This one was "in the can" from the pre-covid days. As I start to rebuild I'm going with the "use what you got done." Enjoy and I'll see ya next week. Book Review: Unf*uck Your Business by Tomas Keenan If you need a good kick in the ass I highly recommend reading his book and listening to his podcast both, can be found on his website. He'll remind you about the importance of building your business based on core values, writing down goals, morning routines, 2. Standing in Your Unique Brilliance: Do you have a list of what you are really good at, your story, your unique brilliance? I recently started a list of my stories and unique brilliance to start to infuse into my marketing. You can see an example how I have used it by viewing this page here on my podcast website. 3. Good things list. A place to celebrate your wins big and small. Got a new client? Booked a huge speaking engagement? Sent your tax info to the accountant (put that one on the list twice!). Welcome to Episode 16 of the podcast Hot Mess to Great Success. Today's topics: Values of your company. Connecting offline. How to delegate The Values of Your Company: Are you not attracting the right types of clients and employees? Get a Grip, Scaling Up, Unf*ck Your Business - all the experts are talking about the values of your company and then infuse them into everything: day-to-day operations, marketing, Tomas Keen who is the author of Unf*ck Your Business does a brilliant job of how to do this with authentic examples. Mentioned: Sue Guiher: https://www.thrivingentrepreneur.com/ - her program helped me clarify my three core values of integrity, uniqueness and courage. The Values of The Gardella Group: Integrity, Humbly competent, Reliable, Balanced, Authentic, and Unique. Connecting Your number of connections and likes are just vanity metrics - they don't make you 'happy' or give you peace...dollars or any sort of actual friendship. How about send thank you notes, schedule calls, thank you gifts when someone supports your business in a big way. Delegating Big concept from EOS - just start with a list somewhere - in your work journal maybe. I keep a list in the front of the binder I use to organize the work of my day. Today's Topics: 1. It has nothing to do with you 2. Keeping up with Google's Changes 3. How EOS is changing my business  IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOU! As I have and will ALWAYS mention...the way others act has almost nothing to do with you. It is as shocking as it is freeing to hear - and then finally accept - this nugget of wisdom. I worked closely with The Possibility Coaches in Buckingham, PA who, through their brilliance finally got me to accept this fact. When you feel left out, rejected, inappropriately treated, disrespected,...it has zippo do with you. Someone may fail to obey the rules of your home, be kind, say thank you...and ya know what...it has zippo do with you. They are operating with their own set of limiting beliefs. In your professional life - if you are working as hard as you can - and a client still calls to scream - it probably has nothing to do with you - for all you know their spouse just served them with divorce papers. You can not fill in the cracks of someone else's life - they have been programmed by forces that are greater than you in their life that include the idea that you may be insignificant. Operate with integrity (remember there are no levels...there is just integrity) and unconditional love. Make your boundaries known and clear to all. This will transform your life. 2. How do you Keep up with Google Changes. If you are running a business, you know that SEO is important, but you've probably figured out that it's really hard to keep up on the changes and maintain your Google ranking your SEO. How do you keep up with all of the changes? Follow the experts! If you have questions or want to know whom to follow...book a call with me and we can get you on the right path. 3. Update on how my own hot mess is coming along. I AM MAKING PROGRESS! I'm implementing EOS (thanks again to Amy Porterfield). New clients are rolling in - not as a direct result of any one thing I am doing, but instead I believe it is because I am showing the universe I'm getting it together. I'm in a position to be hiring new staff and have, for the first time, put out a job description with the values I operate with so it is clear from the start the type of people I will hire. Big projects are moving along...in big ways. Getting stuff done! My marketing is shaping up, I'm starting to look more coordinated, delegating so I do not get stuck,

A special thank you to Jared over at Podcast Movement who ran a challenge that got me thinking and moving. If you are a podcaster or just wondering if what the steps are I would highly recommend contacting him about the challenge. Our three topics today are: When life gets in the way of your goals Reviews for your business Operating with Integrity Topic #1: When life gets in the way. It is time to "Jen-Proof my Life" I take full responsibility for where I sit in life - and for the state of my business, my finances, my household - I put myself there. No victim! When the universe has thrown me curveballs, I have allowed them to impact everything - including my goals. Happens during good things (surprise visit from my daughter) and some not-so-great things (when my ex-husband passed away). w Take the time to get ahead, automate and delegate. Getting ahead on client work Autopay bills Delegate when tech issues come up! Topic #2: Reviews for your business Businesses can take reviews in many places: Yelp, Google, Facebook, LinkedIn and even on a website. And if you work for a company you should be collecting recommendations on your LInkedIn page. When a bad review hits, you freak out. My solution: Jump back in your Hot Tub Time Machine, and put the systems in place that I regularly recommend, so that you are gathering enough good reviews this way when a bad one pops up. What I recommend is that you work hard so that no one review kills your scores. Topic #3: Operating with integrity "There's no such thing as levels of integrity. You either sit in integrity and live in integrity, or you do not." Click here to find the work of Sue Guiher Blog on being Fake at Disney

TOPIC #1: Find a CRM system for your business. They can be very expensive and very confusing. I first signed up for Infusionsoft (now Keap) because all the big sharks used it. It was way too big and very very confusing. The tech shut me down...sadly for years. And I finally decided to look for something else - and I looked everywhere. Convertkit - Freshsales - HubSpot - Zoho And after all my research I finally decided I was not going to get exactly what I wanted. I did realize that a few systems were going to need to be put in place. I wanted payment - schedule - funnels - crm for list building and bigger prospects. And I finally pulled the trigger on Clickfunnels. I came about it sideways - went through One Funnel Away - a 30 day program (warning: Affiliate link) - which was brilliant. I then drank the Koolaid and signed up for a full account. It solves most of my problems and issues. TOPIC #2: Setting a goal with a reward When I need a break, I wanted to zone out - really zone out. And I got addicted - yes addicted to an app game on my phone. I was lacking discipline. I would delete the app and then reinstall it to zone out again. I was wasting a ton of time - the game wasn't even helping me relax because I knew I could be doing so much else with my time. I gave myself a goal - delete the app and get the bag - a Vera Bradley bag. So I bought the bag - and locked it away - and will give it to myself if I can really kick the habit. TOPIC #3: Feeling Disconnected What do we do when your job, family, kids, just suck the life out of you. There is a ton of writing out there about the importance of having some deeper spiritual connection to a higher power - whatever that would be for you. I was raised Devout Catholic and have left The Church, (recovering Catholic) - and the spiritual was missing. So…. Recently went through a program, Faith to Conquer Fear Program with Christy DeMetrakis My breakthroughs were substantial and connection to my higher power was found.

Three Topics for Today: Content Ideas Steps for Success Miracle Mornings Top #1: Writing Content What do I write about on my blog? Now I'm a social media and blogging consultant in my professional life. Sharpen Your Saw Do you need to sharpen your saw? Falling behind on your field, technology, happenings in your company? Set-up a system so that you NEVER fall behind again. 1. Great a folder on your Google Drive Toolbar. Put the links to the 10 best sources of information in your industry. 2. Create a Google Drive doc for Expert notes so you have one place to jot down ideas. 3. Attend a conference or just get the video recordings (often less expensive). Put those notes in your Expert notes as well. This plan makes it all very easy to find and access - from your phone, laptop and desktop. Give Yourself Permission If you feel stuck, waiting for permission to start a project - just GIVE YOURSELF PERMISSION! This applies to taking a spa day, starting to write that book, stop caring what other people think (A really really tough one), and just to go for whatever it is you want to get done. Self Care I don't care how you accomplish this one, but you need to take care of yourself. It doesn't need to be expensive. Sometimes just 15 minutes of reading or setting a boundary, or playing the guitar...fill your cup, put on your oxygen mask - will help as you run around and take care of everyone else's stuff.

SHE'S BACK... Welcome back...I took a little hiatus....and in this episode, I discuss three topics Who has been kicking you in the ass? Who is your ideal client The 90/10 rule Topic 1: Who is kicking you in the ass? This one is going to straddle all areas of life: business, parenting, personal. You may be looking for divine intervention, but as Amy Harrill recently told me....you have to be your greatest ass kicker. And we all know this - you are the only one who can mix the motivation inside and actually get things done. It doesn't matter if it is implementing a new system in your business, putting in extra hours to impress your boss, or putting together the pieces to record a podcast. It has to come from within you to bring anything to completion, or just getting you up on the treadmill. However, it is helpful to have people in your life who kick your ass - I have a few. Those who demand I raise my game and stay on course - one or two in each area. A couple of friends in my personal life, my kids in Marcus: no greater love, no greater ass kicker. my parenting…. And then there is Marcus. He is an overall ass kicker. The minute I say I am starting a project he says “what is the due date so I can hold you accountable?” During the final march towards finishing my PhD I would get messages from him “Whos ass are you kicking today princess?” He kicks so much ass he is a pain in my ass - and I love him beyond words for it. Click here to find Marcus on LinkedIn. In fact, right now we aren't talking because all he does is bug me about getting another epiosde of the podcast. So I've finally done it - partly because he is bugging me, but also I wanted to. You see, in your personal and professional life, and especially if you are trying to get out of hot mess, you need an internal ass kicker. As a parent, I am the ass kicker to my children. In a big way. Most parents today are not ass kickers, they believe their children are special snowflakes. Last week, for one of my daughters the wheels come off her bus: grades, money saved, and the way that she was taking care of her car….all hit bottom. Mom found out. It all hit the fan. We texted at first and then talked. She found her motivation, maybe a wee bit through fear. Honestly, while others, like Marcus, can be a loving pain in the ass, only you can get it done...like me in putting up this episode, and like my daughter who visited with her teacher, asked her job for more hours, and put oil in her car. When you are lacking the motivation, here are a few suggestions: Make a list with detailed pieces. If it is work you need to complete keep the documents open like I do in Drive. Do the hard stuff first Get help - delegate Topic 2: Your Target Market, Ideal Client So, I'm in a training program right now to get my business in order and every time I turn around I'm being told to get more specific. Goals, dreams, and...the dreaded ideal client. It doesn't matter if you work for a company or yourself - you have an ideal client. If you are a business owner like me, your ideal client is the type of person or other business you want to work with. For instance, one of my targets is divorce attorneys or accountants who have: a great website, 2-5 staff members, about $1 million in revenue, and knows a solid foundation of blogging and social media will enhance their other digital marketing efforts. I'm being told to get even more specific with personal characteristics. Your ideal client may be your boss' boss - or the specific type of company that you want to work for in the future. To be successful as a small business owner- you need to build your brand to attract your ideal client. To be successful as a employee - you need to build your personal brand to support the moves you want to make. And also you can establish thought leadership in your industry. Hello from sunny San Diego! I'm here for Social Media Marketing World put on by Social Media Examiner. Looking forward to supporting the team and resting a bit in my fancy hotel room. My big achievement: Before we get started I wanted to share with you a big achievement - to some this may sound silly or even pathetic, but I promise you honesty. A huge issue for me is money - in fact, it is probably my single biggest stressor - or should I say I allow it to be. In the past I have put off paying bills, opening bills, checking my balances- depositing checks. You name it, I have ignored it. Last year I put my poor accountant through hell at tax time. This year - she has all my information to get moving and hard copies have been dropped off. My P&L: Also last week, I put in an application to a fellowship program which required my P&L from the last three years. It was easy to put together. And looking at those numbers - which I have previously ignored - was eye opening. My financials really do tell the story of my business. Income has been relatively flat but expenses in the area of staff have gone up. I've been building the team internally so I can scale. Now, the battle for me is sticking to a sales system. Our three Big Topics: Topic 1: Search your documents As you know, on of my major goals is to get rid of post-it notes and napkins. I want to put all the details on projects into single documents. I recently went searching to consolidate writing ideas for my websites. I had 7 different files! I also had notes on my old laptop and even my new laptop - WHAT A MESS! Now, I combined everything into one document. I can share it with my team and they can easily comment. I am constantly attempting to streamline my efforts - even my journaling. I've dedicated a portion of my planner page weekly layout to journaling so I can take notes in one place right on my calendar. And now, when I attend a meeting or training I now only take notes digitally so I can easily transfer them to my book writing or blog. Topic 2: Guest Blogging Guest blogging is when you write on someone else's website. It can be another local business owner, it can also be a major publication (and even something in between). It is great for SEO (Google loves those back links), it is great to share on social media, and you can get some exposure. All Good. Guest blogging takes time - you need to brainstorm - develop the content ideas (remember, they have to be unique, and then research requirements to get it actually published. Start small (swap with another local business) and build. Topic 3: Check out your presence In preparation for attending this conference I had to get my three websites in shape. It still isn't all done, but progress has been made. I have JenniferGardella.com, a personal blog called My Steps in Time, podcast, HotMesstoGreatSuccess.com. I was ignoring it all but it all needed attention - consistency, better writing, updating. Even my LinkedIn profile needed a bit of a touch up. I went site by site and made a list of what needed to be done and I've been working through it. Mindset Adjustment: Take a deep breath in - spring is here - If you live in the North East like I do we have seen a glimpse that the artic air is gone. Marketing Tip of the week: Check to see what your competition is doing

Marketing Tip of the week: Check to see what your competition is doing
DO NOT SHOW UP AS A HOT MESS! Welcome to the beginning of conference season! You may be attending a conference to learn something new, obtain professional credits, make connections, or just get out of the office. Whatever the reason there are a bevy of opportunities waiting for you when you attend. To make the most of your time at the conference, this week I have outlined my conference plan. In March I will be attending Social Media Marketing World and I have been having a blast getting myself ready. I was honored when selected for the volunteer staff at Social Media Marketing World. It is the gold standard of social media conference and, from what I have seen, conferences in general. The staff really has thought of every possible way to ensure a participants success at whatever level they are attending. I have been encouraged to engage through multiple Facebook groups and an app. I have connected with amazing individuals and...drum roll...I have already been asked to guest blog post which is a major goal of mine for the conference. Before I share my plan, keep in mind that this is extensive. I dedicate time every single day to getting ready - connecting, reading, asking questions, answering questions and preparing my content. Your plan and conference participation depend largely on what you want to get out of it but you do not need to do everything on my list (although I would definitely recommend you pay close attention when I talk about packing business cards - those are important). So, our three Big Topics today: Topic 1:  Before the Conference Topic 2:  During the Conference Topic 3:  After the Conference Topic 1:  Before the conference Set Goals - I first learned about setting goals for a conference in one of the Facebook Groups for SMMW. I thought it sounded crazy at first, but it makes sense! When you have a goal you can then focus your energy to ensure you use your time wisely. You might want to find staff or Connect with others for a whole bunch of reasons - clients, outsourcing⦠Get guest speaking gigs - SEO, visibility, know, like and trust Get clients Learn something Meet conference staff and find out how you can help out the organization. Now you have direction for your efforts! Spruce up your online presence. Make sure to develop your Know, Like and Trust Factors When you want to connect with others they are going to check you out. LinkedIn - you want to make sure that your LinkedIn profile is filled out and well written. Twitter - fill out your bio and put in great pictures. Post content to LinkedIn and Twitter each day. Get your website in shape clearly explaining what you do. Put a few videos on Youtube explaining what you do. Commit to being authentic. You digital footprint should clearly articulate how you help solve problems. PreGame the Conference Whatâs the hashtag? Every conference has a hashtag. Social Media Marketing World is using #SMMW19 this year. For most conferences, staff monitor the hashtag and will probably engage with your tweets. In fact, find out who will be monitoring the hashtag during the conference and let them know you will be onsite to help out. Get on the radar screen! Not sure what to do with the hashtag? Look up the hashtag from last year's conference. See which tweets had engagement and who sent them. Start to develop a plan from these examples. Connect with speakers, conference staff and other attendees on LinkedIn and Twitter Look for opportunities to meet your target contacts. Ask them where they are going to be - networking tables? Schedule lunch. Is there a Facebook group? This is one of the things that Social Media Marketing World does best. There are multiple Facebook groups for attendees and volunteers.Contribute to each group by asking and answering questions.

Our Three Big Topics: Topic 1: From post-it notes to organized When I speak, I have often been heard saying “my business has been held together by post it notes and peanut butter.” When I started my business (and actually until the last year) I had notes everywhere - post-its, napkins, a calendar, notes on my phone, google drive docs, ½ sheets of paper with ideas - an idea notebook. Folders in a filing cabinet of ideas. Folders in my google toolbar. Stuff was everywhere - most of it good - dare I say brilliant - but half the time I didn't even remember where it was. Listen to the podcast to hear my "not so funny" story about my GoDaddy Account! What I do now: I have standardized my day in a three ring binder - and I need to do is flip through it page by page each day to get my stuff done. Each page is a specific task that gets done every single day. It goes from the reading I do each morning, (Social Media Examiner), read through goals...manage email. As I move through the book I move through my day and I get to check off what I get done. This is the standardized stuff, not the daily stuff. Next, I have a planner pad - you can go to PlannerPad.com to get one. I do not make a penny off of you doing this. Everything goes in my planner pad - schedule, calendar, what has to be done by area of my business that are one time events or tasks I need to catch-up on. I keep track of goals there as well as The One Thing I am working on for the week. Lately I have a small section of things to do on the plane since I have flown four times in the last few weeks, I like to keep busy and I'm leaving tomorrow for Orlando. I leave a big section (half of that top line for notes) - these are hair brain ideas that i am not ready to schedule right now and would normally stick on a list or post-it note somewhere. My Daily things to do list is the middle section - those activities that I am holding myself accountable to completing that day. My schedule is then in the bottom third of the page under appointments. Lastly, I do have a journal - mostly it is what I want to write down in my book - Hot Mess to Great Success. As quickly as possible I take those notes and put them into the appropriate place. Here is the link I mentioned from the woman who has a journal or book for everything in her life. This way I won't seem quite so psycho. Topic 2: Importance of a Procedures manual. A procedures manual will help standardize what you do, keep you on track, and allow you to start projects and onboard clients & staff with ease. It should include every single thing that you do - one of my more successful friends even has a procedure for answering the phone in her office. Create it in a Google Doc with a link in your Google Toolbar to easily access. Keep the Table of Content nearby for when you want to jot down an important note. Topic 3: Do you change your process for the client? In the show I shared my very frustrating story with a client who wanted to dictate how I wrote their social media posts. I was hired to work on strategy and deliver content. I quickly learned that I had to follow a long list of ever changing rules that were in direct conflict with good social media. The question I pose is - do you change your process for a client? I saw that if you have a very large client and are doing custom work you may want to develop custom communication systems. But you should NEVER go back on your unique brilliance. So: Think about what procedures you want to teach someone else. If you have a procedures manual have you looked at it lately? Get rid of the post-it notes - create a system that gets you down to as few places as possible to record your notes. Think about if you are going to let your clients run your operation. Mindset Adjustment: Sit in gratitude - I wake up every morning and write down three things I am grateful for - I have this list in a G...

Boundaries, Style Sheets and Tools of your Business - OH MY! Visiting "Dannielle with two N's" this week - we are sick as dogs and her dogs are barking. Great time to record a podcast! Jenâs Lessons Learned:  Take advantage of the bump. Sometimes the universe sets you down a path where there is a bump in the road â great things can come from a bump. This weekend as I was traveling to South Carolina I was offered a bump â from my flight â for a $1,000 voucher. They were short a seat, I would arrive at my destination about 5 hours later than expected. That voucher has enabled me to buy a very expensive flight to Charleston in April for a reunion with my college roommates â and I was also able to treat my roommate and pay for her flight as well. Sheâs been unbelievably supportive of me in my life and I was thrilled I would do that for her. When you start to establish boundaries in your life you really upset a whole lot of people. For example, we have a problem in our home with people throwing in a load of laundry and taking a shower â leaving no hot water for the rest of us. Since we are blended family I never wanted to overturn the apple cart â and yes, I dealt with cold showers. As it turns out, when you call others out on their insensitivity, when you are no longer a doormat, they get upset at you â even if they have hot water. Stand your ground â you are not a doormat. If things are going well, donât get too ambitious. We had a tennis match this week and my partner and I were playing really well â so I decided to start poaching at the net. Iâve had one lesson on this â what made me think I could do it was beyond me. In the game of tennis success is the combination of luck and timing matched with some skill. Jenâs Wins for the Week (and how did I do on my goals) :  Everything for my Facebook ads is with the team My tracking system is rocking. I canât say Iâm getting it all done, but Iâm not as overwhelmed. Now, Iâm looking to get ahead. I didnât get as ahead as I wanted to, but Iâm here in South Carolina and I am not having an anxiety attack that work is not getting done. Sales â Iâm staying on track in doing MDBâs but not meeting my daily goals â because my goals are bananas. Iâm fine missing a goal right now â as you know, I had no idea it was going to take me some time to get into the groove of my new systems. I like a big crazy goal â even if I miss it. And, I have a new client which is very very exciting. Our three Big Topics for this week:  Topic 1:  Your Style Sheet I have found that nothing has made my marketing projects easier than having a style sheet. You get a style sheet when a large marketing agency does a project for you â or, at least you should. It includes, your logo, graphics and pictures, fonts, internet colors This way, if you have to redo anything and you donât want to use the same outfit, you have all the information you need. Additionally, if you want another marketing piece, letâs say pens, you easily have the information at your fingertips. You may want to do an Instagram post â and use Canva which we will be talking about in a few minutes, and you can easily find the right font or color if you know what you have already used. You stay and look coordinated. Topic 2: The Right Tools There are many tools that I use to run my business: Google Drive Wordpress Hootsuite, Buffer, Later, and Planoly to schedule social media posts Qucikbooks Canva Aquity Go Daddy WP-Engine Wisestamp Webinar Ninja Aquity Lass Pass

I’m fine missing a goal right now – as you know, I had no idea it was going to take me some time to get into the groove of my new systems. I like a big crazy goal – even if I miss it. And, I have a new client which is very very exciting. Our three Big Topics for this week: Topic 1: Your Style Sheet I have found that nothing has made my marketing projects easier than having a style sheet. You get a style sheet when a large marketing agency does a project for you – or, at least you should. It includes, your logo, graphics and pictures, fonts, internet colors This way, if you have to redo anything and you don’t want to use the same outfit, you have all the information you need. Additionally, if you want another marketing piece, let’s say pens, you easily have the information at your fingertips. You may want to do an Instagram post – and use Canva which we will be talking about in a few minutes, and you can easily find the right font or color if you know what you have already used. You stay and look coordinated. Topic 2: The Right Tools There are many tools that I use to run my business: Google Drive Wordpress Hootsuite, Buffer, Later, and Planoly to schedule social media posts Qucikbooks Canva Aquity Go Daddy WP-Engine Wisestamp Webinar Ninja Aquity Lass Pass CRM – Infusionsoft. In my google toolbar I have a folder called “Systems of my Business” and a link to each of these sits there so I can easily access them. I also have all the login information loaded into LastPass – makes it all very very easy. Topic 3: Boundaries – As I mentioned before I have been working on boundaries. Boundaries are a difficult topic for me to talk about because, in the past,
Hello! Welcome to Week 3 of the podcast Hot Mess to Great Success! I'm Dr. Jennifer Gardell and I am THRILLED you have decided to take the plunge into goal planning with me. LAST WEEK's Topics: Setting Yourself up for success with tracking - what works and what doesn't Getting the fighter back - lions do not need to roar but they need to stand up for themselves with grace. A true rebrand - all at once or take your time - no matter how you are doing it, it is great. You will be hearing lots from me in the future on Marketing, social media, and branding in general. This Week: Create a Good Things List Focus on The One Thing Stop opening Pandora's Box in your business! Jen's Lessons Learned: This week I learned the importance of stepping back to move forward! I have huge plans to manage and track my time for 2019 - and right out of the gate it was not working - at all. The entire system was stressing me out. I retooled my entire system and made it easier to follow. Jen's Wins for the Week: I was hired to do an SEO training. I LOVE these! Many business owners are confused about how to really impact SEO and most are actually confused about what it is. I had some activity within my sales system that was good to see since I have been putting time into it almost every day. I've let the universe know I am open for business and it is now maneuvering to align me with that goal. Had a great call with a hot prospect - they don't think they need me right now. Unfortunately I can not come out and tell them all the things they should be (or should no longer be) doing so I'll slowly reel them in over time. I am looking forward to extending my sales system, My speaker one sheet has started - just wait for Pandora's box below on that one. I created a complete list of marketing activities which I will be sharing when it is ready for public consumption. As I mention in the show, it includes daily social media, a detailed editorial calendar, regular blog/video/slideshare posting as well as a few other key pieces. Our three Big Topics for this week: Topic 1: Good things list: One of the most important parts of goals, tracking, building and going from hot mess to great success is a good things list. You can create a paper page in a notebook or calendar, an electronic document (Word file or Google Doc), or use notes on your phone. Keep track of good things that happen in your business. For me, the primary purpose is to keep track of income generating successes - such as a new client. I also track when other large goals are completed (website redone). Lastly I track when good things happen - a friend calls with a big accomplishment or even a huge lesson I learned. Topic 2: Focus on one thing: Its not often that I recommend a book - The One Thing by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan was a game changer for me. I have had the quote "if you chase 2 rabbits you will lose them both" for quite some time written in my office and this book hit home on the many reasons why you should intently focus on one thing at a time for success. The One Thing I did not want to drag with me into the new year was my website redesign - getting it done was going to require me climbing a mountain. I focused on it intently - it was my one thing for a number of days and a full weekend - and I did get it redone. Topic 3: Pandora's box: When you start a project do you begin wtih a task and find yourself opening up a box of questions, problems, additional tasks? I am a master at opening up Pandora's box and wish I had a nickel for every time I said "I'm going to get X done only to realize I don't have anything I need to complete the project right now. This happened to me last week when I wanted to complete my speaker one sheet. I forgot the planning step and instead sat down with a template. What a nighmare. First and foremost this is a task I should be delegating. Secondly,

Welcome to the second week of Hot Mess to Great Success, a podcast dedicated to helping you get all or certain aspects of your life in order. Remember, you don't have to shout your disorganization from the rooftop or hire and expensive coach. Jennifer walks you though her process of getting her business and life together and provides just enough encouragement for you to do the same. This week: Getting organized for success Get the fighter back Rebranding Lessons I learned this week: Checking off vs. doing: What an insane week I had attempting to track my goals and get work done. I was temporarily wrapped up in doing vs. being in the moment. I think I was a bit overwhelmed. I was trying to be a slave to checking off. I realized I'll have to settle into my systems and possibly adjust. Every single time I turned around something else popped up related to any accomplishment. To survive, I took a step back and didn't let this shut me down. I stuck to the plan. Did not account for the short week. This shows me the importance of planning. As an only mom there are many times during the week when I need to be present for my kids at an event. This week is no excepting and I need to do a better job preparing for it. Most importantly, I realized that getting behind creates stress. So, I'm going to build time to get ahead to account for expected and also unexpected events. Jen's Wins for the Week (important to acknowledge your accomplishments!) Did my MDBs for sales and self. 5 hours of writing my book Bar association cover letter is done Blogging - Video - Slideshare Ceo day for Friday was done Spotify accepted my podcast So here are my three big thoughts for the week: Topic 1: Set Yourself Up for Success Use Google Drive - Google drive is cloud computing that is easy to access with your gmail account. I love it because it allows me to work with clients and staff on documents that are live - we don't have to save a document, send it in email, and send it back to someone. It is super easy to access on computer, laptop and phone. When I have to search for anything I get bogged down - so I heavily use my Google toolbar to save links to documents and folders. Go! Document - this is my document that starts out my day and has links to the Google drive documents, spreadsheets and folders I use most often. Again, helps me to keep moving. OneTab - this is an extension for the Google Toolbar. You can create sets of browser tabs you want to open as a group. For instance, when I blog I want my editorial calendar, website, youtube, and SlideShare. Rather than open each one (which requires me searching for them, I just go into OneTab and open them all at once. When I want to work on Sales, OneTab can open my prospect file, Infusionsoft and KIT system in one click. Topic 2: Get the fighter back. For quite some time I have taken rejection and moved on - not that I accepted it, but I would put any follow-up on the back burner. One area has been my affiliate program - I wasn't fighting for it. I would apply and get rejected and then not question or reapply. This week I contacted GoDaddy to inquire about my rejection - I didn't freak out, I just asked and appealed. And ya know what, I was accepted. What are some things that you have rolled over on? Have they held you back? Topic 3: What is a true rebrand and how you should do it - Rebranding your business or endeavor is a huge undertaking that should be done every 2-3 years. I had a very interesting email from a client on Jan 2nd - they had changed the name of the firm, taken on two partners, and wanted a new logo put in place for their rebrand. I know the process well, as I am going through it on www.Jennifer Gardella.com. Usually creating one thing, like a logo, creates an avalanche of change. A rebrand can be done in one big swoop (and is usually very expen...

Welcome to the first episode of Hot Mess To Great Success a podcast dedicated to helping you getting your business, career, and parts of your life into shape. My goal is to inspire you through my own story. I know you have parts of your professional world you want to spiff up. I know you don't want to shout about your disorganization from the rooftop. You just want to hear that someone else is going through it all as well. Each week I'll review my own wins (and encourage you to think about yours, talk about three big topics that need to be considered, go over my goals for the following week, suggest a short mind shift adjustment, and then end things with a marketing tip (well, I am a marketing consultant after all). So, let's get started: Jen's Wins for this week: My new website, www.JenniferGardella.com is up and done. This podcast has started My end of 2018 tracking and numbers are done. TOPIC ONE: What got me here - when you really want to get out of Hot Mess On April 4, 2018 I presented a Tedx at my Alma Mater, Fordham University. As my toes left that stage I thought to myself, my gosh, why doesn't my bank account match this stature. While I do agree that that not everyone who does a Tedx is financially loaded, it was the moment when I realized I was playing too small. It was time to get organized and gets scaling. A link to my Tedx is below. TOPIC 2: My Get Ready Month Over the summer I made the commitment to getting my business in shape which largely involved me stepping out of the way. I dove into going from a Hot Mess to great Success with a vengeance My Website is finally done despite significant complications with the individual I hired. I studied Podcasting and learned each piece I needed to put in place to get it up and running. Recorded webinars and hired a company to run my Facebook ads to start in early January. Called my accountant - I would rather have a root canal - she was stunned to hear from me. I hate dealing with money and this was a huge step. Studied my Sandler training - even retooled my Infusionsoft to match the system. The universe cleared some energy - now, this is not a woowoo podcast but I do believe in the power of the universe - and sometimes the power hits me on the head with a 2x4.  What was cleared for me has given me emotional space to move forward - rather than carrying the baggage of others I'm building my business. I committed to the relentless pursuit of my goals. Topic 3:  Dedicated to tracking: During one of my last Sandler classes of 2018 we did an exercise to determine a Success Quotient which was a fascinating experience. Turns out, I am excellent at planning and goal setting, but I am terrible and tracking and making minimum behaviors to meet goals. That has got to change. It clearly highlighted that tracking and discipline to minimum daily behaviors were two of my weakest areas. What am I tracking now?  - Absolutely everything! First:  The Chain where I am tracking the goals I am most dedicated to:  Sales and one personal goal - my weight - Iâm getting in fighting shape. Money - working very hard to set-up Quickbooks Sales:  New prospects contacted & touches.  30 minute calls, proposals, new clients and my close rate. Website visits - visitors and bounce rate. Email subscribers Social Media Counts for each account. Content created:  blogs, guest blogs, newsletters, tips, videos, podcasts Habits - exhaustive list of good personal habits:  meditation and exercise. Here are a few things that you can think about from this week's episode: You heard what got me to this point....have you had your defining moment? I explained some of my get ready month - is there anything that you want to put in place before you jump in? Is it best to just jump in now? What are you going to track? Relentless pursuit of goals through tracking...
