Jeff Goldblum is an actor and musician who stars as The Wonderful Wizard of Oz in the movie musical Wicked and its upcoming sequel Wicked: For Good. In this conversation from July 2022, Goldblum sits down with Willie Geist to talk about returning as Dr. Ian Malcolm in Jurassic World: Dominion, reuniting with Laura Dern and Sam Neill nearly three decades after the original Jurassic Park, and leading his own jazz ensemble when he's not on set. Looking back, he reflects on the creativity, gratitude, and spontaneity that continue to define both his work and his life. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Today I'm joined by Cass of Hollywoodland Photos to deep dive into the life of Judy Garland. Child prodigy, star of the Wizard of Oz and victim to the Hollywood studio system, her life is a mish mash of terrific highs and terrifying lows which ultimately took her life.

Watch this episode ad free by joining the ITBR Patreon and get a free trial for the ITBR Professor level! patreon.com/ivorytowerboilerroomJoin us "somewhere over the rainbow" for a very special all things The Wonderful Wizard of Oz universe themed episode. I'm joined with the co-editors of Broadview Press' new edition of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Professors Dina Schiff Massachi and Mark I. West. This episode couldn't come out (okay I couldn't help myself there) at a better time since asking someone if they were a "friend of Dorothy" was slang in the 20th century for being part of the LGBT community. First, Dina and Mark provide scholarly insight into L. Frank Baum's Oz books and how he created an original American fairy tale. We talk all about the numerous adaptations that Baum's books have inspired including the iconic MGM film, Return to Oz, and Gregory's Maguire's Wicked. As Dina reminds us, Baum's work was progressive for its time especially the strong female characters who challenge gender norms, and in Dina's opinion, Baum's Dorothy might be more feminist than Judy Garland's Dorothy! Dina and Mark explain that this new Broadview edition not only provides historical context for deeper analysis but also the original illustrations. Take a stroll down the yellow brick road with MK and Emma to ask the wizard about one of the most famous film adaptations of all time. How did the 1900 children's fairy tale turned populism allegory become one of the most well-known movies from 1939? What's the true number of witches? What's with all the slavery in Oz? Why do people think this is the first technicolor film? All these questions discussed an more as Unnatural Selection unpacks The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Content warnings for The Wizard of Oz include: fairytale-typical violence, unsettling creatures, and the Tin Man's backstory. Send us a textChapter XI. The (Emerald) Wonderful City of OzEven with eyes protected by the green spectacles, Dorothy and herfriends were at first dazzled by the brilliancy of the wonderful City. The streets were lined with beautiful houses all built of green marbleand studded everywhere with sparkling emeralds. They walked over apavement of the same green marble, and where the blocks were joinedtogether were rows of emeralds, set closely, and glittering in thebrightness of the sun. The window panes were of green glass; even thesky above the City had a green tint, and the rays of the sun weregreen. There were many people—men, women, and children—walking about, andthese were all dressed in green clothes and had greenish skins. Theylooked at Dorothy and her strangely assorted company with wonderingeyes, and the children all ran away and hid behind their mothers whenthey saw the Lion; but no one spoke to them. Many shops stood in thestreet, and Dorothy saw that everything in them was green. Green candyand green pop corn were offered for sale, as well as green shoes, greenhats, and green clothes of all sorts. At one place a man was sellinggreen lemonade, and when the children bought it Dorothy could see thatthey paid for it with green pennies.Thank you for experiencing Celebrate Poe.

Hi Yu-na, Hi Da-na, It's 고모부. Tonight's bedtime story is from "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz," by L. Frank Baum. Here we go! In this hot, stormy summer weather, we've decided to take a field trip to Oz and explore the 1900 book the Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum. Of course we cover the 1939 movie as well and we found we had a A LOT to say about it and other related projects. If you want to learn about the life of Baum and even what poppy plants are famous for, we've got all of that packed up and ready for you. Come on and get inside, I see a twister comin'.
A discussion about and look into the stories, the history and personalities that came together to make "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" in 1910. Directed by Otis Turner and starring Bebe Daniels. This is the first "Oz" cinematic adaptation and is also the first in a continuing series examining the various silent "Oz" films. This trip over the rainbow is the next stop on our "World Tour '24." The Mind Renewed : Thinking Christianly in a New World Order
“It is a personal film, and no reviewer, or critic, or viewer has ever given an interpretation that is my interpretation.”—David Lynch For the 15th Movie Roundtable here at TMR we welcome back our good friends Frank Johnson, Antony Rotunno and Mark Campbell for another four-way discussion, this time on David Lynch's cult surrealist "horror" film Eraserhead from 1977. Or is that perhaps not quite right? Each of us in the discussion loves the film Eraserhead (for various reasons), but I don't think any of us finds it exactly horrifying. Certainly, my reaction is more one of bemusement plus amusement, and the feeling that I'm a fly on the wall inside someone else's nightmare. So perhaps it would be better (for me) to call Eraserhead a "cult surrealist dark comedy nightmare film"? Or maybe that's not quite right either. Perhaps: a "cult surrealist nightmare-that-is-somehow-also-dark-comedy-without-ceasing-to-be-a-nightmare film"? That works for me, but I'd be just as happy to say that this film—which seems as strange today as when it first came out back in 1977—simply defies description. Join us as we discuss the film's production, ponder its meaning(s)—or lack thereof (?)—and consider what this "dream of dark and troubling things” might have to "say" to us today.
