In this episode, Lisa and Beth discuss:Update on the recent delays in the 2024 FAFSA financial aid application.Navigating the college funding process more efficiently without being dependent on FAFSA outcomes. How to navigate financial aid filing deadlines for high school seniors and returning college students. Strategies to reverse engineer college affordability and align your teen's college choices with your family's financial realities. Key Takeaways: There are excellent reasons to complete both the FAFSA and the CSS Profile, regardless of your income. Schools evaluate households not only for need-based financial aid but also for merit-based financial aid and admission. Filling out the FAFSA and CSS Profile does not mean your student is required to use the student loans for which they qualify. The CSS Profile is more in-depth than the FAFSA. Filling out the CSS Profile in mid-October will prepare your family for FAFSA completion in mid-December.When you complete financial aid applications between 10 and 45 days after they open, you'll be near the front of the line for awards. The CSS Profile gives families with multiple students in college more financial options than the FAFSA does with the recent FAFSA changes. “If you're waiting for a government form to answer [if you can go to college], that isn't a plan. You can know that well in advance of completing those forms and you should.” – Beth WalkerEpisode References: FAFSA Site: https://studentaid.gov/apply-for-aid/fafsa/filling-outCSS Profile Site: https://cssprofile.collegeboard.org/About Beth Walker: Beth V. In this episode, Lisa and Beth discuss:The changes to federal financial aid are set to begin in 2024. Why parents should wait 10-15 days before applying with the new FAFSA application. How to take back your family's financial power and not rely solely on the government formula for your student's education budget. Strategies to handle the uncertainty of the college financial aid application process. Shifting the paradigm so your family doesn't end up college-poor. Key Takeaways: If your student's chosen college has a hard deadline for the FAFSA application, ask them if they have any grace periods on that deadline. Many deadlines can be more flexible than families realize. A known error in the formula in the 2024 federal financial aid application will result in many students and families receiving less aid this year than they will next year. Government aid is only one piece of the financial puzzle and should not be the main indicator of financial direction for your student's college experience. Think about college like buying a house - your student will want to be clear on their must-haves and their nice-to-haves and understand the difference between those when making a decision. “We can't let the government formula dictate how we're going to spend money…It's only one piece of the puzzle, but it shouldn't be driving the bus.” – Beth WalkerAbout Beth Walker: Beth is the author of Never Pay Retail for College. She is a mom on a mission, protecting parents during their most emotionally and financially vulnerable phase of life. Beth is all about helping other moms and dads create better futures - for the students heading off to college and the parents they leave behind.Beth's new book, Buy College Better (out in August 2023), will detail her formula for successfully“buying” college while saving tens of thousands of dollars on the overall cost of getting kids on their path to a better future. Beth's college FICO® score philosophy has helped parents maintain their current lifestyle and stay on track for retirement while sending their kids to schools that provide that “right fit” education. Have you considered having your grape growing operation sustainably certified? In this episode, I have a conversation with Beth Vukmanic from the Vineyard Team on the impact and importance of sustainability certification programs for vineyards. Beth spent 12 years overseeing the Vineyard Team's Sustainability in Practice (SIP) certification program and now serves as the executive director of the Vineyard Team. As it turns out, there are many benefits to having a SIP certification. These benefits range from having a positive environmental impact, access to different storefronts, better marketability, and increased financial benefits. The sustainability program has certified 47,000 vineyard acres, primarily in California but also in Oregon and Michigan as well as five wineries. Over 60 million bottles of wine have been produced in compliance with sustainability standards. Listen in to learn how SIP started, where it has evolved to today, and how it is impacting vineyards on the West Coast and beyond. In this episode, you will hear: Background of the Vineyard Team and how it has evolved. What sustainability in agriculture is. What the SIP certification is and why it's important. The importance of accountability and consistency in vineyard management. Where the SIP certification has evolved to today. The impact of a sustainability program on a winery. With the holidays fast approaching, you may feel more tempted to turn to alcohol as a stress reliever as you navigate through your divorce. Our guest today, Alcohol-Free Life Coach, Beth Purcell is here to share that there is a different way! Beth and Rhonda discuss: Beliefs around alcohol and how to change your mindset Challenge yourself to do a reset for clarity Keep your own side of the street clean There is no shame in asking for help! About today's guest: Beth is a certified This Naked Mind (Alcohol-Free) and Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, as well as a twice-divorced co parenting mom, yogi, and lifelong learner. Beth's decades'-long, near daily use of alcohol felt completely out of alignment with her livelihood in the wellness sector and with her personal values. She felt like a fraud, but was fearful that giving up drinking would prove too difficult, or would doom her to a life of less fun & constant feelings of deprivation. Instead, she found that letting go of alcohol was not only possible, but more transformational and joy-filled than she anticipated. So, this episode is dedicated to one of the most influential tools in our creative arsenal — video. Joining Jessie is today's guest expert, Beth Klepper. Beth started creating videos in kindergarten. With the neighborhood kids as her actors, brothers and sisters as pushy directors and producers, and an 80s-style camera always in hand, Beth discovered the power of video and storytelling very early in life. She earned her master's degree in film in London and moved from those early childhood neighborhood productions to spending almost a decade producing live entertainment and television shows for AXS TV. Beth has told a wide range of stories, producing reality shows, travel shows and celebrity gossip shows. She also produced live concerts for groups like “The Zac Brown Band,” “Def Leppard, “The String Cheese Incident" and many more. In 2014, Beth founded Mainstream Video Production, working with more than 130 organizations and creating more than 2000 videos. Mainstream continues to help businesses increase revenues, save hours and tell their stories through video. Mainstream specializes in full-service production (think storyboarding, shooting and editing) and supports those who want to DIY their videos through Mainstream's online Video Marketing 101 course. Beth also teaches Public Speaking and Interpersonal communication at Metro State University. So grab your headphones, settle in, and let's dive into the world of video! On today's episode, Jessie and Beth cover: Beth's career background, entrepreneurial journey, and how she founded her company How video can drastically enhance your marketing strategy, creating a more engaging and memorable experience for your audience The different types of video content, from explainer videos to customer testimonials, and how each can be used effectively to amplify your brand's message Tips on how to integrate video into your website, social media, and other marketing platforms How you can harness the power of video to increase your marketing's effectiveness And so much more! — Ready to elevate your brand? In this episode, Lisa and Beth discuss:The changes to NEED based financial aid for students attending college in 2024 or later. Why the changes are being made to the FAFSA application. The goal of making higher education more accessible to those who need financial help. Different financial aid forms: FAFSA versus the CSS Profile. Taking back control as consumers of college education. Key Takeaways: Every family is unique and has different financial needs. Understanding the application processes and changes is key to knowing what is best for your family. The Student Aid Index is how the college is going to look at your student's household for aid eligibility, not specifically what the student is expected to pay. Families with 2 or more students in college at the same time will see their costs increase based on the FAFSA alone. This is a student-centered process. There needs to be an integration between the student, their desired path, and affordability. “There's a strong belief that more schools are going to use the CSS Profile this year because that does offer the discount for multiple kids.” – Beth WalkerAbout Beth Walker: Beth is the author of Never Pay Retail for College. She is a mom on a mission, protecting parents during their most emotionally and financially vulnerable phase of life. Beth is all about helping other moms and dads create better futures - for the students heading off to college and the parents they leave behind.Beth's new book, Buy College Better (out in August 2023), will detail her formula for successfully “buying” college while saving tens of thousands of dollars on the overall cost of getting kids on their path to a better future. Beth's college FICO® score philosophy has helped parents maintain their current lifestyle and stay on track for retirement while sending their kids to schools that provide that “right fit” education. Beth is the founder of the Center for College Solutions, Senior Financial Specialist for Strategies for College, and a Wealth Advisor for Carson Wealth.Episode References:#009 How Smart Parents Find the Right School for the Right Price with Beth Walker#046 How to Recession Proof Your College Bound Journey with Beth Walker #032 Your College List: Financial Fit with Dr. Abigail SussmanList of CSS Profile Schools Get Lisa's Free on-demand video: How-to guide for your teen to choose the right major, college, & career...(without painting themselves into a corner, missing crucial deadlines, or risking choices you both regret). https://courses.flourishcoachingco.com/howtoguideyourteen-free-trainingConnect with Beth:Website: https://www.centerforcollegesolutions.com/ Email: beth@centerforcollegesolutions.com LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/centerforcollegesolutions.com/about/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/collegefundingcoaches/ Connect with Lisa: Website: https://www.flourishcoachingco.com/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@flourishcoachingco Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/flourishcoachingco/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/flourishcoachingco LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/lisa-marker-robbins/

If you are anything like us, you are feeling the chaos of the mad scramble to the end of the school year. We always know that May feels like this, but April seems like a blur that zoomed by, and now we find ourselves trying to get those IEP meetings and transition meetings done. Our guest knows exactly what IEP chaos looks and feels like as the mom of a special needs child. She is on a mission to help other parents and families deal with diagnoses and advocate for inclusion. Join us to learn more!Beth Leipholtz is the author of The ABCs of Inclusion, a nonfiction book for parents to read with their kids. The book details the journey of Beth's family and lets other parents know what to expect after diagnosis, and it includes the stories of 26 kids (one for each letter of the alphabet) with disabilities both seen and unseen. It is described as a picture book about disabilities that teaches kids that it's OK to be different. Her son, Cooper, was born deaf in 2019, so she jumped right into research, learning, and early intervention services. Her small school district in Minnesota began their involvement with Cooper right after his diagnosis at six weeks of age, and Beth cannot imagine where they would be without their amazing support system. Beth Berry has a revolution in her bones. Note: This episode's interview was recorded before the earthquake on the 16th of March, and our conversation about disaster preparedness does not talk about this latest big earthquake. I thought that would sound a bit weird for listeners so I spent a few minutes in the beginning of this episode discussing my family's experience of this latest big earthquake. We were lucky to not experience any major damage or injury, and thank you to everyone who reached out to check and see if we were all ok. As we pass the 11th anniversary of the 3-11 earthquake, tsunami and nuclear meltdown, it's a great time of year to refresh your memory of what to do when disaster strikes as well as check your preparations and have discussions with family about what actions you will take. Beth and Jayne have a fun but important discussion about this and how it has helped them to feel less anxious and more in control despite the sheer number of natural disasters that happen in Japan. If you enjoyed this episode and it inspired you in some way, we'd love to hear about it and know your biggest takeaway. Take a screenshot of yourself listening to the episode on your device, post it to your Instagram Stories, and tag me and Beth, https://www.instagram.com/transformationswithjayne/?hl=ja (@transformationswithjayne) and http://www.instagram.com/wanavijapan2011/ (@wanavijapan2011) or https://www.speakpipe.com/TransformationswithJayne (send us a message here.) In this episode you'll hear: How Beth has transitioned back to living in Australia after 14 years in Japan What is WaNavi and why you should know about what they do Why preparing for disasters actually helps you to feel more relaxed Some of Beth's top tips for preparing for a natural disaster wherever you are in the world About Beth: Beth is an Australian who lived in Japan for 14 years. After experiencing the 3.11 Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011 as a first-time mother, Beth attended WaNavi Japan's first charity Earthquake Preparedness Workshop and was inspired to join WaNavi. Beth has been on the Board of Directors since its establishment in 2011. She has a BA in Psychology and a Dip Ed in Primary Education and has worked in Primary school settings in Australia and Japan. She is currently studying Emergency and Disaster Management at Charles Darwin University and working as Primary Teacher whilst residing in Adelaide, Australia. Culture loves a good cat fight. Think Megan vs Kate. Angelina vs Aniston. It loves to make it seem like women are constantly hating on each other. Besides from being bulls**t, it's really damaging to peddle these narratives (but culture, as always, has a reason for doing it which is also toxic). I talk to comms expert Beth Collier about why and we plan our forthcoming Zoom brainstorm to creatively tackle this problem! (Join us - DM me/ suzy@bigjuicycreative.co.uk). Namely, the nasty narrative distracts from getting female voices heard - and, with all the problems with world is currently facing, we need more feminine qualities coming to the fore to solve them. Like empathy, collaboration, nurturing, listening, creativity..... Of course men can have these too but we're not exactly seeing them in spades from our male leaders right now, are we? Please note, no bras were harmed or burned in the making of this episode. Why on earth would we do that? Bras are bloomin' expensive. Beth Collier believes that when you improve your communications skills, you'll improve everything. Your performance. Your relationships. Your life. And she helps people do that. She even has her own special acronym to help people get their messages out more effectively – PACE. She's a curious creative soul whose curiosity has led her on many different paths and to many different countries from working in TV in Hollywood to, now, campaigning for more creativity in the financial services industry. She's also a massive advocate of supporting other women. In fact, to that end, Beth and I are hosting a Zoom call 2nd December bringing women together to brainstorm creative ideas of how we can support each other more, and get more female stories being told and heard. Given how much female voices are drowned out by males, especially where it matters (did you see the sea of suits at COP26?!) this is something we both feel very passionate about.
