The tree made a good, thickcovering to protect them from the dew, and the Tin Woodman chopped agreat pile of wood with his axe and Dorothy built a splendid fire thatwarmed her and made her feel less lonely. She and Toto ate the last oftheir bread, and now she did not know what they would do for breakfast.“If you wish,” said the Lion, “I will go into the forest and kill adeer for you. You can roast it by the fire, since your tastes are sopeculiar that you prefer cooked food, and then you will have a verygood breakfast.”“Don't! Please don't,” begged the Tin Woodman. “I should certainly weepif you killed a poor deer, and then my jaws would rust again.”Thank you for experiencing Celebrate Poe.

In the arms of Glinda's grand castle, where every corner glistened with the polish of a thousand transformations, one remained desired yet unfulfilled—that of a journey home. It was here, in the presence of the formidable yet gentle Glinda the Good, that our young heroine Dorothy, flanked by her valiant companions—the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, and the endearing Cowardly Lion—readied herself to speak the truth of a wish long harboured. Beneath the tender gaze of Glinda, whose azure eyes held the kindness of all the skies above Oz, lay the emergence of hope renewed; for Kansas and its weathered plains beckoned to Dorothy, their call a silvery echo that bore the gravity of love and the essence of belonging.Elation coursed through all present as the girl from the heartland summoned the magic that would bridge worlds in a heartbeat, her voice resonant with the invocation of home—a word replete with the warmth of hearth and embrace of kin; a single, potent incantation imbued with the power to rend the very fabric of distance, sweeping across the boundless gulf that separated the yellow brick road from the windswept prairies of Kansas.

Our chapter begins in the aftermath of desires dashed and dreams deferred. It weaves a tapestry of emotions, where Dorothy's tears are as plentiful as her courage, and her companions stand as steadfast witnesses to the bond of unity that adversity has forged among them. The Tin Woodman, with his heart of newfound tenderness, mourns the departure of the enigmatic Oz, seeking solace in the gentle touch of Dorothy's hand as she dries his sorrow. Our Scarecrow, ever the unexpected sovereign of an Emerald realm, contemplates the weight of his straw-stuffed crown, while the Lion, in his quiet bravery, eyes the horizon with a wild longing. In this moment of stillness before the journey resumes, friends join in counsel, casting their gaze upon the treacherous yet beckoning South—toward Glinda, Witch of promise, whose abode skirts the boundary of the impassable desert.

As the Emerald City basked in the contentment of newfound courage, heart, and brains, a shadow of longing clung to Dorothy, for whom the lustrous streets and verdant walls could not replace the windswept plains of Kansas. Among her companions, satisfaction had blossomed; the Scarecrow was brimming with profound, albeit solitary, thoughts, the Tin Woodman's metallic chest echoed with the thrum of tender compassion, and the Lion strutted, a creature fearless and formidable. And yet, Dorothy's heart ached with a homesickness that not even the most brilliant emeralds could cure. Then, as a break in the clouds offers a ray of hope to the weary traveller, Oz himself summoned Dorothy into his grandiose presence, dangling the promise of a return—not with certainty to Kansas—but an escape from the grips of this fairyland. And from within the bustling throne room came a scheme as whimsical as the land itself; they would take to the skies in a contrivance of silk and hot air, crafted by their own hands—a balloon, glowing as green as the city that dreamt it into being.

We journey with our companions as they each seek the fulfilment of their deepest desires from the man behind the curtain. The Scarecrow radiates optimism as he heads to collect the brains he equates with worth, while Dorothy's simple affection underscores the value of his existing charm. The Tin Woodman's quest for a heart and the Lion's pursuit of courage lay bare their vulnerability, entrusting their futures to the Wizard's dubious prowess. Behind the smoke and mirrors, Oz concocts his clever charades, granting hollow artifacts of intellect, love, and bravery. As they embrace their newfound qualities, we're reminded of the thin veil between perception and reality, and the enchanting force of belief that binds this whimsical realm.

With the malevolent Wicked Witch relegated to a memory, dissolved in her own tyranny, the Cowardly Lion breathes the air of freedom once more, his heavy heart unchained by his courageous comrades. Our brave Dorothy, key bearer of liberation, swings wide the gates of captivity, her feet sure in her path as she treads the stones of the Wicked Witch's stronghold to reclaim the spirit of justice. The yellow Winkies, whose songs had been stifled under the yoke of cruelty, now find their voices in harmonious exultation, the chains of servitude shattered at their feet as they dance upon the remnants of their captivity, their joy a palpable chorus that hums with the vibrancy of newfound liberty.Yet, even amidst the festival of freedom, an anxious whisper rustles like leaves through the merriment: the Scarecrow and the Tin Woodman are not here to share in this triumph. The Lion's noble heart, ever seeking completeness in camaraderie, stirs our collective resolve. “We must try,” a sentiment simple and profound, becomes the anthem of this chapter in our tale.

So welcome back to the show. And since I have been proposing some of the musicals, so now it's your turn. Which one would you pick? Well. I've got a couple of questions actually, before we begin, my first question is, do you like witches and magic and things like that? Oh. I love witches. They're pretty good.Wizardry witchcraft. My thing, that's totally my territory. Okay, okay, what about if I give you some characters? Could you tell me the show that they're from? Do you think?Okay. InterestingHow about a lion, a scarecrow, a tin man. Any ideas? Ah, we're gonna talk about Wicked. Yeah.Wicked. Wicked. So Wicked中文名叫魔法坏女巫. It sounds like a child's show, but it's actually not. Wicked is a musical based on a novel of the same name, which was published in 1995. But this story is actually based on an older novel, and the film named The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. 很多人应该听过中文名叫绿野仙踪或者奥兹国或者Oz国历险记. Oliver, let me ask you the original story, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, how popular, how well known it is in English-speaking culture? It is incredibly popular. I am certainly the movie is, I think it's one of the most watched movies, it's up there in the what most watched movies of all time category. It is so popular, certainly in the UK, I'd imagine in the US as well. And probably all around the world. The characters - easy to kind of get along, to understand that easy to like and it's got a very clear, good, bad type of type of vibe to it. So everyone can kind of support the hero and against the evil wicked witch. Yeah. Did you watch or read it as a child? I have watched the movie. I watched it a few times as a child, but I've never read the book. The book is a new one for me. Okay. So the original book, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, follows a Kansas farm girl named Dorothy. And I'm sure many of you recognize the name Dorothy陶乐丝或者陶乐西. And so, she's just an ordinary farm girl, but one day she ends up in a magical Land of Oz after she and her pet dog Toto are swept away from their home by a cyclone. Yeah. Dorothy, Toto and their house all get taken away in a big tornado or cyclone or something and placed in this magical world with talking scarecrows and Tin Man, robots and lions who are terrified of everything, cowardly lions and it's very very good. Yeah, and she was trying desperately to get back home. And she ran into a lot of adventures. It sounds almost like very similar to the whole idea of Alice in Wonderland. It does feel very similar to that, yes, getting a young girl lost in a magical world just trying to get home. Yeah, so apart from those characters that Oliver just mentioned, the Lion, the Scarecrow, and the Tin Woodman. They're also the Wicked Witch and the Good Witch and the Wizard of Oz. 这里面还讲到什么坏女巫, 好女巫. If you have read the book or watched the movie, I'm sure you know which ones I'm talking about. But this musical, interestingly, is told from the perspective of the two witches, it's not focusing on Dorothy at all. No. Wicked takes the original story of The Wizard of Oz and it flips it around. It happens, I've seen it happening a lot in movies and things nowadays. The movie Magnificent did something similar where the evil traditionally evil character, we see the story from their point of view and from their perspective and it's not quite what we assumed it was. And Wicked, does it very well.

Dorothy awakes to the melody of Toto's playful skirmishes with the woodland fauna, and beside her, the ever-patient Scarecrow remained—a steadfast guardian in a realm of ceaseless wonder. They sought the modest comfort of water, a reminder of the mortal demands even in a world so steeped in magic. For in the pursuit of the extraordinary, L. Frank Baum never lets us forget the humble necessities that bind us to our human condition; the need for sustenance, the rejuvenating power of clean water, the companionship found on a road paved with yellow brick. As Dorothy, the tender heart of Kansas, and her straw-filled companion ventured for refreshment, a mysterious groan shattered the serenity of the quiet woods. Before them lay a figure as still as the oaks that canopied their path, a man not of flesh, but of tin. The Tin Woodman, frozen in an eternal pose of despair, axe held aloft, awaited salvation from his metallic purgatory.

The Emerald City of Oz by L. Frank Baum audiobook. The Emerald City of Oz (1910) was the sixth Oz book written by L. Frank Baum, a title he hoped would be the last. In this book, Dorothy and her impoverished Uncle Henry and Aunt Em are on the brink of losing their Kansas farm. Consequently, Ozma invites them all to live in the Emerald City. They then explore the countryside, visiting a series of strange beings including the Cuttenclips, the Fuddles, the Rigmaroles, the Flutterbudgets, and the residents of Utensia, Bunbury and Bunnybury. Aunt Em and Uncle Henry also meet old friends like the Wizard, the Cowardly Lion and the Hungry Tiger, the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, Jack Pumpkinhead and H. M. Wogglebug T. E. The travelers' idyll is brought short by the plot of an old enemy, the Nome King. Seeking revenge for the loss of his magic belt, the Nome King has an underground tunnel built so he can invade and plunder Oz and enslave its peoples. Our friends manage to defeat the Nome King and his allies, but sobered by this threat, Glinda and Ozma decide to cut off Oz from the outside world forever. Happily for Oz fans, forever lasted only three years. Baum invented a way to reopen communications with Oz and eight more Oz books were published between 1913-1920.

We return to Oz this week, where our heroes have been driven out of the Emerald City by an army of girls who have deposed the king, our old friend, the Scarecrow from "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz". Last week, we began our second journey into the Marvelous Land of Oz, and met Tip and his inadvertent companion, Jack Pumpkinhead. These characters may seem familiar if you have ever seen Disney's 1985 film 'Return to Oz', a much darker sequel to the classic 'The Wizard of Oz'. Jack Pumpkinhead plays a pivotal role in the film, which takes elements of this Oz story and the next in the series, 'Ozma of Oz,' and throws in some other ideas to create a film that, while not well known, retains a cult following.  This week, we follow our heroes into the Emerald City. Then we have tonight's story called Glinda of Oz Peace, prosperity, and happiness are the rule in the marvelous Land of Oz, but in a faraway corner of this magical domain dwell two tribes--the Flatheads and the Skeezers--who have declared war on each other. Determined to keep her subjects from fighting, the Ruler of Oz, Princess Ozma, along with her dearest friend, Princess Dorothy Gale (formerly of Kansas), embarks on a quest to restore peace. When the Supreme Dictator of the Flatheads refuses to cooperate with Ozma, she and Dorothy seek out Queen Coo-ee-oh of the Skeezers, hoping she will be more reasonable. But the queen imprisons Ozma and Dorothy in her grand city and then traps them by submerging the whole city underwater. Now it is up to Glinda the Good to save the day. She assembles all of Ozma's counselors--including such beloved Oz friends as the Scarecrow, Tin Woodman, Cowardly Lion, Patchwork Girl, Shaggy Man, Tik-Tok, and Wizard of Oz--and they set out to rescue their friends. Will the magic powers of Glinda and the Wizard combined be enough to free Ozma and Dorothy?   “Will you come with me, sweet Reader? I thank you. The Tin Woodman of Oz - L. Frank Baum - Book 12 Title: The Tin Woodman of Oz Overview: The Tin Woodman of Oz: A Faithful Story of the Astonishing Adventure Undertaken by the Tin Woodman, Assisted by Woot the Wanderer, the Scarecrow of Oz, and Polychrome, the Rainbow's Daughter is the twelfth Land of Oz book written by L. Frank Baum and was originally published on May 13, 1918. The Tin Woodman is reunited with his Munchkin sweetheart Nimmie Amee from the days when he was flesh and blood. This was a back-story from Baum's 1900 novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The book was dedicated to the author's grandson Frank Alden Baum. The Oz books form a book series that begins with The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1900) and relates the fictional history of the Land of Oz. Oz was created by author L. Frank Baum, who went on to write fourteen full-length Oz books. Even while he was alive, Baum was styled as "the Royal Historian of Oz" in order to emphasize the concept that Oz is an actual place. In his Oz books, Baum created the illusion that characters such as Dorothy and Princess Ozma relayed their adventures in Oz to Baum themselves, by means of a wireless telegraph. Frank Baum's Oz series. It was the first in which Baum was clearly intending a series of Oz books. It is the first Oz book where the majority of the action takes place outside of the Land of Oz. Only the final two chapters take place in Oz itself. This reflects a subtle change in theme: in the first book, Oz is the dangerous land through which Dorothy must win her way back to Kansas; in the third, Oz is the end and aim of the book. Dorothy's desire to return home is not as desperate as in the first book, and it is her uncle's need for her rather than hers for him that makes her return. The book was illustrated throughout in color by artist John R. Neill. It bore the following dedication: "To all the boys and girls who read my stories – and especially to the Dorothys – this book is lovingly dedicated."
