The Counter Momentum of Spin, with Dr. Franco Musio – It is driven by an “imperial” ambition to re-establish Russian primacy over the world and alter the post-Cold War European American security order. The Russia-Ukraine War is therefore conceptualized by Putin as one of ideology, not only territory, but principally gaining political control over Ukraine and an existential struggle for Russia's reintroduction to...
There appears to be some progress toward an end to the Russia-Ukraine war after months of start-and-stop talks between President Donald Trump and top-level negotiators. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll is reportedly traveling to Ukraine today with two high-ranking military officials for urgent talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, armed with the early stages of a plan to bring the conflict to a resolution. Nvidia (NVDA) is showing a "pretty decent set-up" heading into its earnings report, says Kevin Green. He will focus on data center revenue and how hyperscaler CapEx spend factors into guidance. On the general semiconductor space, KG shows how Nvidia's report can break support or shatter resistance in a channel the group formed. In commodities, he notes the downside pressure crude oil can face if the Russia-Ukraine War comes to a close before 2026. As for Oklo Inc. (OKLO), KG explains how a deal with Siemens Energy can power a stock rebound. ======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day. On today's episode we explore the role of the historical Ukrainian far-right, specifically the Nazi-collaborationist Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, in the development of post-Soviet Ukraine's national memory regime. In particular we address a paradox - how did these far right political formations and their historical narratives, despite limited and regionally specific popularity, assume disproportionate influence on Ukraine's post-Soviet national-memory regime since 1991? What role did the far right nationalist diaspora play? And how do the Russia-Ukraine War as well as the broader normalization of ethno-nationalism in politics and academia reinforce far right memory politics? Our guest today is historian Per Rudling. As a basis for discussion we read his recent article“Repatriating An Edifying Past: The Diaspora Ukrainian Authoritarian Right and Power Over Memory, 1991–2021”Article description:The recent history of the Ukrainian authoritarian far right is one of paradoxes. If one looks at the polls, it has performed poorly; its modest successes have been regional and short-lived. On the other hand, it has been highly successful in terms of shaping memory politics in the country. It has had a disproportional influence on history writing, having invested significant efforts into building an effective structure in the field of memory management. Radical nationalists have also come to staff senior positions as deans and vice chancellors at Ukraine's top universities, the ministry of education, the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory (UINP), and the archives of the Ukrainian Security Service (HDA SBU). The hard right has gained a disproportionate influence on “soft issues” of identity and the shaping of “national memory” – not only by running the governmental memory institutes, but also by hands-on drafting of memory laws outlawing “disrespect” for the OUN, the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), and other historical far-right groups. This study seeks to trace and contextualize the repatriation of the ethnonationalist hard right from emigration and its role in shaping an infrastructure of memory production – in particular, under presidents Yushchenko (2005–2010) and Poroshenko (2014–2019).Per Rudling is associate professor of History at Lund University and author of Tarnished Heroes: The Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists in the Memory Politics of Post-Soviet Ukraine (2024) and The Rise and Fall of Belarusian Nationalism 1906-1931 (2014)

The United States and China have declared a truce in the trade war launched by US President Donald Trump in April, argues Evan Medeiros, former US National Security Council director for China. Medeiros tells host Steve Clemons that the deal reached between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Trump resolves the urgent trade issues between the two sides - tariff rates, soya beans and rare earth minerals - but China “remains committed to ensuring that Russia doesn't lose” in Ukraine. The US has more than 200,000 soldiers surrounding China, Medeiros adds, but Washington knows that “nobody wants to choose between the US and China.”
For the first time since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, a NATO member has formally invoked Article 4 of the alliance's founding treaty after a major airspace breach. Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna tells Talk to Al Jazeera why repeated Russian provocations are more than isolated incidents - they're a test of NATO's credibility. As United States President Donald Trump questions the value of collective defence, Tsahkna warns that Europe's security consensus is fraying and hesitation could invite danger.
Dr. Jerome Corsi unpacks his latest article in American Thinker — where he argues that President Donald Trump holds the power to force a decisive end to the Ukraine-Russia war by shifting America's stance and leveraging diplomatic pressure.
Plans for a second Trump-Putin meeting to discuss the Ukraine war have been shelved, days after they were proposed. Last week, Trump said he and the Russian president would hold talks in Budapest to discuss the war in Ukraine. Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine has now passed the three-and-a-half-year mark, and there is still no end in sight. The Trump administration's recent push to negotiate a ceasefire ground to a halt in early September, after Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelensky rejected Vladimir Putin's proposal to meet in Moscow, dismissing the invitation as a sign that his Russian counterpart has no desire to negotiate. Meanwhile, on the battlefield in Ukraine, Russian troops are continuing their offensive in central Donbas. While Ukrainian forces have succeeded in slowing their advance, this has come at the cost of Kyiv's defenses elsewhere, creating vulnerable gaps between frontline positions that Russian forces can slip through. With the front line becoming increasingly fluid and peace talks stalled, Russia has also continued to launch deadly missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian cities, targeting the country's energy grid ahead of the approaching winter months. By all appearances, Putin believes that if Russia's military keeps pushing forward, it will eventually outlast and overpower Ukraine. But how much longer can the Kremlin sustain its war machine? In a new report for the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), senior fellow Maria Snegovaya and Europe, Russia, and Eurasia program director Max Bergmann break down the mounting costs of Russia's war effort and outline four plausible scenarios for the war's next chapter. Dr. Maria Snegovaya joins this episode of The Naked Pravda to discuss their analysis. Time stamps for this episode: (2:05) The current state of the Russia–Ukraine war(4:49) Russia's war strategy and unchanging goals(8:03) How sustainable is this war for the Kremlin?(13:12) How Russia is replenishing its military losses(17:30) Potential scenarios for the war's future(26:55) Strategies for Ukraine and Western alliesКак поддержать нашу редакцию — даже если вы в России и вам очень страшно
Charlie Kirk was an excellent debater who sought out conversations with his opponents to test the veracity of their ideas. His death is an incredible tragedy that underscores the problems in our society. Two years after the October 7th massacre Hamas is on their last leg. President Trump proposed a ceasefire, but Hamas has rejected it. How best to argue in Israel's favor with your friends and family? President Trump has shifted his view of the Russia-Ukraine War. In the increasingly black and white world of the Axis and Allies we must adapt to the new circumstances.
In mid-September, in Lviv, Ukraine, the second annual Defense Tech Summit was held with representatives from over 50 countries in attendance. A policy shift from the Trump administration in support of Ukraine signals new focus on ending the Russia-Ukraine War that is now approaching four years. The two-year war continues between Israel and Hamas in Gaza without progress toward a ceasefire. Oh, and now, the US government is in shutdown mode as of October 1. Host Ken Miller sits down with journalist, author, and expert Col. Jeffrey Fischer, USAF (Ret) to discuss all these topics and more in this episode of From the Crows' Nest. Ken and Jeff discuss the chaotic global security environment on the eve of the US government shutdown and how need to change our thinking and priorities to effectively resolve tensions around the world. For years, Americans questioned the Biden Administration's reckless spending in Ukraine, funneling more than $177 billion in taxpayer money into a war that Ukraine is losing. The corruption is undeniable — with Biden and his son's controversial business dealings tied directly to Ukraine's government. But one question remains:
In this week's episode of China Insider, Miles Yu provides a summary of Xi Jinping's recent trip to Xinjiang to commemorate the seventieth anniversary of the region's founding, and the significance of this visit in contrast to Beijing's ongoing persecution of the Uyghur people. Next, Miles unpacks the latest developments within the CCP's influence operations and misinformation campaigns against Taiwan that aim to provoke instability and conflict between the DPP led executive and KMT controlled Legislative Yuan. Finally, Miles reviews President Trump's recent statements at the UN General Assembly regarding the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and what this could mean for China and their perceived role in the conflict. China Insider is a weekly podcast project from Hudson Institute's China Center, hosted by China Center Director and Senior Fellow, Dr. Miles Yu, who provides weekly news that mainstream American outlets often miss, as well as in-depth commentary and analysis on the China challenge and the free world's future.
The war in Ukraine has entered a dangerous new phase, with Russia sending bigger, more powerful drone attacks across the border nearly every day. Gone are the tanks, columns of troops, and heavy artillery from the early days of Moscow's full-scale invasion. Now, tens of thousands of drones swarm Ukraine's skies at any given moment. Christopher Miller, chief Ukraine correspondent at the Financial Times, joins Ian Bremmer on the GZERO World Podcast to discuss the war's evolution from a conventional land invasion into a high-tech war of attrition dominated by drones. Artificial intelligence, drones, all types of unmanned vehicles are being used to wage war alongside traditional tanks and artillery. Civilians in Ukraine's cities are under constant threat from aerial attacks, sheltering in subways and bomb shelters every night. Despite immense resilience, Ukraine's people are getting exhausted and the country is running out of manpower. How long can Ukraine hold out? Another week has gone by. We are now nearly at the end of September and firmly in the post summer, pre-winter “shoulder months” period for refinery runs that in prior periods of weak balances has seen crude soften. At least through the September 24th recording date of this video, crude oil prices are hanging in there around the mid-$60s.This week we check-in on where traditional energy stands in terms of growth and profitability, which are the drivers of absolute and relative equity performance. As we have previously noted, the biggest challenge the sector faces is not unfavorable narratives from leading macro agencies or environmental activists, but a now nearly 2-year period of EPS underperformance and a softening in profitability metrics. Our two key messages this week are (1) we believe we are now much closer to the trough of what we think has been a 2-2.5-year mini-downcycle following peak oil prices seen immediately after the start of the Russia-Ukraine War in 2022. and (2) As a result of where current profitability is and where we think it is headed in coming years, Energy should close the gap between its current discounted 3% market cap weighting in favor of its 5% earnings weighting in the S&P 500.It remains our view that 2020 marked the bottom of a structural downcycle that began in 2008 and that 2025 will ultimately prove to be year 5 of a structurally better period for profitability that we expect to last through at least the end of this decade. We reiterate our long-standing call that the energy sector will return to a market cap weighting in the S&P 500 closer to its historic 8%-10% range.

Donald Trump has had as bad a week as any he's had. The difference that made it stand out was that he looks increasingly unhinged. It was not the UN speech. That was classic Trump – a lot of made-up stuff and grandiose pomposity. It sort of wasn't the visas, given at its core it's also classic Trump. They want Americans hired, not immigrants, which is on brand. Chaotic, but on brand. It wasn't even Jimmy Kimmel. Celebrating the demise of someone is a sad trait but, once again, on brand, even though Kimmel is back and Trump's stance on free speech looks decidedly mad or non-existent. The real turn of events was the war and Tylenol. For a bloke who was sorting Putin out on day one, and who told Zelenskyy he didn't have any cards, the about-face seems astonishing, if not worrying. The pivot hands the problem to NATO and the EU, but what was he thinking taking it on in the first place? Putin has schooled him, spanked him, and humiliated him. He has that, as yet, unexplained hold over him that no one can understand. Then we come to autism. In watching the heavily touted announcement, the one we had been waiting for for 20 years, he didn't seem to have a clue as to what he was talking about. The Amish were raised, the ingredient was mispronounced and stumbled over, and as a result pretty much anyone in health globally called it a pile of nonsensical rubbish. The basis of Trumpism is making America great again – there are too many migrants, too many bad trade deals, and an economy that isn't performing up to scratch. All of that is understandable and it's what got the votes. Yes, there was a chaotic, comedic, braggadocios style to it all. But at its base, if you were of a certain disposition, it kind of made sense, and you can't argue against the electoral success. But as the months have unfolded, it's gotten madder and more unhinged and wandered off into areas of extreme improvisation. It all culminated this week in complete humiliation over the war and a pronouncement in an area, i.e. health, that he clearly has zero experience and expertise in, and clearly has listened too much to his nutty friend with the odd voice. Disagreeing with his policy approach is politics, but being seen as a global clown undermines his reputation and that of the entire country. And that's where he took it this week. Trump stunned the world with a sharp reversal on the Russia–Ukraine war, backing Kyiv's full victory while blasting NATO and torching the UN as corrupt and useless.
