Send Carla a message! What happens when you've tried every external change but still feel stuck? The answer might surprise you.Discover the hidden operating system that's silently running your life—what I call your "survival model." This outdated thinking pattern once helped you navigate challenges but has now become the very thing standing between you and the life you truly want. Through years of coaching, I've witnessed this pattern repeatedly: clients changing jobs, relationships, or locations only to find the same feelings resurfacing because they're bringing their internal operating system with them everywhere they go. The good news? It's a thinking problem, not a capability problem—and it can be transformed.Enjoy!Learn more about Carla:Website: https:/www.carlareeves.com/Connect on LI: https://www.linkedin.com/in/reevescarla/Connect on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@differentlythepodcastGo to https://carlareeves.com/freeclass to get The Class schedule, sign up, and/or pass it on to a friend. Send Carla a message! What happens when you realize your successful life feels completely empty inside? For Cara, a high-achieving sports industry professional, this uncomfortable question sparked a profound transformation from living to prove herself to others to intentionally designing an authentic life. The journey begins with recognition. Despite ascending in her male-dominated field and building an impressive career with NBA teams, Cara felt hollow and disconnected—successful on paper yet unfulfilled within. Her motivation had always stemmed from proving wrong those who said she couldn't achieve something or from pursuing an impossible standard of perfection. While this drive had served her career well, it left her personal life feeling inauthentic and draining."I truly think for a long time, it was always about how can you be the best? What's perfection? How are you constantly trying to prove yourself to others?" Cara reveals. This realization led her to examine what she calls her "survival model"—the collection of beliefs and behaviors that once helped her navigate her world but eventually became limitations. Through this process, she discovered the freedom that comes from shifting focus: from external validation to internal motivation, from needing every relationship to affirming her worth to cultivating deeper connections with fewer people who truly supported her growth. One of the most powerful metaphors Cara shares compares two approaches to life's challenges: "Buffalo run toward the thunderstorm while cows stand together and let it pass over them. The buffalo actually spends less time in the storm because they run towards it and deal with it." This philosophy has transformed how she handles discomfort, teaching her to face difficulties directly rather than attempting to outrun them.Today, Cara views her life as a canvas she gets to paint herself. Her journey demonstrates that creating change doesn't require waiting for perfect circumstances—it starts with present choices, regardless of your situation. Through practical tools like separating facts from stories and addressing small upsets before they accumulate, she shows that intentional living is an ongoing practice rather than a destination.Ready to examine whether your life brings you joy when you wake each morning? This conversation might just be your invitation to start painting your own canvas, exactly as you choose.Learn more about Carla:Website: https:/www.carlareeves.com/Connect on LI: https://www.linkedin.com/in/reevescarla/Connect on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@differentlythepodcastGo to https://carlareeves.com/freeclass to get The Class schedule, sign up, and/or pass it on to a friend. Send Carla a message!Ready for a fresh perspective? Forget about scrubbing floors and organizing closets—this episode explores the powerful practice of mental spring cleaning. Just as our windows collect dust, our mindset accumulates negative thinking patterns that color how we see everything in our lives.Through my work with hundreds of clients, I've witnessed how mental clutter disrupts productivity, decision-making, and overall wellbeing. Especially for entrepreneurs and business owners, we can become so fixated on strategy that we neglect our inner game—the thoughts and beliefs that actually drive our success.I share my proven three-step process for refreshing your mindset: first, emptying your thoughts through mindful journaling; second, organizing those thoughts into meaningful categories while identifying what you can and cannot control; and finally, intentionally choosing where to focus your attention moving forward. This isn't just about feeling better momentarily—it's about regaining your position in the driver's seat of your life.My clients consistently report that this daily practice transforms how they show up for their teams and families, brings clarity to decision-making, and helps them move through challenges with greater ease. If your mind is telling you that you don't have time for this, that's precisely when you need it most! Try this practice just once a week and watch how it shifts your energy, relationships, and leadership presence. After all, your mindset is with you 24/7—let's do everything we can to make it shine.Learn more about Carla:Website: https:/www.carlareeves.com/Connect on LI: https://www.linkedin.com/in/reevescarla/Connect on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@differentlythepodcastGo to https://carlareeves.com/freeclass to get The Class schedule, sign up, and/or pass it on to a friend. Send Carla a message!Diana Bresnan's journey from overwhelmed HR executive to someone who finds joy in watching sunsets offers a powerful lesson about not postponing happiness until "someday." What began with a chance meeting at a health fair led to a profound realization - Diana noticed she said the word "responsibility" over and over again in a forty-minute conversation, revealing the weight she carried daily.Like many high-achievers, Diana had fallen into the trap of putting her life on hold until retirement. "If I can just get through this, then I'll really start living," she thought. But through her work with Carla, she discovered that if she couldn't create fulfillment in her current circumstances, retirement wouldn't magically provide it either. The skills of presence, intentionality, and balance needed to be practiced now.Diana shares practical strategies that transformed her approach to work and life, including writing down thoughts to clear mental space, learning to say no, and prioritizing what truly matters each day. These simple yet powerful techniques helped her create more joy without sacrificing her professional performance - in fact, she found the balance actually made her a more effective leader. The most beautiful part of Diana's story comes in her successful transition to retirement, where she easily "turned off work like a light switch" and embraced a new chapter filled with reading, nature, and presence. Now when faced with new obligations that threaten to overwhelm, she recognizes the pattern and chooses differently. This conversation offers hope for anyone feeling trapped by responsibility or postponing joy until some future date. Diana's experience proves that by addressing our mindset and making intentional choices now, we can create fulfillment exactly where we are - making any future "someday" simply a bonus to an already beautiful life.Learn more about Carla:Website: https:/www.carlareeves.com/Connect on LI: https://www.linkedin.com/in/reevescarla/Connect on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@differentlythepodcastGo to https://carlareeves.com/freeclass to get The Class schedule, sign up, and/or pass it on to a friend. Send Carla a message!Something significant is shifting in our world, and you've likely been feeling it too. The familiar systems, structures, and approaches we've relied on are transforming before our eyes, demanding new ways of navigating life and work. This transformation isn't just happening in technology or politics—it's reaching into the very foundations of how we approach our daily lives.Throughout my journey of breaking free from societal expectations to embrace my authentic calling, I've discovered that periods of significant change require specific skills that many of us haven't fully developed. Mental resilience—the ability to adapt quickly while maintaining inner stability—stands out as perhaps the most crucial capability for these times. This isn't about forcing outcomes or clinging desperately to control, but rather learning to self-soothe, remain present, and trust the unfolding process even when we can't see the entire path ahead. What's particularly fascinating about this moment is how it's inviting us to heal aspects of ourselves that create "drag" in our lives—those old patterns, limiting beliefs, and emotional baggage that slow our forward movement. I've noticed that resistance and discouragement often signal imminent breakthroughs when approached with intention rather than avoidance. By focusing on the "invisible things" within our control—our thoughts, perceptions, and choices—we develop the grounded presence needed not only to navigate our own transitions but to guide others through theirs with calm confidence. Whether you're sensing collective change or facing specific personal transitions, there's extraordinary possibility waiting on the other side of uncertainty for those willing to embrace a different way forward.Join our free monthly virtual classes where we explore these concepts together through rich conversation, writing exercises, and community support. What change are you sensing, and how might you move through it differently? The world needs your unique gifts now more than ever.Learn more about Carla:Website: https:/www.carlareeves.com/Connect on LI: https://www.linkedin.com/in/reevescarla/Connect on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@differentlythepodcastGo to https://carlareeves.com/freeclass to get The Class schedule, sign up, and/or pass it on to a friend. Send Carla a message!Have you ever felt like your creative soul is crying out for space to breathe, but you can't quite hear what it's saying? This conversation with Katie Dalebout, author of "Let It Out: A Journey Through Journaling," might just be the permission slip you need to start listening.Katie's journey with journaling began during her recovery from an eating disorder when she intuitively reached for a colorful journal instead of another self-help book. What followed was a profound discovery—journaling provided a sanctuary where she could be completely honest about both her deepest fears and loftiest dreams without judgment. "It was the first time I was able to take all the masks off," Katie shares, "to just see who I was and get to know myself."The beauty of journaling lies in its versatility and healing power. Katie distinguishes between "maintenance journaling" (daily check-ins) and "SOS journaling" (emergency processing during life's challenges), comparing the practice to cleaning out a closet—things get messier before they get better. This metaphor perfectly captures why timing matters with journaling, as we sometimes need adequate space and energy to handle whatever emerges during the process. For creative souls, journaling serves as an essential tool for capturing ideas, making decisions, and maintaining creative momentum. Katie references Elizabeth Gilbert's powerful insight that "unused creativity is not benign," suggesting that neglecting our creative impulses leads to resentment and disconnection. "If I've touched a creative project daily," Katie notes, "I'm more pleasant to be around, more present, and more supportive of others."Whether you're a seasoned journaler, skeptical about the practice, or simply curious, this conversation offers fresh perspective on what putting pen to paper can truly do for your creative wellbeing. Ready to crack open your perspective on journaling and discover the wisdom already waiting within you? Grab your favorite pen—your future self will thank you.Links & Resources:Connect with Katie Dalebout:
