This week we have a powerful and practical message from Tim Chaddick, Pastor for Preaching at Reality Ventura and a frequent speaker and mentor with Expositors Collective. Recorded live at a preacher training event in Indianapolis, Indiana, this teaching is concise, impactful, and brimming with honest and insightful wisdom. Tim encourages preachers to prioritise their reading, plan their rhythms, and practise their rules to cultivate personal spiritual health, relational well-being, and clarity in their public proclamation of God's Word. He outlines a strategic approach to sermon preparation, beginning with expositional resources to understand the biblical text, then connecting the passage to the broader narrative of Scripture through doctrinal and thematic resources, and finally incorporating cultural resources to address contemporary contexts. He also provides practical advice on balancing sermon preparation with the demands of pastoral care. From planning sermon series and crafting weekly rhythms to involving others in the feedback process, Tim offers valuable tools to help preachers stay spiritually grounded while effectively fulfilling their calling. Above all, he challenges preachers to preach first to their own hearts, rely on the Holy Spirit, and trust that God's Word will bear fruit—even in seasons of inadequacy. Tim's own journey began in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he pursued music and relationships as the source of his identity. After encountering the gospel of Jesus Christ, he experienced forgiveness and new life, leading to his calling as a pastor. Over the years, Tim has planted and pastored churches in Los Angeles, London, and Ventura, California, with a deep passion for urban church planting and gospel renewal. This episode is both practical and thought-provoking—a must-listen for anyone seeking wisdom on sustaining a healthy ministry life and preaching with clarity, power, and purpose. Is baptism a requirement for salvation? There are some Christian groups who say that it is, and others who say it isn't. In this episode of Theology for the People, I am joined by Pastor Stephen Pomeroy from White Fields Community Church, and we look at the Bible verses and arguments which are central to the debate over “baptismal regeneration.” We aim to show you why we believe every Christian should be baptized, but that, as Christians, we are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. Do you know what sex robots, racism, and gender identity all have in common? In addition to being topics that are discussed in this episode, these topics are all related to the subject of Theological (or Biblical) Anthropology. My guest in this episode is Michael Payne. Mike is the Worship Pastor at White Fields Community Church, and he is a graduate student at Western Seminary, where he is pursing a Masters in Theology. In this episode we talk about what Biblical Anthropology is and how it shapes the way we understand ourselves and others, as well as how our view of anthropology shapes the way we live and interact in the world. In episode 152, Bill Holdridge sits down with pastor Nick Cady of White Fields Community Church in Longmont, Colorado. The topic is the backstory of Nick's book, The God I Won't Believe In. How would you complete this sentence, “I could never believe in a God who…?” In 2019, Nick Cady asked the Internet that very question. The responses, along with other research, highlighted nine common themes – topics which people say make it hard for them to embrace Christianity. What began as a nine-week series of messages addressing these barriers, quickly became the most popular, most requested series on Nick's podcasts, church website, radio program, and even on USB drives in the church bookstore. This book is the culmination of those requests, research, and feedback – adapted as a resource to help you, your friends and family through some of the most difficult questions about God and the Bible. Every pastor knows, we humans are all subject to struggles of various kinds. Even those who already believe in Christ can sometimes struggle with and question things about God, Christianity, and the Bible. The book aims to help the struggler move from doubt, questions, and unbelief to a strengthened faith and belief in the true God of the Bible. It's also an equipping tool for pastors and congregants, to help the helpers as thy assist friends and family members who struggle with some of these questions. The interview brings insight into the need for this kind of apologetics. Topics Nick addresses include: A God Who Condones Genocide A God Who Says Some Love Is Wrong A God Who Lets Bad Things Happen To Good People A God Who Doesn't Answer My Prayers

Since our preaching builds, affirms and creates the culture of our churches, it is vitally important that we emphasize and consistently hold out not only the gospel itself, but the cultural implications thereof. In this workshop, given at the CGN International Pastors and Leaders Conference in Costa Mesa California back in June of 2022, Mike Neglia, Tim Chaddick and Nick Cady speak about the opportunities (and limitations) of the pulpit for shaping, upholding and communicating gospel culture in the lives of our churches. “As the pastor, you are the primary shaper of the church's culture. Because you preach most frequently, your beliefs and values are far more influential in steering the culture of the church. What matters to you usually defines what matters to the church. This influence is a grave privilege” - Deepak Reju + Jeremy PierreNick Cady is the lead pastor of White Fields Community Church in Longmont, Colorado.Prior to moving to Longmont in 2012, Nick spent 10 years as a missionary, pastor and church planter in Hungary working with Calvary Chapel. Nick Cady's book The God I Won't Believe In: Facing Nine Common Barriers To Embracing Christianity is an amazing apologetics book like no other. Written in response to on online poll he initiated, The God I Won't Believe In responds to the top nine responses to the phrase, "I could never believe in a God who ________________________________." After a sermon series in response to these objections to Christianity, pastor Nick turned it into a book. A well written, simple, and thoroughly sound theological work. Topics include "I could never believe in a God who Condones Genocide, Says Some Love Is Wrong, and who Doesn't Answer My Prayers. Join show host Bill Holdridge as Nick unpacks the heart of this book, and highlights key parts of it. This book is a must read, and has already been super helpful to pastors and leaders in equipping their congregations in solid, basic apologetics totally relevant to the age in which we live. And for the skeptic or pre-believer, this book will answer questions that have been simmering in their minds for (perhaps) many years. When we "contextualize" the gospel, or any other biblical message, do we run the risk of changing it? What is the goal and purpose of contextualization, and how can we be sure that we are doing it well, without watering down the message on the one hand, nor adding unbiblical elements on the other? Michael spent 21 years in Hungary as a missionary, worship pastor, church planter, teaching and discipling worship teams throughout Europe with an emphasis on bringing Christ centered songs into local worship services through the mentoring of local songwriters.Preaching mentorships are a key component of the Expositors Collective. When it comes to the craft of preaching everyone is called to be both a learner and a teacher. We have plenty to learn in our journey, and there are also newer and younger preachers behind us who could benefit from our coaching and encouragement. This talk from Michael Payne, which was recorded in February in Budapest, Hungary, speaks about the importance of mentorship in the life of both musicians and preachers. ------ “Mentoring is a relationship between two people in which the person with greater rank, experience and/or expertise teaches, counsels, guides, and helps the other to develop both professional and personally.” (Bustrum, p. 111) “The professional aspect involves career help and the personal aspect of psychosocial development. Role modeling is a key component of mentoring. (Marrs, p. 3) “Mentoring is a relational experience through which one person empowers another by sharing God-given resources.” (Stanley and Clinton, p. 12) “The formal mentoring relationship is an intentional, exclusive, intensive, voluntary relationship between two persons.” (Wright, p. 29). “Spiritual mentoring is a triadic relationship between mentor, mentoree and the Holy Spirit, where the mentoree can discover, through the already present action of God, intimacy with God, ultimate identity as a child of God and a unique voice for kingdom responsibility.” (Anderson and Reese, p. 12) “Mentoring is a relational process that facilitates learning and development in our search for meaning and vocation” (Terry Burns). The Expositors Collective podcast is part of the GoodLion podcast network, for more thought provoking Christian podcasts visit https://goodlion.io

What is the foundation of your approval before God? Is it based on how your most recent sermon went; or is it based upon the once and for all work of Jesus on your behalf? Since we are justified by faith it means that we are accepted, loved and approved by God entirely on the basis of Christ’s work on our behalf.Pete Nelson speaks on the importance of knowing our identity in Christ, and how that impacts our public ministry and allows us to find our own voice and be comfortable in our own skin. This was recorded in Bradenton Florida on December 1 2018.As a pastor, musician and evangelist, Pete Nelson’s worldwide travels have given him a unique perspective on the church as well as the global need for the gospel.
