Patel destroy England once again? How will Rohit Sharma react to Bazball?[Note: This was recorded before the news broke that Harry Brook and Virat Kohli would miss at least part of the series for personal reasons]Finally, in true Top Order Podcast fashion, we make our predictions for the series result and individual performances. We'll be back again next week with more news and views, but until then please take the time to give us a like, follow, share or subscribe on all our channels (@toporderpod on Twitter & Facebook, and @thetoporderpodcast on Instagram & YouTube) and a (5-Star!) review at your favourite podcast provider, or tell a friend to download.
