Follow the flying monkeys of facts down the Yellow Brick Road for an episode that’s Toto-ly packed with 'Wizard of Oz' trivia! In part one of the TMI’s guy’s epic two-fer on children’s cinematic classic, you’ll hear all about the origins of the original book and how author L. Frank Baum’s (who, it’s worth noting, was bullied by theater people) was inspired by office supplies, family tragedy and his childhood nightmares to develop the magical series. You'll also learn why MGM greenlit the budget-busting production to compete with the world beating success of Walt Disney's 'Snow White,' the biggest blockbuster in history at the time. This episode focuses on the cast of 'Oz,' nearly all of whom were tortured physically and psychologically. Special shout-out to original Tin Man Buddy Ebsen, who nearly died due to his wildly unsafe makeup. There's also the truly disgusting costumes required for the Scarecrow and Cowardly Lion, and the trials and tribulations of being a Munchkin on the set. (Spoiler: there were no Munchkin orgies.) The TMI duo also explain why The Wicked Witch of the West was actually the loveliest person in the production, why Toto is buried under LA's 101 freeway, and why the Ruby Slippers led to a 13-year FBI manhunt. Plus, prepare to get really bummed out when you learn about Judy Garland's childhood and all the drugs she was (allegedly) being fed by her mom. Yes, the movie making experience was less than wonderful for the cast, but the episode's pretty great. Send us a textReturn to Oz is famous for scarring a generation of kids with its dark, surreal imagery and unsettling villains. But was it truly a nightmare, or a bold, creative take on the Oz legend? In this episode, Andrea and Ryan explore whether this dark fantasy was too intense for children or if it was just the kind of movie that challenges kids to confront their fears in a way that few films dared to at the time.Follow us @disneyinsideoutpodcast

Hi Yu-na, Hi Da-na, It's 고모부. Tonight's bedtime story is from "The Marvelous Land of Oz," by L. Frank Baum. We love you and miss you always, and we can't wait to be with you again as soon as possible. With love, 북극곰 고모부 (The Polar Bear Uncle) ____________________________________________ To all other parties: On December 25, 2022, Yu-na and Da-na were abducted by their biological mother who does not have any legal (parental or custodial) rights. They were supposed to be back on Christmas day after visitation and were never returned, in defiance of multiple court decisions both then and since. Unfortunately, for both our family and others, South Korea's legal system by and large does not treat such matters as criminal—let alone abuse—and offers no practical means of enforcement despite court orders demanding the return of Da-na and Yu-na. Book Vs. Movie: The Wizard of Oz(Replay in honor of Wicked!) The Margos celebrate the new Wicked movie starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande with a replay of our beloved episode devoted to L. Frank Baum and The Wizard of Oz. The book presents a vast, detailed Oz with darker undertones, while the movie streamlines the story, focusing on Dorothy's emotional journey. Baum's Dorothy is resourceful and independent, whereas Judy Garland's portrayal adds warmth and vulnerability, emphasizing her longing for home.Between the technicolor 1939 classic and the original novel--which version did we prefer? This collection of fantasy stories was originally serialized in regional newspapers, prior to being published as a complete volume. The stories, as critics have noted, lack the high-fantasy aspect of the best of Baum's work, in Oz or out. With ironic or nonsensical morals attached to their ends, their tone is more satirical, glib, and tongue-in-cheek than is usual in children's stories; the serialization in newspapers for adult readers was appropriate for the materials.
