Can AI enhance sermon preparation without compromising theological integrity? Mike Neglia and Nick Cady DELVE into the ethics of using AI in Christian ministry, discussing its potential benefits (like editing, condensing, and title generation) and serious dangers (such as inaccuracies, plagiarism, and spiritual shortcuts). Mike shares real-life examples of how he's used AI—including a misattributed quote from former Irish President Mary McAleese—while Nick warns against letting AI replace personal study and reliance on the Holy Spirit. Whether you're curious or cautious about AI, this episode provides a thoughtful and practical guide for pastors navigating this new frontier. This episode was also co-released on the Theology for the People podcast feed: Be sure to subscribe if you want to hear more from Nick Cady: https://cgnmedia.org/podcast/theology-for-the-people Join Us for our Next Training Weekend in Colorado!White Fields Community ChurchLongmont, ColoradoApril 4-5, 2025For information about our upcoming training events visit ExpositorsCollective.com The Expositors Collective podcast is part of the CGNMedia, Working together to proclaim the Gospel, make disciples, and plant churches. This week we have a powerful and practical message from Tim Chaddick, Pastor for Preaching at Reality Ventura and a frequent speaker and mentor with Expositors Collective. Recorded live at a preacher training event in Indianapolis, Indiana, this teaching is concise, impactful, and brimming with honest and insightful wisdom. Tim encourages preachers to prioritise their reading, plan their rhythms, and practise their rules to cultivate personal spiritual health, relational well-being, and clarity in their public proclamation of God's Word. He outlines a strategic approach to sermon preparation, beginning with expositional resources to understand the biblical text, then connecting the passage to the broader narrative of Scripture through doctrinal and thematic resources, and finally incorporating cultural resources to address contemporary contexts. He also provides practical advice on balancing sermon preparation with the demands of pastoral care. From planning sermon series and crafting weekly rhythms to involving others in the feedback process, Tim offers valuable tools to help preachers stay spiritually grounded while effectively fulfilling their calling. Above all, he challenges preachers to preach first to their own hearts, rely on the Holy Spirit, and trust that God's Word will bear fruit—even in seasons of inadequacy. Tim's own journey began in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he pursued music and relationships as the source of his identity. After encountering the gospel of Jesus Christ, he experienced forgiveness and new life, leading to his calling as a pastor. Over the years, Tim has planted and pastored churches in Los Angeles, London, and Ventura, California, with a deep passion for urban church planting and gospel renewal. This episode is both practical and thought-provoking—a must-listen for anyone seeking wisdom on sustaining a healthy ministry life and preaching with clarity, power, and purpose. The Bible holds its greatest meaning and richness when interpreted through the lens of Jesus-shaped goggles, revealing its Main Character and guiding us toward explicitly Christian sermons. It is through this transformative perspective that the profound wisdom of the scriptures emerges, showcasing how each passage, story, and verse converges to illuminate the life, teachings, and grace of Jesus. In this episode, seasoned pastors Nick Cady and Josh Black from Victory Calvary Chapel lead an insightful and dynamic workshop recorded in the picturesque setting of Temecula, California, in August 2023. Their mission: to equip pastors, ministers, and aspiring preachers with the tools to deliver Gospel-centered sermons that resonate deeply with the core message of the gospel, no matter which part of the Bible they are preaching from. Throughout the event, participants were immersed in a captivating atmosphere of learning, exploration, and revelation. They learned to discern the gospel's truth and significance on every page of the Bible, discovering how each biblical narrative weaves into the grand, redemptive story of Jesus Christ. This workshop emphasized expository preaching, biblical hermeneutics, and Christ-centered exposition as the foundation for effective, impactful ministry. Nick and Josh's approach to gospel-driven, Christ-centered preaching included practical insights on how to craft sermons that are theologically sound, pastorally sensitive, and relevant to the challenges faced by modern congregations. The speakers encouraged participants to connect the timeless truths of Scripture with the real-life experiences, challenges, and struggles of their audience—effectively bridging the gap between ancient biblical texts and contemporary issues. The ultimate goal was to equip pastors and preachers with strategies to point people toward the transformative power of the gospel, urging them to embrace the profound love, redemption, and grace found in Jesus Christ.Whether you're a seasoned pastor or new to preaching, this episode is designed to provide valuable insights for delivering Christ-centered messages that change lives. As the event concluded, attendees left inspired and empowered to proclaim the gospel from every passage, impacting lives and transforming hearts with the eternal truth of Jesus's love. Join us in this episode as we explore the intersection of biblical exegesis, homiletics, and the power of preaching the gospel in a way that captivates and transforms your congregation.

In this first episode of Season 4, Nick Cady speaks with pastor and author Andrew Wilson about why understanding western culture is important for Christian theology and mission. Andrew has a PhD from King's College London, and he serves as the teaching pastor at King's Church London. In his new book, Remaking the World: How 1776 Created the Post-Christian West, Andrew looks at 7 transformational events which took place in 1776, that paved the way for today's post-Christian western culture. By understanding how those events influence the way people think today, Christians can more effectively share God's truth in a post-Christian age. In today's episode, we delve into a profound conversation with my friend, Pastor Johnny Zacchio. Johnny brings some pertinent pastoral questions about the subject of doubt and deconstruction, which is a significant issue for many within the church today. His questions focus on how pastors can understand a simple meaning of deconstruction, and how we can better minister and lend support to those wrestling with these challenging topics. Alongside discussing my personal standpoints and experiences, we unpack how the church can better understand, empathize with, and shepherd the 'doubter' in our communities. Our conversation is a deep dive into the intersection of faith, doubt, and how we can uphold the truth while extending grace and mercy. Whether you are in ministry, a lay leader, volunteer, or simply a Christian seeking to help others follow Jesus, this episode is for you. Hey folks, I am super excited to share with you the full audio of a workshop that Nick Cady and I put together for CGN. In this workshop, we dive deep into the topic of doubt and deconstruction. The goal of this workshop is to help Christians and ministry leaders understand this issue from an informed, compassionate, and measured perspective. The reality is a lot of people are struggling, and we need to work hard to understand the why. (Note: To anyone who follows me who is not a Christian, or is a former Christian who has now deconstructed, please understand you're not the target audience for this, but if you watch my hope Is that you'd see the heart in trying to help people understand so they can help! Feel free to DM me if it sparks anything you'd want to discuss. I'm always open.) We understand that doubt is a common experience and can be challenging to navigate, especially when it comes to ministering to the next generation. In this workshop, we aim to provide insights and practical strategies to help ministry leaders engage with and support individuals going through doubt and deconstruction. Here are some of the key points we will cover: 1. The personal significance of doubt: We both share our own experiences of doubt and how it led us to deeper exploration and growth. 2. Understanding the next generation: We explore the unique challenges young people face today and how doubt and deconstruction often play a significant role in their faith journey. 3. The impact of doubt on ministry: We discuss the heartbreak and challenges that ministry leaders face when helping individuals navigate doubt and provide guidance on how to address their questions and concerns. 4. The process of doubt and deconstruction: We unpack the definitions of doubt and deconstruction, highlighting the different stages and dynamics involved, and explore why understanding their origins is essential. 5. Practical application for helping those who struggle with doubt and deconstruction navigate these complex waters. We sincerely hope this workshop blesses you and enriches your ministry! In episode 152, Bill Holdridge sits down with pastor Nick Cady of White Fields Community Church in Longmont, Colorado. The topic is the backstory of Nick's book, The God I Won't Believe In. How would you complete this sentence, “I could never believe in a God who…?” In 2019, Nick Cady asked the Internet that very question. The responses, along with other research, highlighted nine common themes – topics which people say make it hard for them to embrace Christianity. What began as a nine-week series of messages addressing these barriers, quickly became the most popular, most requested series on Nick's podcasts, church website, radio program, and even on USB drives in the church bookstore. This book is the culmination of those requests, research, and feedback – adapted as a resource to help you, your friends and family through some of the most difficult questions about God and the Bible. Every pastor knows, we humans are all subject to struggles of various kinds. Even those who already believe in Christ can sometimes struggle with and question things about God, Christianity, and the Bible. The book aims to help the struggler move from doubt, questions, and unbelief to a strengthened faith and belief in the true God of the Bible. It's also an equipping tool for pastors and congregants, to help the helpers as thy assist friends and family members who struggle with some of these questions. The interview brings insight into the need for this kind of apologetics. Topics Nick addresses include: A God Who Condones Genocide A God Who Says Some Love Is Wrong A God Who Lets Bad Things Happen To Good People A God Who Doesn't Answer My Prayers
Aaron is joined by his long time friend Nick Cady, to dive deep into the fascinating theological topic of eschatology. Eschatology is a topic that often leaves many Christians feeling confused and overwhelmed. With its complexities and differing perspectives, it's no wonder why this subject can sometimes seem daunting to navigate. Nick aims to provide clarity and understanding by delving into the various views and shedding light on the intricacies of eschatology. Together, Nick and Aaron will explore the four main views of eschatology, shedding light on the differences and similarities between them. They will also delve into the role of Israel in eschatology and discuss the nuanced differenced between the perspectives of the pre-millennial view and the dispensationalist view. The conversation will also touch on how our eschatology can impact our ethical beliefs and shape our Christian identity, ministry, and practice. Whether you've found yourself pondering eschatological differences, or grappling with the role of Israel in end times beliefs, this episode is here to help. Nick comes from the pre-mil perspective himself, but is respectful towards all the main views. This conversation will help guide you through the maze of eschatological theories in a balanced and gracious way, unraveling the confusion and offering insights that will empower you to develop a well-informed perspective on this significant theological topic. Topics Covered:
October 3, 2023 marks ten years since the passing of Pastor Chuck Smith, who was the man God used to start the Calvary Chapel Movement of churches. In this bonus episode, Nick Cady speaks with Brian Brodersen about Chuck Smith's approach to ministry, including some questions about how Chuck pastored personally, what were challenges and struggles he faced in ministry, and what were the major influences that shaped Chuck's theology, and his preaching. Pastor Brian is uniquely qualified to speak to these questions, as he not only served alongside Pastor Chuck and eventually succeeded him as the senior pastor of Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa, but he also shares close family ties to Pastor Chuck, as his son in law. We'd love to hear feedback from you on these episodes. You can email us at cgn@calvarychapel.com
In this final episode of Season 4, Brian Brodersen and Nick Cady speak with Clay Worrell. Clay is the Executive Director of Calvary Global Network since 2022. Prior to that, he planted and pastored a church in Waterford City, Ireland, and more recently, he pastored a church in the Bay Area of California. In this discussion, Clay shares what it was like coming back to the United States after years in Ireland and how different cultural contexts shape the way you do ministry. Additionally, they discuss the merits of short-term mission trips and how to make them effective and successful for long-term fruitfulness. We would love to hear feedback from you on these episodes. You can email us at CGN@calvarychapel.com.
Nick and Mike spend time answering some questions that have come our way about preaching while in pain (both physical and emotional), some objections about Christ centered preaching (isn't this just shoehorning Jesus into passages that He isn't actually referenced in?) some of the practicalities about women teaching the Bible in complementarian churches, addressing controversial topics (and sinful practices) from the pulpit while remaining gracious in tone and avoiding "Christianese" in preaching so that we are intelligible to visitors. Jeremy Treat is the Pastor for preaching and vision at Reality LA, a church in Los Angeles, California. He is also an Adjunct Professor of theology at BIOLA University, and he has his PhD from Wheaton College. Jeremy is the author of several books. His latest book is The Atonement: an Introduction, published by Crossway Publishing as part of their series of Short Studies in Systematic Theology. In this episode, Jeremy speaks with Nick Cady about the doctrine of the Atonement, including what it means, and why it is so central to Christianity. They also discuss some common errors that people commit when thinking about the atonement, and how many of these errors are due to a view of the atonement which is reductionistic. Further, they talk about the practical implications of those different reductionist views. Jeremy believes that the best narrative in which to understand the atoning work of Jesus is that of the Kingdom of God, in light of the entire story that the Bible tells. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/theologyforthepeople/support
The Bible holds its greatest meaning and richness when interpreted through the lens of Jesus-shaped goggles, revealing its Main Character and guiding us towards explicitly Christian sermons. It is through this transformative perspective that the profound wisdom of the scriptures emerges, showcasing how each passage, story, and verse converges to illuminate the life, teachings, and grace of Jesus. Nick Cady and Mike Neglia joined forces to lead an enlightening workshop the picturesque setting of Boise Idaho. Their mission was to equip attendees with the tools to deliver Gospel-centered sermons that resonated with the essence of the gospel from any part of the Bible.Throughout the event, participants immersed themselves in a captivating atmosphere of learning, exploration, and revelation. They learned to discern the gospel's truth and significance in every page of the Bible, discovering how its messages beautifully interweave with the redemptive narrative of Jesus Christ. With eloquence and expertise, the speakers showcased the power of preaching with authenticity, relevancy, and heartfelt conviction. Participants were encouraged to connect biblical truths with the real-life experiences and struggles of their audience, bridging the gap between the ancient texts and contemporary challenges. The ultimate goal was to point people towards the transformative power of the gospel, urging them to embrace the profound love, redemption, and grace found in Christ. As the event concluded, the attendees left equipped and inspired to proclaim the gospel from every passage, impacting lives and transforming hearts with the eternal truth of Jesus's love.Recommended Episodes: How to Preach Christ from Every Text: https://www.expositorscollective.com/podcast/2019/3/26/episode-40-how-to-preach-christ-from-every-text Heralding the Voice of Christ - Glen Scrivener : https://www.expositorscollective.com/podcast/2021/5/18/heralding-the-voice-of-christ-glen-scrivener Showing the Gospel in All of Scripture: https://www.expositorscollective.com/podcast/2020/10/7/showing-the-gospel-in-all-of-scripture-char-brodersen-pete-nelson-mike-neglia Is it a stretch to say that everything in the Bible points to Jesus? -https://anchor.fm/theologyforthepeople/episodes/Christ-Centered-Hermeneutics---Part-1-Is-it-a-stretch-to-say-that-everything-in-the-Bible-points-to-Jesus----with-Mike-Neglia-e17q0sdResponding to Objections to Christ-Centered Hermeneutics: https://anchor.fm/theologyforthepeople/episodes/Christ-Centered-Hermeneutics---Part-2-Responding-to-Objections-to-Christ-Centered-Hermeneutics---with-Mike-Neglia-e18563k For information about our upcoming training events visit ExpositorsCollective.com The Expositors Collective podcast is part of the CGNMedia, Working together to proclaim the Gospel, make disciples, and plant churches. In this episode, Nick Cady and Jason Cralley respond to the best arguments for Biblical Unitarianism, the a non-Trinitarian interpretation of biblical texts about who God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are. In doing this, they look at the history of Arianism and Trinitarian formulations of who God is, including a discussion about Constantine and the First Council of Nicaea, and the Nicene Creed. Further, they look into the arguments put forth regarding certain Biblical passages that Unitarians point to as evidence of God's non-trinitarian, or unitarian nature, and give a defense for trinitarian beliefs. In recent years it has become increasingly popular for people who grew up in Christianity to go through a process of “deconstruction” in which they seek to examine and question the origins of their beliefs. Deconstruction isn't always a bad thing, but the deconstruction movement, powered by social media, largely targets younger people and encourages them to cast off their Christiaan beliefs. This episode of Theology for the People is the recording of a workshop which Nick Cady and Aaron Salvato co-lead at the 2023 Calvary Global Network International Conference on the Topic of Doubt and Deconstruction. We start out by defining deconstructionism and examining its philosophical roots, then we look at the impact of this movement and some of the common themes in its claims. Finally, we discuss a Biblical response to doubt and deconstruction and give some helpful tips for addressing the questions that those who are deconstructing may have. After much prayer and consideration, I've decided to pursue a Master's Degree in Applied Biblical Leadership under the mentorship of Professor Gary Breshears at Western Seminary. This journey means a lot to me, yet it has presented some financial obstacles. I've always tried my best to support myself as much as possible through working with my hands and mind, but recently I lost my main side client that was helping me pay for Seminary tuition. In light of this, I am humbly reaching out for your assistance to make this vision a reality. If you feel led, contributions can be made at GoodLion.org/help. All donations will directly support my seminary payments. I have no expectations of anyone other than Christ. I am simply just throwing out an ask and seeing if the Lord speaks to anyone about helping. I fully trust He will provide in whatever what He chooses, and I would ask that if you don't feel led to help, please just keep me in prayer that the Lord would lead, guide, and provide! Since our preaching builds, affirms and creates the culture of our churches, it is vitally important that we emphasize and consistently hold out not only the gospel itself, but the cultural implications thereof. In this workshop, given at the CGN International Pastors and Leaders Conference in Costa Mesa California back in June of 2022, Mike Neglia, Tim Chaddick and Nick Cady speak about the opportunities (and limitations) of the pulpit for shaping, upholding and communicating gospel culture in the lives of our churches. “As the pastor, you are the primary shaper of the church's culture. Because you preach most frequently, your beliefs and values are far more influential in steering the culture of the church. What matters to you usually defines what matters to the church. This influence is a grave privilege” - Deepak Reju + Jeremy PierreNick Cady is the lead pastor of White Fields Community Church in Longmont, Colorado.Prior to moving to Longmont in 2012, Nick spent 10 years as a missionary, pastor and church planter in Hungary working with Calvary Chapel. Expositors Collective is an organization that hosts training events and provides resources to help people grow as Bible teachers and preachers of God's Word. Recently, Expositors Collective came into formal relationship with CGN. Teaching, according to the Bible, is a Spiritual gift, and it is also a skill which can be developed and improved. What is the relationship between the spiritual gifting of teaching, and the responsibility to steward that gift by doing your best to make sure you are rightly dividing and effectively communicating the "Word of Truth"? As Christians, we all engage with the Bible at some level, so even if someone isn't preaching sermons on Sunday mornings, they will likely have many opportunities to share Biblical truth and wisdom with others. For this reason, it is important for us to grow in both our private study and our public proclamation of God's Word. In this episode, Nick Cady speaks with Kellen Criswell and Mike Neglia about the history of Expositors Collective and what are some of the unique elements of it, as well as how Expositors Collective works with CGN in our mission to Proclaim the Gospel, Make Disciples, and Plant Churches. Listen for a clip from Pastor Chuck Smith about sermon preparation and how it works together with the anointing of the Holy Spirit. We'd love to hear feedback from you on these episodes. In this engaging and thought-provoking conversation Nick Cady and Mike Neglia speak with Robert Fergusson about the value of storytelling in preaching. Dr Uche Anizor speaks with Mike Neglia about two distinct categories of apathy that we as preachers need to contend with, first: the spiritual apathy of our own congregations, how can we awake our hearers out of their dullness and indifference with the truth and power of God's Word? And the second, and more insidious form of apathy that we must overcome is far more personal: what about us!? What about the preachers ourselves - we who handle holy things with such regularity, and are prone to burn out and our own forms of apathy and dullness, what be done for us to stir up the godly characteristic of zeal, when we find ourselves in seasons of dullness or apathy. Dr Uche Anizor is a theologian who teaches a variety of courses in systematic and historical theology to undergraduate students at Talbot School of Theology in BIOLA. His books include How to Read Theology and Representing Christ. He is married to Melissa and they have three children. His most recent book is published by Crossway and is entitled “Overcoming Apathy - Gospel Hope for Those Who Struggle to Care” Our next in-person Training Weekend for men and women of all ages will be in Boise, Idaho on October 14-15, 2022 at Calvary Boise.
