Accent of Women broadcasts a speech by Angela Davis from 2013 – 10 years ago. This talk is called Justice for Palestine and the Stop G4S campaign. I broadcast this speech, at this point in time, to remind us all that this current bombardment did not start on October 7 and did not start with Hamas' defensive attack on Israel. This speech was given in memorium of Nelson Mandela's death only a few weeks earlier, and Angela Davis here draws the links between South African and Israeli Apartheid.

Read the transcript of this podcast: https://therealnews.comSince October 7th, student activists on campuses across the country have been organizing rallies against Israeli apartheid and vigils for the thousands of Palestinians who have been killed by Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip. Activists at Dartmouth College are among those groups, organizing a sustained vigil outside Dartmouth's administration building, Parkhurst Hall. Days into the continuous vigil, student organizers released The Dartmouth New Deal, a document that outlined a progressive vision for the college and included explicit demands that Dartmouth divest itself from the military-industrial complex that enables Israeli Apartheid. Hours after the document was released, two student organizers were arrested in a tent outside of Parkhurst Hall for trespassing. The arrested students, Kevin Engel and Roan Wade, speak with The Real News about pro-Palestine activism at Dartmouth, the administration's efforts to repress them, and student organizers' vision to transform the university's relationship to militarism.Help us continue producing radically independent news and in-depth analysis by following us and becoming a monthly sustainer: Donate: https://therealnews.com/donate-podSign up for our newsletter: https://therealnews.com/newsletter-podLike us on Facebook: https://facebook.com/therealnewsFollow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/therealnews

In 1999, South African anti-apartheid activist and revolutionary leader Nelson Mandela visited Gaza and said, "We know too well our freedom is not complete without the freedom of the Palestinians."Since his death in 2013, Mandela's unifying message of decolonization reverberated across the globe. The anti-colonial, anti-apartheid struggle that he led to end racial segregation and transform South Africa into a democratic nation has been lauded by Palestinians, who have drawn parallels between Israeli occupation and apartheid to the situation that Black South Africans faced.Joining Mnar Adley for this week's MintCast interview to discuss the struggle against Apartheid and the continued struggle against colonialism is Nkosi "Mandla" Mandela, who, since 2009, has been a member of the South African parliament for the African National Congress Party. He is also the grandson of Nelson Mandela. On Wednesday, South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Naledi Pandor called on the International Criminal Court to issue arrest warrants for Israeli leaders responsible for Operation Shield and Arrow, last weekend's series of airstrikes against the Gaza Strip.Over 20 Palestinians have been killed so far since Israel began bombing the world's largest open air prison. Entire families were killed in their sleep, including children, and several neighborhoods flattened to rubble, leaving many communities homeless. As the world witnesses yet another massacre committed by the apartheid state, South Africa and other African nations are rising in the fight against Israel's occupation of Palestine.Earlier this year, the African Union asked its member states to cut scientific, cultural and even some economic ties with Israel until it reverses its colonial practices against Palestine.Nkosi Mandela has been one of the world's most outspoken voices against Israeli apartheid and in support of Palestinian liberation. Clearing the FOG with co-hosts Margaret Flowers and Kevin Zeese
In 1917, the British government issued the Balfour Declaration, a statement of support for a Jewish State in Palestine. The United Kingdom has been a key ally of the Israeli Apartheid State since its inception. Palestinian rights activists in the UK, recognizing this reality, decided that direct action against entities that support apartheid would be the most effective strategy. Clearing the FOG speaks with Richard, a co-founder of Palestine Action, about the successes they have had over the past three years in their campaign targeting Elbit, an Israeli weapons maker, from forcing factories to close to creating a liability for the government that led to the cancellation of contracts. On May 1, Palestine Action will begin its first public action, the occupation of a factory in Leicester. Their intent is to stay until Elbit leaves. For more information, visit PopularResistance.org.

Mondoweiss has been covering the “No Tech for Apartheid” movement for over a year now. In October 2021 hundreds of workers at Google and Amazon published an open letter in The Guardian condemning Project Nimbus, a billion dollar contract between the two tech companies and the Israeli government. The deal helps provide cloud services to the Israeli Defense Forces. The letter reads: “We cannot look the other way, as the products we build are used to deny Palestinians their basic rights, force Palestinians out of their homes and attack Palestinians in the Gaza Strip – actions that have prompted war crime investigations by the international criminal court.” A lot has happened since that letter ran, as the No Tech for Apartheid movement has continued to grow. Our U.S. correspondent Michael Arria checked in with two organizers to talk about its current state and what might come next. Ariel Koren is an activist and was formerly a product marketing manager at Google for Education. Earlier this year Koren was forced out of her job after facing retaliation from the company over her activism. Bathool Syed is an activist and content strategist at Amazon. On COI #274, Kyle Anzalone and Connor Freeman cover Tel Aviv's murder of an internationally renowned journalist in the occupied West Bank as well as the latest Iran deal news. Kyle breaks down the Israeli occupation forces' brutal killing of Al Jazeera's Shireen Abu Akleh during a raid on the Jenin refugee camp. Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and his apartheid regime attempted to blame the shooting on Palestinian gunmen, this absurd claim was immediately debunked by Israel's top human rights organization. The bullet that was lodged in Abu Akleh's brain was of a type used by the Israeli military. Washington has predictably issued cheap, tepid condolences and has expressed support for an investigation that is to be partly led by Tel Aviv. The reaction to the murder highlights the U.S. government's double standards and the mainstream press' rank hypocrisy. Connor discusses a hawkish Senate motion passed by a bipartisan majority that, though non-binding, sends a powerful message to the Joe Biden administration and Tehran that any attempted return to the deal will face insurmountable opposition. The supporters of the motion advocate for the much of the same “longer and stronger” measures the Trump administration demanded previously including putting Iran's ballistic missiles on the table and refusing to lift the IRGC's Foreign Terrorist Organization designation. There is growing anti-Iran deal sentiment even among members of Biden's own party. This episode was originally published on July 14, 2021. In today's episode, we will hear from journalist and activist Joharah Baker. She discusses the hardships of being with her husband and kids under Israel's Citizenship and Entry into Israel Law. Enacted in 2003, the Citizenship and Entry into Israel law is aimed at making the process for non-Jews to acquire citizenship even more difficult than it already was. Under the 2003 law, any Israeli citizen or permanent resident who marries someone who holds a Palestinian ID - whether that person is from the West Bank or the Gaza Strip - cannot have their spouse reside in Jerusalem or in '48 without first obtaining a permit and cannot obtain citizenship or permanent residency through their spouses.
On March 15, 2022, the Israeli Supreme Court is expected to render a decision on whether the state of Israel will be permitted to carry out a large expulsion of Palestinians in the West Bank. The Palestinians in question live in an area of the South Hebron Hills called Masafer Yatta, residing for many generations in small, shepherding-based villages. In the early 1980s, in violation of international law, the IDF declared the area a firing zone (“Firing Zone 918”) -- an action viewed by experts as taken with the clear Israeli objective of displacing the Palestinian residents of the area and taking control of the land. Consistent with that analysis, for decades, Palestinians living in Masafer Yatta have faced constant threat of expulsion, home demolitions, confiscation of their property, harassment and violence at the hands of both the Israeli army and Israeli settlers. Ali Awad, a writer and activist from Tuba - one of the villages slated in Masafer Yatta - and Maya Rosen, a Jerusalem-based Palestine solidarity activist, will join FMEP's Sarah Anne Minkin for a discussion of how Palestinians in Masafer Yatta continue to build their lives despite the constant existential threat they are under such threat, what they expect from the Israeli Supreme Court, and the international campaign they have launched to save their villages. We'll also discuss the role of the Israeli judiciary in enabling Israeli apartheid and Israel's use of the “firing zone” designation as a means of confiscating Palestinian land. What bearing do these Israeli-imposed environmental limitations have on Palestinians' ability to stay on their land? And what does “climate justice” mean, and what could it look like for Palestinians? This week, Lara and Michael sit down with Nkosi Zwelivelile Mandela, Amir of the Royal House of Mandela, tribal chief of the Mvezo Traditional Council, member of Parliament (MP) in the South Africa National Assembly since 2009, grandson of the anti-apartheid revolutionary and former president of South Africa Nelson Mandela and a fierce advocate of Palestinian liberation. This episode is a deep dive into Apartheid South Africa, the parallels between South African Apartheid and Israeli Apartheid, and the deep bonds between Palestinian liberation activists and South African anti-apartheid activists. It is also a moment of education into what the Palestinian liberation struggle can learn from our comrades in South Africa. Nkosi Mandela speaks of the importance of armed resistance, BDS, and direct action, the politics and legacy of President Mandela, the importance of youth activism and more. Lara queries how far are we from liberation in Palestine by drawing from the history of South Africa and Michael asks Chief Mandela to set the record straight on letting the oppressor define modes of resistance and identity politics.
