For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. But now he has reconciled you by Christ's physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation— if you continue in your faith, established and firm, and do not move from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant.

He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete." Find more meditations at restforhersoul.com.

Do you ever feel frustrated that you don't understand why things happen in your life? We can't understand everything that happens, but we can find relief in knowing that God is running the universe - and we're not. We're meditating on these passages in today's episode: Job 38:1-18 (NIV) Then the Lord spoke to Job out of the storm. He said: “Who is this that obscures my plans with words without knowledge? Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer me. “Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand. Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! Who stretched a measuring line across it? On what were its footings set, or who laid its cornerstone— while the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy? “Who shut up the sea behind doors when it burst forth from the womb, when I made the clouds its garment and wrapped it in thick darkness, when I fixed limits for it and set its doors and bars in place, when I said, ‘This far you may come and no farther; here is where your proud waves halt’? “Have you ever given orders to the morning, or shown the dawn its place, that it might take the earth by the edges and shake the wicked out of it? The earth takes shape like clay under a seal; its features stand out like those of a garment. The wicked are denied their light, and their upraised arm is broken. “Have you journeyed to the springs of the sea or walked in the recesses of the deep? Have the gates of death been shown to you? Have you seen the gates of the deepest darkness? Have you comprehended the vast expanses of the earth? Tell me, if you know all this. Job 40:3-5 Then Job answered the Lord: “I am unworthy—how can I reply to you? I put my hand over my mouth. I spoke once, but I have no answer— twice, but I will say no more.” Job 42:1-6 Then Job replied to the Lord: “I know that you can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted. You asked, ‘Who is this that obscures my plans without knowledge?’ Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know. “You said, ‘Listen now, and I will speak; I will question you, and you shall answer me.’ My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you. Therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes.”

Not everything our little ones do is adorable. Listen to this guided meditation when you need a reminder of all the delightful parts of their little personalities. Your children are made in the image of God, just like you are, and when the days are full of teething and tantrums, sometimes we need to intentionally remember all the good! Our scripture passage is Ephesians 2:10 (NIV).For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.This is true for your child. Let that sink in! I read our verse in French (Second 21) to give us a moment to remember and pray for mothers around the world in completely different circumstances from you, but who love their children as fiercely as you love yours. En réalité, c’est lui qui nous a faits; nous avons été créés en Jésus-Christ pour des œuvres bonnes que Dieu a préparées d'avance afin que nous les pratiquions. Instagram: @restforhersoul
Have you lost your sense of awe and wonder at your little ones? This meditation will help you refocus on the good gift of your children, even when you're exhausted. It'll help change your perspective when you're tired from dealing with challenging behaviour, teething, and tantrums. Our passage today is Psalm 139:13-16 (NIV).For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. This is 15 in French (Second 21). While you listen, say a prayer for all the children around the world that God created with the same love and care he created yours. Mon corps n’était pas caché devant toilorsque j’ai été fait dans le secret, tissé dans les profondeurs de la terre. Instagram: @restforhersoul
What is love? I get the 90's song by Haddaway stuck in my head (I definitely had to look up the artist)! But what IS love? People like to come up with their own definitions of love, but God tells us what love truly is. Not only does he tell us, he showed us by sending Jesus to rescue us. We were in bondage to darkness, to sin, but God rescued us, so that we can spend eternity in his loving presence. That's GOOD news! For week 4 of Advent, we're meditating on 1 John 4:9-11 (NIV) which tells us what love is. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. This is the first verse of our passage in French. This is an invitation to take your focus off of yourself, and remember the body of Christ around the world, who is celebrating Christ’s birth, and awaiting his return along with you.Voici comment l'amour de Dieu s’est manifesté envers nous: Dieu a envoyé son Fils unique dans le monde afin que par lui nous ayons la vie. There's nothing like a newborn baby - precious and awe-inspiring and entirely dependent. The God who created the universe chose to come into the world as a little baby boy to give us what we need most: to be saved from our sin, from the evil in the world and in our own hearts. This week's meditation is on a passage that tells the true account of simple shepherds who had the great joy of meeting Jesus, the world's Saviour, as a newborn baby. Let your heart be filled with joy as you listen to prepare your heart for Christmas. Our reading for Week 3 of Advent is Luke 2:8-21 (NIV).And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told. On the eighth day, when it was time to circumcise the child, he was named Jesus, the name the angel had given him before he was conceived. This is the first verse of our passage in French (Second 21). As you listen, this is an invitation to take your focus off of yourself, and remember the body of Christ around the world, who hear these words in many different languages, and who worship the same Jesus you do. We’re all brothers and sisters in Christ. Il y avait dans la même région des bergers qui passaient la nuit dans les champs pour y garder leur troupeau. As moms, when our children face difficulties, pain, and hurt in this life, we can point them to the hope we have in the new beginning when there will be no more pain and suffering when Jesus returns. As followers of Jesus, one day we will experience the most beautiful beginning. All things will be made new, and Jesus, who is love, will rule and reign forever. Waiting is hard. But we have the most wonderful person to wait for: our beloved King Jesus who loves us so much that he died for us so he could spend forever with us. Meditate on this hope-filled message from Isaiah 11:1-10 (NIV).A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit. The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him— the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the LORD—and he will delight in the fear of the LORD.He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears; but with righteousness he will judge the needy, with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked. Righteousness will be his belt and faithfulness the sash around his waist. The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them. The cow will feed with the bear, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox. The infant will play near the cobra’s den, and the young child will put its hand into the viper’s nest. They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain, for the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea. In that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples; the nations will rally to him, and his resting place will be glorious. This is first verse of the passage in French, as we take a moment to pray for our sisters and brothers in Christ all around the world. Puis un rameau poussera de la souche d'Isaï, un rejeton de ses racines portera du fruit. Are you TIRED? Tired of fighting? Tired of the disappointments? Maybe this year has been one hard thing after another for you. When we're used to hearing it, saying Jesus is our hope can sound really trite when we're facing very real and very awful pain and disappointment. But I encourage you to open you heart and listen to this meditation as if it's the first time you're hearing these things. My prayer for you is that your heart will be filled with the very REAL hope we have for one day when Jesus will rule and make all things new. No more tears. No more suffering. No more disappointment. Bring your exhaustion, your anxiety, and your disappointments to Jesus and trade them in for a heart filled with real hope. We will meditate on these scripture passages: Isaiah 9:2 (NIV)The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned. Feel connected to the millions of other followers of Jesus around the world who have hope in God’s promise along with you. This is Isaiah 9:2 in French (Second 21).Le peuple qui marchait dans les ténèbres Voit une grande lumière; Sur ceux qui habitaient le pays de l'ombre de la mort Une lumière resplendit. Isaiah 9:6-7 (NIV)For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this. So get a pen and paper, and be prepared to feel a little lighter and a little more joyful than you did before listening. Gratitude is shown to make us feel more joyful, and we could all use a little more joy to end 2020 with grateful hearts. Whether you're celebrating Thanksgiving in the US this week, or it's a regular old Thursday where you live - why not use this occasion to get grateful? Here's our scripture passage for today: Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. - 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NIV) And here's today's scripture in French, as we take a moment to remember our brothers and sisters in Christ around the world. WHAT A YEAR. If you've experienced loss this year, this episode is for you. Maybe you're feeling burned out, exhausted, at the end of your rope, or hopeless. Maybe you've been separated from loved ones, or you've missed out on important life events like travel or a wedding. Bring your grief, anger, frustration, and sadness, to God. It is healthy and good to bring our emotions to God. He's our loving Father who wraps us in his loving arms. We live in a fallen world with so much pain and heartbreak. There are things that have been especially heavy this year. While we grieve, this meditation ends with hope, because in Christ we always have hope. We know how the story ends. It does not end in grief in loss, but in a celebration of God’s kingdom being established forever, and in all things being made new. No more tears, no more suffering. Jesus has already defeated evil and death. Today's passage is Psalm 42 (NIV):As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God.My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?My tears have been my food day and night, while people say to me all day long, “Where is your God?”These things I remember as I pour out my soul:how I used to go to the house of God under the protection of the Mighty Onewith shouts of joy and praise among the festive throng. Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me?Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.My soul is downcast within me; therefore I will remember youfrom the land of the Jordan, the heights of Hermon—from Mount Mizar.Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls;all your waves and breakers have swept over me.By day the Lord directs his love, at night his song is with me— a prayer to the God of my life.I say to God my Rock, “Why have you forgotten me?Why must I go about mourning, oppressed by the enemy?”My bones suffer mortal agony as my foes taunt me,saying to me all day long, “Where is your God?”Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me?Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. Do you believe that God is good? It's hard to believe that when we're suffering or disappointed. But the Bible tells us about God's character, and it tells us that he is good. He is faithful. His love for us continues forever. Let's CHOOSE to thank him and praise him because of his character. He is good. Let's choose to thank him even when we don't feel like it. His truth is higher than our felt experience, and the truth that God is good brings us so much hope when things feel dark. Meditating daily on God's goodness is an important part of our health and wellness. I bet you'll feel a little bit lighter and more grateful after listening to this meditation. Today we are meditating on the joyful, hopeful passage of Psalm 100 (NIV).Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth! Worship the Lord with gladness. Come before him, singing with joy.Acknowledge that the Lord is God! He made us, and we are his. We are his people, the sheep of his pasture.Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation. These are the first two verses in French for our mini French moment. (Psaume 100 Segond 21). How much time do you waste every day? Is it on your phone? Something else? What could you do instead? Rest more? Laugh more? Finish a project? Actually learn to connect with God and hear from him? Start a business? Get outside more? Dare to dream a little! Whatever it is, I bet there are things you'd love to do, but you think you don't have time for them. In this meditation on Psalm 119:37, you can spend some time asking God to help you dream about what life could look like if you stopped looking at worthless things, and walked in his life-giving ways instead. You don't have to be exhausted all the time. You can be a non-anxious, joy-filled, peaceful presence to those around you. God invites us all to have rest that's so deep, it's on a soul level. We don't need to live frantic, exhausting lives. When we look to Jesus, ask him, and study how he lived, we can begin to walk in the rest that God has for us. It takes intentional action on our part though. We have to CHOOSE to live lives where we make the time to spend time in God's presence and find true rest. In today's episode we reflect on what changes we need to make in our lives to enter into the rest God has for us. Our passages for this meditation are Jeremiah 6:16 and Matthew 11:28-30. Want to do something about the evil in the world? Love your enemies. Yep. That's what Jesus did, and he calls us to do the same. "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink." This is impossible to do by sheer willpower - but we don't do it in our own strength! God gives us the Holy Spirit to enable us. We NEED the Holy Spirit to change our hearts and minds and enable us to love our enemies, to wish them well, to pray for them, and to help them. Listen to today's episode as we meditate on what God says about our enemies, and how God is just and he will deal with evil in the end. That's not our job. How freeing. We get to spread love in the world by loving our enemies. Our passage today is Romans 12:19-21. This is part 3 of 3 in our series called Love in Action. When there's so much turmoil in the world, we long for peace. Jesus calls us to love our enemies. Did you catch that? LOVE our ENEMIES. That's impossible for us to do by willpower alone. The thought of trying makes me cringe. The amazing thing is that when we invite the Holy Spirit into our hearts, God transforms our hearts and minds so that we can actually begin to live the lives of radical love he calls us to. We can bring real love and change to our world! Listen in to meditate on God's truth for loving our world well. We all know our world NEEDS love. Today's passage is Romans 12:14-18, and it's Part 2 of this passage. Listen to Part 1 in episode 25. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight.
