While Facebook & Instagram are considered the best places to advertise, many marketers have seen a decrease in conversion rates and an increase in customer acquisition costs. After spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on Facebook & Instagram ads for her own business, Allie Bloyd discovered one of the most effective ways to improve profitability: Adding a simple Video Sales Letter. In this 2023 Social Media Marketing World presentation, she'll help you plan your first short video sales letter script, with the exact steps you'll take to record and launch it in record time! In this episode, Dan explores the origins of his podcasting adventure with one of the people who pushed him over the edge and into the air, the relentless Adriana "Ada" Bowman. As an entrepreneur, artist, speaker, and CEO of AB+ Production, Ada does not have the word "can't" in her vocabulary but sure knows how to say "why not?" A chance encounter with her at Social Media Marketing World 2019 led to Dan meeting Cliff Ravenscraft, and the rest as they say is history. Dan and Ada talk about SMMW, marketing, being an activator, the future of social media, Gary Vee and more in this packed (and occasionally off the rails) conversation.

As of this recording, I recently got back from a whirlwind couple of weeks spent at tradeshows and conferences. I wanted to take a minute and share why you should be attending conferences and then how to get back in the saddle when you get home. Listen in to hear why conferences that aren’t directly related to Amazon selling are still important and my methods for jumpstarting productivity. It has been a crazy beginning of 2020 and March has been full of events. I went to Seller Growth Summit, Social Media Marketing World, and Podfest and learned amazing things at each one. Despite the fact that SMMW and Podfest aren’t directly related to Amazon selling, I still learn so much by attending. Between the power of stories for product-based businesses and the correlation between live video across platforms and how to use those techniques on Amazon live video, I learned a ton. Same thing with Podfest. I do have a podcast, but even if you don’t have a podcast, there are tons of influencers who are using the products you sell. By attending Podfest I was able to network with tons of potential sponsors and connections. But when it’s all over and I get home, I tend to fall into the post-show blues. It’s really hard for me to get back to a state of productivity. Listen in as I share my tips and tricks on how to jump back as quickly as possible without wasting a ton of your valuable time. In This Episode: [01:50] Get ready to learn how tradeshows and conferences can impact your business. [02:49] Carlos recently came back from Seller Growth Summit where he spoke on selling businesses. [06:26] He followed it up by going to Social Media Marketing World. [10:03] Hear which session Carlos enjoyed the most and why. [12:11] Why it’s important to know the goals you have going into each conference and session. [13:40] Next up, Carlos went to Podfest. Learn why this conference will still make a difference even if you don’t have a podcast. [16:40] There are podcasts for everything and influencers who need the products you sell. [18:12] Carlos’s upcoming conferences. [19:47] How to get past the post-tradeshow blues. [21:38] Hear the things Carlos does to get back in the saddle after a conference. [24:34] The first full day back from a conference Carlos reconnects with his teams and recharging. [26:17] What do you do to get past the tradeshow blues? I first met Lisa in person in San Diego earlier this year at the https://mrgavinbell.com/social-media-marketing-world-2019/ (SMMW conference). She's the managing editor of Social Media Examiner, a website that helps more than 1 million marketers each MONTH! Lisa is in charge of developing, editing and publishing the content on the Social Media Examiner site. In this episode, we talk about how YOU can get featured on large publications such as Social Media Examiner.
A few months ago I delivered a talk at Social Media Marketing World 2019 on how to create a full funnel with YouTube ads. Feedback on the session was great so I wanted to share it here on the podcast. Why YouTube ads? Watch time for “which product to buy” videos on YouTube doubled this past year. Nearly 70% of shoppers say they are open to learning about products on YouTube directly from brands. In this talk, we'll explore 3 ways to utilize YouTube ads for growth. We'll uncover 3 proven YouTube ad formulas to put the right video in front of the right prospect at the right time. We'll also examine the best bidding strategies and winning campaign structures to implement for success.
In the 25th installment of Rise Grind Repeat, we handle some business in San Diego attending (sneaking in) social media marketing world, met some great entrepreneurs along the way. After successfully getting kicked out of SMMW we met up with local Summer Sepulveda about her company "Plan the World" and talk shop about her journey from digital marketing to event planning to starting her own company. So let's jump on in. Check out Summer's websites below! brojure.com plantheworld.com
Copy That Pops: Writing Tips and Psychology Hacks for Business
Another quick tip episode for you today...I’ll keep it pithy and productive for you! You never know when one introduction can lead to great things! Writing introductions are important for many cases: Introducing guests on your own podcast Introducing guest speakers at a local meetup, an online live stream, or a stage where you may have another expert on with you Helping podcast hosts or emcees to properly introduce you to the audience Introducing yourself in-person, on interviews, or even in writing inside a blog or your book & so much more! Introduction Tips 1. Proper Preparation I’m not one to completely wing something new when I want to do a good job. Luckily, the Director of Events for SMMW Phil Mershon ran an incredibly helpful online training for we who would be Track Leader emcees! He shared two resources that really helped inspire my own preparation, which were: How to Be a Good Master of Ceremonies How to be a great MC - Emcee - Master of Ceremonies #1 "Secrets to a Great Introduction!" Speaker Introduction Framework 2. The Framework Components To really set the stage for the audience, make the speaker feel honored and well-received, and ensure everyone in the room knows they are in the right place and excited for the material, we should: Quickly...try to cover: Why the subject is important Why this speaker is awesome Why the audience is linked to both above Why right now is the best time to learn this 3. What I ended up doing I made sure to introduce myself and also connect myself to the audience. Here’s how I ended up doing my intros: Greet the audience and thank them for coming Engage the audience somehow Introduce myself + connect myself to the audience Well, hello everyone, my name is Laura Petersen and I’m in business and marketing just like you! I own my own company called Copy That Pops, with a podcast of the same name. Primarily, I help entrepreneurs to write, self-publish, launch, and leverage bestselling books on Amazon to grow their brands and businesses! Tie in why the subject of the speaker’s talk is important Tie the audience and me back into the subject and say why now is the best time to be here learning more about this Introduce the speaker without saying his or her name until the very end! End the introduction by asking the audience to get on their feet, put their hands together to properly welcome…. THEN, I would say the speaker’s name last as he or she walked onto the stage Another Quick Tip: It’s good to stay there until the speaker is settled in for two reasons: Give the audience a consistent focal point of where to look Be there just in case the speaker drops something or needs a quick bit of help as he/she adjusts to the stage Importance of saying the guest’s name LAST. Michael O’Neal of the Solopreneur Hour podcast in episode 51 entitled, “High-level Branding & the Art of the Podcast Interview with Michael O’Neal [Book Influencer Mini-Series].” Anyhow, both Michael and this article point out that professional hosts always save the guest’s name for last. Watch Stephen Colbert, Jay Leno, Oprah, Ellen, or Larry King for example. Watch how they introduce mega-stars to their stage...they save their name for last! If it’s good enough for these pros, it’s good enough for us! Example: An Example of one of my introductions… Tim Schmoyer. He’s a huge YouTube influencer and one of the kindest people I met at SMMW. CTA plug around books. I truly believe that you should write a book. I can help you, even if you are a bit nervous or overwhelmed! Together, we can make it hit bestseller on Amazon too and map out a plan to ensure it creates an ROI in your business. If you would like to share a bit more about your book dreams and goals, fill out a quick survey to tell me more at CopyThatPops.com/survey. I read each one of them and can point you in the right direction for more resources whether that is free material I’ve created or even my signature Bestseller Accelerator ROI program! Either way, I am here to help however I can. Take Action Now! The Speaker's Secret Gig List
A quick review of speakers Mari smith and mark Schaefer from this years conference. Such a great source of information for all things social.
I’ve just returned from Social Media Marketing World conference so it feels like a perfect opportunity to share 4 Tips to Boost the Benefits of Attending Conferences. TIPS1. Give value to other attendees. Create a report. Shoot a highlights video. Interview some of the speakers. There is a number of ways you can get attention.2. Choose conferences that offer good attendee to exhibitor ratio. Web summit vs SMMW.BONUS TIP: If you want to be a sponsor - book early to choose the best spot.3. Dominate top tweets and Instagram posts for conference-related hashtags. Boost it with your social media channels.4. Use it to build a relationship with speakers. Might be the most important reason for attending a conference in the first place.
And so it was, Social Media Marketing World 2019 is now a thing of the past; I'm sure planning efforts of SMMW 2020 are well underway. I'd like to share with you my three main takeaways from all of the live broadcasts, podcasts, and blog posts I read surrounding this annual "mecca-like" event for social media marketing professionals. Video. Period, end of sentence. It's a must-do activity in your social media marketing strategies. Authenticity. This may make your video marketing efforts a little easier because, quite frankly, gone are the days of backdrops, expensive lighting and sound equipment. A lot of today's video marketing consists of very real, raw footage where business owners and brands are just being PEOPLE. Let that sink in for a minute. People, just being themselves, is what converts in today's social media marketing. Lastly, stop being everywhere if that doesn't serve you. I go into this in more detail in the podcast, but if Twitter isn't your thing, and your ideal client or target marketing isn't on Twitter, then don't Tweet! This is a massive shift for me, but it truly does make sense! And at the end of the day, that's what matters; making sense of social media! Bea Pole-Bokor Show Notes Bea Pole-Bokor is the Owner & Founder of B!Social A professional diplomat by training, Bea has been successfully branding and promoting a country at top levels in the international scene before going digital and establishing B!Social. She’s worked at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, as well as with marketing giant L’Oréal prior to moving to New Zealand. With over 10 years of experience in communication, content creation, and events, she is now on a mission to share her passion for all things social. Bea is an official LinkedIn Local host, a member of the Organizing Committee, and a speaker at the Social Media Conference New Zealand 2019. Most Passionate About Today I consider myself as a very social person. This was the reason I started my business, B!Social, which is all about social media and beyond. I help businesses leverage the power of social media to grow. I love it because it’s all about people. I used to be a diplomat before and that’s all about social networking, so I’m passionate about people, relationships, getting together and sharing our knowledge, inspiring each other, and growing together. Social Media: Lonely vs. Social I’m struggling with this question because I think everything has two sides, the pros and the cons. I see social media as an opportunity for businesses to leverage, to reach people, to talk to and with the people who matter to them the most. I feel this is a wonderful platform to create community and help people get together, but I’m also very much aware of the dark side of social, so to say. In this world of digitalization, when we are always behind our screens and phones, I feel there is a massive disconnect, a process that’s happening with all of us; we’re getting over digitalized and less connected because everyone is using their devices and on the internet and it’s terrifying to see sometimes people chatting next to each other on their phones without really talking to each other. So, as much as social media is a wonderful platform to connect people, and to get social, it also has the cons, which include really isolating people. So, it’s really about finding the balance and knowing how to use these platforms in a mature and responsible way, as a business and user. Why did you make the switch to social media? I think I tapped into something really deep in myself, what I really love, what I’m really good at, and what I would like to do. I saw an opportunity and said, I love social media, I’m always hanging out on social media, I keep in touch with my family and friends, I’m observing the trends and I said, there’s a need for this. There’s a need for people to understand how it really works and amazing opportunities for businesses, so I created my own business, and that’s the story of B!Social. Who are you working with today? Who are your customers? I started focusing on the local environment first because that’s where I wanted to connect with the people and that’s where I saw there’s a need for this kind of service, so I started locally and over time as the business grew, I’ve been expanding past the local region going more into the national and international scene. Social media is typically a thing that you can do all around the world because it’s digital, you can Skype, you can Zoom, you can Facetime, you can messenger call whatever you want, you can connect on different platforms, but I really enjoy working with local communities and real people, that’s what I love: working with people, in person, in real life. How did you hear about SMMW? I think I found out about SMMW on Facebook. I’m an avid believer of lifelong learning; I think there’s always something new to learn. I wanted to be in the place in the world where you can learn about this industry. I wanted to come and soak up the knowledge, be surrounded by experts who are living and breathing social media. They know what this space is...
I'm headed to Social Media Marketing World (#SMMW19) this week to speak on LinkedIn, and before I go I thought I'd share 3 of my favorite networking tips for getting the most out of live events and conferences like this one. Also, if you're heading to SMMW make sure you stop me at some point to say hello!
DO NOT SHOW UP AS A HOT MESS! Welcome to the beginning of conference season! You may be attending a conference to learn something new, obtain professional credits, make connections, or just get out of the office. Whatever the reason there are a bevy of opportunities waiting for you when you attend. To make the most of your time at the conference, this week I have outlined my conference plan. In March I will be attending Social Media Marketing World and I have been having a blast getting myself ready. I was honored when selected for the volunteer staff at Social Media Marketing World. It is the gold standard of social media conference and, from what I have seen, conferences in general. The staff really has thought of every possible way to ensure a participants success at whatever level they are attending. I have been encouraged to engage through multiple Facebook groups and an app. I have connected with amazing individuals and...drum roll...I have already been asked to guest blog post which is a major goal of mine for the conference. Before I share my plan, keep in mind that this is extensive. I dedicate time every single day to getting ready - connecting, reading, asking questions, answering questions and preparing my content. Your plan and conference participation depend largely on what you want to get out of it but you do not need to do everything on my list (although I would definitely recommend you pay close attention when I talk about packing business cards - those are important). So, our three Big Topics today: Topic 1: Before the Conference Topic 2: During the Conference Topic 3: After the Conference Topic 1: Before the conference Set Goals - I first learned about setting goals for a conference in one of the Facebook Groups for SMMW. I thought it sounded crazy at first, but it makes sense! When you have a goal you can then focus your energy to ensure you use your time wisely. You might want to find staff or Connect with others for a whole bunch of reasons - clients, outsourcing… Get guest speaking gigs - SEO, visibility, know, like and trust Get clients Learn something Meet conference staff and find out how you can help out the organization. Now you have direction for your efforts! Spruce up your online presence. Make sure to develop your Know, Like and Trust Factors When you want to connect with others they are going to check you out. LinkedIn - you want to make sure that your LinkedIn profile is filled out and well written. Twitter - fill out your bio and put in great pictures. Post content to LinkedIn and Twitter each day. Get your website in shape clearly explaining what you do. Put a few videos on Youtube explaining what you do. Commit to being authentic. You digital footprint should clearly articulate how you help solve problems. PreGame the Conference What’s the hashtag? Every conference has a hashtag. Social Media Marketing World is using #SMMW19 this year. For most conferences, staff monitor the hashtag and will probably engage with your tweets. In fact, find out who will be monitoring the hashtag during the conference and let them know you will be onsite to help out. Get on the radar screen! Not sure what to do with the hashtag? Look up the hashtag from last year's conference. See which tweets had engagement and who sent them. Start to develop a plan from these examples. Connect with speakers, conference staff and other attendees on LinkedIn and Twitter Look for opportunities to meet your target contacts. Ask them where they are going to be - networking tables? Schedule lunch. Is there a Facebook group? This is one of the things that Social Media Marketing World does best. There are multiple Facebook groups for attendees and volunteers.Contribute to each group by asking and answering questions. I've participated in discussions on topics from packing tips to details ...

In this episode, we focus on working with influencer communities to build your brand by using collaborations, workshops, Facebook Live and even your own platforms. Back in Episode 19, we went into depth about How to Build Your Community Using Joint Venture Partnerships. We recommend that you listen to that episode as a companion to this one Building Community Collaborations Lee Odden from TopRank Marketing often works with trade shows and associations to create ebooks for download before a conference. He collaborates with tradeshow attendees who download the ebooks and share it with their companies and friends. He also creates lists every year, starting with the list 25 Women That Rock Social Media. Every year, he asks those featured for their recommendations for the next list. He has done this very successfully for a number of years. The #SocialROI Chat Madalyn hosts each week is presented by ManageFlitter. They've created an ebook based on the Twitter Chat. They collaborated with 25 social media and digital marketing experts to cover 25 topics. Using Webinars to Activate an Influencer's Community Work with an influencer to create a content-rich webinar for a win-win. This works well for affiliate partnerships. For Madalyn's Video Like A Rockstar mastermind program she is doing webinars to promote it. A great way to do this is to connect with influencers and invite them to be a guest on your webinar. You can also have them as an affiliate too. Using Facebook Live to Build Community Kami uses this every month for Social Media Breakfast and it builds a community beyond the live event. Facebook Live allows more people to attend online than at the live event. Madalyn hosts Facebook Live sessions after her TwitterSmarter Chat and Social ROI every week. It's a great way of opening it up to a wider audience and bringing communities together. Social Media Examiner does a weekly talk show through lilive streamThrough the talk show and podcasts, they highlight thought leaders and guests who usually become speakers for their annual conference, SMMW. They provide speakers with a link for the conference to track who they bring along. Inviting Influencers to Appear On Your Platform Invite people that have communities that match your potential customers to appear on your podcast or YouTube channel and they might share it with their audience as well. Let's talk about the Teachers Pay Teachers conference & Social Media Marketing World! Are conferences worth it? Two weeks after attending Social Media Marketing World, Angie and I are discussing our experience. In this episode, we also talk about how to get the most value out of conferences, and why you should attend the Teachers Pay Teachers conference. Disclaimer: Some of the links in this post are affiliate links. You don't have to purchase them through our links, but if you do, it's much appreciated! Social Media Marketing World It was my second time, and Angie's first, attending SMMW 2018. Our conclusion was that it's a good conference to attend if you are already at the point in your business where you are running ads and utilizing a website and/or mailing list. The conference gave us motivation to refine what we were already doing in our businesses. Angie flew across country for this conference. With conference ticket, flight, and hotel, it was pricey. She concluded that it was a lot of money to spend for just one conference. I drove to the conference, and thought it was worth the money just to attend in order to network with other TpT sellers and get motivated to refine the systems she already has in place. Her favorite session was put on by Leslie Samuel, who has a great podcast on Blogging. The price averages around $900 for the conference tickets, but you can save money by buying it early. Another good option if you don't want to pay for travel expenses is the virtual ticket. With the virtual ticket, you get every session recorded to watch whenever you want. Go here to get the details. Teachers Pay Teachers Conference The main takeaway from this conversation was that you should do whatever it takes to attend this annual conference. It's very motivating, and you will learn things specific to selling on Teachers Pay Teachers. Even if the sessions aren't what you're looking for, collaboration with other sellers during this conference is highly valuable. The 2018 conference is in Nashville, TN at the Opryland. Angie suggests finding a cheaper hotel to stay at if you're attending on a budget. We both agreed that it's a nice convenience to stay where the conference is taking place, but the venue is on the pricier side. Click here for more TpT conference information. Make sure to join our Teacher Seller Facebook group!
Today I have another bonus episode for you, where I share a Q&A session I gave to attendees at the recent Social Media Marketing World held in San Diego. As you’ll hear, we cover a lot of ground here and the questions came from experienced Facebook ad managers as well as people just starting to use Facebook ads. One person I spoke with even shares how he made $500,000 in sales of an ad spend of $10,000. Like I talk about a lot here on the podcast, even though the new Facebook algorithm is the “elephant in the room” that has advertisers worried, there’s really no need to panic if they are focusing on adding value and promoting engagement based on solid content. On the Show Today You’ll Learn: How to tell when your Facebook ad campaign is fatigued, and how you can troubleshoot if it is Ways to attract listeners to a new podcast, even if you don’t already have an audience What to consider when looking at a lifetime ad budget versus a daily one How my two-step approach for minimizing audience overlap can help your next ad campaign My plans for this podcast, and why I encourage podcasters to consider posting episodes to YouTube Why my opinion on boosted posts has changed recently, but you still need to have a strategy if you’re considering doing this Why optimizing for landing page views should be something you are testing

Got a Comment? Call it in 888-563-3228 Social Media Marketing World Reflections Looking back on social media marketing world, I wanted to share my thoughts as this was the first time I was there and there are some things we can learn from this mammoth event. The first impression was WOA. I walked in and got my badge and as they started to hand me a swag bag (you know the thing you throw on your bed, leaf through once and then ditch) and they asked what gift I would like. One was a cool cable organizer, and the other was a battery backup pack to charge my phone or tablet. This wasn't a cheap bottom of the food chain device. For me, this was awesome as I was going to buy one at Best Buy before leaving and ran out of time. To me, this shows they know their audience. Either gift was valuable. For example, the opening night you have a networking event on an aircraft carrier. This is not something I had ever done. It made the event unique. Now, you might say, but in the end, you still have a bunch of people talking, drinking, and networking. I see that point of view, but every corner had a sense of adventure. I toured the top of the ship with Ray Ortega and Lou Mongello. If this had been in a restaurant back room, I was still hanging out with Ray and Lou. If I was doing this at another conference, it would be an event. I great event, but throw in that we are talking to a veteran about planes and now this is not only an event - it's an experience. It is a stronger memory than hanging out in the hotel bar. The second networking event was at a club that had a live band playing Karaoke. It was very loud, but I was walking in with somewhat of a "What am I walking into? experience." I was with Ray so we ventured further into the club and found ourselves on what looked like an outdoor patio except we were inside. This again brought on kind of a "What is this place?" feeling. We then walked through a hallway of white Chrismas lights into a room with booths lit up with neon green. We picked up some awesome cake in a cup and enjoyed our sugar rush. We walked over to one station where they were making some sort of dessert that was part ice cream cone meets cinnamon roll, meets strawberries and chocolate, meets, WHAT THE HECK IS THAT THING. You could even walk into the giant vault. Did we need an exotic building? No, but did it add to the experience? Sure, as now Ray and I felt like we were in a live dungeons and dragons game waiting to see what the next room would bring. Their networking room was categorized by subject. There were three tables for podcasters, more tables for YouTubers, etc. It made it very easy to meet your tribe, and then introduce yourself to a new one. The one that was really above an beyond, I was in the speaker's room (a lovely quiet place to go with refreshments and snacks). When the crew I was sitting with mentioned walking over to the place where you could pick up your lunch, a staff member took our order and brought it over to us. This wasn't necessary, but as this was day two anyone had put a few miles in their shoes and this was a super nice touch. Don't Write Off Icing - It's Important. According to Betty Crocker's Website, 2 tablespoons of chocolate icing is 130 calories and 95 grams ug sugar. According to the Fat Secret website, a cupcake without icing has 105 calories. With this in mind, 55% of the calories come from the icing, but I'm pretty sure the part of the cupcake that gets people drolling is 100% the icing. This got me thinking about the phrase, "Icing on the cake" and I did some googling as to items that draw people's attention. Here is what I found. Physical need. When we’re hungry and we see food, we pay attention. We wake up in the night when we need to go to the bathroom. Self-made choice. We decided to buy a new BMW 325 and suddenly see them everywhere. This effect is also called priming. Your name. We notice the name dearest to us. Emotion. If something evokes an emotion in us, they have our attention. Ask anyone about the show this is us. Contrast. We pay more attention to things that are in contrast to other things. Novelty. The brain pays more attention to things in the environment that are new to a person’s experience. (see) Another website stated: 3) You can't understand it: Do you remember the last time you were searching for some information online? Do you remember when you stopped? Most probably you stopped when you got your answers. The things that we don't understand quickly grab our attention and force us to think about them even more. 4) Because you want to run away: Sometimes things catch our attention because we want to run away from the current moment. Nostalgia is a great example where something pleasant that happened from the past quickly grabs our attention and forces us to indulge in thoughts about the beautiful past 5) Because it's cute: You might wonder what does cuteness have to do with attention-grabbing but in fact, studies have shown that we are wired to get distracted by cute little things. Whether it's a small cat or a beautiful baby the algorithm in our brains gets us hooked quickly when we encounter cuteness (See also 7 psychological reasons cats are so popular on the internet) A Cupcake Without Icing is a Muffin Although cupcakes and muffins are strikingly similar in appearance, the taste and texture of the two are quite different. Cupcakes are a small, individual cake. They are lighter, cake-like and sweeter. Muffins are defined as a quick bread, usually denser. Another difference between cupcakes and muffins is that cupcakes are almost always topped with frosting and muffins are not. What Kind of Icing Can Podcasters Provide to Their Show? Keep them Informed One of the things at SMMW is I never wondered what was going on. They had an app for your phone and an army of volunteers. I knew when buses were leaving and coming back. I knew where to go, etc. I listen toa lott of podcasts and many of them are like a bus. My friend Erik K Johnson from podcast talent coach says it's like getting on a bus with no name on the front. You have no idea where it's going (so you probably wouldn't get on), and if it took off with you on it you might be a little nervous. At SMMW I felt taken care of. When Emily Prokop of the Story Behind to a Hiatus to have a baby, it was well planned out, and here audience was aware of what was happening. She has some shows in the can to carry us over, and we knew there would be a small break. Get Your Audience Involved I know you are probably saying, "I would love to get my audience involved but I haven't got a single bit of feedback." End your show with a question, and ask them to respond. MAKE SURE you have an EASY way to leave feedback. Did you know that in some apps if you put your voicemail number (say from www.podcastvoicemail.com ) your audience can often click it and it will dial your number? If you do get feedback, RESPOND. If possible play it on the show. For the person that hear's their name on a show, it is a mountain of icing. I was listening to Podcast Junkies with Harry Durran and they ended up saying my name three times before the show was over. Did you notice I counted? Do you know why? Icing. Did you notice what else happened? I just mentioned his show. How is the Subscription Experience? Contrary to popular belief, rating and reviews are great social proof, but don't do much for really building your show or boosting you up the rankings of Apple. The muffin, in this case, is "Find me in Apple Podcasts." The icing is having an EASY TO FIND subscribe page with step by step instructions on how to subscribe or do it live on Facebook and embed the video. Guide your audience by the hand. Give Them What They Need My gift from SMMW was something I needed. It was so cool, and it made a great first impression. How did this happen? This was their sixth year doing this conference. I have a few conversations with Michael Stelzner and he's no dummy. He doesn't rest on his reputation and tries to make each year better than the last. Keep in mind this means when you first start your podcast it may not be hitting a home run, but work with your audience and you can create a podcast they start telling their friends about. Do What Other People Don't Jordan Harbinger has a popular show. His interviews are great. Jordon does something that most people don't. Some call it, "the work." For example, if Jordan is interviewing an author, he may put the episode out of few weeks so he can read the author's book. What does this do? First, it is going to be OBVIOUS to the author that Jordan read the book. This will make Jordan stand out in a sea of podcasts hosts who want to do as little as possible in hopes that said author will share their show on twitter. This also leads to better questions and a better interview. Now put yourself in the author's shoes. Which podcast do you want to promote to your audience the one where the host read the book, or the other guy? Who has a better chance of building a relationship with that author? When the author has a new book out in a few years, which podcast is he going to want to appear on. Why? Icing. Go One More Level Deeper I sat in Jason Van Orden's session on how to grow your email list. Jason used a word that really hit home for me. The word resonates. You want your content to resonate with your audience. How do I know his talk resonated with me? Well, I'm telling you aren't I? Exactly. He said when it comes to your content you need to know the following Why does it matter to you Why does it matter to your audience? Why does it matter to the world? When you know WHY it matters to your audience it shows you really know your audience. Copy That Pops: Writing Tips and Psychology Hacks for Business
Fake is the new Real? Check out this week’s quick tip to find out how to embrace faking your skills as you build them up! Check out today’s transcript! The Psychology of “Fake It Til You Make It” as a Public Speaker and Author Some people hear the work ‘fake,’ myself included, and instantly feel a gut reaction that that is bad to do. The last thing I want to be seen as is a fake, a fraud, a scammer. However, paradoxically, we become things by action. We cannot become unless we do. For example...you become an author by writing. You become a speaker by speaking. So, I truly believe that if ‘faking confidence until you build confidence’ works to get you to take action, embrace it and GO! As a personal example, I decided to speak about 10 days ago at the Ultimate Stage Experience put on by Tamara Thompson and Danielle Gomez of Serious Take Productions. I haven’t spoken on a stage in a while so I was feeling nervous and even admittedly had a little crying breakdown with my husband the Sunday before feeling like, “I am going to suck -- I’m not ready -- I’m going to embarrass myself!” No matter how great my photos are on Instagram, sometimes I hit brick walls too and question my abilities. Luckily, I have a great husband and he said, “Laura, I know it’s going to be great.” By the way he said it, I knew it wasn’t just half-hearted platitudes. So I asked, “How do you knooow that though?” And he replied gently, “Because you put your whole heart and brain into EVERYTHING you do, so how could it not be good. You’ll make sure of it.” That external reinforcement was enough to get me back on track and feeling ready to take one step forward the next day, the next, and the next...until Friday when I delivered my talk and actually had the entire room cracking up first, then inspired next. I told them my “Print Your Own Shirt” story that I shared with you podcast listeners back in podcast episode 108. Then, I told them about how I channeled my inner ‘Senior Queen’ and printed my own shirt which read “best selling published author” when I took massive action and wrote and self-published my first book at the end of 2016...that one action that has lead to so many more opportunities, clarity, and confidence that I never expected. Now, I’m telling you about this recent experience from 10 days ago because even though I was feeling nerves and stage fright, I decided to ‘fake it til i make it.’ The more speaking I do, the more comfortable I will be on stage, and the better speaker I will become. But if I just sit in my office googling tips on speaking and never actually do it until I feel “100% ready,” I legitimately will never get to my goal. Speaking of speaking, I am speaking again this coming weekend at the Massive Success Breakthrough event here in San Diego. Shoot me an email if you are in the area and want to come, I have a few free tickets I can get you. Laura@CopyThatPops.com And keep your eye on my Instagram and Facebook accounts...I’ll try to share behind the scenes where you can watch me hopefully more making it than faking it! Haha Now, for you… If you are like me and wanting to do more public speaking, well, go do more public speaking. It’s the only way. Reach out to a local high school, college, Rotary Club, or Toastmasters and get practice with audiences who do not feel as intimidating to you than where you want to end up (say...at SMMW, or Thrive, or T&C...etc). If you are still dreaming of writing a book and becoming an author, well, open up a Google doc or grab a pen and paper and start writing. Start with just brainstorming, idea dumping, journaling if you are still not sure what your book will be about. Action begets action. Do to be. Instead of “Think and Grow Rich,” it could be “Write and Grow Into an Author.” :) Oh, and one last thought on my brain...if you are in the San Diego area...I’m been journaling about putting on a 10 week hands on workshop where only 10 people plus me will meet in person and digitally to make everyone in the group Amazon best selling authors by the end of it. You’ll get your message out, instant credibility, and lots of media attention for your business...all of which will lead to more traffic, sales, and confidence for more. Please email me if you are in the SD area and interested in more details. Laura@CopyThatPops.com is the email again :) But no matter what you are working on to move your business forward, remember that it’s okay to sometimes “fake it until you make it!” Read More:Shownotes for 111: The Psychology of “Fake It Til You Make It” as a Public Speaker and Author - Quick Tip
The Journey to Social Media Innovation and Influence with Mike Stelzner This episode is an intriguing conversation about social media innovation - what it is and what it takes to truly do it in an increasingly crowded social media space - with none other than Mike Stelzner. If you don’t know Mike Stelzner, he’s a big name in the social media industry. Mike is the founder and CEO of Social Media Examiner which is the world’s largest social media marketing resource. The website publishes rich, how-to articles daily and has reached more than 60 million people globally. More than 450,000 people are subscribed to Social Media Examiner’s email list. One of the SME resources many people know and love is their Social Media Marketing Industry report. It’s published annually and is the longest-running study on how marketers use social media that exists. The Social Media Examiner team also puts on Social Media Marketing World, an annual conference which is now in its 6th year. Bernie has had the honor of speaking at the last 3 SMMW conferences and is speaking again at SMMW 2018. In this episode, you’ll get all the details about how you can attend - February 28 through March 2nd, 2018 - in San Diego, CA. And, speaking of social media innovation, Mike is going to describe his newest innovative social media venture - an episodic, real-life video documentary called “The Journey.” The ongoing power of social video can’t be ignored. Here is Mike Stelzner’s take on how to make the most of it Being a selling or marketing professional, you’ve got to be aware that video has taken on a life of its own in 2017. Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook - now even LinkedIn is getting in on the act of providing on-demand video tools for users. What does that mean for you as a marketer? You’ve got to learn how to effectively use these incredible new tools that are available. In this conversation, Mike Stelzner describes how “edutainment” in the form of video can be one of the most innovative and effective ways to use social media. He’s doing it himself by producing a “reality” video series he’s titled “The Journey” and is seeing amazing watch numbers increase right before his eyes. Find out exactly what Mike’s doing, how he’s doing it, and why he’s doing it - and how his example can serve as a template for becoming more innovative in your social media marketing efforts, on this episode of Social Business Engine. Social Media Innovation differentiates you in an increasingly crowded market. Here is how Mike Stelzner is staying on the cutting edge Mike’s new video show, “The Journey” is a chronicle of his entrepreneurial path. It walks through the real-life, daily issues he faces as a business owner and leader of the amazing team at Social Media Examiner. From hiring and firing contractors, working through strategy and vision, to planning amazing events like Social Media Marketing World, the show documents what it’s really like to lead a successful business. In his conversation with Bernie on this episode, Mike highlights why he thought the show would be a good way to market SME as a company via social media and explains why marketers need to begin adopting the new video tools available while there’s still time to be on the cutting edge. Mike’s a great example of a person who takes risks for the sake of leading the industry forward. After hearing this conversation (and seeing his new show) you’ll agree, so be sure you listen - and check out “The Journey.”
40th Episode’s Show Notes Hi entrepreneurs reachers. We are celebrating our 40th episode! I want to thank you, our listeners, for finding us, for coming back and listening over and over again, for your feedback, and most of all, I would like to thank you for your trust. My biggest wish, and the reason I started this podcast, is to provide each and every one of you with the most relevant and important content and tools that will help you entrepreneurs, startup founders, and small business owners to gain the fastest, biggest, and most sustainable success through an ongoing, growing stream of leads and paying customers while building your brand. Having worked in executive international brands marketing roles for the first 20 years of my career and having worked with hundreds entrepreneurs and startups on their global strategy, marketing, and sales for the following ten years, I can tell you that during these crazy times of endless changes, there is one thing that hasn’t changed; the way people think, desire, and decide. Marketing is all about looking at things from the point of view of your potential customers, because the money you are looking for is in their pockets. Once you learn to look at your product or service from your customers’ eyes, brain, and heart – the customers and the market leadership will be yours. In this episode, we chose to walk you through the second round of the best advice for winning your customers, from these seven leaders and most successful entrepreneurs: Mike Stelzner, Jeff Bullas, Erik Huberman, Mike Allton, Ian Anderson Gray, Douglas Burdett, and Jeremiah Gardner. I never know in advance what will be the best advice from my guests. When we decided to launch a podcast that will be devoted to customer focus for entrepreneurs, I wasn’t sure what would come out of these interviews. There is a huge shift in marketing today, but the amazing thing is that these seven people gave exactly the same advice we got in the first “best advice ever” episode – I invite you to listen to this episode to hear the top advice in 2018. I first learned about Michael Stelzner in 2009, while looking for some professional information about social media, and was amazed to see all the great most professional content Michael’s blog Social Media Examiner was sharing. No one shared much knowledge for free back then. But it wasn’t only the fact it was free, Mike Stelzner and his college writers opened a wide gate to this wonderland of social media. I fell in love with this blog and a few years later, I flew 20 hours from Tel Aviv to San Diego to take part in the 3rd SMMW conference and haven’t missed that conference since. Lets listen to Mike’s best advice: Mike Stelzner Michael Stelzner is the founder of Social Media Examiner, author of the books, Launch and Writing White Papers, and the man behind Social Media Marketing World–the industry’s largest conference. He’s also the host of the Social Media Marketing podcast, founder of the Social Media Marketing Society, and host of the weekly Social Media Marketing Talk Show. Michael’s best advice about approaching the customers I think that when you get started, you really need to talk to a lot of people to really understand what their problems are. That could be through going to an event where a lot of people that meet your customers happen to be and talking with them to understand what the customers’ problems are. If you already have some people in an email list, you can send an email to them, asking them a lot of questions to understand what their challenges are. But somehow survey or ask what the challenges are, I think it’s the number one way that anybody can be successful. A lot of times we guess we think that everyone is like us, which is totally not true, and we say “if everyone is like me then they would be interested in that,” and then we just throw it out to the world and hope it sticks. The story of...
I recently had the opportunity to see Oprah. She was hosting her SuperSoul Sessions event and the event was scheduled a week before the Social Media Marketing World Conference (SMMW). I was already planning to attend SMMW in California, so I instantly decided to attend Oprah's event. At her event, I learned so much about life, business, and entrepreneurship - especially about communication and overcoming mindset challenges. In this episode, I share some of the lessons I learned from Oprah and the many keynote speakers at her SuperSoul Session event and how learning these lessons can help us improve our businesses - and our lives. “We are here to raise the consciousness of the universe.” - Sigrun In Today's Episode of The Sigrun Show: Being open and authentic about your struggles can be an inspiration to others The power of forgiveness Being true to your intentions Why believing that “you are the exception” is one of the most painful things you can tell yourself Saying true to yourself and being authentic Dealing with issues and emotions as they happen Believing that you are worthy Being a conscious parent - or aunt, uncle, or grandparent Understanding that you cannot be sure of anything going on around you Overcoming insecurities and self-worth challenges Key Takeaways: Ask yourself: How am I enough? Stacy Tuschl is a speaker, business coach, and the owner of The Academy of Performing Arts in Wisconsin. She is the author of the book “Is Your Business Worth Saving?” where she reveals proven strategies for pulling entrepreneurs out of a rut and launching them toward business success. In episode 166, Stacy shared 5 big takeaways from Social Media Marketing World. Today, she’s here to share 4 things she learned at the same conference that has nothing to do with social media marketing. Also, the podcast is undergoing a bit of restructuring. From now on, Stacy will do Facebook Live broadcasts that will then be turned into podcast episodes. This change will allow for better repurposing of the content. So if you are on the email list, you will get a notification of the Facebook Live every Wednesday around noon and you can catch the show live. In this episode, Stacy discusses: Success needs to be balanced. At minute 2:50 Stacy talks about how the truly successful people are balanced in every aspect of their lives. True success only comes when you have the entire life you want, not just the successful business. Masterminds are everything. At minute 4:05 Stacy talks about her amazing mastermind. There are couples in my mastermind and there are so many great relationships to be developed there. No new friends. At minute 5:20 Stacy talks about how one session at SMMW talked about the limited amount of time they have to cultivate relationships. So, it means that you don’t have any time for any new friends because you are so busy deep diving into the relationships in their masterminds. Some of the best conversations happened in the hallways. At minute 7:40 Stacy talks about how she had her best conversations in the hallways. She felt bad about skipping sessions but learned so much more by learning from individual conversations in the hallways. Speakers on stage were nervous to speak at a huge event. At minute 9:20, Stacy talks about how many speakers had been given the stage and all it takes is raising your hand and applying to speak to a group. It’s time to pitch to speak in any conference you feel you can contribute to. Don’t forget to check out episode 166 to learn the 5 big takeaways I had from Social Media Marketing World. Welcome to episode 155, I’m sorry I wasn’t able to deliver an episode last week, the conference was so ‘full on’ I had no opportunity to put together the full episode although I did manage to record a few short snippets. Now that I’m back, albeit somewhat jet lagged, I thought I would share with you my experiences last week in San Diego But first…… Interesting Stuff I Saw This Week. LinkedIn revamps timeline with Trending Storylines: curated, algorithmic news clusters This seems like a good move on the face of it, note that the trends are personalised so not everyone will see the same posts. It’s currently only available in the US (desktop & mobile) so I haven’t had a play with it yet and I will reserve judgment until then. LinkedIn could be moving firm's IP to Ireland after Microsoft's €24bn takeover So, not happy with making more money from it’s members, LinkedIn want to pay less tax!! Social Media Marketing World (#SMMW17) So last week I made the trip to San Diego, a trip I had thought about making every year since this conference started. It was a big commitment both financially and in terms of time….so was it worth it? The conference was held at the massive convention centre in downtown San Diego. SMMW had c3000 delegates but we barely took up ⅓rd of the convention centre!! The conference began officially on Thursday but they ran a series of practical workshops on the Wednesday so my first experience was a practical session led by David H. Lawrence 17th and it couldn’t have been a better start! How to create videos that build authority at a moments notice. David H. Lawrence XVII I made more notes in this session than in any other. Very impressive speaker with a background as a Hollywood actor! I met up with listener Gary Stockton afterwards to get his feedback Key points; Good lighting is important (2 in front, 1 behind) Use the rule of ⅔rds to position yourself. Stand slightly side on and turn your head towards the camera. Look through the camera, not at the end of the lens and look away occasionally. Never use your RBF (resting Bitch face!) instead always use your BFF! To correctly position your hands hold your left hand finger with your right hand and position then at the bottom of the shot. A good lavalier mic is the Audio Technica ATR335015 (I already use this) A good camera to use is the Canon LEGRIA HF R706 If you are interviewing someone, position yourself on the right of the shot. Never tell an interviewee what you are going to ask them. Never explain a question, keep it short “tell me about…” and let the guest shine. How to create highly shareable social media images - Rebekah Radice I am a big believer in the importance of images in our posts and articles on LinkedIn so I had high hopes for this workshop……it wasn’t as insightful as I hoped but I still picked up a few tips; Understand what images do well in your market. When using text in an image, use 2-3 different fonts Infographics are still popular Carefully name your images with keywords Great quote “Learn rules carefully so you can break them properly”! Check out relaythat.com for producing LinkedIn images - some great templates and 10 free downloads a month. Day two keynote - Michael Stelzner Rather than try to second guess the algorithm, focus on understanding the company’s objectives. If you know what LinkedIn are trying to achieve then you can be sure the algorithm will be programmed in line with that. Facebook posts are not related to the time they are posted so scheduling at specific times does not have an impact anymore….this is definitely not true for LinkedIn though, not yet anyway. Great quote - “Become known as being helpful” Artificial Intelligence - Christopher Penn This was a very fascinating but complicated topic and I think I understood, at best about 20% of what Christopher covered! He was clearly a very competent, technical guy and as a result he communicated as you would expect of someone of such a ‘techie’! The main highlights were as follows; Machines are very capable of understanding sentiment (in comments for instance) Google have developed AI that is more capable at lip reading than humans which sounds pretty scary from a privacy point of view! Machines will be able to write better content than humans within 2 years (Really?!!) In the future there will be 4 jobs in the workplace; Those that tell a computer what to do (subject matter experts) Those that are told what to do by a computer. Sales Entertainment Chatbots are this years big deal in the social media world. Try out Mitsuko and Growthbot How to become an evangelist - Guy Kawasaki Guy was one of the real ‘Superstar’ presenters at the conference and he didn’t disappoint! He can be pretty controversial at times but also very entertaining. He was talking about being an evangelist and the things I learnt were as follows;

ProBlogger Podcast: Blog Tips to Help You Make Money Blogging
Strategies for Overcoming Imposter Syndrome Today I’m going to talk about an issue I see a lot of bloggers struggling with. In fact, I see a lot of blogger’s really crippled by this. I am talking about imposter syndrome. Note: this episode can be listened to in the player above or on iTunes or Stitcher This is something I have suffered with quite a bit over the years. I’m going to get a little personal today and tell you about those times when I was pretty much paralyzed by it. I’m going to get a bit honest today, and tell you that these weren’t the best times of my life. If you want to hear about it, then listen on. I think if you’ve suffered with this imposter syndrome. Hopefully, you’ll get something out of my story that will help you get through it yourself. Today I am going to present to you 7 different strategies to overcome imposter syndrome. We are going to touch on fear, self-doubt and feeling like others think you are a fraud. We are going to get really raw today. Do you ever fear that you’re about to be found out and that everyone is about to discover you’re not as smart as they think you are or that you don’t really know what you’re doing in some area of your life? Do you feel this way about your blogging? If so - you’re not alone at all, but you may be suffering from Imposter Syndrome. In Today’s Episode 7 Different Strategies for Overcoming Imposter Syndrome Understand that you’re actually suffering from this because you’re a high achiever At least be comforted out of the fact that you are not willing to settle for poor performance This may not fix it, but it’s good to know You need to work on self acceptance and realistic expectations There have been a number of times that I have been paralysed by imposter syndrome (World Domination Summit) I wrestled with it and became stuck I had unrealistic expectations about the results of this talk Perfectionism taken to the extreme can paralyse you Perfectionism also starts to creep into other extreme realities like being booed on stage or destroying my business I talked myself down to a more realistic reality and realized I didn’t need to be perfect I needed to be honest and true to myself Don’t be too hard on yourself, treat yourself kind Focus on your audience - I realized worrying was incredibly selfish, it was all about me and not my audience I decided that every time I was worried about how I would be perceived, I had to stop thinking about myself and focus on my audience This is great advice for anyone creating something for an audience This is also why I’m trying to interact with my readers as much as possible One of the best things you can do to show that you are not a fake or fraud is to deliver value Be Transparent - The most powerful thing you can do to smash through imposter syndrome is to blog with transparency People can only call you a fraud or fake if you are trying to be something that you are not Show people who you really are I was at SMMW a couple of months ago, and Cliff Ravenscraft talked about imposter syndrome. You are only an imposter if you are lying about who you are or what you have achieved. His suggestion was to always be honest when writing content by revealing: This is who I am This is what I have experienced to this point and what I’m learning These are my hopes, dreams and goals for the future This particularly relates to bloggers who are blogging about topics that they are not qualified to formally write about yet. I get asked about this a fair bit by readers who ask ‘“should I start a blog on a topic that I’m still a beginner in?" My answer is to always tell the story of when I started ProBlogger back in 2004 I struggled with imposter syndrome at the beginning of ProBlogger. Even though, I was on my way to being a full time blogger.
Following are the main topics for this episode: On baseball and remembering why we do what we do On seeing the fruits of our labor Reflecting on SMMW 2015 and public speaking Early returns on a new business model

By remembering… “For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.” Hebrews 8:12 Feature Segment: What I Expect From Social Media Marketing World Every conference I attend has the potential to yield multiples of whatever I invested to be there. This is especially true of Social Media Marketing World, which is coming up next week. Here's what I expect from any conference I attend, and what I expect specifically from Social Media Marketing World. 5 Things I Expect from Any Conference A major disruption in my schedule. The opportunity to reflect, recharge, and refocus. To learn something new, or learn something old from a new perspective. To be challenged in some way. To meet new people, and to reconnect with friends. 5 Things I Expect from Social Media Marketing World To discover the best social media marketing techniques from the world's top experts. Some are my friends, like Mari Smith, Michael Hyatt, Amy Porterfield, Michael Stelzner, Joel Comm, and Cliff Ravenscraft. Some are mentors that I have never met, but hope to at this conference, such as Jay Baer, Chris Brogan, John Jantsch, and many others. To be challenged in my thinking about social media marketing, and online business models. The best networking experience I've ever had. The opportunity to reflect, recharge, and refocus. To contribute to a great panel discussion with my fellow panelists, Erik Fisher, Cliff Ravenscraft and John Lee Dumas.
