With a new administration beginning in Washington this week, the importance of pragmatic and effective state and local officials is clearer than ever. That was the message from former U.S. Secretary of Transportation and NewDEAL alum Pete Buttigieg when he spoke at our 2024 Leaders Conference. His remarks are a vital reminder of the key role state and local policymakers play in delivering results and making everyday life better for the American people. After his opening remarks, Buttigieg, who was then appearing in his official capacity as Secretary of Transportation, joined MSNBC's Symone Sanders Townsend to look towards the future, sharing advice for how the country can move forward into a new, brighter future. This conversation is an excellent reminder of the type of leadership the country so desperately needs at this moment. IN THIS EPISODE: [01:04] The former secretary's insights on the importance of pragmatic and effective state and local officials. [01:55] Why our work is not done and some key areas to consider. [03:10] “The Big Deal” from the Biden-Harris Administration. [06:50] Why former Secretary Buttigieg believes that local leaders are so important for the present moment. [07:30] Staying abreast of the different ways that people get their information. [10:30] Understanding the nature of infrastructure work. [14:25] Buttigieg's posture towards his successor. [17:00] What a new administration might mean for federal infrastructure funds. [19:27] Insight into former Secretary Buttigieg's journey to the Department of Transportation. [22:35] Why a lot of his work in infrastructure and transportation has been nonpartisan in nature. [24:13] The term middle class and why it has become largely meaningless. [29:08] What is most important: making the lives of everyday people better.

For many of us who are active in the Italian American community, there exists a common, existential fear, a constant refrain that can be heard at Lodge meetings and Sunday dinners alike… “The young people aren't interested in being Italian!" But we decided to challenge this terrifying assumption by providing an opportunity for Italian America's most dedicated young leaders to meet, mingle, and consider our proud community's present -- and future -- state. “Inspiring,” "incredible," "life-changing"... these are just some of the words used to describe the inaugural Italian American Future Leaders Conference held this past weekend at the FLA Live Arena in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. We at the Italian American Podcast are proud to have played a role in this first-of-its-kind event that brought together more than 100 young, active Italian Americans between the ages of 21-35, the future leaders of our community from across the United States and Italy. In this week's episode, some of those rising stars are sharing their experiences with our listeners. From the tribal camaraderie to developing a shared mission to singing along with Italian American favorites at a closing karaoke party, this year's delegates were able to create bonds that won't soon be broken. If you've ever been concerned about the future of our Italian American community, you won't be after listening to this week's episode. Since our preaching builds, affirms and creates the culture of our churches, it is vitally important that we emphasize and consistently hold out not only the gospel itself, but the cultural implications thereof. In this workshop, given at the CGN International Pastors and Leaders Conference in Costa Mesa California back in June of 2022, Mike Neglia, Tim Chaddick and Nick Cady speak about the opportunities (and limitations) of the pulpit for shaping, upholding and communicating gospel culture in the lives of our churches. “As the pastor, you are the primary shaper of the church's culture. Because you preach most frequently, your beliefs and values are far more influential in steering the culture of the church. What matters to you usually defines what matters to the church. This influence is a grave privilege” - Deepak Reju + Jeremy PierreNick Cady is the lead pastor of White Fields Community Church in Longmont, Colorado.Prior to moving to Longmont in 2012, Nick spent 10 years as a missionary, pastor and church planter in Hungary working with Calvary Chapel. He holds a Bachelors degree in Theology from the University of Gloucestershire (UK) and a Masters degree in Integrative Theology from London School of Theology.Nick is on the steering committee of the Expositors Collective, a growing network of pastors, leaders, and laypeople which exists to equip, encourage, and mentor the next generation of Christ-centered preachers by hosting training seminars and providing resources, including a weekly podcast. He also serves with Calvary Global Network as a Local Connector and has developed Cultivate, a program to assess, train, and deploy new church planters and missionaries. You can keep up with Nick on Twitter at @nickcady, on Instagram at @cadynick, or by subscribing to the White Fields Church podcast.Tim Chaddick is the Pastor for Preaching at Reality Ventura and Founding Pastor of Reality Church London and Reality LA. A native to California, Tim's first ten years of church-planting ministry started as the Lead Pastor of Reality LA in 2006, a thriving church in the heart of Hollywood, before planting Reality London in the UK in 2016.
