On this episode of Signature Leadership with Jamie Mason Cohen, Dr. Liane Davey delivers a powerful reframe on what's really driving burnout, overwhelm, and underperformance inside today's teams—and it's not what most leaders think. While many organizations continue to focus on reducing workload, Dr. Davey reveals a deeper issue: thought load — the invisible combination of cognitive overload, emotional burden, and depleted energy that quietly erodes focus, trust, and productivity.Drawing on decades of experience in organizational psychology, Dr. Davey explores why leaders often rush to tactics while overlooking the emotional reality their people are experiencing. She makes the case that emotional validation is not a “soft skill,” but a critical leadership capability. At the heart of the conversation is a memorable metaphor: when emotions rise, don't get distracted by the fire—look for the treasure. Beneath every moment of tension, resistance, or conflict is something that matters deeply to someone.Dr. Davey also shares insights on navigating constant change, reducing overwhelm through ruthless prioritization, and why creating intentional space—what she calls “Do More Nothing”—may be one of the most important disciplines for modern leaders.Chapters:00:00:00 Welcome to the Leadership Standard00:01:17 Meet Dr. Liane Davey / What If Burnout Isn't About Workload?00:03:28 Why Emotions Override Logic / The Missing Conversation in Leadership00:06:24 The Big Idea: Thought Load vs Workload / Why Work Isn't Working00:09:55 Case Study: When Teams Try to Do Everything at Once00:13:07 Mentorship That Sees the Whole Person / How to Handle Emotional Conversations00:16:15 The Fire vs The Treasure / Understanding What Emotions Protect00:19:55 Why Leaders Misread Emotions / Thought Load Beyond Work00:23:52 Appreciation and Community / Strengthening Connection in a Busy World00:26:11 Do More Nothing / The Counterintuitive Habit for Clarity and Energy00:27:15 Final Takeaways / The Leadership Shift That Changes EverythingTEC Canada is where the brightest minds in leadership gather. 137: Timothy Morton – Facing The Flames: Exploring Hell and Reality

The Sacred Speaks

In this episode of The Sacred Speaks, Dr. John W. Price sits down with Timothy Morton, philosopher, writer, and Rita Shea Guffey Chair in English at Rice University, for a wide-ranging conversation about hell, ontology, and what it means to live without an "outside." Morton is the author of Hell, along with numerous works on ecology, object-oriented ontology, and the entanglement of human and nonhuman worlds. Together, John and Morton explore hell not as an afterlife destination but as a lived condition of felt distance from the divine and deep entanglement with the biosphere. This conversation moves through ontology and how things exist, the critique of holism and mastery as tied to fascism and colonial habits of thought, the distinction between panic and grief as pathways to change, and why mystery, irony, and hesitation may be the most honest responses to reality. Morton frames social media as a continuation of 18th-century politics of sensibility, critiques metaphysics of presence and gnostic hierarchies, and suggests that paradise is not elsewhere but something we build inside hell. Rather than offering resolution, this episode invites listeners into an uncomfortable and generative encounter with the structures we inhabit without seeing. Key Takeaways: Timothy Morton defines ontology as how things exist and argues that our deepest assumptions about reality shape everything from ecology to politics. The conversation frames holism and mastery as colonial and fascist habits of thought, suggesting that ecology requires giving up the fantasy of total comprehension. Morton distinguishes panic from grief, proposing that panic is an ontological shock when our worldview cracks, while grief is the doorway through. The interview explores hell as an embodied, cultural structure rather than a metaphysical location, and suggests irony, hesitation, and mystery as reality signals. Morton reads William Blake as a poet of infinite narrators and weaponized gentleness, connecting the Lamb and the Tiger to questions of presence and paradox. What if showmanship isn't just flair, but a way of seeing the world? We open up the first public talk about our forthcoming book, born from years of touring, early mornings, and 160+ podcast episodes, and share how a single poem became the spine for a philosophy of performance. As the lines were learned by heart, their meanings deepened, revealing a core image: the showman is the one who faces the other way, gathers a field of shared attention, and returns borrowed time as something refined. From that image, we chart four working maps. First, the live situation itself: performer, audience, and the emergent dimension we call the show. Second, the human being at the center—thinking, feeling, and willing—as both subject and material. Third, the anatomy of an act, where choices in rhythm, structure, tone, and risk make ideas visible. Fourth, the values under intent, the quiet logic behind why we elevate a volunteer or make a joke at their expense. Along the way, we read from a chapter that unpacks the true, the good, and the beautiful, reframing them as guiding stars for craft: truth as resonant inquiry, goodness as lived action that helps others flourish, and beauty as attention's welcome, from Baroque fugues to black metal's frost. To make it concrete, we imagine a three-ring circus under colored lights—blue for truth, red for beauty, green for goodness—where performers fail and try again, and sincerity becomes the real feat. We share practices you can use tomorrow: capture moments that resonate, look beyond your field for patterns, follow fear to find what you value, and translate insights into movement, text, and timing until they live in your hands. If you care about performance, creativity, circus, magic, or the craft of making meaning in front of people, this conversation offers language, tools, and a compass. If this resonated, subscribe, leave a five-star review, and share it with a friend who faces the other way. Bully, Duplicitous, Hypocritical, Arrogant, Juvenile, dishonest, Racist, Revengeful are the adjectives used to assess Donald Trump's presidency and leadership today, as we brace ourselves for a war; we thought wars were far from his America first agenda. Author of the Upcoming Book, Neoliberal Globalization Reconsidered: Unfair Competition and the Death of Nations, Rev. Renaldo McKenzie sits down with his twin brother, Ricardo McKenzie, and explored the failures of Trump's leadership in America and the World today. Renaldo begins with a terse and strident rebuke of the President for his double-steps, incendiary actions towards other leaders and turning his back on America First. Renaldo and Ricardo discusses the US-Israel's war with Iran in the Middle East and even go as far as to describe the Trump's declarations as empty, an attempt to save face as the regime in Iran did not change and the war seems to be dragging out further and creating a world crisis larger than Trump expected. Trump dragged the US into a war that was poorly planned and executed without informing US allies and has even injured American credibility in the world and long standing partnerships but now wants to go to war when we need those partnerships. It is quite foolish and daunting and arrogant to think we can upset the world and now ask them for their support. This is an intense episode of The Neoliberal Round Podcast which is a media and information Non-Profit platform aimed at making popular what was the monopoly. The Neoliberal Round is operated by Renaldo McKenzie and The Neoliberal Corporation.Visit us at https://anchor.fm/theneoliberal or https://youtube.com/ ⁨@RenaldoMckenzie⁩  The Neoliberal is at https://theneoliberal.com and https://renaldocmckenzie.comThe Neoliberal can be reached at info@theneoliberal.com or calling 445-260-9198.Subscribe for free and follow US!

The episode invites educators to rethink whose language practices are valued, whose are marginalized, and how teachers can act with intention and integrity within complex systems.

Are you really in control of your life, or are you being unconsciously driven by old stories, buried trauma, and misleading intuition? In this powerful episode of Mayim Bialik's Breakdown, Dr. Sue Morter—renowned international speaker, Bio-Energetic Medicine pioneer, and author of The Anatomy of Awakening—reveals how to finally break free from the narrative running your life and step into the highest version of yourself. Dr. Sue explains why anchoring into your present body is the key to escaping fear loops, anxiety, paranoia, nervousness, and survival-mode thinking...and how to transform that stuck energy into creativity, passion, movement, purpose, and unstoppable tenacity. She shares practical, real-world tools to shift your internal state, elevate your frequency, and choose a worldview where the universe is actually working for you, not against you. You'll learn how to tell when your intuition is misleading you—triggering false “unsafe” signals that hold you back from the next stage of life—and how to distinguish true guidance from subconscious fear. Dr. Sue breaks down the hidden implications of being driven by the trauma stored in your subconscious, and how to rewrite these old memories to unlock your next chapter. She reveals why “safety” shouldn't be your primary goal, and how energy vibration changes the moment your mind, body, and breath unite into wholeness. You'll also discover how meditation reconnects you to the soul, plus an accessible breakdown of chakras, levels of consciousness, and the vibrational frequency of love—along with the specific energy centers that determine your life path and soul purpose. Julia and I werediscussing the importance of documenting all the hard workwomen have been doing, all over the world, for a very longtime, to protect our sex-based rights.Personally, I have noticed that many more women arespeaking out today than were doing ten years ago, and evenbefore that. This is great! All newcomers are welcome andencouraged to be loud. I do my best to highlight their voices ina weekly series I publish on Substack titled FFS Friday, whereFFS stands for Female Free Speech. A lot of people see FFSand they think it stands for For F's Sake, and of course it doesmean that too. I just don't say that out loud.I reached out to several women to write chapters about thework women have been doing in their countries for severaldecades, and many stepped up to do so. Book episode! What happens when a policy meant to shape a nation reaches into the most intimate corners of a family's life? Journalist Barbara Demick'sDaughters of the Bamboo Grove becomes a prism for a China where babies vanish, families fracture, and two identical lives grow up worlds apart. One twin speaks Mandarin, the other English. One hides in a bamboo grove; the other lands in Texas. Demick joins The Jacob Shapiro Show to explore the lives shaped, and misshaped, by China's restrictive one-child policy. Shapiro and Demick probe the emotional aftershocks of separation, the uneasy collision of two cultures when twins are reunited across continents, and the moral ambiguity of institutions that believed they were doing the right thing.--Timestamps:(00:00) - Introduction and Guest Introduction(00:46) - Discussing the Book: Daughters of the Bamboo Grove(02:04) - Barbara's Journey and Discoveries in China(05:15) - The Impact of China's One-Child Policy(11:28) - Adoption and Family Planning in China(21:21) - Cultural and Demographic Shifts in China(25:35) - Cultural Juxtaposition of Twins(26:35) - Impact of COVID on US-China Relations(27:35) - Adoption and Diplomatic Relations(28:31) - Challenges for Chinese and American Families(30:57) - Adoptees as Cultural Ambassadors(32:02) - Religious Influences in Adoption(34:42) - Economic Comparisons Between Families(39:18) - Psychological Trauma of Adoptees(45:13) -Author's Career and Future Projects(50:27) - Upcoming Book on Berlin--Referenced in the Show:Barbara Demick - https://www.barbarademick.com/Daughters of the Bamboo Grove - https://www.barbarademick.com/book/daughters-of-the-bamboo-grove/--Jacob Shapiro Site: jacobshapiro.comJacob Shapiro LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/jacob-l-s-a9337416Jacob Twitter: x.com/JacobShapJacob Shapiro Substack: jashap.substack.com/subscribe --The Jacob Shapiro Show is produced and edited by Audiographies LLC. About KyleKyle Thiermann is a professional big-wave surfer, journalist, and creative director whose career bridges storytelling, advertising, and adventure. He's written for Men's Health, Surfer, and Outside Magazine, and helped shape campaigns for brands like Patagonia, Yeti, and Mudwater, with his ads and viral spots reaching over 100 million people. Kyle is also the author of One Last Question Before You Go: Why You Should Interview Your Parents Now, a deeply personal exploration of family, curiosity, and conversation. In this episode, Justin and Kyle dive into the fear that drives creativity, the lessons of surfing six-story waves, and how to use curiosity and courage to build a more meaningful creative life.Think Like A Game Designer is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.Ah-ha! Justin's TakeawaysDeadlines create gravity: Surrounding yourself with people you respect and setting clear deadlines are two of the most powerful tools for getting things done—it is the engine of creative work, which turn ambition into action and ensure you finish what you start. Proximity is an accelerant: Kyle's learned, both in the ocean and in his creative career, that the fastest way to improve is to surround yourself with people already doing the thing you're learning. Mentorship and shared goals create a rhythm of steady progress that's hard to find alone.Better questions equal better understanding: We're trained to have answers, but not to ask better questions and that's where understanding truly lives. Whether you're exploring a design challenge or rebuilding a relationship curiosity has the power to turn conversation into insight. Kyle's book about interviewing his parents is a masterclass in curiosity.Show Notes“The power of deadlines and more specifically, the fear of disappointing people I respect has driven my career.” (00:04:55)We start by talking about the writing group where Kyle and I met, guided by New York Times best-selling author Neil Strauss. Together we dig into how essential structure and accountability are for any creative project including the value of mentors, peers, and most of all, deadlines. If you've listened to this podcast before, you've heard me say it: deadlines are magic. They turn vague ambition into finished work.“Find the people that are doing the thing and hang out with them as much as possible.” (00:15:58)Kyle connects his life as a big-wave surfer to his creative process, showing that fear and mastery follow the same pattern. Whether you're paddling into six-story waves or starting a new creative career, the fastest way to grow is to surround yourself with people already doing what you aspire to do. Mentorship, proximity, and shared accountability accelerate progress more than any course or tutorial ever could. “Copywriting is much more like stand-up comedy, where you're trying to take an idea and distill it down to its most essential form that's going to get someone's attention and connect them to this thing that you are selling.” (00:34:49)Kyle compares copywriting to stand-up comedy and it's a perfect analogy. Both rely on timing, clarity, and emotion. Every word has to earn its place. For designers, writers, and storytellers, the lesson is simple: your job isn't to explain, it's to distill. When you can make someone feel something in a single line, you've revealed its essence, making it easier for your audience to understand, and therefore, to buy.“We're taught to have the right answers, but never taught to have the right questions.” (00:51:56)Kyle wrote a book about interviewing his partents. His book grew out of realizing that curiosity—especially toward the people closest to us—is a learned skill. We train for answers, but not for questions, and that leaves entire parts of our relationships unexplored. As Kyle discovered, interviewing is about transforming judgment into curiosity. Asking better questions of our parents, our collaborators, or ourselves is how we rediscover the people we thought we already knew.* Kyle's Upcoming Book: https://geni.us/onelastqbeforeyougo* Kyle's Website: https://www.kylethiermann.com/ This is a public episode. In this special tribute episode of the Tactical Living Podcast, hosted by Coach Ashlie Walton and Sergeant Clint Walton, we pause to remember Charlie Kirk, his impact, his convictions, and the life he lived in pursuit of truth, faith, and service. As news of his death touches the nation, we also look forward to the book he left behind: Stop, in the Name of God: Why Honoring the Sabbath Will Transform Your Life (Amazon Affiliate), due December 9th. We reflect on the legacy he left, what defined him, and what we can still learn from his life. Whether you agreed with all his views or not, Charlie's story holds lessons about courage, conviction, rest, and what it means to stand for something beyond yourself. 10 Things People Should Know & Remember About Him: Charlie was the co-founder of Turning Point USA, a youth activism organization, started when he was just 18. He was a passionate advocate for free speech, civic engagement, and conservative values, often speaking directly to young people on college campuses. He had a strong spiritual life; in later years he practiced honoring the Sabbath and explored how rest and faith intersect. He was set to publish Stop, in the Name of God: Why Honoring the Sabbath Will Transform Your Life on December 9, 2025— a book that offers spiritual wisdom about rest, presence, and resisting the busyness of modern life. After his tragic death, his podcast and books saw a surge in interest—people wanting to re-hear his voice, re-read his work, and reflect on what he stood for. He believed rest and spiritual sabbath were not just spiritual luxury but radical acts of resistance against anxiety, distraction, and cultural exhaustion. Charlie often emphasized the importance of family, faith, and a moral code in shaping character and purpose. He challenged listeners to think deeply about their identity beyond political alignment—about what you believe, and how belief shapes how you live. Despite controversy, his ability to mobilize and influence young people—encouraging them to get involved, speak up, and defend their values—was significant. His legacy continues through the movement he built, the people he inspired, and now through his writings, including the upcoming Sabbath book that invites readers to reclaim rest. What Stop, in the Name of God Offers & Why You Should Pre-Order: It teaches how honoring the Sabbath isn't rejection of productivity, but a pathway to peace, rest, and deeper connection. Offers practical spiritual wisdom—tools to unplug, recharge, and reconnect with faith, family, and self. In a culture obsessed with hustle and noise, it's an invitation to reclaim what truly matters and to resist perpetual busyness. Why This Episode Matters: Charlie Kirk's life was full of passion, friction, faith—and now, in his passing, reflection. His upcoming Sabbath book adds another layer to his message: that rest and identity are intertwined, and that you can't sustain impact without renewing your soul. For first responders, this is especially resonant: we're often called to serve, protect, and hustle—but what happens when we don't learn to rest? This episode is for remembering, for honoring, and for asking: How might honoring rest change your life?

What if the very tests your doctor says are “normal” are actually missing the real reason you feel exhausted, foggy, anxious, or out of balance? For millions of people, thyroid issues are at the heart of their symptoms — yet they're often overlooked, misdiagnosed, or mistreated.   In this episode of the HEAL with Kelly Podcast, I sit down with McCall McPherson, PA-C — a physician associate, TEDx speaker, and founder of Modern Thyroid Clinic — to uncover the truth about thyroid health and the issues with how the conventional model addresses it. McCall shares both her medical expertise and her personal journey with hypothyroidism, shedding light on why so many patients aren't getting the answers they need and what we can do differently.   Together, we explore the crucial differences between Hashimoto's, Graves', and hypothyroidism, why relying on TSH markers alone misses the bigger picture, and the labs that actually matter. We talk about the role of inflammation, toxins, and stress in autoimmune thyroid disease, as well as the hidden connections between thyroid health, heart disease, diabetes, and cognitive decline.   McCall also opens up about controversial topics many doctors don't discuss — from the risks of birth control and misconceptions about hormone replacement therapy to the overuse of GLP-1 drugs. And she offers practical, empowering lifestyle shifts — from food to relationships to microdosing peptides — that can make a profound difference in daily health.   This is an eye-opening and life-changing conversation for anyone who has ever been told their labs are “normal” but still knows something isn't right. My guest is Michael Easter, a professor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and best-selling author. We discuss how particular daily life choices undermine our level of joy, our sense of purpose, our physical and our mental health and the daily, weekly, monthly and yearly steps we can all take to vastly increase our level of motivation, gratitude and overall life satisfaction. We discuss how effortful foraging for information, undistracted reflection and physical exercise are ways to ‘invest' and therefore grow our levels of dopamine, energy and motivation, whereas low-friction activities are specifically designed to hijack or diminish them. We also discuss dopamine reward circuitry in the context of how to build and reset one's energy levels and create a deeper sense of purpose in work, creative pursuits and relationships.
