Industry and the US federal government have long worked in tandem to sideline climate concerns and continue to promote Earth-warming fossil fuels. Now the US House Oversight and Reform Committee has summoned top executives from Exxon, Shell, BP and Chevron and two affiliated lobbying groups to testify in front of a committee hearing in October, as part of an ongoing investigation into the fossil fuel industry's promotion of climate disinformation. Also, for the past 50 years, the US government has known about the problem of climate change but has continued to promote fossil fuel development and done little to avert a crisis. Longtime environmental leader Gus Speth joins us to discuss his new book “They Knew.” And a recent study found that three-quarters of young people surveyed believe the future is frightening because of climate change. What young people are expressing about their eco-anxiety and how parents can safely talk to their kids about climate. Join us on October 5 for our next Living on Earth Book Club event! “Guardians of the Trees” author Dr. Kinari Webb will join Steve Curwood and Bobby Bascomb to talk about healing the world's rainforests and the communities who depend on them. The town of Bridgeport Connecticut is an eastern seaport town that boasts a population of 144,900. P. T. Barnum founder of the Barnum and Bailey Circus took up residence there and was even mayor for a year. The Frisbee Pie Company was in Bridgeport making the town the default origin of the Frisbee. Also, the first Subway opened its doors in 1965. Five dollar footlongs and gravity-defying toys were not the only firsts to come from Bridgeport Connecticut. Complacency and Deception Today – Tom Donnan pt 2 (https://kcrpodcast.com/captivate-podcast/episode-456-one-door-us-tom-donnan-pt-1/donnan-tom/) It is no secret that the Founding Fathers of this nation were Christian through and through. There have been reports lately that try to disprove that. But if you look at the personal letters they wrote (which have survived) and the public letters and speeches they wrote – they are filled with scripture references! Not scripture references like you hear some people today quote. You know, when they try to quote the Bible to make a point. They are attempting to “wow” you that they know a scripture or two, so you should vote for them. No, our Founders knew the Bible better than any Masters of Theology professor today! Remember, this was before radio and tv. So many of them would spend the early mornings and the late evenings reading the Bible! Some made a habit of reading the Bible completely through, three or four times in one year! They KNEW the scriptures! They would lace scriptural references throughout their writings, in examples and just plain talk. Some speeches contained as much as 75% scripture references! You never see any politician do that today! But they did not have to say, “As the Bible says in “such and such” scripture…” No. The people of that day knew the Bible’s also! So when these leaders would simply talk and reference the scripture in their messages, the people knew what they were talking about! Well, it’s not like that today. Even life long church members do not know how to find scripture in the Bible anymore! That is why almost all the churches post the scriptures on the big screen in the sanctuary! You rarely hear a preacher today say, “Turn in your Bibles to such and such and read with me…” Because the people are to Biblical illiterate to understand what that means! But, these are all signs of the end times as detailed in the Bible. The Bible is very clear about the “falling away” that will take place today…I mean in the last days…which we are in TODAY. To help us talk about this situation and to offer the ONLY solution to this problem, is our good friend, Tom Donnan. Now, if you have been listening to us in our past interviews, you know as well as I do, that we have no clue where the Lord is going to lead this conversation! Praise God! We just kind of “flow with the Spirit” when Tom is here! Amen! But one of the main cultural changes that has happened is the liberal progressives want to keep Christianity “boxed up” within the confines of the church. Right? There have been pockets of the “manifestation of God” in various places around this nation. Most denominational churches just brush it off as emotionalism and other such things. But I know I’ve been in a few services while traveling around where the presence of God was so thick, it was like a heavy fog in the room. But it wasn’t fog or smoke or anything like that. And to this day, I’ve never experienced anything like that in almost 20 year now. Do you know what I’m talking about? In the service I’m talking about, there were people healed. There were many that went rushing to the platform to receive Jesus – even without an altar call. Have you experienced or heard of anything like that? And there are pastors that have never, ever experienced the presence of God like that! You have a couple of examples where you have had a few pastors experience these things. Would you share those with our listeners? Folks, you know what Tom and I are talking about is true. It has to be true. It’s in the Bible. You may not understand it. You may not WANT to believe it. But that does not change facts! For example, you may not have thought you were driving 70 mph in a 45 mph zone. But when the police officer pulls you over and hands you the citation, you still may not believe it. So, you go to court. You tell the judge you do not believe it. The judge then asks...

We just kind of “flow with the Spirit” when Tom is here! Amen! Help me welcome to the program, Tom Donnan! Tom, thanks for coming back on the program today! Alright, let’s go ahead and grab the bull by the horns…I’m fired up about this topic today, as you can probably tell. Let’s start this right off and talk about COMPLANCEY in the church today! The Book of Daniel talks about this, right? And something that a lot of American’s do not realize – even a lot of preachers do not want to admit – that America IS NOT listed as one of the influential nations in the end times. How can that be? Are we described in the Book of Revelation, in the letter to the Laodiceans’ as a “luke warm” church? You travel a lot. Have you noticed the differences in the culture just off the shores of America? Say in the Caribbean nations? You’d think being that close to the blessed nation of the USA that their culture and standard of living would be a lot better than it is. Why do you think that exists? Carter G. Woodson, the Father Of Black History Month “If you can control a man’s thinking, you don’t have to worry about his actions. If you can determine what a man thinks you do not have to worry about what he will do. If you can make a man believe that he is inferior, you don’t have to compel him to seek an inferior status, he will do so without being told" In earlier episodes of Daggers Of The Mind, you have heard me say that what you think determines the decisions you make, and the actions you take. There is a simple explanation for this. If you think you can, you will give it your best, but if you don't think you can, you won't even try. That is very telling for specific situations, but what if a person feels inferior to those around them in general? How would this affect how a person behaves? Don Shula said: "The superior man blames himself. The inferior man blames others." Failure is something that takes fortitude to accept. People who consider themselves inferior are in a weakened position, and there is a desperation to prove, first to themselves and then to others, that it simply wasn't their fault. That is when the whining begins. It is incredibly easy to spot people with inferiority complexes, they are constantly whining and blaming others for their own mistakes. Alternatively, when a person feels the equal of all those around them, it is easy to see when they messed up, and they are quick to admit it without fear. Why is this? It's simple, really. Literally everyone messes up regularly, and it isn't that big a deal if you did your best. The only people it really bothers are the aforementioned desperately inferior ones. Of course, the inferior ones didn't do their best to start with, totally sure they couldn't measure up. An illustration if you will. Have you ever been driving behind someone in town, and every time they approach a green light, they begin to start slowing down a half a block away, just sure that the light is going to turn red to stop them. This self imposed failure is completely prophetic since they probably will get stopped by the light since their belief dictated their actions. They KNEW it would catch them, so they slowed down to get ready for it, thus MAKING it catch them. You are the equal of everyone around you. If you believe it, your behavior will induce others to believe it as well. The reverse is also true. If you don't believe in your own equality, others will sense this, and their behavior will change accordingly. Which person would you rather be? A final quote by Hank Aaron: "I never doubted my ability, but when you hear all your life you're inferior, it makes you wonder if the other guys have something you've never seen before. If they do, I'm still looking for it." Carter G. Woodson on Wikipedia http://www.woodsonmuseum.org/about-us http://www.nps.gov/cawo/index.htm National Park Service, Carter G. Woodson Home ------------------------------------ Alan Alda, Actor "Listening is being able to be changed by the other person." Yeah, I know we SAY we listen, but is it possible we are just hearing, but not really listening? Hearing means sound is going by and being intercepted by our outer ear, being processed by the inner ear, and being interpreted by the brain to let you know what is being said. What you do with that info determines whether you are actually listening. Larry King "I remind myself every morning: Nothing I say this day will teach me anything. So if I am going to learn, I must do it by listening." There is so much to learn from listening, but what or who do you listen to? Listening to new ideas is great and actually necessary, but there comes a time in every conversation where you must decide if what you are listening to is a good idea to continue. At work we can get into some really cool philosophical conversations, and I am constantly given information on the subjects that I had never thought of myself, and it gives me major food for thought. As Alan Alda says, I am open, and it actually changes me. This being said, when would be a good time to stop listening and tune it out? If you do this too fast you can miss out on a lot. Many miss out simply because of who is talking. Since many teens just know that an adult, especially the parents aren't going to say anything useful, they tune them out categorically. I know many older people who do the same to teens since they haven't learned anything yet. Neither of these things are true, and as I've said before on Daggers Of The Mind, every one you meet knows something you don't. Ok, here is a situation when I tune the conversation out. There are times when the content of the conversation grieves me so much I just don't want to listen anymore. There are people I know who drop 4 f-bombs in every 10 words. There, I said it. By adding suffixes to them, every form of speech can be substituted in, and you have a major all purpose word there. I remember asking my dad about this when I was young, when I was first exposed to a lot of cussing in a new school and he, with a straight face said, "It's because they don't have a very big vocabulary." I resolved at that young age, that I was never going to be caught with such a small vocabulary I would be forced to use the same word over and over in a sentence. So far, so good. This doesn't mean that everyone who spices their words with constant profanity are stupid. Many times a person will talk to me in a perfectly normal and intelligent conversation, and when the cusser shows up, it's off to the races. The official bottom line: Your first reaction should be to listen. Really listen. Once the content is established, you have a decision to make. Most of the time you will benefit quite a lot, and maybe even help others by continuing the conversation. Sometimes, it's time to get out of Dodge. It is your decision, and yours alone how much you are willing to be changed by others. Make the right choice.
