Welcome to Conversations with Catt The Podcast. This podcast was born from the idea that we, as humans, are not always subject to walk the path we think has been laid out before us. Join host, Karen Catt, as she dives deep into conversations with her guests' and learns how their ideas and beliefs have shifted due to a single traumatic event, a specific eye-opening experience, or a radical new thought that presents itself and left the person questioning everything they ever believed to be true. We are here on this Earth and have been given an extraordinary opportunity to truly connect with each other. To listen deeply to one another. And ultimately, together we can share the joy this world has to offer. This is what I hope Conversations with Catt will bring to the world. Thank you for choosing to listen. I hope you enjoy every conversation.

Last week I referenced that the American Dream has changed from owning land and a home to owning a business. I was wrong. In researching more about the subject I discovered the original American Dream was “the pursuit of happiness”. It's written right into our Declaration of Independence. In this episode I got to catch up with Jasmine Allen, one of our Ellis Fund parents. Her daughter, Amira is very shy about speaking in public, but she does join our conversation occasionally. Before we begin, we would like to set the stage for our listeners to understand parents of a child diagnosed with cancer are not forewarned or prepared to face the upheaval of their lives. These parents are living a normal life, then one day they make the usual trip to the grocery store and that evening find themselves making decisions to fight for their child's life. Parents are thrown into a whirlwind of hospital rooms and medical procedures while trying to comprehend the medical terminology swirling around them. This is how Jasmine's routine got interrupted on New Year's eve of 2012.Apply to the Confident Living Program --- CLICK HERE!Episode Links:Ronald McDonald House Charities - WebsiteThe Ellis Fund - WebsiteCaring Bridge - WebsiteB-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in Children - WebMDWhat is the difference between an IEP and a 504 Plan? What is propofol?Show links:Patreon - Support the PodcastThe Ellis FundContact CattSpecial Thanks & CreditsAdelino Mendes - Audio Editing & Website Design (Branson, MO)Cassie Potts - Podcast Production (Springfield, MO)Kenneth Peterson - Graphic Design (Chicago, IL)Music Credit: Spirited Away by Gyom

Today I will share insight around the “tough-love” answer to the question: “How did I get here?” It gives you a sense of the flavor of the approach in my Confident Living program. It gives insight into what we cover in the first session's topics around why we make the choices that we make. We can no longer allow ourselves to get into circumstances we don't like or blame other people for where we are in life. This episode will share two personal examples that demonstrate why we make the choices that we make and how we learn to find better methods of decision-making.Apply to the Confident Living Program --- CLICK HERE!A special thanks to our sponsor FitbyD. Back on Episode 60 with guest Mary Jane Holmes we promised a follow up interview with with her “daughter”, Mary Scott. Today Mary Scott candidly reveals emotions while talking us through their personal experience with mental illness activism and their own gender identity. Once again, this podcast episode was not recorded or aired to stir up controversy. I felt like it just made sense to ask someone who is in the midst of our societal transformation to speak WITH me, rather than for me speak ABOUT them. Admittedly, I am mostly clueless about many of the issues those going through gender identity transformations face and I used this opportunity to learn more about it and understand their journey. *Trigger Warning* At the beginning of this episode I share that we are discussing very sensitive topics of suicide and gender identity. I emphasize my point to listen DEEPLY to our guest as a parent who loves her children. Please spare any judgmental comments regarding politically incorrect terms, statistics, or religious/moral positions. The point of this podcast is never about stirring up controversy. I'd like to thank Mary Jane for being willing to share this extremely painful and sensitive conversation with us. She is still in the depths of this transition. Tim, (MJ's husband and Sam and Scottie's father) wasn't ready to share publicly and we totally understand and honor that. Another tiny house episode! This one is about discovering internet space savers. Living in a Tiny House has forced me to consider the minimalist lifestyle options available. It’s also opened my eyes to how much living space I take up, not only in my own home but in my community and on Earth. In our last episode we talked about when something comes into our lives we must decide on what to remove to make room for it. And vice versa, whenever something has to be removed from our life it allows room for something else to enter and fill up that empty space. I am learning to be aware of how my life impacts those around me and I know you, my listeners, are too. I hope this episode allows us all to make a little space to include each other in our lives.Patreon - Support the PodcastEpisode links:Importance of Cell Phone Recycling ArticleShow links:The Ellis FundContact CattSpecial Thanks & CreditsAdelino Mendes - Audio Editing & Website Design (Branson, MO)Cassie Potts - Podcast Production (Springfield, MO)Kenneth Peterson - Graphic Design (Chicago, IL)Music Credit: Spirited Away by Gyom

There is no doubt that the housing market is constantly transforming. And seeing as that’s the underlying theme of our show, we decided to discuss how the current housing market situation has recently transformed with an expert in the field. Other agents might listen and learn some tips and tricks they can utilize to become a top performer in today’s volatile real estate economy. Contemplating our identity is nothing new. Having a mid-life crisis, understanding how to follow our bliss, and trying to figure out how to overcome imposter syndrome has plagued many of us for several generations.Today I talk about one of the strongest identities that I connected with...being a mother. I was recently a guest on another podcast and the question was asked if I still identify as a mother since my only child died. My answer? No. This answer might shock some but I haven’t identified myself as a mother for many years. Brent & Jocelyn both grew up on family farms in Nebraska, they met at church near Brent’s family farm and then got married. Life was like a storybook dream come true. As I focused on Earth Day, I set out to the local farmer's market in search of a story about organic gardening. I stopped at a booth to buy some farm-fresh meat but what I got was so much more. From the moment we struck up a conversation I knew Brent & Jocelyn Epps of Thrive Farms, LLC was supposed to be on the show. What piqued my interest was the regenerative soil practices they have been using for five years.Today we talk all about Regeneration Agriculture. It has nothing to do with going back to how our ancestors farmed and actually the term “regeneration” refers specifically to the soil, nurturing it to be as healthy as it was generations ago. I've always been a fan of being in nature. I grew up playing outdoors and learning to love the land from the farmers in my town. In 1992 my son was born in Minneapolis, MN and when we discovered his cancer at 2 months old we went back to all natural, mostly organic, whole foods. We had moved to Minneapolis in 1990 where I worked for Dayton’s. They celebrated Arbor Day by giving out saplings as a "gift with purchase" to their customers. I was hooked! That eventually led me to love Earth Day.Earth Day…it’s my favorite day, I celebrate it every day of the year! Naturally, it’s our theme for the entire month. (“Naturally” - Get the pun?) She helped reshape an entire industry. Her transformation story lies in how she managed to completely redirect a standard belief that the construction industry was meant only for men. To celebrate the upcoming ONE-YEAR anniversary of the podcast, we're reliving some of our favorite episodes. First up, Elise Crain. In this episode, Elise shares her story of how she helped shift the ideas of a previously male-dominated industry to allow women to gain their seats at the table. As an active member of her community, Elise has served on multiple councils & boards over the years. She has spoken at several live local events and been featured in multiple news reports and business journals. She is a staple in the community who shows her support by staying active and being constantly involved. Elise is so much fun to listen to and I wish you could see the twinkle in her eyes as she shares her story of transformation. She’s witty and smart and has an absolute heart of gold. The most important message Elise wants you to hear is to always have one hand reaching up and one hand reaching back to bring someone else along. Caution: When we feel overwhelmed we tend to exaggerate every little thing, making everything ball up into one big problem. Last week when life was sailing on smooth waters these little things were barely noticeable. We drop our apartment keys or broke our favorite coffee mug, we sigh and move on, maybe even using this as a reason to treat ourselves to a new mug. But when we are stressed we start tallying up the list and we burst when we reach our “last straw”. Which looks something like a mild freak out leading up to an explosive, “REALLY! MY FAVORITE COFFEE MUG?!” We’ve all been there and at this point, a lot of us are there right now. This is a very important time to keep our perspective. My theme for February is “Show Me What Love Can Do,’’ starting with Acting in Love Instead of Acting Out of Fear. Do you have autophobia, the fear of being ignored, alone or unloved? Or maybe atelophobia, the fear of not being good enough? Or even pistanthrophobia, the fear of trusting others or getting hurt in romantic relationships?Patreon - Support the PodcastEpisode Links:Lung Article - The GuardianHealing Lungs - PlushCare.comForest Bathing - The BookShow links:The Ellis FundContact CattSpecial Thanks & CreditsAdelino Mendes - Audio Editing & Website Design (Branson, MO) Cassie Potts - Podcast Production (Springfield, MO) Kenneth Peterson - Graphic Design (Chicago, IL)Music Credit: Spirited Away by Gyom
In today’s episode, we're talking about trust. You might ask, “Trust in who? Trust in what?” Basically, what I’m referring to are times when we get into making big decisions in our lives, where do we go? How do we make those decisions? How do we know if we are making the “right” decisions? As you can guess I am personally in the middle of a transition which means we are making some big decisions. You’ve heard me mention we are moving to Colorado. Ironically, when I used to meet people who had moved here to Missouri with no job, no place to live, no plan and they were figuring all that out after they arrived here…I used to think those people were crazy.Well, now I’m one of the crazy ones. Enjoy this episode and I hope a piece of what you find is the catalyst for you to allow transformation in your life. Pamela Hernandez, is the Medical Fitness Director for Sharlin Health and Neurology in Ozark, Missouri. She is responsible for overseeing the neuro fitness program at the clinic as well as working individually with clients where she teaches them how to use movement as medicine. She began our conversation by asking, “What’s one of your intentions for 2021?” I explained that one of my intentions for the year is to be comfortable using technology and all of its advantages. I really liked how she got right into it and got us going!Movement as medicine ties into the heart of functional medicine where they strive to understand the root cause of a condition and then determine what modifiable lifestyle factors are there to work with.I hope listening to this episode today is a catalyst for you to allow transformation for the life of your dreams.Patreon - Support the PodcastEpisode Links:Sharlin Health and Neurology in Ozark, MissouriType 1 diabetes Bank of AmericaE3 Women's ConferenceSharlin Health Neuro Fitness Facebook Group@shneurofitness on InstagramShow links:The Ellis FundContact CattSpecial Thanks & CreditsAdelino Mendes - Audio Editing & Website Design (Branson, MO) Cassie Potts - Podcast Production (Springfield, MO) Kenneth Peterson - Graphic Design (Chicago, IL)Music Credit: Spirited Away by Gyom

Oftentimes to live out our dreams we must take an incredible journey through fear. Our most inspirational and motivational stories are based on this premise. We read about these characters. We cheer them on in movies. We live out our dreams vicariously through their stories. We work out our personal lives through these movies and books. It doesn't matter if it’s fictional or real life. We imagine ourselves as the hero of that story. The paradox is, we all want to feel the elation of a miracle but we don’t want to be in the situation where we need to experience the miracle. We don’t want to go through a problem and get to a place where the only thing that can save us is a miracle.Patreon - Support the PodcastEpisode Links:How Does the American Dream Influence the US Economy?8 Reasons You Should Be Dreaming BiggerShow links:The Ellis FundContact CattSpecial Thanks & CreditsAdelino Mendes - Audio Editing & Website Design (Branson, MO) Cassie Potts - Podcast Production (Springfield, MO) Kenneth Peterson - Graphic Design (Chicago, IL)Music Credit: Spirited Away by Gyom
We can all certainly remark about what happened in our lives during 2020. How would you rate this year? Would you give it a few good marks? Or would you give it all bad reviews? This minisode came about after listening to a few friends who wanted to share their good news from 2020, but they were reluctant about other people who might frown upon their positive news because they had a much more negative experience and would not be happy for them. Unfortunately, some people will try to make others feel guilty about any good fortune. However, I’m glad my friends trusted me and knew me well enough to know that I would be happy for them. My guest today is someone I’ve known and respected for more than 13 years. A few weeks ago we were sitting together in a small group setting when she shared how her family had moved from California to Missouri and then recently moved again to another town in Missouri. What struck me was, I had heard parts of her story before but hadn't realized the numerous miracles throughout her journey. As you listen today, you’ll hear about Margie Lopez and her path that lead entire families and generations to move across the United States in an effort to help homeless teens.Patreon - Support the PodcastEpisode links:Dogwood Ranch - WebsiteDogwood Ranch - Healing ReinsECFA - WebsiteShow links:The Ellis FundContact CattSpecial Thanks & CreditsAdelino Mendes - Audio Editing & Website Design (Branson, MO) Cassie Potts - Podcast Production (Springfield, MO) Kenneth Peterson - Graphic Design (Chicago, IL)Music Credit: Spirited Away by Gyom

Today's guest is my friend Linda Mayhugh. Linda is an Angel Communicator. As an Angel Communicator - Linda relays messages to her clients using multiple modalities. She has amazing talent and helps us to understand what angels are and how they help to guide us through our lives. To me, knowing that Linda has a connection that I don't - is practical and magical. Even though she began noticing angels at a young age she did not feel comfortable telling anyone. But as she got older she started to realize the power she had been given and she now uses her abilities to share angel messages with her clients. I hope you enjoy this conversation about angels.Episode Links:Be Inspired Angels - Linda's WebsiteMetatron - DefinedSigns of Arch Angel SandalphonAnimal-Speak: The Spiritual & Magical Powers of Creatures Great & Small - BOOKShow links: The Ellis Fund | Contact CattSpecial Thanks & CreditsAdelino Mendes - Audio Editing & Website Design (Branson, MO)Cassie Potts - Podcast Production (Springfield, MO)Kenneth Peterson - Graphic Design (Chicago, IL)Music Credit: Spirited Away by Gyom
In today’s episode I share about four dreams I had that actually came to fruition in my real life. There were many different people who played a role in these dreams and if you’ve ever experienced a moment of déjà vu then you understand. I consider these “dreams” to be spiritual experiences that helped prepare me for the events to come. Each of these spiritual experiences shined a light on the middle of the path I was walking. I didn’t ask for any of them to happen, but I often find myself sharing about their significance in my life again and again. Today's episode is all about how to FIND gratitude rather than FORCING it...especially when what you really feel is stressed. If you often hear yourself muttering, “I SHOULD be grateful...” then this episode will relieve that obligation for you. This topic came about because many people use the month of November to post “30 Days of Gratitude” on their social media. And typically soon after I begin to hear in conversations with my friends, “I know I should be grateful for…” or “Is there something wrong with me? Because I feel frustrated with my situation...not grateful.” We cannot force it. It’s very much like finding happiness; the more you try to force it the more frustrating and elusive it gets. Do you know the difference between the terms: naturopath, homeopath, holistic or herbalist? We will clear that up for you in today’s episode with my doctor, Dr. Carolyn Hefner. In this time of a pandemic people are focused on their health so I thought it was a perfect time for this topic. Today's guest is my doctor. Dr. Carolyn Hefner was trained and practiced in Western medicine for many years when her personal experience with fibromyalgia turned her to seek alternative medicine. That worked so well for her that she opened The Ozark Herbalist to help others.Episode links:The Ozarks Herbalist WebsiteFibromyalgia - HealthLineEpstein Barr Virus - HealthLineShow links:The Ellis FundContact CattSpecial Thanks & CreditsAdelino Mendes - Audio Editing & Website Design (Branson, MO)Cassie Potts - Podcast Production (Springfield, MO)Kenneth Peterson - Graphic Design (Chicago, IL)Music Credit: Spirited Away by Gyom
The term “home-based” business recently took on a new meaning. Today almost EVERYONE who used to go to an office every day now works from home. With all the changes in today’s work environments more and more people are considering alternative options they would’ve rejected before. Today’s guest, Jennifer Bouse, has worked through 24 years of changes in one of the original home-based businesses, Mary Kay cosmetics. I have known Jennifer personally and admired her 20 of those years.
